Hi,
I am trying to install CM7.1 on my Defy+ following this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065798 > step 2
I have done everything, and when in ClockwordMod Recovery, when clicking wipe data, it says data wipe complete, followed by:
"E:Can't open /tmp/recovery.log"
And then when I try and install the zip from S card, it errors with:
Installation update...
E: Can't make /tmp/update_binary
Installation aboard.
I am trying to install the latest stable CM7.1 mod (update-cm-7.1.0-jordan-signed.zip ) and android version prior is 2.3.4 and kernel 2.6.32.9-g18e961
I installed 2ndinit as per step 10 of the above xda link.
Any help/advice would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Rob
you have to install a defy+ version of cm7 (not one for defy without the +)
here u get it: http://www.defy-cm.net/defy_plus-cm7-nightly/
EDIT: just read, that your version should work with both: defy and defy+... so i don't know, why your installation failed.
If you are using 2.3 kernel, you can install a cm7.2 nightly with defy+ letter, no need flash full SBF.
I now have 2.3.6 working, and rooted... now trying CM7 now, fingers crossed.
thanks
Just an update on this... 2.3.6 and rooted caused exactly the same problems in the /tmp/update_binary issue.
But then I have another issue using 2ndinit 'latest' version, as per this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21307184#post21307184
Thanks
1st of all im from 2.1 eclair.. then i go and flash .sbf for froyo 2.2.2 re-release version
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093352
after that i root it and install cwm then i follow the steps to install nightly
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432100
i dl this http://defy.wdscript.fr/defy-cm9/ [CM9-NIGHTLY-120416-Defy.zip]
m.cfa.aero/misc/CM7_Kernel-signed.zip
and i followed all the steps
How To Flash ICS(Defy Builds)
1:Head Over To Stable recovery
2:Wipe Data
3:Install ZIp from SD Card
4:Select ICS(Defy) .zip
5:Flash
6:Flash CM7 Kernel
7:Clear Cache and Dalvik Cache
then after it reboot, its not CM9 ROM but Froyo ROM 2.2.2..
whats wrong?
Are you sure that you dont do a Wipe Data/chache?
Make sure you are using SndInitDefy_2.3.apk. I used version 1.9 and had the exact same problem you had.
Hope this helps.

"flash zip (CM9-ICS-MR1-120305-jordan)***** DONT flash Kernel our you'll get Err:A5,70,00,00,23****"
anybody?
you will need to flash a new SBFusing RSD lite.
I used this SBF http://www.multiupload.nl/I52KOPDS8N
It should work unless you have flashed a higher version before hand. If you have installed a higher version then try these SBF and use one the same version you flashed before.
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umts_jordanplus/list.php
Yes if you are installing ICS and following the defy+ guide dont flash the CM9 kernel.
If you want to install ICS then use this ROM http://defy-cm.net/CM9-NIGHTLY-120417-Defy+.zip Its the new epsylon one as I heard the Quarx has a few more issues not sure if the new build has sorted it out,
You can use the latest version of gapps found here http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120422-signed.zip
Follow these instructions using the rom and gapps I linked but skip the flash CM9 kernel
A How to on flashing ICS(Defy Plus Builds)
1:Head over to Stable Recovery from boot menu
2:Wipe Data (Nandroid Backup Before Doing this [optional])
3:Install Zip from SD
4:Select ur ICS(DefyPlus) zip
5:FLash
6:Flash CM9 Kernel (SKiP THIS STEP!)
7:Flash Gapps zip(On first page of ICS DeV thread)
8:Clear Cache and Dalvik Cache
Hello...
i installed Cm9 followed the exact procedures give in http://www.youtube.com/watch?annota...&feature=iv&src_vid=5YJDcHjESKk&v=3v9OQY7yz7U
but now i am stuck at the CM9 boot screen.. i have an infinite boot...
i didnt take a nandroid backup...
i have the sbf files n rds lite, but it wouldnt let me go into it.. cm9 starts immediately after i plugin usb...
i tried re-flasing it.. no use.. please help...
Wipe data/factory reset.. and wipe cache partition..
after flashing the custom rom . . . . !
If wipe data/cache doesn't work.go to bootmenu and boot options.if adb is disabled...enable it.worked for me TODAY...after updating to a newer build it happened.
Sent from my MB526 using XDA
i cleared cache,dalvik,data.. n i also enabled adb.. no use.. can i load a nandroid i dowloaded from the net.. ? would it work?
what's your phone defy or defy+, green or red lens, which build did you instal?
i have Defy, green lens, i installed CM9 nightly [CM9-NIGHTLY-120416-Defy]
used CM7 kernel n gapps...
any help would be appreciated... thanks in advance...
Try the whole procedure once again:
Get latest build (Epsylon's for example): http://defy.wdscript.fr/defy-cm9/CM9-NIGHTLY-120428-Defy.zip
Kernel: http://m.cfa.aero/misc/CM7_Kernel-signed.zip
Gapps: http://cmw.22aaf3.com/gapps/gapps-ics-20120317-signed.zip
Place them on sdcard, go to stable recovery and do as following:
- wipe data/factory reset
- install zip from sdcard: ROM > KERNEL > GAPPS
- wipe cache partition, advanced > wipe dalvik cache then reboot
First boot can take a while. Good luck!
I switched on the defy holding powerup n entered SW update mode...
used rds lite n installed sbf.. my defy is back again..
i will try installing CM9 again now.. thanks All for ur timely support...

