hello!
i have a huge problem with my sd card.
i tryd to backup my current rom using command "d2s" and it worked fine so far, checksum ok and all that.
then i removed the card and put it into my pc (cardreader)
trying to read the rom, it says:
C:\>ntrw read OriginalROM.nb1 G:
NTRW v2.00
Removeable media
Cylinders: 0:0
TracksPerCylinder: 1
SectorsPerTrack: 16
BytesPerSector: 512
bufsize is 65536
0 bytes written Res: 0 bytes: 0
ReadFile(): OriginalROM.nb1 -- The parameter is incorrect.
I my eyes, its strange that it says "0:0" Cylinders.
At the end, the tool never read something from my card. i gave it up then
Finally, trying to format my 1gb-card with windows, it worked and i could write/read the card.
BUT:
In my PPC, it says, the card is not formated and when i choose, yes my dear, make me a filesystem, it works in PPC, but no more in windows!
Whats the problem? It worked fine before making the boot-loader-rom-backup thing...
Anyone some tips?
(Sorry for my bad english )
Hello friend,
As long as its recognized by your PPC, its not a big problem your stuck with. Try re-formatting your card in your PPC and check if it works in PC!
Regards
Carty..
Hello,
thank you for answering me.
As i wrote above, after formating the card with the PPC, its not readable with the pc, and the other way the same...
I think something with the partition table or sth like this is broken! i dont know why i cant get it work with both at the same time. As a mess, my linux does not support my cardreader so i cant perform any deeper analyse...
edit: i used Pocket Mechanic with various settings to format the card, low-level too... but nothing helps getting me recognize it with my windows-pc.

I have reloaded the stock RUU back onto my phone with no issues, but when I try to flash PC36IMG.zip I get stuck. I have downloaded the file several times using multiple browsers and have even downloaded it using my phone and placed it in the root of the sd card with the same result. Here is the log that is generated when trying to load the image:

There may have been more lines but the only way I could get this log was to try to snap a picture of it because it only shows for about a second. I have noticed that several people are having the same issue and thought it would be nice to have a thread started to find a solution or determine if we are doing something wrong. Attached is a screenshot of the error.
Update: Reformating the card fixed the issue!
Use a different micro sd card, re-download on the new card
I am not using the original 8GB card, I am using a 16GB card but good suggestion I will try that. I hope it is that simple.
Format your SD card to FAT32
It is currently using FAT32 already but I am going to try a reformat and see what happens, will post results soon.
It's the card. I had the exact same problem using a 1gb card and ended up having to use the card from my Droid. I'm not sure why it happens though, I thought it was because hboot needed a sdhc card but your using one so I dunno.
Thanks a lot a reformat of the SD card did the trick! I have been trying everything and that worked!!! Im happy now
I had this problem too. I tried re-downloading the file, formatting the card in my Evo, formatting it with the sd card formatting app in Windows. Nothing fixed it. I FINALLY booted my netbook into Ubuntu (Linux) and formatted from Gparted (FAT32). That did it. So, if you have a Linux box available, try that. Or a live Linux CD/DVD would work too.
Same problem i formatted my card and it still doesnt work for me any advise?

If you have access to a different MicroSD card I would try that, I can confirm that it is definitely a problem with the card though. One other suggestion is using Linux disk management program I heard one person say windows could not format it properly then used Linux and the card worked fine afterwards.
thanks jdickerman ill give it a try and post results soon
nope tried everything formatting the card and i got a new 4gb sd card and still the same problem
I had this same problem.
With Windows 7 machine, I formatted the stock 8GB microSD with Fat32(default) with 4096bytes. I used a "quick format" and then a copy and paste to move the PC63IMG.zip file to the card.
This worked for me.

