[Q] Bilangual autocorrection - Windows 8 General

Hello everybody,
I thought I should give Windows 8 a try as well and I can say I do infact like it But one Thing that bugs me is the autocorrection. Is it possible, to set the dictionary to two languages? Everytime a write an english text, random words get capitalized when they are recognized as german. I do sometimes Switch to the english Keyboard layout, however there are most of the Special keys different located. Is it possible to use both, the english and german dictionary in the autocorrection feature?
Regards
Chris

I had a run-in with this very same problem a couple of weeks ago. In my case, I am Portuguese, but I do write quite a lot of English (as you can plainly see from this very post... lol).
I went about trying to find a way to do exactly as you want. From what I could find out, as of right now your keyboard layout is directly linked with your input language; also, you can't have more than one language per keyboard layout. There is a 1:1 ratio there.
Which, in short, means we're stuck with that odd behavior in Windows 8 (either we keep separate keyboards, memorize multiple keyboard layouts, get auto-corrected for the wrong language or disable spelling altogether - which, quite frankly, I don't even know if it's possible). And I'm not too bad, at least we don't need to capitalize every noun in Portuguese (that has to be a pain in the behind to work through with the spell-check...), we just get A LOT of red underlined words.
I have, however, already submitted a bug report/feature request for that issue. I had to go around and install the Feedback Report Tool for Internet Explorer 10 (if memory serves me right), and navigate a few options, but I could do it. If you can, try and submit it too, there are bound to be quite a lot of people who are in the same boat as ourselves...
Hope this helps.

Getting Word Completion to learn new words!

OK, this may just be a Pocket PC thing rather than a specific XDA II thing but I'm not sure.
Can anyone tell me if their XDA is learning frequently used words that are not in it's dictionary. For example, my name's Ravi and after a couple of weeks of typing emails, letters etc all ending '... Ravi', it's still not learnt the word. All it suggests is 'Ravaged' (!!)
This morning, I got a bit fed up of this so I created a note and typed in 'Ravi' about 100 times and guess what, it still doesn't learn it.
Is there a trick to getting the dictionary to learn new words or is it just my name it can't stand !!
Maybe someone else can try this and see if it works !
Ravaged
Ravi,
Did you ever sort this out?
I would love to enter a few words (including my name!) in to the database
Ashby
Check out Fitaly. 60 days trial. You will be able to build own shortcuts. And I think it's a much faster SIP then the others.

I'm not sure if the XDA learns new words by itself, but you can add words. Not sure if there's a simpler way, but this (rather complicated one) works:
- open any transcriber-aware application
- write the word you want to add, using keyboard or transcriber
- mark (highlight) the word
- switch to transcriber; if the second row of icons is not visible, tap on the hand icon
- tap on the icon with the red check mark to open the "corrector window" (not sure if this is the correct translation for "Korrekturfenster" ); the highlighted word will appear in the new window
- double-tap anywhere inside the word.
- in the menu that (hopefully) comes up, chose "add to dictionary" ("Dem Wörterbuch hinzufügen")
Voila, you're all set!
But please be careful - I didn't yet find a way to remove words from the dictionary...
Cheers
Daniel
many thanks,
ashby
Never sorted it out - everyone I spoke to said that the OS doesn't add new words. I'm just about to buy Calligrapher - I tried the demo and it's amazing - I'm not sure that this feature is available on this program either though. I guess I've just given up adding new words but I will try Daniel's method outlined above.
BTW I tried Fitaly and what the hell were they thinking ? Is it supposed to be an easier input method than what we have already or is it just designed to fry your brain ?!!
TenGo's pretty decent though !
thanks all

Getting Word Completion to learn dutch!
Does anyone know how to change the word completion dictionary on my Qtek 2020 / PPC 2003 to another dictionary / language?
It is said that in PPC 2002 you could swap the file \Windows\user.dct, but not on PPC 2003 (the file is apparently not there).
Try out WordLogic: http://www.wordlogic.net/software.html
Not cheap, but works very well!

Chinese on English HTC HD ?

