I have reloaded the stock RUU back onto my phone with no issues, but when I try to flash PC36IMG.zip I get stuck. I have downloaded the file several times using multiple browsers and have even downloaded it using my phone and placed it in the root of the sd card with the same result. Here is the log that is generated when trying to load the image:

There may have been more lines but the only way I could get this log was to try to snap a picture of it because it only shows for about a second. I have noticed that several people are having the same issue and thought it would be nice to have a thread started to find a solution or determine if we are doing something wrong. Attached is a screenshot of the error.
Update: Reformating the card fixed the issue!
Use a different micro sd card, re-download on the new card
I am not using the original 8GB card, I am using a 16GB card but good suggestion I will try that. I hope it is that simple.
Format your SD card to FAT32
It is currently using FAT32 already but I am going to try a reformat and see what happens, will post results soon.
It's the card. I had the exact same problem using a 1gb card and ended up having to use the card from my Droid. I'm not sure why it happens though, I thought it was because hboot needed a sdhc card but your using one so I dunno.
Thanks a lot a reformat of the SD card did the trick! I have been trying everything and that worked!!! Im happy now
I had this problem too. I tried re-downloading the file, formatting the card in my Evo, formatting it with the sd card formatting app in Windows. Nothing fixed it. I FINALLY booted my netbook into Ubuntu (Linux) and formatted from Gparted (FAT32). That did it. So, if you have a Linux box available, try that. Or a live Linux CD/DVD would work too.
Same problem i formatted my card and it still doesnt work for me any advise?

If you have access to a different MicroSD card I would try that, I can confirm that it is definitely a problem with the card though. One other suggestion is using Linux disk management program I heard one person say windows could not format it properly then used Linux and the card worked fine afterwards.
thanks jdickerman ill give it a try and post results soon
nope tried everything formatting the card and i got a new 4gb sd card and still the same problem
I had this same problem.
With Windows 7 machine, I formatted the stock 8GB microSD with Fat32(default) with 4096bytes. I used a "quick format" and then a copy and paste to move the PC63IMG.zip file to the card.
This worked for me.
-Sam
I am having the same problem - I've tried formatting using windows and now linux and still get the same results.
No image and No image or wrong image.
I also get a message saying - update failed Main version is older!
no matter what I've tried the results are always the same. Suggestions?
I - sort of - have the same problem.
When it hits "PC36DIAG.zip" it says "No image!"
when it gets to "PC36IMG.zip" though - it starts updating Boot/Bootloader/MICROP/etc etc
Am I missing something from the PC36DIAG.zip? Phone works fine...
Make sure the .zip is not corrupt by trying to extract it on your PC first.
I had this same error and noticed the file was corrupt when I tried to extract in on my notebook. I re-downloaded the file, copied it to the SD and all is well.
Remove the .zip on the file name. I had the same problem because I named the file PC36IMG.zip it already is a zip file so just name it PC36IMG. This worked for me. Goodluck!
will this get rid of these messages and still keep root??
i need to return my phone for i have the light leakage, and it is getting worse.
same problem
I am at my wits end. I have tried everything that has been suggested in this thread. When I try to update the radio in my HTC incredible, I get the message "no image or wrong image". It is weird because when the bootloader reaches the "ZIP" stage, it looks like it installs the software. I see a status bar on the right side of the screen. But then when I reboot, I have the same version of the radio.
I have reformatted the SD card twice now (both times using different FAT32 options). I have verified that the MD5 signature of the ZIP file is correct. I have made sure that I download the file directly to the phone and not copy it over the USB cable. Nothing works. I always have the same result.
This is really bothering me, because when I update to one of the modified ROMs, everything except my GPS functionality works. According to another thread, my problem is that I am using version 1.00xxx of the radio software. But nothing I do allows me to install the update.
The only thing I have not tried is reformatting using Linux. But I have very little confidence that will work, and given the amount of work it would take to install Linux...I am hoping there is another option. Other people in this forum seem to have been successful reformatting the SD card using windows.
Thanks for any pointers!