I am having the same problem - I've tried formatting using windows and now linux and still get the same results.
No image and No image or wrong image.
I also get a message saying - update failed Main version is older!
no matter what I've tried the results are always the same. Suggestions?
I - sort of - have the same problem.
When it hits "PC36DIAG.zip" it says "No image!"
when it gets to "PC36IMG.zip" though - it starts updating Boot/Bootloader/MICROP/etc etc
Am I missing something from the PC36DIAG.zip? Phone works fine...
Make sure the .zip is not corrupt by trying to extract it on your PC first.
I had this same error and noticed the file was corrupt when I tried to extract in on my notebook. I re-downloaded the file, copied it to the SD and all is well.
Remove the .zip on the file name. I had the same problem because I named the file PC36IMG.zip it already is a zip file so just name it PC36IMG. This worked for me. Goodluck!
will this get rid of these messages and still keep root??
i need to return my phone for i have the light leakage, and it is getting worse.
same problem
I am at my wits end. I have tried everything that has been suggested in this thread. When I try to update the radio in my HTC incredible, I get the message "no image or wrong image". It is weird because when the bootloader reaches the "ZIP" stage, it looks like it installs the software. I see a status bar on the right side of the screen. But then when I reboot, I have the same version of the radio.
I have reformatted the SD card twice now (both times using different FAT32 options). I have verified that the MD5 signature of the ZIP file is correct. I have made sure that I download the file directly to the phone and not copy it over the USB cable. Nothing works. I always have the same result.
This is really bothering me, because when I update to one of the modified ROMs, everything except my GPS functionality works. According to another thread, my problem is that I am using version 1.00xxx of the radio software. But nothing I do allows me to install the update.
The only thing I have not tried is reformatting using Linux. But I have very little confidence that will work, and given the amount of work it would take to install Linux...I am hoping there is another option. Other people in this forum seem to have been successful reformatting the SD card using windows.
Thanks for any pointers!

hey peeps
just bought a 32gb sd card for my hero and began transferring files.
the idiot that i am i accidently disconnected thinking it had finished transferring and the sd card became unreadable
i reformatted it in windows 7 disk management and it only shows as a 8mb partition.
i tried deleting the partition but it wont let me. i have also tried windows xp disk management and also partition manager pro but it freezes and crashes
i loaded the windows xp setup disk and managed to delete the partition but still shows as a 8mb disk
im ripping my hair out as it was such a stupid mistake
any ideas on how to fix this would be greatly apreciated
thanks
sy
Will it let you resize the 8mb partition?
Sadly not. In the windows xp setup it shows as a 8mb device even though I managed to delete the partition
Sent from my Hero using XDA App
Oh ive also tried formatting it using the clockworkmod recovery. Its unable to mount the card

Why not use adb ?
See the following link for more help :
http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/how-to-manually-partition-your-sd-card-for-android-apps2sd/
Use the following code in recovery mode to inform you on any parts that mite all ready be on the card,
Code:
adb shell
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0
print

DL a program called GParted, boot into it and do some low-level formatting. That should do the trick.

I'd say gparted or any other low level formatting tool would work nicely.
Nope. Gparted wouldn't even see it. I ended up getting a refund from eBay. Oh well.
sounds like a problem i had when i formatted my pen drive with my mac. It would show on windows as a 16 mb partition. I dont know if this will help but try this and see if its the same issue. http://pitumbo.com/how-delete-gpt-partition-or-efi-mac-hard-disks-vista-or-xp
probleem resolve
for me was the same problem i just downloaded this program ( SD Formatter v2 0 0 3 ) and resolved the problem.
Soryy for mi poor English.
Does Amon RA recovery partition work with it?
easiest way is that you should go in the recovery mod and partition ur sd card gives swap and EXt values 0 and start partition your actual size of Sd card will come back again cheeerssssss
I am currently running CM7 on a 16gb microSD card and recently bought a 32gb card.
What is the best way to move the install to the new card without doing everything from scratch?
I assume it is possible to write an image of the 16gb card, write that image file to the 32gb card and then extend the last partition to use up the remaining free space but how would I do that exactly?
I tried to create the image using Win32DiskImager but the app froze (maybe because I was using Windows7 64bit OS?).

Its not just windows, cuz i have the same setup. You might try a different version of win32DiskImager, and make sure every windows explorer window is closed.
Also ive heard that it becomes less stable (is that the right word???) What happens is that the random read/write speeds become kinda wonky... but its worth a try
I hope this helps
I have been using USB Image Tool to clone my microSD cards.
http://www.alexpage.de/usb-image-tool/
It seems to be more stable than Win32DiskImager.
In order to grow the 16GB partition to fill the new 32GB card I would use Gparted or Parted Magic.
If you have the capability to load 2 sd cards (since my bult in only accepts one card at a time, I use a USB card reader for the second card) I recommend using easus todo bacup software (free) and just copy from one card to the other.
The advantage to this is that you never run into image sizeing problems and you can extend the extra space to full size right in this application.
Hope this helps.
thanks for that...

