Accidentally flashed full sbf - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So here it is, I accidentally picked the chinese JDGC_2.13.0 while flashing sbf and now my defy is a ME525 when I look into the phone information.
That sbf does not seem to be downgradable, as I only get a black screen after flashing any other sbf I used before, meaning the stock froyo or the nordic.
I seriously don't know what to do now. Is there something I can do to downgrade or make my phone a MB525 again?

I hate to break this to you,but i think you are screwed. If it is under warranty, give it to your service centre and act as if you know nothing. That is the best advice i can give you.Try to ask senior members about this and see if there is a way out of this.

you flashed a bl3 rom and now you cant downgrade to any froyo rom you flash this china rom and you need to have a froyo nanndroid buckap and an fixed sbf

Upgrade to a non chinese BL4 Froyo. Or if you wish you may update to a GB BL6!! However then your phone will become MB526(Defy+) and you won't be able to downgrade to Froyo again!
You can find them here or go to dev section of XDA...
You may also need this Defy Image tools Use them to check the BL version... (smgver.exe)

[Q] Reverting to stock Froyo ROM with T-Mobile US Defy

I'm planning on putting CM7 on my Defy, but before I do that I want to make sure I can go back to the original OS.
The problem is, I can't find a full SBF for my current ROM version (T-Mobile US 34.4.9, build 3.4.2-107_JDN-9) to use if something goes wrong. My Defy came with this when I bought it, so presumably I can't downgrade to an Eclair SBF and update from there. I've found the two other official Froyo SBFs though: the 3.4.2-107_JDN-3 and 3.4.2-107_JDN-4 SBFs. I read that the -3 one is a dev build and doesn't easily update, so I don't want to use it. But I'm not so sure about the -4 SBF. Can I just flash that with RSD and then use an OTA update to get back to my -9 build back?
I'm very new to this (first post!) so please tell me if I'm wrong.
Never mind, I found out I was wrong. The -4 SBF is a leak too. But the official Eclair SBF (6.36) has the same CG version as the Froyo ROMs, so I can just use that.

thanks!

I know, this is a really old post, but I have the same exact situation (except I want to try CM10 not CM7) and want to make sure I can go back to my stock T-Moble Froyo if something goes wrong. Can anyone confirm that going back to Eclair and then doing the OTA update back to Froyo works? I've seen other posts indicating that there are problems with this method.

[Q] Should I buy Defy+, considering no downgrade?

Hey all, well I wanna buy defy+ but have read all over the places that defy+ can't be downgraded. What if I installed ICS/CM9, will be be able to get back to normal sbf?
Am not noob, but confused, also tell me more things that I must know
Thanks in advance

Yes u can go stock from ica

can you link me to the thread, or some procedures. How can I get back to the stock ?
thanks
If you install ice cream sandwich, there won't be any troubles because it's not an actual upgrade (in the sense that only /system dir and the kernel will change). Thus, you just have to flash the right sbf in order to go back to defy+ official android build.
Use RSD Lite to flash a sbf.

Direct Answer: You can go ahead and buy the Defy+.
You should be able to use Gingerbread with absolutely no problems. And there is no point in downgrading to Froyo.
And once, ICS is out, you may work with either Gingerbread or ICS.
PS: Motorola just released the entire source code for Gingerbread.

[Q] Defy (green) stuck on Android 2.1-update 1, want to go to 2.2

I am preparing to move my defy to CM7.2 (or any custom rom) and I am currently stuck on Android 2.1.
I've read and researched everything about flashing and backup and what not... What I understand is:
1. If I flash a full SBF of a Android 2.2.x ROM, I won't be able to downgrade (I don't really need to as I am out of warranty anyways)
2. If I flash a FIXED SBF of 2.2.x or 2.3.x, I will need to also flash a nandroid backup. The problem is that I cannot find a pair of these to download (given all of the mediafire/etc links are now dead).
3. I really need a 2.3.x kernel to go to CM7 or CM9, most (all?) of these won't let me downgrade back to 2.2 (which if fine provided the 2.3.x stock rom I flash is rootable and will let me do wifi tethering).
My defy is green lens US Tmobile with Blur. I would probably be totally happy with a non-blur 2.2 or better rom. My motivation for this is that I need some apps that are 2.2+ :/
Thanks in advance for any help or guidance!!!

