well i goofed no more win7 for me.. - Continuum General

well i was an idiot when i was installing a new linux distro and i kind of deleted the parition windows 7 was on so i cant boot windows or even get into my oem recovery unless i pay 15$ for hp to ship a cd. so if yall need any help on the linux side feel free to ask me any questions im usually hanging out in the linuxdistrocommunity irc.
on a side note i couldnt have picked a better linux distro to get stuck on because pinguyos is amazing they went total try hard and thought of everything you would possibly need in order to stay of off windows lol

Haha I've done this and my brother did this when we finally decided to make the jump to ubuntu.... I had xp he had Windows 7.... I've been SOL trying to get it back on mine but ill tell you this.... If you can find an ISO for the Windows 7 disc you can make your own recovery discs and use the product key on your computer to make everything "legal" you then have to figure out the drivers for all the hardware but a tad bit more googling fixes that right up! It made for a really nice dualboot for my bro! I'll link up a you tube video he made in a bit there is still hope for your win7!
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk

to much trouble for what its worth id rather stay on pinguy lol

Recovery image??

ok a [email protected]@ I work with tripped over my pluged in shift and it fell to the ground (about 3 Feet) the shock to the Hard drive screwed it up and it (the HDD) is completely useless now all partitions and everything the HDD just clicks and doesnt spin so long story short I WILL be replacing the hard drive and upgrading in the process I will keep everyone posted on how it goes I got the unit apart today and it all seems pretty simple (and I am by no means a computer Pro. simply a hobbist) anyway what I would like if someone is willing can you please send me either via email or I`ll pay for a dvd to be shipped to me the recovery image that is hidden on the Hard drive so I can load the OS and all drivers I called the US HTC support line and they clain they dont have drivers or OS and cant send it to me which tells me they are simply unwilling to they told me I can send it to them and they can fix it for me at a cost which is crazy cause with the drivers I can do it myself for about $40 bucks anyway I searched and was unable to find the OS and the Drivers so if someone wouldnt mind copying it for me that would be awesome I am also going to hunt down a bigger ram chip and upgrade it too I`ll keep posted on how that goes and P.S. the HDD that is in the Shift is the same that is in the Ipod you can pick up a broken one on Ebay for $30-$40 US and simple use it rather than paying for a new one threw toshiba or Hitachi on a final note I put my 80GB 8mm 1.8" HD for my Ipod in my shift to see how it fix and I will say it was tight but did fix once all screws were in place
Thanks in advance

Wrong connector. If it was that simple, we'd all have 160gb Shifts by now.
As for the recovery image, check this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405220

Thanks for the Link!!
I`m not trying to argue with anyone as I cannot speak for the 160GB 6th Gen ipods BUT... I just not 5 mins ago took my 5th Gen 80GB Ipod HDD out of my Shift and it was working fine other than not having an opperating system on it the connectors at least for the 5th Gen 80GB Ipods ARE the Same I`ll post pics later if you would like but the connection is a ZIF connector and the Ipods (at least mine) DO have a ZIF HDD connection

In that case, I stand corrected.
My initial plans to upgrade the HD have been put on hold, as I've realised I really don't need more space, even dual booting with XP. I guess it depends what you use your Shift for, it's more of a toy than a business tool for me.
Let us know how you get on with the recovery image.

I'm Back!!

I was going to get on here and let everyone know that there "is" an x9500 selling on Amazon for $600, but by the time I got on here, it was purchased.
There were actually two, one sealed in the box, I bought that one!! So, I'm back!!!!! Not that this really means much to anyone, but I'm excited!! This time around I'm not messing around with the Shift until the warranty expires, except of course for liberating it.
SWEEETTT!!
Welcome back.
I just got my Shift back from warenty repair and it has had a replacement screen fitted, so I am feeling like I have a brand new Shift again and share your excitement!
WOE IS ME!
So, My Shift buying problems begin anew. The first time I tried buying one, it took 8 sellers before actually being shipped one. Now, on this second go around I have just been let down by the first. This is ridiculous.
Anyone know where I can get a new x9500?

Welcome to the club (again!) and here I thought nobody was trying to purchase the shift anymore. Way too outdated in my opinion but the phone function and having to be connected to the internet where ever you go makes my shift priceless.
I was planning on selling mine but honestly, I wouldn't part with it. =) I just need one more thing and that would be a mugen battery. Still planning on trying to install osx on it? =P
Well, I've got one . . .

Yeah, well . . . I am unable to find another Shift, so I gave up. Which means I'm still selling the accessories, one of which is a Mugen 6600 battery. It will be back up in the marketplace soon.
I was successful at getting OS X to boot externally, but never internally. I have all the info any one would need to take up the project. I was going to try to install it to an SD card and just have it external all the time, but since I'm not able to find a Shift . . . meh.
It's Like Riding a Roller Coaster
I found someone that is selling a Shift used - like new, so I'm giving it a try. I only wanted to buy new, but I think I can live with "like new" so long as it really is.
So, after I find out about the warranty, I'll figure out what sort of modifying/projects I want to subject it to this time around.
Me! Me! Me!

I would be interested in your notes. Do you have to have a Mac for this or can we buy any Intel OSX dvd? Is it easy to find "drivers" or whaterver they are called in Mac terminology? Which parts/buttons/devices are not working under your OSX setup?
Thanks.

