I'm Back!! - Shift General

I was going to get on here and let everyone know that there "is" an x9500 selling on Amazon for $600, but by the time I got on here, it was purchased.
There were actually two, one sealed in the box, I bought that one!! So, I'm back!!!!! Not that this really means much to anyone, but I'm excited!! This time around I'm not messing around with the Shift until the warranty expires, except of course for liberating it.
SWEEETTT!!

Welcome back.
I just got my Shift back from warenty repair and it has had a replacement screen fitted, so I am feeling like I have a brand new Shift again and share your excitement!

WOE IS ME!
So, My Shift buying problems begin anew. The first time I tried buying one, it took 8 sellers before actually being shipped one. Now, on this second go around I have just been let down by the first. This is ridiculous.
Anyone know where I can get a new x9500?

Welcome to the club (again!) and here I thought nobody was trying to purchase the shift anymore. Way too outdated in my opinion but the phone function and having to be connected to the internet where ever you go makes my shift priceless.
I was planning on selling mine but honestly, I wouldn't part with it. =) I just need one more thing and that would be a mugen battery. Still planning on trying to install osx on it? =P

Well, I've got one . . .

Yeah, well . . . I am unable to find another Shift, so I gave up. Which means I'm still selling the accessories, one of which is a Mugen 6600 battery. It will be back up in the marketplace soon.
I was successful at getting OS X to boot externally, but never internally. I have all the info any one would need to take up the project. I was going to try to install it to an SD card and just have it external all the time, but since I'm not able to find a Shift . . . meh.

It's Like Riding a Roller Coaster
I found someone that is selling a Shift used - like new, so I'm giving it a try. I only wanted to buy new, but I think I can live with "like new" so long as it really is.
So, after I find out about the warranty, I'll figure out what sort of modifying/projects I want to subject it to this time around.

Me! Me! Me!

I would be interested in your notes. Do you have to have a Mac for this or can we buy any Intel OSX dvd? Is it easy to find "drivers" or whaterver they are called in Mac terminology? Which parts/buttons/devices are not working under your OSX setup?
Thanks.

You do have to have a working mac or working hackintosh (such as a Dell Mini) in order to create the USB Installer. You also have to have a retail OS X Install DVD. I was trying Snow Leopard (10.6). You should also register as a developer with Apple, for legal reasons.
I found most of the necessary kexts (drivers), to get stuff working. I got the basics working, screen, keyboard, mouse. I even got the USB Ethernet to work, but didn't have it long enough to try out anything else, i.e. bluetooth, wireless, etc. One of the biggest things that I had to overcome was screen resolution, but once I found a specific program, and ran it after installation, everything "fit" perfectly. Similarly, I was never able to get Chameleon to fit to the screen. When it came up it was just grey screen. So you have to knnow the button combinations to get it to do what you want. But I've seen other people using Chameleon on smaller screen resolutions, so I have to figure out the tweaks to Chameleon.
I'm getting my new Shift today, so depending on the status of the warranty I may or may not try this hack again. I'll let you know.

I dare you to find a free solution

This is the challenge I've got right now. I want a Uni solution if I can. I've searched and googled but nada! I don't want to spend any money if I can help it as it is only a play thing and times are hard.
A friend has given me an old server CPU but no keyboard, no mouse or video/screen. The server needs a complete new OS install and I am planning on installing Linux or Openfiler in it. But, as I said, I don't have a K/V/M/. I only have a laptop and my Universal.
Is there a way to use my Uni or my laptop as keyboard/video to prep the server? I've got cables but no usb bridge cables or twisted network cables.
Tell me if there is a solution staring me in the eyes?
At the moment I cannot see a solution but you very so smart guys may know something I don't.
Come on! I dare you!
Unfortunately because the BIOS needs to see some polling from a keyboard, this is impossible to do without spending money. Solution? Go to a garage sale and buy a **** CRT monitor and go to the local best buy and get a $10 keyboard and $10 mouse.

Thanks

Thanks! I've sort of figured that out. But I think it would be great if we could have something like a KVM substitute. The only thing I've found was somebody using a PDA as a second monitor, something called sidewindow. Link: http://www.pocketgear.com/en_US/html/display_product.jsp?id=prod5641205
But even that is not free! But it is at least one step in the right direction. Developments on that idea would be very interesting I think.

