OK, I know this probably isn't the right place to ask this, but I was hoping some of you guys would know the answer to this.
Every time I try to search the forum on my Galaxy Tab by clicking on the "search this forum" button, and I click on the text input box, the keyboard pops up for a split second and then disappears again.
I have tried to use a different browser, but that still doesn't help.

Man, I thought this might work. I hadn't tried browser for tab yet, but just tried it, and it still doesn't let me search. Keyboard just disappear.
It's a common problem with the Android browser, even the ICS one. Just click on "advanced search" instead of typing in the text box and type your keywords there. You'll get the same results, it's just one click more.

Okay, this is kind of hard to explain, but I'm going to try my best.
On FireFox, you can highlight a word and then right-click it and it gives you an option to do a Google search on the highlighted word(s).
On the Android browser, you can highlight a word(s) as well, and there's a magnifying glass option, but that magnifying glass searches Wikipedia.
Is there anyway to make it so that it searches Google instead?
Hope that makes sense.
Thanks!

If you've already highlighted it, why don't you just copy it, hit the search button, and paste it?

agreed.. I've always been disappointed when it's pointed to wiki - when I've wanted a google search from that function..

Well, today's your lucky day .
I don't usually hang out in this section of the forum, but a different thread caught my eye, then backing out, I saw this one, and it had me curious. I don't use the stock browser, so I wasn't aware of the highlight functionality for then searching against, by default, wikipedia.
I actually thought this would be easier than it was, as I had to track it down to a separate app that the browser launches, named 'QuickLookup', and then, from there, figure out a way to hack out the Wikipedia search in favor of Google search.
The interesting thing is, there are provisions in the code for google, youtube, wiki, translate, etc, but only 3 show, so I removed Wikipedia as the first / default option, and replaced it with Google.
Flash the attached via recovery and let me know if it works for you.
Note, the lookup defaults to your last used, so, if you exit / leave / return back to your browser, be sure to select the 'google search' as your last method, to make sure your next/default search returns to google as well.
If confirmed working for someone other than myself, I'll probably pull this out into a separate thread in the apps section.
Okay, the silence is killing me. Did this work for either of you asking in the post?
I'll break the silence. No, it didn't work. It still displayed Wikipedia. Wonder why??? Your on to something...

What's your ROM? I should state, though is wasn't specified in the OP, that this is from a Sense based ROM.
Works for me on 3.70.
And, to confirm, I just nand restored a stock 3.70 rom, flashed the attached, and worked perfectly...
I'm using stock 3.70 also. Weird......
We are talking about highlighting text in our default browser and clicking the magnifying glass right?

Nevermind, it was my phone acting "phony." I have been having annoying issues lately and need to start from scratch, but anyways, yes you are right, it does work. Takes you straight to the Google Dictionary tab.
Sorry, I should know by now if you made the mod, its nice and works well.

Hmmm, make sure you click the left-most icon at the bottom before you leave the quicklookup, as it always takes you to the last used.
From scratch / out of the box, it "should" take you to Google Web Search (which is new/not present previously/replaced wikipedia option), as opposed to dictionary.
On my Galaxy tab, when I am on this forum and click on 'Search' a small window pops out but when I click in it to type, it disappears! Then I click on advance search, here I can type in the keywords but it always says no results found. It's really frustrating. Any help?
You should use the XDA-Developers applications (on the Market). Search is'nt as good as the actual forum, but it works well for the most.
Tried that but it's so slow that there's a thread here about it. Are you using Galaxy Tab? Does the search work for you in a browser?
Have u tried tapatalk app?
You need to buy it and so far market is not accepting Indian cards.I was hoping for a fix from the developers. This forum is much more fun in a browser. I have tried many browsers but no go.
Au sorry thought there was a free version availible, but to answer your first quiestion, yes it does the same in xscope browser..maybe thats way i bought tapatalk..
Also try google instead..

