Just when you think you have this cursed tablet at least stable, something else happens. So the Google Market app decided to update itself to the Google Play Store. Now it force closes every time it's opened. Anyone getting the same (not getting the same?)? Any solutions? I tried manually side-installing another copy of the Play Store that I found online, but that made no difference.
I was able to fix this. I went into the Application Settings and cleared the data for the Google Play Store app. I then pressed the button to force stop the Google Play Store app, which I think caused the whole launcher to close and restart. After that, opening Google Play Store brought the "update" message and license agreement again without force closes. It's been running okay so far.
I was having the same issue with my store after attempting to rent a movie. Play Store and Play movies would FC every time. The clearing data trick didn't work. I had to to restore with a CWR backup.
try wiping 3 times. I have not had one problem since.

Found this on a less traveled site: This did the trick for me.
I had this problem and called Google Support. They were very helpful. What I had done is disabled the Download Manager when trying to get rid of the Facebook download notification. Go into Settings...Appplication manager. ..All...then find and click on Download Manager.
**Note: that if it is disabled it will be at the very bottom of the list of apps. Once you click on Download Manager you can click to enable it again. This worked for my problem at least so I'm posting hoping it may help others.

If you think the Google Play Music update caused the issue, go into your Apps/Google Play Music. Clear data, and "Uninstall Updates". If your Play Store works now, try reapplying the GP Music update.
it doesn't have uninstall updates on there... so i just went into the store and tried downloading 100 floors and the store has now crashed again lovely lol
I'm having the same problem. The play store screen flashes then crashes.

I'm having the same problem with my GNex. Hope it's that Play Store needs an update, and it happens ASAP
I'm having the problem with my HTC Desire C... Really bugging me since I've only had it for a day...
Recently, I tried to manually install some updates for applications on my Nexus 4 running stock and unrooted Android 4.2.1. As soon as I selected "Update All," Google Play immediately closed. There wasn't a fade-out animation like you would see when hitting the home button; it just closed and the home screen appeareared right away. There wasn't a "Google Play is not responding" dialogue, it just closed and wouldn't work.
From then, I tried opening Google Play again, and the app would launch, but then close right away before I get to see any activities. I cannot open Google Play, and I don't know why. I am running Play Store 3.10.10, which I believe is the latest version. I can successfully open Google Play again going to its App Info, selecting 'Force stop' and then 'Clear data'. After that, I am prompted to accept Google Play's terms and services, as if opening it for the first time. I can then use Google Play normally, but it closes again as soon as I try to install or update an app. What's going on?
Update
I contacted Google directly, and the solution to my problem involved these steps:
1. Clear data/cache for Google Play, Google Services Framework, and Download Manager
2. Restart Phone
I then had another issue displaying installed apps in the Play Store (it appeared blank). To solve that issue, I had to remove my Google account, restart the phone, then re-add my Google account, and it works again!
You can try to install the factory version of Play again by using the .apk in system/app. I don't exactly know which app, but Phonesky.apk has the Google Play logo

I tried rolling back to the factory default, but my problem persists. I wonder if it's a connection problem; I am in China by the way. I am using a home wifi network. I haven't been experiencing this problem for as long as I have been here, until yesterday. Perhaps when Play Store launches, it tries to connect to google, and then some sort of in-app command forces it to close because it got scared of something!
Since I've been using KitKat a website that I use often automatically loads the Play store to try to force me to use their not very good app.
If I try to swipe away the Play store then it crashes and I'm left no longer in the browser. As a result, I've suffered from random reboots and overheating.
I've managed to solve the problem by doing a factory reset and uninstalling the Playstore before using the website. I've got a copy of the Play store app which I install when needed, but always uninstall it before using the website that automatically loads it.
I now very rarely get reboots whereas before I was getting several a day and my tablet no longer overheats.
Does anyone know of a way of stopping a website automatically loading the Play store in KitKat?
Thanks

Hi,
Can you please tell what's the website? Sometimes it will ask either you'll open the Play Store or you'll use Play Store website, so you can try turning off defaults for Play Store via the app settings.

That or clear the defaults from the browser itself in manage apps under settings. Had to do this on two different phones from people at work the other day. When they clicked a link it came up with options on what to open with and they mistakenly hit 'always' when selecting the play store. Hope this helps

Here's an interesting one. MOJO has been fine for the longest time, but all of a sudden I'm finding the system locking up and needing a hard reboot when using the Google Play store.
This has only happened twice, but both very recently and both only when using the Play store. I've had to switch off the unit at the socket as the system is completely unresponsive.
Anyone else had this? I note that the Play store version I have is 8.0.73, and upon checking there are no updates available to it. Thanks all.
I'm guessing no then!
Well, I've cleared the Play Store's cache as well as the Google Play Services one, and now it seems to be saying it will download and install a new version of the Play Store. It doesn't seem to be in any kind of rush to do this however.
No freezes since clearing the caches, so hopefully once the store is updated that will be the end of it. Looking at the versioning numbers on the internet and it does seem that 8.0.73 is an older Play Store. Fingers crossed this is resolved. Will post back later.
Yep had this issue my self it's due to google play services likely outdated and or play store too, you will need to get to a working stage and then get into google, then type google play services update choose the play store webpage link for that result in google and click install button on the page for the google play services update choose open with google play store, then install it. This happens to tonnes of outdated devices not just the mojo phones and tv boxes and tablets all go through it if out of date.
Actually I had been using the ROM for over a year before it happened. It's happened once since last posting in fact, but I notice that my Play store is up to date, and I also notice that the Play store seemingly updates on its own following a freeze. So I wonder if it is anything to do with that.
May possibly have solved this. Was still getting freezes upon exiting the Play Store even after a re-flash of CM12.1 with up to date GApps. The whole console would just freeze up on returning to the desktop, so that would involve pressing back to exit the Play Store until returning to the main screen. But this didn't happen all the time.
Then it dawned on me that it might be the bloody launcher I set as default home. I mentioned elsewhere that I'm using TopTV Launcher which I have really enjoyed. So I changed it to my favourite phone/tablet launcher - Nova.
Bugger me if it hasn't been absolutely fine since.
I'm going to keep hammering the Play Store for the next few days/weeks, as the freezes seemed to specifically occur when the Play Store was updating. But hopefully this is solved. /fingers crossed.
Lol no, crashes be back! Bit different on Nova Launcher. I exited the Play Store and then got "Unfortunately, Nova Launcher has stopped", rather than an outright freeze. Tried to re-select a different home/launcher, but got the same thing. "Trebuchet has stopped" etc. I had to fudge a route to the shutdown app by just pressing keys on my wireless keyboard, otherwise it was stuck in a loop. There's definitely something going on with Play Services imho. I've also tried clearing the cache and other solutions but to no avail. My Play Store is up to date too so it's not that.
The most interesting solution I've read so far is that Play Services gets jittery if it doesn't find certain apps installed, such as Maps etc. Now I do have a pretty pared down set installed. Maybe I'll try installing more Google apps, but isn't the point of rooting and flashing these devices so that you can control what you install? What's the point if I still end up installing all the crap I don't need anyway?
Still, I'll perhaps give it a go - or otherwise just throw either the MOJO or myself off a building!
guys uncheck & disable PlayStore and PlayService app in boost+ battery optimizion and your problem fixed
boost+ change resulation to lower of app in battery optimizion mode and new version of play store have problem with this mode
if problem in downloads of apps disable : Download and downloadmanager app in boost+
This fix didn't work for me.
Google play store would not work for me after deselecting this from the optimize apps in boost+. So I have now uninstalled the boost+ app and I still cannot get google play store to work.
I've tried clearing the cache in play store and play store services but no success there also.
I've also uninstalled updates for google play so I'm now at version 8.3.41.U-all (0) (FP) 170066753
Is there anything else I can try?

I had similar issue, so what I done, unistalled play store updates, then downloaded latest play store apk and installed it. Problem was fixed.
So far, I've tried everything in this thread other than the aptoid suggestion. The error keeps coming back and I'm slowly getting more and more apps that are also crashing. This seems to be since the Oreo update.
I've even done a full factory reset and the errors started coming back less than a week later.
Still no luck in finding a way to make this stop. HTC suggested rolling back to 7.1.1 but this will still factory reset everything. Then I have the added issue of not being on the latest update, leaving me without the most up-to-date security patches.
I've always loved HTC phones (especially the U11) but I'm very fast losing faith.