I'm having a problem emails in Chinese on my HTC HD. I have 智能输入 installed with the fonts that lets me enter text in Chinese or surf websites.
But when I get emails in Chinese, the subject line comes up fine, but the message itself displays in ASCII, even if I view in UTF-8, and I don't have the option to view in other Chinese encodings.
Is there a component I can install to fix this?
Hi,
I also have an English HTC HD, when I bought it they installed for me:
雅黑字体_14mb , 马兰花全屏手写, and 梅花输入法
and I can see and write Chinese.
I'm also looking for an other pinyin input method, the one I have now is not very convenient for me because when I input in pinyin "hao" the soft propose me characters for "hao, gao, gan" mixed and it is more difficult for me to find the right one...(i'm a french guy and my Chinese is still not very good...)
my solution is with CE-Star installed, and replace the font with the one you liked say msyh, and change the FontLink registry (google it)
and install the SIP you're used to..
that would pretty much done everything
EDIT: you can even change the system language to chinese, meaning displaying almost everything in chinese like you're using a CHS/CHT rom
To any and all of the three of you. I am English but visit Chinaa lot and like to be able to show Chinese characters / SMS messages etc. to taxi drivers etc.
At present, I cannot even show Chinese chacters on my screen (they always come up as ASCII).
Can you explian what:
雅黑字体_14mb , 马兰花全屏手写, and 梅花输入法
is in English and I will try and track it down.
I don't want to replace my SIP or my default language at all - just have Chinese charcetrs display ont he screen.

u got the cab for 马兰花全屏手写 by any chance? i was brought up in the uk so i can't exactly type chinese but i can write a little
雅黑字体_14mb is a Chinese font
马兰花全屏手写 is to hand write, I found it at http://bbs.cnsmartphone.com/thread-441569-1-1.html
梅花输入法 is a pinyin input I found it at http://www.dayhand.com/temp/PlumSIP6VGABeta2.rar
Thank you for the information. I'm sorry to be a pain but since I really can't begin to search for the font:
雅黑字体_14mb
in English, is there any way you could let me know if it is freely available and poiint me in the directin of a download site? I know I'm asking you to do some search for me but I'm not being lazy - I really can't do this on my own.
Thank you in advance for any extra help you can give.
I'm in the same boat. I don't read or write Chinese, but want to be able to display it on a WWE HD. CE-Star corrupted my softkey backgrounds (see here .)
The search continues
Funnily enough I have that same problem with my softkeys and I hadn't even heard of CE Star.
Mine seems to correct itself after every second or third soft reset an d I think was initially caused by trialling AEButtons Plus. Unfortunately, having uninstalled AEB+ many days ago, I wouldn't know which orphan files to look for any more.
Do please update this post if you find an adequate solution to displaying the Chinese fonts. I will do likewise.
In the following website you can find the package I used to display Chinese in the past year or so, on Kaiser and HD, the package also includes an input method but I use touchpal instead for Chinese input.
!!!!!IMPORTANT NOTE!!!!! PLEASE READ BEFORE INSTALL
The msjh.cab is not officially supported on HD, I had to install multiple times to get it working - failed installation result in freeze that you can only get your phone back by HARD RESET! However once it works (restart after the phone without freeze) the problem never comes back, I have tried many many times and combination however cannot find a right combination to bypass the problem constantly..
Because of the problems above, please use it with caution. But I have to say this package in combination with touchpal (which are both free) is the best package for Chinese reading/writing I have tried so far, I have used CEStar and Monster Chinese, both have intermittent problems, compare to the package I am using, although not perfect, but it only gives you headache until you get it installed successfully.
http://www.studiokuma.com/wm/?section=support
(click on the link read "msjh.cab (3610KB)" to download, you will need to check the checkbox and click on the accept button on the popup page to start the download)
Note: you can also download the "droid.cab (1469KB)" on the same site, which will install the "Google Droid Sans Fallback" font, its very pretty and clear.
