So I'm trying to consider whether I will purchase the International version or the LTE Canadian version...
I know that in terms of the processor's, quite frankly, they are identical for performance, with the LTE having better cores but the International having 4, so this isn't exactly a problem of "which is better"..
What I'm curious about, is how easy/likely are ports of ROMs and Mods going to be from the international version to the LTE version? Because quite frankly even if the Canadian version is outright better I want some dev support.. :/
What do you guys think? Same dilemma as with the HOX intn'l vs LTE ><
I will take LTE speeds and the 2 GB memory...

No yeah they seem awesome and the CPU will perform pretty much identically, but I really like the dev community the HTC Desire Z had and I want something similar :/
There probably wont be many ports of international roms if any at all. Though, if the Canadian and US versions are the same that will certainly bring more to the lte version in the way of development.
I'm getting the international version version for several reasons.

Well i mean it does have over 60 thread on it ! That's not too shabby.. I want a way to get the phone cheap but there's no way bell will carry the international version i may just have to wait for the next nexus.. *sigh* this coulda been cool haha, expecting as much development as the s2
Rooting the phone was pretty strait forward.
Until I tried to flash an omega rom for i9300.
I thought since the recovery and boot partition are separate hard bricking the phone is near impossible.
it is very possible.
sent it to mobile tech videos for a JTAG repair.
It just arrived today ill keep you guys posted.

I'd guess he failed to pay attention to his phone model and the intended phone model for the ROM.

To be fair, it doesn't help that they're all called "Galaxy S III" while having very different internals. It does make accessories and stuff a lot better though.

I think if you are rooting and flashing ROMs to your phone, you should at least know the model number like how the Sprint GSIII is SPH-L710.

Hi Guys,
So I've just put a deposit down on the S4 with Carphone Warehouse, as I've waited so long for something worthy of replacing my S2 I had to have one, but I've missed the S3 generation entirely, so I'm not sure what the story is with the Exynos processors...
Basically, I don't care about flashing custom ROMs on my phone at all, I went through all that with my old HTC HD2 just in an effort to make it usable, but thats not really necessary anymore. I would, however, like to root my S4. Is this something thats likely to be possible in the not too distant future, or will Samsungs reluctance to help Devs put an end to this as well as custom ROMs?

Yes possible and easily unlike other manufacturers.
Just don't expect CM.
That is good to hear I'm not really bothered about CM anyways to be honest, I ran it for a while on the S2 but preferred the working touchwiz experience to the stock, not working CM at the time...
Its easy to root but development wont be so good if you are going to get exynos model. Qualcomm is another story,opposite..

Hey guys
So Google will be releasing their own version of the Galaxy S4 ("Clean" Version) pretty soon.
Will we be getting the chance to install this ROM over our current phones? (i9505 + i9500)
Or is it just for people who bought this specific phone?
Thank you,

With regards to aosp roms, the i9500 is doomed, my friend. Doomed. Anyone compiling aosp for i9500 is wasting their time because exynos 5410 is even worse than 44xx.
So the joke's on you for not buying the qcomm version.

I live in Europe as well but luckily they chose to market the LTE variant here. You could have imported an i9505, though.
Look, what they release on arndale has nothing to do with what they have in their phones. If I'm wrong on that, I'd request an insight from @Entropy512 because he knows a lot about this stuff.
I would like a better insight as well.

Remember, this is a stock Android UI - so far, nothing more (such as AOSP support) has been announced, and I suspect it's unlikely. So it actually will be of zero benefit for AOSP bringups like CM.
As far as porting it just like porting a TW firmware between Qcom devices? Maybe, I don't know how successful people have been in doing such a thing. (e.g. if they've got it as automated as I did with Hellraiser on the I777).
Since I9500 is Exynos, the Google Edition is of zero use for that device.
As I said long ago when the Google Edition was first announced:
If it's not AOSP supported, it basically means nothing
If it's AOSP supported and qcom, it's nice but not a huge benefit since CAF is already quite good
If it's AOSP supported and Exynos, that's a game changer and would be what would cause me to consider Samsung again. But we know for certain it's not Exynos, and it's highly unlikely it'll be AOSP supported - Samsung's underlying base software is too Samsunged (hacked up) in the non-GE GS4s for them to have AOSP support any time soon. The Google Edition is just covering up their crappy underlying software with a less sucky UI as far as I can tell. We'll know for sure when the device is released.

They won't be able to include Samsung drivers into the device. If you use a non stock rom now watch on won't work because it doesn't know where to find the infrared.
I hope that Google does it right and gets the sensors to work but at this point it doesn't seem like they will. Maybe Samsung will release the drivers someday

Seriously starting to doubt it.
I'm actually thinking of selling my device and getting the snapdragon variant.
I heard there's going to be a version with the snapdragon 800 + LTE
so I might wait for that and replace my phone.
So sad

Dear Mods,
I know I'm not alone when I say this, but we would like our own forum for our Canadian variant of our device. As our device is significantly different from other variants, and nobody likes specific projects for N900W8 to be jumbled along with ROMs for N900 or N9005 (as they can't be installed on a W8 device without major issues), I would like to start a poll to gather people who would like a clean forum, not a forum with three different variant's ROMs jumbled up together that aren't cross flashable.
Also asking questions and finding solutions is easier when the entire forum uses the same device, so a solution for the specific device is much more convenient in the same forum!
Also go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46446026&postcount=11600 to like my post and also post a quick reply saying you want the N900W8 as well!
Thanks a lot!

This sure would make things a lot easier that's for sure...especially once things really get going with development and once our phones have roms released
I agree with this idea!
Yes please !
Another yes. It's always been jumbled together with AT&T and then i have to manual filter to find items that are applicable.
+1 On this. Right now I'm reading on different sub forums to find out which model my phablet actually is compatible with.

Agreed we need our own forum since the cross flashing as seen with s3 and s4 arent going to apply with N3 so it would seem.

flashing Roms even from other versions of the same model don't work. We definitely need our own board.

Bell/telus..rogers/fido probably.
Wind runs on diff frequencies. ..people on wind dont even get LTE. having this phone and no lte is like having a ferrrari but you cant take it out of first gear!
At the very least wind users will need to flash another baseband to run a rogers or bell ROM

I'm just wondering, would it be possible to eventually kind of convert the Canadian Note 3 variant into an American variant? I don't think I've read about any hardware differences between the two variants. Also, I can't imagine there would be too much development for just the Canadian Note 3 alone (or has there been an active developer community for Canadian devices previously?).

I think that is because at&t is SGH-i337 and rogers/bell is SGH-i337M; T-mobile is SGH-M919, Wind is SGH-M919V.
But now the model name is big difference, dont know if the hardware has different or is bootloader lock or not difference.

That raises a question too. Is the Wind version of W8 actually the same as the Robellus W8? Even though numbers match up, we won't know till we can compare the stock ROMs with each other.
