Which version? Do you have the 2.6.35 kernel by having installed a stock 2.3 update beforehand?

I have the same problem, if your IMEI is 0, you can't connect to any WiFi networks with the 2.6.35 kernel, it works with the .32 kernel though. You need to restore your IMEI before you can connect to a WiFi network with the .35 kernel.
If you turn on Wi-fi, does it show your MAC address in phone info?

SOLVED..thx everyone...

Then your phone got nulled. One option is to take it to service, or you can try to downgrade it to .32 kernel. I had this situation with U8800 pro, when I upgrade it from stock 2.2 to original 2.3. Reinstalling stock 2.2 ROM solved it. Try this first!
Otherwise it is very important that you backup your ROM first, before doing any upgrade, it can save you a lot of trouble down the way. Also if you manage to restore your IMEI, backup it with this app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552000&highlight=imei

I am not an expert, but you must provide better info to get good reply.
1. you say "bought it with Android 2.5.6" but there is no 2.5.6 !
I guess this was a simple typo but we can not be sure what you really mean!
2.3.6 ? what SBF build ? you can find that in phone info!
2. CM7.1 was developed primarily for defy, not defy+, that's why it now says MB525 on your device.
3. "When I try to flash ROM for DEFY+..." be specific: what defy+ rom ???
4. What build of cm7.1 did you install ? and what Kernel does it use now ?
perhaps you get kernel mismatch error when changing rom..
Go to info on you phone and find out + post complete screencap or something like this:
System Version: 45.0.74.MB526.Retail.en.DE
Model number: MB526
Android version: 2.3.4
Baseband version: EPU93_U_00.60.00
KERNEL VERSION: 2.6.32.9-gbad50c3
[email protected] #1
Build number: 4.5.1-134_DFP-74
That will make it possible for someone on forum to give good advice!
Haha its very simple. Its all written in the build.prop
You can name your phone a gs2 or even a prada lol. Nothing to worry.
Use rom toolbox or something to change the build.prop

Hi there! First of all your phone is not bricked. You should first try to get in the recovery menu by pressing one of the volume buttons when the sensor is having a blue color. From there, if you can access the menu please do a full data wipe\factory reset, wipe dalvik and cache and then try to install the newest version of CM9 based on your phone model (defy or defy+) with the corresponding kernel and rom.
However, if you can't access the recovery menu, then restart your phone and hold the power button + volume down till a black screen with white text appears. Afterwards, connect your phone to your PC through USB cable (make sure you have enough battery left and doesn't die in the process) start RSD Lite load the sbf file and install it. Hope my answer helps, if so, hit thanks . Good luck !

Let me know if you need any other details.

hi there
well to backup your stock rom first of all you need to root your phone with superoneclick google it.Then install latest 2nd init form here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032212.after that reboot and when your phone blinks blue push vol down button to get into bootmenu.select custom recovery/backup all(to backup you rom)
3)either you download epsy/quarks ics build http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432100 or aopk http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1585425 and the ics gapps.then move those to sd card and enter bootmenu again select wipe data/cache and install zip from sd card:chose one of the 2 above and the gapps after finish reboot and VOILA ics
How is camera in ICSROM?
camera works fine but panorama fc
Thank you, have some questions again
Thank you very much for replying, i am half journey way to start updating to ICS
i have downloaded epsy CM9-NIGHTLY-120406-Defy.zip, is it right one? is there a stable version?
when to overlock the cpu after installing ICS or can be done before?
I'm not sure if there's a stable CM9 release for Defy.

After the update..
I'm using 06.04 by Epsylon3 with Froyo kernel and green lens: I find it stable enough, good for day to day usage. There's no CM9 stable version, not even a RC one.
You can overclock the CPU from the bootmenu, although CM9 comes with 1GHz standard. Maybe undervolt it a bit.