Fantastic - although scary! Since I am only interested in output rather than input, would it be safer for me to just install the Google Droid font? (I assume this is a Chinese font). And is WinMo clever enough to know that all incoming chinese text can be displayed in this font rather than ASCII or do I need to chnage some things to point it there?
Much appreciated lawrencel... I have ibnstalled only the droid font, and all looks well. It required a soft reset after install and no issues whatsoever.
When I try to download from that site, it gives me a 404 error file not found, can anybody upload it somewhere else. I'm only interested in the fonts only as well, thanks in advance.
edit: I went back to the website and tried to download again, noticed that I forgot to turn javascript block off, now it's download just fine. Works on first attempt, was kind of hesistant to install it after what I have read in this thread, but glad nothing bad happens. My thanks goes to lawrencel for the link.
I just downloaded and installed the "droid.cab (1469KB)" with expectation to be able to display chinese characters as well, and as the result, my HD has restarted by itself more than 10 times and I have not even saw the result yet. Now I have to find a way to uninstall it immediately. No sure what is the problem, but my HD cannot complete the reset process and keep restarting itself.
马兰花全屏手写 is this simplified chinese only?
No way to back out. I have to hard-reset my HD. I would advice you not to install this.
I have never seen such an intrusive software.
No easy way out
Here's a detailed reply I got on another forum :
The problem with IE (and any other browser/email program) is that most mainland chinese web pages are encoded in GB2312. A lot of traditional ones use Big5. The code pages for these charsets aren't included in the standard windows mobile builds. There are a few solutions to this problem:
Install the code pages
Unfortunately easier said than done. The relevant file is called wince.nls, and you can get the right version it if you search for it. However the only way to install it is download a ROM where someone cooked it in, or cook it in yourself.
Install CE-Star
CE-Star has a special hack which installs the full wince.nls file. However I believe it's this hack along with their anti-piracy garbage that makes CE-Star so flaky on many systems. However if reading this content is important to you you're pretty much stuck with this option unless you're technical and enterprising enough to muck with the first option.
I am only interested in simplified Chinese, but given what I've been hearing about CE-Star, I most probably won't install it. Until I find a ROM to download, I will stick with A4 and go check my Chinese mail directly with Opera.
And I'll check whether I can get any replacement email program that can handle Chinese, don't know whether QMAIL does.
Has anyone found so far any trusted method to receive sms, mails, surf web in chinese and keep the system in english??
Has anyone install the msjh.cab file lawrencel is talking about?
So far 2 members has installed the droid file, for one it worked marvellous for the another it was a disaster
Sorry to hear this is still a problem for some. What I didn't realise until a couple of days ago is that CE-Star Suite II is bundled with the Touch HD English version here in HKG. The EULA shows "CE-Star 1.1 License Agreement (05-25-2000)". I haven't installed it (and don't plan to because droid works) it but maybe someone has and can report back for other users.
works partially
with both the sunglobe font and ZTA4_VGA installed, I enter text in Chinese, display Chinese without any problem in Opera, IE, SMS, outlook-synched email, and the subject line of downloaded pop3 emails. Of course Pleco works beautifully, but they have their own system. All of the above in both simplified an traditional characters.
What I still can't do is read the body text of pop3 emails, which drives me crazy. I suspect this has to do with GB-encoding (I use simplified Chinese), which does not seem to be supported by either FlexMail or the WM native mail.
The weird thing is, I have an auto-forward from my pop3 email to Outlook at the office. After synching, the emails that come out garbled in my pop3 inbox display perfectly in the outlook inbox. It looks like Outlook does perform the GB to UTF-8 conversion automatically.