Hello,
I own a defy mb525 with CM7.2.0. I am not so happy with this version (bad 3g access; battery life very short)
So I decided to install the CM10.1.
On the develloper page I saw that the status has been updated on the 26.03. But if I look for my model (mb525), I can find only a version dated on the 120904.
Is there a newer version for the mb525 or is it only for the mb520 and mb526 ?
Regards

--> FAQ2
It should work for both. Same as latest builds of CM10.

2ndboot builds: they are one build for both mb525 &5 26 .... so you can download the 26.03 nightly build and update on your MB525 :good:

Yes, there is CM10 from Quarx. Your device can be either mb525 or mb526 with red lens or green lens. CM10.1 from the same person also can.

First of all, none of you guys ever read the stickies. It is packed with good info.
Our phone has a locked bootloader, it is almost impossible to brick.
Download latest CM10 and then install.
Ive come across a newbi problem im on the link of the latest cm10 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768702) and the file I try to flash wont install it gets aborted, I searched the forms for other cm10 and same issue file gets aborted.
If possible to be directed to the file I need to flash to cm10
not easy being newbi these days :crying:

out of curiousity, i restored my mb525 back to cm7 nightly 20111201 nandroid, which has cwm v5.0.3.2. i did not check the bootmenu version but it should be the same as yours. then, after formatting system/cache partitions, i flashed cm-10-20130918-nightly-mb526.zip, and it worked.
so i don't really know what's wrong with your phone, but i have a couple of suggestions for you to try. not that there's any logical explanations but try it anyway:
1. according to the error messages, you have the cm10 rom in the root folder of the sdcard. try creating a sub-folder called cm10 and copy the cm10 rom and the minimal gapps into it.
2. download the defy_fullwipe_ext4.zip and defy_fullwipe_ext3.zip ( for later use, when you want to revert back your rom) from here and put them in cm10 folder as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818520
3. reboot into recovery but don't do any format or wipe. instead flash the file defy_fullwipe_ext4.zip and this will format your partitions into the ext4 file system.
4. then flash the cm10 rom. if it installs sucessfully, then without any further wiping, nor flashing the minimal gapps, reboot the phone. (note that the os will reboot once more in the middle of booting up, seemingly having a bootloop problem. don't worry it's meant to do that, unless it rebooted more than once)
5. if it boots up sucessfully, do some basic set up first before rebooting back into recovery to flash the minimal gapps.
alternatively you could try flashing cm9.1 (ext3) to get a newer bootmenu and cwm versions before flashing cm10. no need to flash any gapps, just wipe system/cache partitions and flash the cm9.1 rom by itself. reboot into cm9.1, do basic set up. once it's ready reboot into recovery and do the above steps, starting from step 3, to flash cm10.
good luck.....
edit: did you get your cm10 rom from here:

I did try using that link but the files still would abort when flashing, also tried http://d-h.st/users/Quarx files it did the same thing
I followed your instruction but decided to goto cm 9 first I flashed the (ext3) file it installed and cm9.1 installed also installed twrp with no issues but when I was going through cm9 and its functions I couldent go on line a popup message (Unfortunately, brower has stopped) also I wasn't able to log on google play a pop up message (Unfortunately, com. google android.gb has stopped). so I got fed up and decided to goto cm10.1 so I first flashed with ext4.zip it installed and then tried to flash 10.1 file once again the file wouldn't install it gave me aborted file message again. I had no choice to reboot and I had to reinstall the factory file(brick). I am now back to where I started :silly: cm7 2.3.7 its been a hell of a weekend ........... ill give it another shot soon :fingers-crossed:
