How to get rid of .621 ota nag? - Droid X General

I'm getting nags a few times a day since my phone downloaded the ota, and wants to install it.
Since no one's workin on it, or seems to have found a oot method, I don't want to take the ota, at least for now.
How do I tell my phone to stop bugging me about it?

Freeze, or remove, the '2.3.3 updater' application.

Sitting here in recovery...

Well I unrooted my phone last night because I thought I needed to do so in order to receive the latest OTA from HTC, which I learned later that I probably didn't actually need to do.
Anyway I have just rooted the phone again, and silly me, I forgot to remove some of those pointless pre-installed apps. So I actually had to do the root process again (which I can about do blindfolded now).
And onto the actual point of the post:
Besides removing apps and giving SU privileges, is there anything else worthwhile that I can do for my phone while I am still in recovery? I haven't been keeping up too much on the latest hacks and tricks.
Thanks for any info ppls
I guss u can install a custom Rom if u wanted too

Fascinate OTA update underway

I just did a check for updates on my Fascinate, and it pulled down a 697KB update, SCH-I500_DH12_to_DI01. Not sure what it changes, etc.
I was able to download it, but I can't get it to install. It keeps failing. Do I have to unroot to install?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Not sure. Some guys in #samsung-fascinate on irc.freenode.net are going to mess around with it.
I got it. I think it installed correctly. Baseband ends in DI01 now.

did you lose root?
got mine really don't notice a difference..anyone else?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App & yes I'm a chick.
Just tried to trigger the update - got a Server Unavailable message. Guess they took it down??
Mine failed. Says IP previous update failed now.
the is a list of changes in one of the threads in dev section.
you have to have a stock /system to be able to apply so if you removed any bloat must put back or flash with odin
Ota will cause root lose but we have a flashable zip with root if you got clockwork running

Same issue here
Mine failed as well with the following error code: "UPDATE FAILED or INCOMPLETE. reason: IP_PREVIOUS_UPDATE_FAILED."
I wasn't rooted, but I do have third party software installed. Any ideas why I can't get the update to stick?
I tried the update on my non rooted phone. I mean i've never even done anything extra to it, and i still got the update failed reason: IP_PREVIOUS_UPDATE_FAILED
I'm thinking there must be something wrong with the update.
I'm having the same issue with "IP_PREVIOUS_UPDATE_FAILED".
I was rooted+lagfixed but went back to stock using the ODin restores, still getting the above. I've tried it with and w/o CWM enabled as well.
*EDIT*: I just want to note that the phone attempts to reboot and install the update, and I can see (VERY briefly) the recovery manager attempting to apply the update. In this, I was able to see 'signature verification failed' amongst the normal messages.
Hmm, if you're running the stock recovery, and stock everything else, and you see a "signature verification failed" error, then the downloaded patch must be corrupt. I'm guessing you might need to delete the downloaded files and force it to redownload the patch, but I have no idea how to do that.
On a side note, I just applied the official patch to my rooted and lag-fixed Fascinate yesterday, by temporarily reverting to stock, and re-rooting afterward. I posted the steps I took to do this over in the development forum, for those that are interested: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792652
I called verizon and talked to tech support about the IP_PREVIOUS_UPDATE_FAILED problem, he didn't have a fix. So he said i can take my phone back to the store and have it replaced with a new one.
Anyone know where I can find the bloatware apk files? I got a little trigger happy and deleted them instead of renaming. I can't install the update until I replace them.
Any help with this...
I was rooted with lag fix and OTA installed unannounced. So I lost root as expected. Meanwhile, seems I have the update but each reboot brings the update screen back, over and over again. Baseband and build number are updated. I have rerooted, un-lag fixed. Trying to get this update to stop showing up because its KILLING my battery. Thanks for any help.

This link has been posted multiple times. Please search. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8450686
If your Fascinate (unrooted, cannot speak to rooted phones) will not take the update, AFAIK your only option seems to be the 30 day return policy at Verizon. Last week after over two hours in the store they finally swapped, but even that phone would not take the update. I went in today, got a new phone, and it took the DI01 update. Third times the charm.
Its updated for sure and currently rooted. When the phone reboots it says installation starts in "x" and counts down. I have to defer for 24 hrs to keep from irritating me. I may try the store for an exchange.

Went back to 2.1, auto rotate doesnt work anymore...

So this same issue happened to me a few weeks ago. I thought something was wrong with my phone hardware wise. I then flashed to the latest midnight and boom auto rotate works beautifully, albeit i had to do the lag fix but it worked. Now Im returning to 2.1 to be ready for 2.2 official and bam its not working again. Anyone know whats going on? Im trying a different file of the di18 official to see if that does the trick but i doubt it...
Does anyone know what the build before di18 was? gonna try flashing to that and upgrading via ota...
for screen rotation fix do this: get android terminal from market. type"su" (without "") then type /system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yahama and hit enter. follow the onscreen instructions.
I knew that. If you reread my post I said I ran the lag fix on midnight. I cant do it on 2.1 because I dont want to root. root= no ota... right?
oh sorry i didnjt see that. if you dont root then no there is no other fix.
Without root there is no known way to fix it. At least no posted way. A dev may be able to figure it out. Installing CyanogenMod fixes the problem without having to put in that code, so maybe noobnl or somebody else working on it knows how to fix it.
Has anyone even experienced this??? I find it really weird that auto rotate wont work for me on a stock rom but it did on a baked one. Is there a way to unroot and undo everything that one click root 2.5.5.0 does? If so i'll root and fix it then unroot.

Why don't you just root with z4root and then when finished you can unroot? If you need the apk for it I can post it. That would be easy to do and fix your problem. If you do decide to use z4 root then make sure you check permanent root and not temporary toot cause the superuser icon wont go away if you select temp. Root.

I also had the same issue. I had to flash back to 2.1 (DI18) because I wanted my phone fixed after i dropped it. You can take it to the sprint store. The service repair tech said he has never seen that happen to an epic before and order me a replacement phone! I started laughing after I hung the phone up. down side its a refurb phone
Yyeah that's true. If you ever wanted to.get a replacement phone just do this trick and take it in.

With my refurb phone. I rooted it then used odin to go back to stock and the rotation worked fine. When u was first rooted did u use ext 4 roms. That is the only difference between my last phone and this one.

Root your phone, perform the fix, then unroot your phone, and wait (patiently) for the OTA.
This is totally random, and I don't claim it to be a "fix" per se, but I have had this problem twice after flashing back to 2.1 from 2.2 and both times I was able to fix the issue by playing the included Asphalt 5 demo for a couple minutes (basically long enough to steer the car with the sensors for about a minute or less).

Avoiding OTA ATT updates.

I've searched to no avail on my phone for this. I am running GreyBlur. Everytime the phone downloads an OTA update and attempts to install it, it reboots and errs out. I hate this because it does it without my permission. Is there something to stop this without the bootloader unlock that we are all waiting for?

You still running 1.57?

Yes. Use TiBU to freeze updater.
All I see in TiBU is that I can freeze updates for certain apps. I am running 4.1.57. I just want it to stop trying to send any ATT updates like the HSPA update. (I already had it, wink wink, nod nod) How do I go about doing that in TiBU?
Tibu< backup/restore< "click to edit filters"< filter by name: "updater"< apply< updater2.2.2< freeze!
or you can jsut deactivate motoblur if you dont need it for fb and other syncing.

[Q] Temp root after OTA Gingerbread update?

Since I purchased this phone I have had to Factory reset 3 times. Every time I lose all my save games. I have had to restart Zenonia every time. I am unsure I will ever finish this game. I discovered Visionary (for temp root until restart) and purchased Titanium Backup. It work great!
Now I see that we are going to be pushed Gingerbread. Have I wasted 6 bucks on Titanium backup? Is there an app that will provided the same functionality as Visionary on Gingerbread? I am happy with my stock phone. I just need the ability to backup my data. If I want to root my phone should I do it before the update? I read it will be more difficult with Gingerbread installed but I am also getting the impression that the Gingerbread update will not be pushed to my phone if I root it. Is this true?
No you will not get the OTA if you are rooted. If you do want to root your phone, you should do so before the update.
If its not 2.3.4 then gingerbreak MIGHT. Work