I have this problem as well, and it's inconsistent, one moment it could detect the right product (which ends up with the latest ROM) the next moment I check it couldn't recognise.
I ended up using sd card to flash.
i try with sd card to, but no luck...thanks
Try reformatting your SD card... Happened the same to me at one point.
Reformatted the SD card, put the image on it...and it worked like a charm
yup, make sure you format ur sd card as fat32 not fat. i had the same problem but after formatting it as fat32 everything went smoothly.
I have the same problem since yesterday, here's hoping they are putting up the UK version of R3AA
Thanks to all, i try with formatted sd card with fat32, but same story again, no image file... what rom did you put with sd card? i tried X1_STOCK_SPL_072 and APP-SW_X1_GENERIC_UK_1213-6450_R3AA010__Kovisimg.nbh, nothing...
The ROM file name has to be kovsimg.nbh
Did u have it like that? If you didn't you probably formatted your SD card for nothing
yes, i rename it, like it was in directions explained..
i made it, thanks to all!!!
i have the same problem: tried to update from SE site but failed the update. now, all i have is colored-striped screen and my pc can't detect my xperia at all (both in vista and xp).

Try to flash your phone with stock rom using SDcard method
I've been using android on my phone for awhile, and tried a bunch of different builds and never got this error. Yesterday when i was switching back to shubcraft all of the sudden the boot loader gives me
mounting /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 on /sdcard failed: invalid argument
failed
failed to mount sd card. cannot continue.
/bin/sh: cant't access tty; job control turned off
i tried loading just about ever build and get the same thing.
I've changed the startup.txt and i always reformat before i switch builds. i was thinking it might be the sd card itself, but it works fine in winmo.
if anyone can help me it would be much appreciated, im having android withdrawls...
oh and its the stock 16gb class 2
EDIT: It randomly started working again...strange...
This Is What I Do
I was getting either the same thing or something very close to it on about 2 rom to the best of my understanding is when your trying to flash (for lack of better words) a new rom you still have some left over traces either on your storage card or the phone so what you need to do is format your SD card and reflash your phones rom.
I took the origin file put it on my sd card unzipped it there went into the android rom folder cut the plain android folder paste it withe the other folders then reased every folder EXCEPT the PLAIN ANDROID FOLDER now put the sd card in the phone enable the the sound then install android.
To be able to watch the process after you flash your rom go to settings, system, power (battery) and uncheck everything so it doesn't sleep. when you install now you will see the progress and will be able to read the progress if you see 2 things have failed
This is my process and it hasn't failed yet when I didn't do it this way I had fails.

okay this is now happening to me as well!
had been using Android and various different builds without hitch.
but today after trying the Hyperdroid build the sd card fails to mount on startup.
Editing the startup.txt does nothing, have also flash to the latest chuckyrom and formatted the sd card time and time again and tried different builds.
anyone have any other suggestions?
Ta
working again now.
the fix for me was to reupload my backup to the sd, format then upload the required new build.

odd indeed...for me i had to reformat my sd card using my phone, didnt really make any sense to me but it worked
After trying to do a root, following all the instructions on this site to a T, my phone booted up and presented me with a "SD card damaged, you may have to reformat" message.
I can click on it and hit reformat, but nothing happens.
I've tried doing the Odin recovery back to the stock /system, but that didn't seem to do anything. I've also booted into android recovery mode and tried wiping the cache partition, as well as doing factory reset.
HELP PLEASE!!!
UPDATE: the SD card is recognized when plugged into my computer via microSD adapter. Re-formatting on computer to the standard FAT32. will let you know how that goes, but still open to suggestions on assumption of failure.
Update 2: format failed. Popped it back into phone to try a last-ditch attempt at SOMETHING working.
It's still giving me an error message, though it's a different one;
Blank External SD card
SD card blank or has unsupported file system
Tried to format it on my phone, and it does nothing yet again.
how to proceed?