Yep what you told is pretty much correct! Just make sure you flash the correct SBFs (since it is greenlens).. And you may request to whoever uploaded to reupload the files.
For point 3.) CM7 and CM9 are available for Froyo kernel too.(And those are more frequently updated) So you can do a 2.2 SBF flash.
Moreover should you flash a fixed SBF you can always downgrade...
Happy flashing
you are awesome at answering my questions again! thanks =)
I now remember that CM7 + 9 can work with the froyo kernel, is there any reason to go to GB? I want to take this step by step... first is to get a working 2.2 version (deblured, since I am out of the country and had problems getting blur to reregister last time).
is there really any reason to go back to 2.1 if I go to 2.2?
i'll go beg on the ROMS thread to see if I can get one. Thanks!
Since you have a green lens (SOC) you should stay on the Froyo kernel. Do not go with the Gingerbread kernel because you won't be able to use your camera (except for the Greenbread mod, if I'm not mistaken, but you should stay away from it since it's a fix for a problem not an improvement).
I don't see any reason to go back to 2.1, especially because 2.2 was officially released and is covered by warranty. Since using ICS I won't even go back to 2.3 .

Ya even I feel the same! Since it is green lens better not go to GB. What is the need when you have so many option of ROMs (just get an awesome CM7 nightly or CM9!)..
So now all I need to do is find a good deblured android 2.2 SBF =)

defy cm7 stops at google screen

system version 2.13.0.me525.chinaunicom.en.cn

dunno if this means anything but bootloader was 9.10
what should i do now
mine is also 9.10
so i am guessing you still have bl4 ..
so try flashing this...
if you dont have Telstra australia mobile..
then let me know...
if it is not installed then try this and then install cm7 on it ....
thanks to the land of smeg,
Phone is up and running, not original but damn close.
I havent done a custom rom because I would probably pick the wrong one an stuff it up again
I will post his directions for anyone else who royally roots their phone like I did.
.
You need to flash the 3.4.2-179-2 CEE nandroid over your chinese ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=123
Then the 3.4.2-179-2 CEE fixed SBF
I can't find a working link for this. If you can't find one either you can make your own by downloading the Full SBF
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umts...vice1FF.sbf.gz
and then use SBF Depacker:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11195138
Delete the CG31 and CG39 and that will turn it into a Fixed SBF for you to flash.
Then install CM7 or CM9
make sure you use the CM7 kernel

No worries, glad to help.
This is the solution to downgrade JDGC_U6_2.13.0 Chinese ROM with a BL6 kernel.
Have to use Nandroid/Fixed SBF method as this ROM updates CDT(CG31) and SYSTEM(CG39) to version 6, once a version goes up it can't be put back down, and if you flash a Full SBF of a lower version then the black screen problem will happen, but the Fixed SBF method flashes everything except CDT and SYSTEM (which have lower version numbers) and the Nandroid backup overwrites SYSTEM with the data while still keeping it at "version 6" as this is the minimum.
In future, when flashing ROMs do NOT try to flash ROMs which have higher versions than the Stock SBF if you wish to keep warranty, as even though you have effectively still gone back to that ROM, if the service centre looks carefully they will see that you are on higher Version CDT and SYSTEM which means that you must have been messing around with ROMs.

Android 2.1= Eclair
Android 2.2= Froyo
You can't do anything until you update to 2.2
Search for RSD Lite to flash Froyo SBF files (ie stock ROMs). Plenty of info in this forum. Remember to wipe data & cache after flash.
After that, root, install 2nd-init.
For custom ROM I recommend CM10 4.1.2 since CM7 is a bit outdated.

I have read it and did not understand what to download or is it safe for my phone... One peace of info, leads me to another and I get confused.
Ok, so what exactly is your problem? chandujram linked the beginners guide, where you may find that you need RSDLite (the flashing tool) and a SBF file to flash matching your phone and region (and provider if you want) - both are linked in the thread. Follow the instructions to flash the SBF to your phone and you have Froyo/Gingerbread. This thread should give you a clue, what SBF is Froyo or Gingerbread - and what bootloader they bring. you have read and understood, that certain bootloader versions come with some restrictions, haven't you? Good. Then follow the instructions in the thread for the rom you posted.

I live in Israel. My carrier is Orange but I believe it previously belonged to Cellcom (another carrier).
I want to install CM7 because it seems awesome but it requires froyo 2.2 in order to flash. And Im on stock 2.1
Latest CM7 build is the best
@rizeN50:
Have you even read the thread? He ain't on Froyo or Gingerbread, yet.
@Bei60:
Well, Israel makes it quite easy, doesn't it? The SBF-list only shows one entry for Israel and the other thread shows only one entry, too. Either of them should be fine, but I didn't check them. If in doubt, take the one from the SBF-list. But I don't know, if they're GB oder Froyo.