I just paid for my new HTC Touch HD I got on eBay

I just paid for my new HTC Touch HD I got on eBay last night and it should be shipped out from down under pretty soon. So, I guess that means HTC can now announce all of their cool next generation phones. At least that's how it usually works when I buy something high tech. Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting it and going through the process of installing all the software onto it.
congrats mate!!!
im sure ul enjoy it , i do mine
the only thing i feel im missing out on is the app store for the iphone
but that said i still wouldnt swap mine if the chance arose
also give spb mobile shell 3 a look for something a bit different
congratulations! don't worry since you can have fun with the HD for months before anything new comes out, is tested well, and stable!
there has already been a few new phones announced from htc like 1-2months ago, think there's alredy 1 maybe 2 of them already out or due out shortly.

there's a topic on here somewhere thats lists the ones that where announced, too late now for me to go digging for it.
hellow, i need your help mates
Where can i buy HD for about 450-500 usd, and where the visa virtuon card is accepted, and is guaranteed that they will ship the pda to me in europe?
I would say eBay as well and then someone who accepts PayPal. Maybe this could also help (sry for bad google translation) you.

Hi materijalmen,
Seeing your flag, I suggest to try:
http://www.pdashop.nl/product/59805/htc-touch-hd-nl.html
You can also do a direct bank transfer with these guys, and they gave me good service in the past. I know it's a bit more than you mentioned, but that's the going rate, unless you want to try marktplaats?

Yes. I've flashed Dutty's rom on it and I've downloaded some other programs I plan to add. I'm learning things as I go but so far I like everything except:
1 The screen goes black during a call. How do I get the screen back up? What if I have to "press one for English"? There's no keypad.
2 Whle trying to delete calls from teh call history I've accidently called people a few times.
3 While trying to install the ROM, which took about an hour, my wife was trying to call me to pick her up fom the metrorail station. She had to wait an hour since I don't have any other phone. Boy was she pissed.

Legend Repair

Riding home today, I had my loved Legend in my jacket pocket and the zipper failed, letting the phone come out and skip down the road at 70+mph. Luckily, my parents were following me on four wheels and noticed. By the time they got my attention and we made it back, we couldn't find the phone at all. Using my Mom's phone I jumped on mylookout and made it scream. After finding it, the results literally almost made me cry.
After only two weeks of owning the most perfect fitting phone I've ever had, I now have this:
(56k/mobile warning)
https:// dl. dropbox .com/u/6609249/DSC_0869.jpg
Any one have any ideas as to where I can get it repaired? I obviously get calling HTC but I wanted to see if there were any other recommended options available.
I don't want to be pessimistic but I wouldn't be surprised if the cost of a new screen+chassis+labor is more than the cost of a replacement.
I had a very similar problem with my Legend. HTC will repair it for 270 euros..

As of today, that'd be 341.22 USD. Purchase price was more around 500 through myworldphone so l have some figuring out to do. Guess it's time to start posting some stuff up on craigslist.. I *MUST* have this phone back, new or repaired.
I will say about the quality of the phone that it still operates just fine as the music unpaused when I hit the optical and I've been hearing notification/alarm sounds, if I could only find a way to control it through PC. I've tried screencast but can't get the phone to be recognized through USB (I'm assuming doubletwist is autoenabling the USB drive mode, not allowing the phone to switch to "sync" and I sure as hell can't do it)
Any ideas there?
I find it quite amusing that the phone is still in one piece. It is truly a sturdy build, 99% of all phones on the market would probably be separated into a zillion small, small pieces after taking that kind of hit.
Still i shame though. The picture made me shiver at first glance.
OMG...i feel freakin sorry for you dude will try and help you...google...here i go!
ok, i could find you the digitizer...

or here...
http://cgi.ebay.com/Touch-Screen-Gl...ccessories&hash=item3a5b46a6e6#ht_1977wt_1168
will try to find the chassis and the buttons.
I feel sorry too man, I love the phone because its one of the best build phones I cant get a scratch on the screen!