My Wildfire has now killed 4 SD cards. I think there is something seriously wrong with this phone.
This EXACT thing happened to my SD card, and while rooting, EXACTLY according to instructions.
I wound up just opening the automated Root batch file
and running the commands and pushing the files without the stupid automatic thing.
Something about the SD card mounting to the computer, and the computer rebooting while hanging onto a file for read/write.
I took it to Verizon and they replaced my SD card. It was even rooted, with Wireless Tether right on the home screen, LOL. Oh well.
Don't feel bad. The Samsung cards that came with the device are crap. Mine crapped out on day 2.
Call customer service and have them replace it.There's nothing you can do to fix it. Trust me, I tried...
Sorry if this is long but Ive spent the last two days reading posts trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Ive found similar problems but nothing right on. Ive tried installing CM10 on a Nook Color and everything has been a problem. It started when I tried putting the files on my SD card. I downloaded the 3 files (img,cm,jb) and followed the instructions to load them to my class 4 San disc 4Gb micro SD. I unzipped the image file and using Win32 placed them on the card.(using an new external card reader) This is where it started.
I didn't know if I was supposed to use Win32 to load the other 2 zipped files so I tried it. It said they loaded but it wouldn't boot in the nook. I tried it again and when ever I would try to see if the files where there I got a "disc is not formatted would you like to format" message. I used SDFormatter to format the disc and tried to just copy the remaining 2 files to the disc. Now I was getting a " cannot write disc is full" message. When I finally thought all 3 files were on the card I tried it in the Nook and this time it booted and seemed to go well but then it stopped. It was saying It couldn't locate an img file, and I should download it from a place I couldn't find. I reloaded the img file and placed it in the nook and it said something about not recognizing the card or something like that. Ive tried everything and nothing would work. I then found I couldn't even shut down the nook. It ended up running out of power, and that is where my second problem began. It now says "Battery to low to power on every time I try to power up. Ive tried the stock power cord and the one to my phone. Used strait power and USB. from my PC. It is charged, it just doesn't seem to know it. I'm frustrated and sick of the whole ordeal. Please tell me what I did wrong and if I can fix it.
You only unzip the image zip and burn it to the card. The other two get copied without unzipping. And what version of the image zip are you using? It needs to be rev5 from my updated NC installation instructions linked in my signature. If the message said to go to an .ru site, it is an old version.
And you just use Windows Explorer to copy the other two files to the card.
If you use SDFormatter, be sure to do a full format, not just quick. And only do that before you burn the image and copy the files.
The battery must charge for a good 15 minutes with the stock cable and charging block before it can power up.

Thanks for getting back to me so soon, I understand I need to be a little more specific.
I don't know if it matters but I'm using windows XP sp3.
Starting with the SD card, I did use the latest SDFormater to do a full erase and format each time.
I finally did use win32 for just the image file, But every time I would get a "not enough room on disk message" when copying the other 2 zipped files to the card. (using windows explorer) I tried it 3 or 4 times.
The Nook has been charging of and on for 2 days and I still get the message. As I said Ive tried using the charger that came with the nook and another one that fit. Ive plugged it into my wall socket and my USB ports.
I should also mention that I'm working with 2 Nook colors and have had the same result on both, except one of them is now working. I don't know what I did or why but it all of a sudden booted normally and I did an immediate reset.
I hope this helps you understand my confusion. I couldn't find any posts with the exact same problem.

You still did not confirm you were using my rev5 image. Using an earlier version of the image would give those not enough room errors.
If you were having the same charging problem, how did you get one to work?