I've just been searching for a good way to clone for backup, and had found that tool (tab to that page open as I write). So thanks for the confirmation that that tool works. I'll give it a shot.
Win32DiskImager doesn't want to work at all - it reads and writes the image up to a max of 4gb. It says it is still reading and writing, but the image file never goes beyond 4gb. (and no, my file system is not fat32 - it is NTFS).
For backup purposes, it would be nice to have a way of making an img file that is compacted, instead of the full size of the card.
Any ideas?

That utility is only seeing the fat32 boot partition
how do I backup/restore all partitions?
note: I can only see the boot partition in Windows but I can see all partitions using Ubuntu

you need version 0.1 of win32diskmanager..its only version that i could get to work to restore images. I also used it to make a image of my data partition. Hooked up nook to system used nook color tools USB connection wizard. had both boot partition and data partition visible in win7. Then I made an image o the data partition. Not sure if this is best way to do it but it worked.

That was a bit of work...
I did use the USB image tool to clone the drive...
...I did have to close windows explorer to write the data to the new drive (unable to access errors)
Once I wrote the image, I attempted to resize it.
Windows wouldn't do it with native apps or a free partition editor...
Gparted wouldn't do it because the file name "CM7 SDCARD" has a space that gives linux a headache.
So I had to load it up on the windows machine to remove the space from the label...it still wouldn't resize the partition, so back to Ubuntu and Gparted.
That time it worked, and then still in Gparted I made the name CM7 SDCARD again.
Nook is happy, I am happy.

Linux rocks...I wish Windows would just go away.
Hi,
I'm trying to create a bootable SD card with CM7 for my nook color. My intent is to have a dual boot option. I followed instructions from one the threads here and tried to perform the first step of loading the bootable image in the sd card. But I'm facing an issue using Win32DiskImager. The moment I select the image and try to load, it throws an exception "file is currently in use...". After googling around, it looks like the issue is due to the fact that I'm running a 64 bit windows version.
Just wondering if there's any workaround to this issue. Unfortunately, this is the only pc I've currently, so I've to make it work on a 64 bit.
Any pointer will be high;y appreciated.
- Thanks
Use WinImage. I couldn't get Win32... working either.

Thanks for ur reply Taosaur. I tried the 64 bit version of Winimage earlier. But I got the following exception : Error in writing disk Disk 1, error 5 : Access is Denied.
Not sure what's causing it. Have you seen this by any chance?
Use the old version r0.15 of Win32DiskImager.
I have no problem creating bootable or flashable uSD running W7 64-bit OS
I have no issues writing the image to the SD card with the newest version of this program on five different PCs running Win7 x64.
Sorry, can't be more help than just to say that I've successfully used win32diskimager too on Win7 x64 (win32diskimager-RELEASE-0.2-r23-win32 to be exact).
I think I got the "in use" error from Win32DiskImager on Win7 64 bit but I just hit ok because it was talking about my a:\ drive, not my flash drive. I was then able to select my flash drive from the list and use it normally.
It may be your card-reader, too; many people have reported problems writing images to uSD in one of those all-in-one cardreaders found on many laptops, and had to get a USB uSDHC drive.
Thanks for the suggestion guys....well,here's what I figured so far.
The sd card seemed to be showing only 115 mb in Windows instead of 4gb. Not sure it was causing the issue. I used Mini partition tool to wipe out the partition, then create a new partition and format it.After that, I was able to see 4 gb as sd card capacity.
Now,I tried WinImage32 to burn the image. It progressed to around 20%, threw exception and close the process. I was not sure whether it was able to complete, but my guess is probably not. Now, when I looked into the sd card, I noticed couple of things. First, the sd card size is back to 115 mb and secondly, there are boot image files and directory.
Since,I'm not able to post a snapshot of the files, I'm trying to quote them here.
MLO --> 15 kb
u-boot --> 282 kb
uImage --> 2,692 kb
uRamdisk --> 5,108 kb
As suggested by votinh, I'll try the older version of WinImage. As far as reader is concerned, I tried couple of different sd readers. But both threw the same exception.
A single 100ish MB partition is what Windows (but not EASEUS) should be seeing after the image is written. Windows will only see the first partition of a uSD: in this case, /boot.
It sounds like the image wrote with at least partial success. You could drop a CM7 install file on there and give it a try in the NC--maybe Windows is making noise for no reason.
@Taosaur .... tried version r0.15 of Win32DiskImager as per your suggestion, it worked like a charm. I was able to write the image and copy the CM7 version as well. I'm going to try it out on NC now, thanks a lot for your help. Appreciate it.
