You need to the phone. To do that, the battery needs to be for a couple seconds then you can the battery in.

After that answer we can finally close this thread!
I ran into the same issue. I had stock, wanted to try Cm6, had to flash a different boot leaders to get Cm6 to flash properly.
Then I thought id see if I could go back to stock from a nandroid backup I made. Just as you had tried and I found out that I couldn't go back to stock via nandroid because of the same issue I had with going to Cm6 : the boot loader.
I made a nandroid backup up Cm6, booted to Cm6 and ran the 3.29.ruu exe on my desktop and this took me back to complete stock, even unrooted it.
So I rooted again via unrevoked, made a nandroid back up.
For the sake of testing I tried to restore from my nandroid backup of Cm6 and it worked. Then I restored back to stock via my nandroid and it worked.
Basically it came down to loader versions for me and bet that is your issue.
I know I rambled a bit but I think its relevant.

EC05 is our build number for Android 2.2.1 froyo.
Here's a video of odin.

This is how to one click root. Trust me, you'll want to use this one if you want to stick to the stock file system. I havent tried any of the ones that support both rfs and ext4.

Just reinstall titanium backup from the market, your backups are on the sd card and ill be left alone. (Though sometimes there's problems restoring from different kinds of roms)

I agree but i guess thats the price you pay to get the stock 2.3.4 right now
I spent most of the weekend researching what to do about this very thing. I was rooted but stock rom. I figured I needed a decision on what I was going to do before the OTA arrived.
After a lot of research I decided to go full S=off and install the Virtuous Unity ROM. I like Sense and it is a 3.0 ROM. If you wait for TMOB you'll only get 2.1.
EVERYTHING in this ROM works. None of the
"YOU GET THREADED TEXT MESSAGES!!! but the camera doesn't work"
Like in the bad old days of windows rooting.
I only wish I'd done this 6 months ago.
Yea every thing works but im wondering wit s off no root what can u do ?

Is it your intention to return to stock and run the phone unrooted with the 2.3.4 update or are you just concerned about having 2.3.4 on your phone? If you are looking for the most recent version of of Android OS, then MIUI is currently running 2.3.5... If you havent tried GenerationX mysense ROM, it is the newest update with bloat removed and i think there isnt anything broken with the faux's .7 kernel. Try it if you like stock, I bet you will like it.
I just want to get this straight, if someone can give an answer. My wife's phone currently has iced glacier and I want to go stock GB. If I take the phone to a Tmo store and ask for the update, it will take the phone back to stock and unroot? If so should I at least uninstall super user?

You could go to the store or you can download the same T Mobile sdcard update that Gr33nF0x posted http://megaupload.com/?d=N8XGHXJC (IF YOU ARE ROOTED YOU WILL LOSE IT)
1. Download the PD15IMG.zip file posted
2. Put file on the root of your sdcard (don't put it in any folder)
3. go to settings/applications make sure fastboot is unchecked (on 2.2.1)
4.power off
5. push and hold volume down and power till you get into hboot
6. it will scan file when its done it should ask you to update push volume up

The answer is yes. If you load the update, whether download the one on the forums here or update at T-mo you will lose root. No need to uninstall superuser, because the update will wipe all data.

Its my wifes phone and dosent need to mod it just needs to work properly. If I was to go the route of updating it with the rooted update, would I just need to flash through CW? To be honest I don't have much expreince with this phone as you can tell by how old her current rom is. Atleast with my phone its pretty much unbrickable, on this phone I wouldn't know how to recover if it did. I figure if tmobile does the update they are responsible for it. Is someone willing to post the steps for me?

If you want T Mobile to do it go to your local store let them do the sdcard update witch is the same as the one I posted one page back (Thanks goes to Gr33nF0x for uploading it) or wait for the OTA

So my Epic is currently rooted but mostly stock except for the bloatware gone. I am running the stock android recovery and don't have access to a computer for odining back to stock. I saw QBking's video for returning to stock however it looks like I would need clockwork installed. Are there any other options available to bringing back to complete stock since my touch screen stopped working and I want to take it back to the store.
I don't know if my local store will care if it is rooted but I have insurance on it and want to make sure it is taken care of.
Nope computer is the only way... unless you can find the re_rfs rom this will take you back to a stock look but further poking will sow your rooted however they have the stock recovery you can flash so ill find you the link to the rom give me some time