fwiw -- I have same problem with my tab using stock browser.
I use the advanced search function and that doesn't have the pop up problem....
Trying to search the forum is tricky for me. When I tap on "search this forum" and tap on the field, the keyboard pops up for a second and then disappears. It happens with both the stock and Dolphin HD browsers and with both the stock and Thumb keyboards. Anybody else?
I've had this problem since day one (with any/all browsers) on my g-tablet. I've posted, but gotten no replies. I thought it was an Android thing. I'd love to get a solution for this also...
Its an Android problem. Happens on phones too.
When accessing google in the standard browser I get the following strange behaviour:
Search for something.
Click a link.
Use 'back' key to return to search results and the page shows no results, just the Google logo and the search box.
If I refresh the page I get the search results back.
Is this the same for everyone?
Yep i had the same on both 3.0.1 and 3.1 however when on google.co.uk i have the cog icon top right for search settings and even though browser set to google instant off the sttings here still show as active so unticked google instant and saved preferences, now i do not have this problem
yep... i am seeing i too under 3.1
yep...this is a bug in the stock browser..
not a big deal but hopefully it will be fixed soon

Awesome! Fixed my issue with the browser too. However, I did like the google instant feature. I'll wait until it's fixed, since this is much better.
Was on the main google site and could not type anything into the search box. I would click in but no keyboard would pop out to type... Am I doing something wrong?

Got the same on Galaxy Tab 10.1 the moon eclipse animation works but no keyboard pops up when tapping at the search box. I had to click the google logo and search from there.

Ya I have the problem with the stock browser as well, specifically with the docked keyboard. I have found if I do a right click to pop up the menu and cancel it, then I can start typing in the search box.
I also have this issue with the Dolphin browser.
i'm having this problem too... kinda. certain websites, like xda, i can't use the back button. this is happening on my tf and on my gt10.1 so it's not a tf specific issue. it may be an app causing this b/c before i synced my gt10.1 after reformatting it it worked fine.
since dolphin is doing this too maybe dolpin is causing the problem? got some digging to do. i may go back to fresh and install apps one at a time... what a pain that'll be.
Hi all,
Just upgraded from a S3 and can’t seem to get the option to forward a text message.
I used to do this on my S3 by a long press on the text message I wanted to forward.
When I do this now...I only get 2 options....copy text and delete!
On the S3 I have many options.
What am I doing wrong?
How do I forward the message?
Many thanks in advance.
Screenshot attached....
You appear to have posted this in an number of forums. That's bad form, you should stick to one thread. The same amount of time put into a straightforward search would have seen your question answered already. The answer can be found in the S5 manual, myriad search results or on Youtube. Long press on the message balloon instead of the unopened message. Then select forward from the popup menu.
Google search: forward text message s5
Top search result.
Or even better, upgrade to a better third party SMS app.
If you still have problems, post a .PNG screen shot and provide details of your firmware version, app version, what you have tried, et cetera.
Enjoy
.

This is the first time I have posted this question.
I did do a Google search and the answers that were coming up were a long press on the balloon as you mention.....this doesn’t work on my phone.
I only have 2 options when I do that
1) Delete
Or
2) Copy text
(Screenshot of long press attached)
I have also attached screenshot of my phones details.
It’s very odd, how I’d only have such limited options when I long press on the speech bubble.
Any help appreciated.
You didn't tell us what SMS app version you have or anything about your SMS or APN configuration, so there is no way to discern what might be amiss on your phone.
At a guess, try installing the stock SMS app here
Rename the old SMS app and the corresponding odex file if your system is odexed. Clear your cache and move the new SMS app to /system/priv-app per the directions in the post (do not install via the package manager).

Hi I had this same problem but it appears you may have set your phone to EasyMode. In Easy mode your Samsung S5 collapses your phones functions for specified applications to the bare essentials.
The solution:
1. Find the EasyMode option and set your phone to "Standard Mode"
2. Remain in EasyMode and uncheck Messaging.
Worked for me. Hope it works for you too.
Or you can just Copy text and paste into a new message.