We need froyo kernel because we have SOC (green) camera ;-(
So we need to flash CM7 kernel too. If you use CM9 kernel, then your SOC camera will not work
Procedures in this thread in the first post
I also had to flash ICS Gapps zip (somehow ommited in the procedure)
You can use mentioned nightly - works fine
I would propose to use titanium backup from the market to backup all your apps with data - then you can simply restore them back with all data inside (but your apps - do not restore system apps)
hi there. so this is my problem. i have cm7 .35 kernel, and every time i want to search for networks, it searches for a while, but then it says "error while searching for networks". so i must have it set to automatic selection. everything works fine with stock 2.2, stock 2.3 and miui. but it doesn't work with cm7 (both .35 and .32), aurora (it used to-untill about v2.09), lewa os and mokeeos (first-class rom v3), and also of i put in another sim card, still doesn't work. any help anyone?
Your problem is typical problem of CM7.

i know that. and it's the same problem at cm9. ok lewa and mokee are based on cm7, but why aurora? i read somewhere that the problem is in too old baseband, and that it can be fixed (at least at some other phones) by flashing newer version of baseband. could that be true? and where can i get baseband?
Hi All,
I've done literally weeks of research on this, so hopefully I've not missed any easy posts, but I want to check my approach and ask a final question. This is my daily phone, and while I know the risks and issues with custom roms, I want to get it right. Hope someone can advise.
ROM I want to install is Quarx's JB 4.1.2 CM10.
Phone I have is UK Motorola Defy (Red Lens, original):
System version: Blur_Version_2.21.0.MB525.Retail.en.GB
Model Number: MB525
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: EPU93ST2_U_03.02.00
Kernel version: 2.6.29 [email protected] #1
My plan is:
1. Official upgrade to Froyo - it seems this is not yet done on mine, and custom ROMs require its Kernel, I read
2. Root phone - SuperOneClick
3. Titanium Backup - Needs Root
4. ClockWorkMod Recovery - Needs Root, and gives me Nandroid Backup capability in BootLoader
5. Nandroid Backup - this should provide me a route back to stock (* see question below)
6. Flash ROM - this will give me CM10 based on Jelly Bean 4.2.1
Question is, despite reading many threads, I'm still confused on CG versions and SMG file versions (CG##.smg). I do want to be able to flash back to stock after this, in case I want to sell the phone - if I flash up to Quarx's CM10 JB 4.1.2, what CG version is it and is it higher than I can possibly get back to stock from? Or can I find a Fixed SBF of a Stock ROM that will let me go back? How can I best prepare for this?
Anything else to be aware of or concerned about?
Thanks very much.
Steve.
The easiest approach is to directly flash cm10 first and check off it works(you can flash back your stock sbf if there's any problem) because CM10 WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CG VERSION
The potential problem you can face(which can not stop you from stock sbf flash) is an incompatibility of 2ndboot with your stock kernel.
If you run into that problem (which I think should not occur) you will have to flash a compatible sbf, with higher cg version and a compatible stock kernel.

Thanks - good to know CM10 has no CG version. I expected the developers to want to get rid of that kind of limitation as soon as they could!
Hmmm, so could someone confirm, that Quarx's CM10 will flash directly over the stock 2.1 Eclair ROM as listed above (with root/CWM), and doesn't need Froyo deployed as a base? That would really help if so - then I have no further considerations and I can just get on with it. I'll take it carefully and I'd rather not be faced with non-booting etc the first time round.
I believe wifi tethering doesn't work on it, though, or there's some problem with restarting regarding wifi tether. That's a shame, but maybe an app like Barnacle or OpenGarden can work instead...?
You could try it yourself by taking a Nandroid backup and if you face the non booting problem then flash stock sbf+ restore. Beware that sometimes first boot hangs or bootloops and in such cases you can fix the problem with a battery pull, or data wipe respectively
Open garden works without issues
Hit thanks!
Hello Guys...
After update to 4.2.2, My WiFi is only searching! But not found any wifi...!!!!
I also install custom rom, but I have still this problem!!!
any suggest?
Did wi-fi work on the stock rom? You might check the website of the developer for your custom rom or a forum that supports that rom. Which rom did you install?