Sorry,
Good news, My other Nook has finally started up. I tried a travel charger I had bought and after 10 min it just started up.
As tp your question, I tried a couple of different img files while I was trying just to get all the files loaded on the SD, One was generic 1.3, and the other I believe was labeled ramdisc?
Please help me understand why I cant seem to load all 3 files to my SD card. That is where it all started and I haven't been able to figure out why. As i said I am using a 4 Gb micro SD card. It loads the img file but then I cant load the other 2 after. I get the not enough space on disc message.
Thank you
Got it. The problem was the way I was copying the zip files to the SD card.. Once I did the copy and paste it worked fine.
tl;dr
The card is tested and good (results below), the card reader is good (tested by reinstalling 5.7.4).
So few other people are having this issue, what is going on with my phone?
--
I've read and read, but no matter what I try, I can't get my SD card to work.
Here's the details of how, and what, I installed on my Sprint S5.
I'm coming from Resurrection Remix 5.7.4 MM, (where the SD card worked fine, but did have a few issues with the camera (used open camera instead) and some post reboot oddness (shortcuts disappearing)).
I first formatted card using the windows software sdformatter to FAT32
copied files to SD card using a card reader plugged into PC.
Files copied
RR-N-v5.8.2-20170304-kltespr-Official.zip
open_gapps-arm-7.1-micro-20170327.zip
UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.79-20161211114519.zip
TWRP 3.X
wiped dalvik/cache/system/data
then factory reset
added files to zip queue, Rom, then Gapps, then SU
Flashed
Phone boots fine, initial set up completes.
Tried a reinstall of apps using Ti Pro, but it failed, so started again and used google apps restore during boot. Issues with many apps. So started again, with a "fresh start" option during set up.
I took a few pictures.
I can view them immediately after taking, by pressing the previously taken image image inside the camera app.
Open default Gallery and get the error "No storage. No external storage available."
I installed a+ gallery and it is able to open the images just fine.
Default Files app can browse the SD card.
Aldiko will not download books, as it thinks there is no SD card installed
I've tried (and checking each time)
formatting in card as internal, then back to portable in phone.
Clearing the data/cache for the apps giving errors.
factory resetting
Wiping and formatting the card (on PC to FAT32), and starting again (several times).
Started from scratch again, with a brand new Sandisk card
Tried ZepherOS Zephyr-N Version (Viserion-6.1) Android 7.0
Wiping cache/dalvik only and rebooting
Same "No storage..." error, every time.
I tried ZephrOS. Right after install there is no file manager, but if I click the default app "downloads", I can navigate to the camera folder, then to the image. When I click on it, it opens the image, but still shows the same error "no storage..." even though I'm looking at the image behind the error window. :/
I'm running H2testw, but don't expect an issue, as the same error was on the previous card and the brand new card.
Can I go from 7.0/7.1 to a stock ROM without issues, if so which one?
Update:
SD card test result
Test finished without errors.
You can now delete the test files *.h2w or verify them again.
Writing speed: 7.15 MByte/s
Reading speed: 15.7 MByte/s
H2testw v1.4
UPDATE #2:
I started fresh with a new install of RR 5.7.4 and the card does still have issues with some apps, but is working fine with others. Open camera works fine, and the gallery access the correct card in this ROM. Aldiko still fails as it's trying to download to /sdcard
Most apps are looking for /sdcard but I have /sdcard1
If it helps, it appears sdcard is symlinking to /storage/self/primary
Anyone able to help?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, settings>apps>settings>App permissions>Storage is turned on.
Aldiko, for example, is looking for /sdcard but it doesn't exist. I'm thinking a symlink might fix the issue? But am not familiar enough with Android under the hood, to know what other issues that might cause.

FAT32 this was recommend in most places I read. I thinks it's a paths issue. I'm not sure the format would make a difference to that, right?

A fresh install would resolve any path issues. The device can't read the card, which means that it's formatted incorrectly or is incompatible. How did you format it originally? On a computer? Go into the storage menu, and if it's detected, then try using the native Android option to reformat it. Back up your stuff first.
If that fails, try formatting it in recovery.

Thanks, I know the OP was long, but I hoped the details of what I'd already tried would be appreciated. I did several fresh installs trying to fix, and formatted every which way I could in phone and on a PC. Nothing has worked.
I've kind of given up on this and have decided to switch to Verizon. Sprint sucks so bad, after 10 years I've finally had enough, so I have to replace the phone anyway.
If you know of a decent phone to get, I'm looking for a recommendation in this thread, https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/switching-to-verizon-200-phone-t3588790
Thanks for your attention to my issue. Sorry it's left unresolved. I run my own business and just can't spend this much time fixing my phone.