Look at this
There is the stock recovery flashable to turn it back into sprint don't forget to take your sd card out and leave it at home.....
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Thanks, I downloaded the stock look rom, but now I can't get clockwork to stick. I think as long as I can get SU removed, I don't think they will care. The screen should have no bearing on what apps are installed but I think my store is a non corporate store so I don't know.
Nevermind just keep ur sd card at home.... that would be the only give away and if they give you trouble then tell them its sprint policy reguardless of root or not to replace hardware if its hardware related.....
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Thank you so much. do you think it is worth going back to that rom or just take my card out and take it in as it stands.
I am still having a hard time getting into cwm through rom manager
Can't three finger salute to recovery?
If you have cwm then go ahead and flash the stock recovery..... via 3 finger salute (power button camera and volume down) same time*
And flash the stock recovery.zip in the rerfs rom thread. And you'll be good once su is gone and you have a stock setup.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
If you have the stock theme they wont care.... the SD has no data about root. It wont matter about bloatware, you can hide it without root... you should be fine.

It is an sdcard... it can be from an old phone or another phone. The clockworkmod folder is only there if you nandroid. Also apps like clockworknod tether from the market make this folder and don't need root.

True but how do you know some sprint tech will be smart enough to know that usually clockworkmod is a big red flag to them....and most root "nazis" will go a-wall still think its safer to delete it or remove the sd card.

I think taking your phone in rooted is overhyped. I've taken my phone in two seperate times rooted to be fixed. The only time I've ever heard anything about it is when the tech asked me where I got my cool theme.. Of course I said XDA!!
The cell phone police are not going to show up.

It all depends on the store... the store where I live (columbia, mo) doesn't care while the store where my niece lives (redwing, mn) refuses to work on rooted phones no matter what the issue... she brought it in rooted and they wouldn't even look at it after seeing it was rooted... they didn't redflag the account though because I told her to just unroot and bring it back... she did and they fixed it... so it all depends on the store...

Thank you all for your help. Evidentally my store doesn't care (edmond, ok). I walked in there and the tech and some customer were discussing CM7 so I figured all was good. He told me that he thought it was a loose connecting wire but it turned out that the digitizer failed and they would have to get me a new phone. Evidentally Epics are hard to get now so I am stuck with a Rumor 2 loaner phone until they find me another epic.

Can the Sprint Samsung Epic 4g on gingerbread 2.3.6 be rooted?
Hello to anyone who knows about rooting. I work in medicne so I can figure out anything with the human body but not with rooting my Samsung epic on gingerbread 2.3.6. I have tried different developers, different sites, and read till I went crazy. The lingo gets old. It would be like me talking to the common public about the interpetation of hemodynamic readings and congestive heart failure. Anyhow, I rooted my epic 4g before it automatically upgraded to gingerbread...then it froze...I researched and unbricked it with a program everyone said did not work...but it worked to unbrick my phone even though it was supposed to root my phone...it just reset it to where it was usable again. When I try to go to certain websites for rooting files to download...they seem to be missing...hmmmm. So again, can the samsung epic 4g on gingerbread 2.3.6 be rooted? If it can, please direct me to some site...so far...I have tried about 5 different sites...no luck. It is also very hard to find anything specific on gingerbread 2.3.6 on rooting...alot of info. on the other versions.

there is a thread that tells you a 3 step method. if you wanna flash another rom then here is what I did. Download the rom you want and put on the sd card. download odin if you do not already have it. download cwm-5.0.2.7-epic4g.tar.md5. open odin uncheck every thing even reboot. then click pda put the cwm.tar into the pda. make sure your phone is in download mode. by holding the #1 button on the keyboard and the power button. plug the phone in to the usb. a yellow com box should pop up. hit start it shouldn't take long but it will complete and the phone will still be on. unplug your phone and take the battery out. put the battery back and turn on using the 3 finger method. ( vol. down, camera and power button) then wipe data, wipe cache, go into advance and wipe dalvik. press the back button click then click install zip from sdcard. click choose zip from sd card and then choose your rom and install that should be all. if you want to stay stock and just be rooted you need to download superuser.zip the link is found in the first video. you do the first part the same but instead of wiping every thing you go start into install zip and then choose the super user zip. reboot your system. then you have to go into the root explorer and delete a file but I cant remember the file name. but then you turn your phone off and then you have to odin cwm again. then you will be rooted. i will edit this when i can remember the file name unless some one beats me to the punch. i hope this helps if not pm me and i will try to help i am going to be flashing back to stock and re rooting to day so..
Thanks...I will try it again.
