Rooting the phone was pretty strait forward.
Until I tried to flash an omega rom for i9300.
I thought since the recovery and boot partition are separate hard bricking the phone is near impossible.
it is very possible.
sent it to mobile tech videos for a JTAG repair.
It just arrived today ill keep you guys posted.

I'd guess he failed to pay attention to his phone model and the intended phone model for the ROM.
Damn that sucks dude, idk why people with the US version always try to flash our ROM's, just doesn't make sense!

To be fair, it doesn't help that they're all called "Galaxy S III" while having very different internals. It does make accessories and stuff a lot better though.

The title of the forum is Galaxy S III I9300, and the US forums has ATT and all the other carriers in the title. I think they should just rename it to International Galaxy S III I9300

I think if you are rooting and flashing ROMs to your phone, you should at least know the model number like how the Sprint GSIII is SPH-L710.

I still don't get the "international" label we put on phones. The US version is the only one that's different. If anything, there should be a "standard" version and a "US" version.

Hey all
Someone gave me a Verizon Galaxy S. Is this a fascinate??
Anyway, I'm in the UK and this thing is CDMA :-( Any suggestions of what to do with it?
Yes it is. I would root it and unlock it if possible. The i would install a custom kernel and rom.
Btw i have a tmobile galaxy s, but the things you can do should be the same.

Because he said "Verizon Galaxy S" , so it must Fascinate
For OP : I live in Southeast Asia and im using Fascinate, just unlock the device and then inject with my local carrier (CDMA for sure), voice, sms, and data work perfectly.
Woah, Wait up guys, you seem to have forgotten something!
The Fascinate is not the only Galaxy S phone on Verizon! The Samsung Continuum (Crappy in comparison, no AMOLED) is also labeled as a Galaxy S!
OP, take off the back cover and take out the battery and tell us what is says for model, if it says SGH-i500 it's a Fascinate.

Last I checked the guy wanted to know what is was, we already told him no mater what it will not do GSM.
So I'm trying to consider whether I will purchase the International version or the LTE Canadian version...
I know that in terms of the processor's, quite frankly, they are identical for performance, with the LTE having better cores but the International having 4, so this isn't exactly a problem of "which is better"..
What I'm curious about, is how easy/likely are ports of ROMs and Mods going to be from the international version to the LTE version? Because quite frankly even if the Canadian version is outright better I want some dev support.. :/
What do you guys think? Same dilemma as with the HOX intn'l vs LTE ><
I will take LTE speeds and the 2 GB memory...

No yeah they seem awesome and the CPU will perform pretty much identically, but I really like the dev community the HTC Desire Z had and I want something similar :/
There probably wont be many ports of international roms if any at all. Though, if the Canadian and US versions are the same that will certainly bring more to the lte version in the way of development.
I'm getting the international version version for several reasons.

I have T-Mobile service. I had hoped to be able to flash a recovery and then a T-Mobile ROM but so far it looks like this isn't possible. Or is it?
Nope. I don't think it will work.
Sprint is cdma and tmobile is gsm.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Sprint's Galaxy S4 has T-Mobile's HSPA+ GSM bands so technically it COULD work, only problem is the sim slot is locked to international providers only so until someone finds away to unlock it, no go.

Three major problems with this scheme:
1. Domestic GSM lock. Who known when or if this will ever be worked around.
2. Lack of LTE support for TMO (or AT&T) LTE.
3. Lack of support for AWS HSPA while TMO's HSPA 1900 deployment is still poor in many areas.

I have an upgrade available and am considering moving from the One to the SGS 4.
I'm on AT&T. From what I've been reading, and I've been reading for a while now, if my SGS 4 comes with the latest firmware out of the box, I can root it, but Loki, therefore custom ROMS and recovery are out. Is this correct?
I was hoping to be able to put the Google edition ROM on the SGS 4.
Someone please set me straight.
Please and thanks
Correct, if it has the latest firmware than no flashing roms

The firmware version is on the side of the box, if I am not mistaken. I just got my S4 shipped directly from AT&T. It came with MDL.

If you want to install custom ROMs, yes.
Sent from my SGH-I337 using xda premium
Typically, at least from what ive seen, the ATT box will have an "Updated" sticker on it if the firmware has been updated. My GS3 had that.
I have both the One and the S4. I don't think I'd give up the one for the s4.

Just go to the store and ask the sales tech to find one that ends in MDL and NOT one that ends in MF3.
It sounds crazy or embarrassing, but it is not! Certainly it is not illegal or wrong to do this.
Others have done that and the AT&T folks really don't care, or if they do select another sales person or even another store (like Best Buy or even Costco and Radio Shack! Those other stores may even have better insurance plans than AT&Ts!)
(As to which phone. ...the HTC One is prettier, and it is unique in design, but would you be happy with less/slower ram, no changeable battery, no SD card, and a smaller screen? The S4 also has some very nice camera options that seem (to me at least) a bit better than the HTC One. Of course, it is all personal preference . . )
Good Luck!

I went to an AT&T store a few days ago to get a secure element for free (SIM) and received a text survey the next day. I gave the employee a 10 but said I wouldnt recommend at&t to a friend, and everything else I gave low low reviews. They called me several hours later and I let them know why... I am sure it doesnt mean much... but at least they know I think they suck!
The people on the phone tried to help... but didn't really know how to go about getting someone to talk to me about bootloaders... they even recommended me checking out XDA to unlock it... LOL awesome.
I told them that I am perfectly fine with voiding my warranty... so can I please get this flashed to an international version... no idea how to answer something like that... oh well...

Yeah right. I'm sure this thread will be locked. I knew what I was getting when I bought it. I really didn't care as long as I could root.
If flashing and ROMing is that important, get a different phone. The T-Mobile version of the Note 3 is unlocked and will work on AT&T. I prefer AT&T because I get 4G/LTE where I live and in the building where I work.
Very happy with my Note 3 rooted and using Xposed, Wanam, etc. No need for a custom ROM. At least for me anyways.
AT&T has analytics on social media and Web information they collect on what is being said about them. Most large companies do and thought this might get some attention.