chinese input writing system

Hi there am using HTC 7501 looking for a software that can input Chinese words
using stroke method (writing) am not familair with the pinyin system
tks
i personally am using the CE-Star app.
It works pretty well as you can use the stylus for brush strokes or via pinyin
this is my first post and not sure about the linking etiquette, but you can goggle for it easy enough
hope that helps
Hi there, eddiepbauer, thanks for your reply,I have been told about CE Star, but
from a posting in a forum, there was this problem that the input frame for Pen-power is too small and the text is tiny,do you have the same problem???
btw which version of CE Star you are using??
tks
sogou chinese input
sogou sip.. chinese input is the best chinese input nowadays.. FREE, easy to use, fast.. and also support to all smartphone include WM5 , WM6... and symbian all version. if you already have CE star... u don't need to uninstall it.. it can also work together.
let's have a try to http://shouji.sogou.com/ and choose your mobile operating system
the latest update is 2009-08-17
Hi there elvia thanks for the info, will give it a try and will let you know the
result
For Chinese suport, Personally, CEstar is not a good option. What you need are just FONT and INPUT.
Try to find this if you can read Chinese. INPUT

See how they use Michy's ROM for Chinese.

Hi there wadeshi, may I know what type of input you are using??
I am basically looking for a pen-input (writing) to use with my dictionary
I am not familair with pin yin system
well, now that you mention it and I went back to check, the pen power sip IS rather small.
it's irrelevant tho. I don't know how others use it, but for me, I could draw anywhere on the screen and it works fine. the only time i use the input area is when i "spell" a character incorrectly or if there are similar looking characters and it gives a list of chars to choose from.
as for text size... it's rather small on the 92dpi resolution, but i'm able to read it and don't need to adjust text size
/shrugs
the best way is to simply try it for yourself, as far as i know there aren't any crash issues involving this program

[RESOLVED] No other beta-testers needed to verify spellchecking in Spanish

Hello,
I am a hobby-developer of a spellchecking-engine, in the form of a library, which other developers may add to their applications for Windows Mobile. Please see the thread in my signature for further information.
However, this time I need some help from you end-users to verify the correctness of the suggestions (replacements for misspelled words) produced by my spelling-engine. This is important so I know that the replacements are accurate and reasonable and that the word list (dictionary) I am using is good.
I need to verify Spanish, French and German so if (any) above language(s) is (are) your mother-tongue(s) or if you know them very well, please send me a PM with your e-mail (and indicating which language you would like to help me with) and I will send you a test application. For the time being, this test-application is a normal desktop Windows application (a text editor in which you can load any text file and perform spellchecking and which is good enough for the purpose of verifying the results of the spelling-engine).
Edit: No further beta-testers needed. I might need others later on when verifying other languages
In the future, I will add other languages as well. If you want some languages added and you can provide me a word list (or dictionary) of said language, please let me know.
Many thanks in advance for your help.
if/when you'll need Italian, gimme a shot
Grazie.
I had actually planned to include Italian with the current version of my spellchecker but unfortunately the only word list (dictionary) I found have all words without accents.
For instance:
arriverà - in the dictionary it is: arrivera
più - in the dictionary it is: piu
ecc.
My idea for Italian was to find maybe 10 users (or even more) who could use the spellchecker from MS Word or OpenOffice to correct the words in my current word list without accents. At the end, we would have a corrected word list which would be good. My idea was to send to each person helping with Italian, only a part from the dictionary. Let's say: Person 1 gets all words from A to C, Person 2 gets all words from D - F and so on. If you know some other Italian people who would like to help me with this, please let me know. The more we are, the faster the dictionary will be ready. What do you think?

I think spellchechers are not so smart: you'll come out having a lot of strange words
But if you know how to convert .dic/.aff from OpenOffice dicts, here (attached) is the italian OpenOffice dictionary.
Otherwise, i'll manually convert it (as i already did for Scrobble), but we'll lose all the rules (verbs will be only in infinitive form, for example, as they are in usual dictionaries)
Ciao,
No, I didn't use the one from Scrobble. The dictionary I am using was compiled by Luigi M Bianchi and you can download a copy of the dictionary here (http://www.winedt.org/Dict/). It's very complete and lists more than 277,000 words!
However, I had a look at the dictionary you supplied to Scrobble and I think I'd like to use that one instead since it is much smaller (and more suited for Windows Mobile since less memory is required to load it). It has most verb forms present (arriva, arrivi, arriviamo ecc.). However the problem is that it is still without accents But the time needed to correct it should take less.
My spellchecking-engine does not use the Affix-system used by OpenOffice (which is using Hunspell) or likes such ASpell and ISpell. This system is far too memory-hungry (in my opinion) for Windows Mobile although I considered it. For more information what my spellchecking-engine is using, please see the link in my signature.
I tried once to expand an .aff-dictionary (with its corresponding affix-file) but I couldn't get it right. In any case, I think the end-result would be a huge dictionary.
If you still have the Scrobble-dictionary with all accents available, I'd love to use it. Otherwise, I believe that the Scrobble-dictionary would be the right candidate for creating a new dictionary WITH accents using the method mentioned in my previous post.

Google keyboard personal dictionaries strange issue...

Hello,
I use the stock Google Keyboard (version 4.0.21203) with Greek and English languages installed.
Each time i add a new custom word, it's stored in a custom personal dictionary (named "zz") and not
in the English dictionary (or the "All languages" one), like it should. The worst thing is that words
stored in this elusive "zz" dictionary, don't show up as predictions when i type.
This thing is driving me insane for the last couple of years. I still haven't found any solution after
extensive searching on the web. I would be more than grateful to anybody who could help me with this.
(I've tried other keyboards like SwiftKey and Fleksy but i still prefer Google's one)