I ended up ordering another off of Amazon after taking mine apart to analyze the damage. Previous posters were correct, it would cost just as must to order a new so friend took care of me and got me another.
Interesting part is that (I'm assuming this) the first phone (also from Amazon) seemed to be from Europe, as the default language was UK English or whatever. It also came with a black A/C adapter plug.
The second phone came in with "CN Thai" as the default language, ultimately causing me to just give up changing it and root the phone. Anyway, that phone came with a *white* A/C adapter, no english defaults, Java and one other app starting with a P that was *not* on the first phone.
I wonder just how many out-of-the-box ROMs there are for "unbranded" phones...
Check your ROM version, and post it here.that is an asian version for sure...
Just root your phone and flash the wwe rooted rom.

NOOB and i need pointed in the right direction.

hello im thinking of getting an hd2 today but im not sure what all needs to be done before i can flash windows 7 i was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction. i have look on xda but im not 100% sure where to start. what all you have to do with the hd2 because i have changed roms a bunch on my nexus one. yet it seems like the hd2 is a lot different then how i do it on my nexus. so if there is a good guide that kinda shows what all you need and how to do it that would be awesome. thank you for your time.
The best tutorial for the flashing process imho can be found in the HD2 Android section - the steps are actually the same, except you will flash a WP7 NAND ROM instead of Android. Check it here.
To start, as you can read in above linked tutorial, you will have to install HSPL 2.08, which can be a little tricky in case your HD2 comes with SPL 3.03. For this case, you´ll find another tutorial, it´s not that hard.
Otherwise, no big issue, I guess.
I strongly recommend to flash a custom ROM, those include the "Chevron" jailbreak from scratch, biggest advantage is that there won´t be any re-locking issues. The original "Leo70 ROM" does not include the jailbreak.
However, if you want to use Live services, you will still need an activation code from MS. WP7 runs fine without those, but you´ll lack quite a few interesting options, I think.
Happy flashing!
This is a pretty good video guide........
thank you both for your quick responses. i will look at all the tuts you posted. i know i seen for one windows 7 thing that you needed hspl 3 so i wasnt sure on that.
this is a little of topic but is 225 for what there saying is a brand new only opened for photos, good for a hd2.
Sounds reasonable but I would be suspicious of the "only opened for photos" part..
If I was selling a brand new phone, Id much rather describe it as "Unopened" than "only opened for photos......
My hd2 is over a year old and very nearly in mint condition despite never being in a case so I'd imagine if someone had used one for 6 months in a case then it would be possible to pass it off as "brand new"........
Then again I'm a very suspicious guy......

lol yea thats what i was kinda thinking. i know from talking to him he doesnt seem to know much about hd2's in general. now if it was brand new it would come with the 8gb sd card or did tmobile stop including that? when i go to look at it today im going to make sure the touch screen works well and that there is nothing wrong with the device and make sure it has everything it is suppose to come with out of the box.
If your getting to see it and test it then thats good.
The things I'd check are the earpiece, the usb port and the little slot for your fingernail to open the back cover, if its had use these will give the game away.
That said, if it works ok then it shouldnt really matter how much use its had.
You could always try and get some money off if he's tryed to dupe you though

Anyone Still Using TPT1?

Just wondering what you guys are using it for/ what you're running on it. It's been on my shelf collecting some dust and I'm not sure whether to sell it off or use it for something. There is some functionality I like on it such as the HDMI port and the USB port and other things but I'm not really sure what to do with it. Just wanted to know what everyone else was doing.

I recently sold mine...When I first purchased it I loved it! I rooted and installed Koshu's rom which made it much faster. I used it for taking notes in college and at work (Comp Sci, Software Development). When the development of the rom stopped I tried to look into ways of building an ASOP rom for myself but no luck . Anyway I ended up selling it because it was taking up space and the Nexus 9 looked like a really nice upgrade. Currently waiting for it to be delivered.

I sold it on Amazon for about $170 ish USD with all the accessories (cables, dock, and a case). After the fees I got about $140 USD. I really just wanted to get rid of it.

The TPT still serves me well as a scratch pad, a sketchbook and a media consumption device. I also have a 64GB SD card that stores all of drafts, code, frequently read books and assessed data. It thus can be conveniently switched between my work laptop and the TPT w/o meddling with the bloody cables.
Do I want to upgrade? Of course. However I'm still waiting for a decent sub £250 Windows tablet with digitizer and long battery life for the upgrade to be worthwhile. None found so far so the TPT will still be my companion for a little while.