You do have to have a working mac or working hackintosh (such as a Dell Mini) in order to create the USB Installer. You also have to have a retail OS X Install DVD. I was trying Snow Leopard (10.6). You should also register as a developer with Apple, for legal reasons.
I found most of the necessary kexts (drivers), to get stuff working. I got the basics working, screen, keyboard, mouse. I even got the USB Ethernet to work, but didn't have it long enough to try out anything else, i.e. bluetooth, wireless, etc. One of the biggest things that I had to overcome was screen resolution, but once I found a specific program, and ran it after installation, everything "fit" perfectly. Similarly, I was never able to get Chameleon to fit to the screen. When it came up it was just grey screen. So you have to knnow the button combinations to get it to do what you want. But I've seen other people using Chameleon on smaller screen resolutions, so I have to figure out the tweaks to Chameleon.
I'm getting my new Shift today, so depending on the status of the warranty I may or may not try this hack again. I'll let you know.

Need Help After Display Change My HD2 not more booting

i need some help i changed my display but now the phone is not more working all cables are on the correct places what did i wrong ? it shows the bootloader but after gogogo it do nothing more
You can always try the basics, i.e. reflash the ROM, try a different bootloader, try it in another sequence.
But I have to agree with this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38838029&postcount=15
This might be your case, as long as you are certain that everything is fine in the phone.
nothing works it only boots and then it stucks at

LOL!! I didn't mean the phone is useless now! You can always install the good-old Windows Mobile, or you can try your luck with windows phone, or maybe NativeSD? Or try cLK.
Lol, I think you were just looking for a reason to get a new phone (jk)

hahaha at the 2 time disassemble it i cuttet the volume buttons cable after that i was already so ****ed up that i kicked the whole ****ing phone in the trash xD i was really pissed off lol
was thinking about a new phone before already xD just thought i try my luck but **** that peace of **** xD
now i need to find a new phone but dunno witch 1 htc one, nexus 4, galaxy 4 or oppo find 5 hmmm
To myself, I ranked those devices and chose my next device accordingly:
HTC One: Premium build + HTC Sense
Nexus 4: The price point
Galaxy S4: Plastic but fantastic in terms of specifications + touch whiz
oppo find 5: no info (didn't really consider this one).
I really wanted the HTC One but it was a little bit beyond my budget.
I went for the N4 because it's actually you get more than what you pay for, and it was within my budget.
Even if I had enough cash, I wouldn't go for the GS4. I don't like how they build everything with cheap-looking plastic. It's just not my type.
Good luck choosing yours!

HTC D2 Android upgrade -or-Save me from brain damaged brother

Hey Guys,
I'm home for the holidays and my brain damaged brother decided it would be a good idea to see if my cell phone was water proof and accidentally dropped it in my parents pool. He said he will buy a replacement as soon as he earns enough money, but based on his current spending habits, which is primarily focused on beer and girls with room temperature I.Q's, I'm not going to hold my breath.
To make a long story short, he gave me an old phone of his to use until such time as he wins the lottery, or Jesus comes. It's an HTC D2 with the ungodly Windows 6.5 I believe. It looks like it will work for awhile, but I'd rather not use Windows. My brother came out of his drunken stupor long enough to direct me to this website, and told me to ask about upgrading the phone to Android. Due to his beer clouded vision and limited language skills, it seems he is unable to do this himself.
Is there an easy way to upgrade this phone to Android? I read through quite a few of the posts here, but found so many confusing options and variations I don't know what to do. I know most of you guys can build a nuclear reactor with a paper clip and chewing gum, but are there any instructions that even a Psych major can follow? I'm not stupid, but I'm not and engineer either. I'm going back to college soon, so I would like something stable that I don't constantly have to fiddle with.
I found something that shows how to install Android "Ice Cream Sandwich". The video is a bit dated, so I don't know if it's the easiest way. I want something simple to use. Is "Ice Cream Sandwich" recent enough for me to use my favorite apps? Is it stable? Is this even the best way to do it? It seems a bit difficult to follow and I don't know if I can even do it. The website here won't let me post the link, so I doctored it up a bit.

Sorry for the long post, and especially if I put anyone off with all "my brother" rants, but he just dropped my phone in the pool about 2 hours ago and I really needed it while I'm home. I tried finding help somewhere else at first, but received a message from a guy, who makes my brother look like a genius, saying he'd help me if I sent him a naked picture of myself. Uh, thanks, but no thanks.
I only have about a week left to stay here, so if I don't get the phone working by the time I leave I guess I can use the Windows phone. Any help or insights would be welcome.
Thanks!

Too. Many. Details ..... But I guess it is worth it against who might flame you for not "searching" and "trying stuff on your own"
For people who just want to know the question, it's highlighted in red.
To be honest, you WILL have to do some reading before installing Android on that device. Depending on whether you want to keep WinMo or not and on what matters the most to you.
But as to not confuse you, I'm going to assume you want Android on NAND using MAGLDR bootloader.
Follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044830 which should guide you through the whole process.
I can also assume that ICS should be fine for you, but if it doesn't suit you, feel free to try others. But ICS should be recent enough for most apps.
Follow that thread, and if you get stuck you may come back here and tell us where you got stuck and why and we will try to help.

Thanks for the reply, I did extensive searches and was overwhelmed by the hundreds of different options and opinions. I will just try and sort the easiest option I can to get his phone working like my old one.
Thank you again!

The way you describe your brother is epic. You're really cute.
Anyway, from second post is all you need... It actually helped me too. I'm looking for a guide like this after few hours of searching.
