[Q] HELP!!! SD card damaged error message - Fascinate General

After trying to do a root, following all the instructions on this site to a T, my phone booted up and presented me with a "SD card damaged, you may have to reformat" message.
I can click on it and hit reformat, but nothing happens.
I've tried doing the Odin recovery back to the stock /system, but that didn't seem to do anything. I've also booted into android recovery mode and tried wiping the cache partition, as well as doing factory reset.
HELP PLEASE!!!

UPDATE: the SD card is recognized when plugged into my computer via microSD adapter. Re-formatting on computer to the standard FAT32. will let you know how that goes, but still open to suggestions on assumption of failure.

Update 2: format failed. Popped it back into phone to try a last-ditch attempt at SOMETHING working.
It's still giving me an error message, though it's a different one;
Blank External SD card
SD card blank or has unsupported file system
Tried to format it on my phone, and it does nothing yet again.
how to proceed?

I have the same problem and did the same thing with my computer I think the sd is no longer good. I am using my sd card from my droid now and I now have a dead card too.

My Wildfire has now killed 4 SD cards. I think there is something seriously wrong with this phone.

This EXACT thing happened to my SD card, and while rooting, EXACTLY according to instructions.
I wound up just opening the automated Root batch file
and running the commands and pushing the files without the stupid automatic thing.
Something about the SD card mounting to the computer, and the computer rebooting while hanging onto a file for read/write.
I took it to Verizon and they replaced my SD card. It was even rooted, with Wireless Tether right on the home screen, LOL. Oh well.

Don't feel bad. The Samsung cards that came with the device are crap. Mine crapped out on day 2.
Call customer service and have them replace it.There's nothing you can do to fix it. Trust me, I tried...

Sdcard Mount read only

hey guys, just got g2 this afternoon. i was swapping some files back and forth from computer to phone and i got an error in my taskbar.
""sdcard mounted readonly""
any1 else getting this? is says sdcard has a problem. tap here to...
i tap, it tries to reread sdcard, and error pops back up.
Sounds like you have an app on ur phone that is trying to read the sd card while its mounted to to pc

I've lost the SD card contents a half-dozen times. The dismount process is fragile, turning off the USB storage on the phone before unmounting on the computer seems to leave the SD card in the "unmounted" state. Recovery has meant pulling the card from the phone, sticking it in an adapter, then formatting on a PC.
Havikx,
I had a similar issue with my first g2. Ended up doing a repair on the sdcard in my laptop and that fixed it.
Hope this helps you out.

yes, i ended up formatting it in my g1 with amon ra. worked after that. it definatly has something to do with an app tryin to read the sd while mounted to pc.
This might not be the correct way to fix it but I had the same problem as you and I thought it'd be a try to stick the SD card into my Vibrant and long behold it worked just fine. Took it out and put it back in my G2 to find that the problem was gone.
Sd card error....
yeah... save yourself some time and just get another card...
i just got off the phone with tmobile who nicely passed the buck to htc.
my call to htc was short and sweet.." the g2 is so new that they do not have
any parts for wty replacement " ?????????????????????? wtf?????
anyway.. newegg here i come.

[Q] sd card read only

hey im a little new to droids. i have rooted my mytouch 4g and was installing iced glacier for the rom and it was successful. but now get an error message saying sd card read only. any ideas o how to fix?
Can you still access the sdcard rw through recovery?
BTW, make sure you post questions in the q&a section. I'm sure when a mod sees this they will tell you the same and move the thread.
My MyGlacier 4G MINE!!!
Had same issue, card probably had a sector corrupt. Plug into pc and right click select check card for errors and fix. It will say it found and fixed errors, you will be good after that. Thats what I get when I buy a 8gb class 6 card for $7.99
Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk
i had to pull everything off of it onto my computer then reformat the sd card then put everything back on it. i guess i had a corrupt file on it
I was in the process of pulling, reformatting, etc. But, as Johnowa stated, the option to "scan and fix", which I usually ignore, popped up, I thought, "Why not?", and it actually fixed the problem. As was mentioned, it was likely a bad sector. Hope this helps.
As the others have said, see if you can "scan and fix" or pull everything off it and reformat it. BTW, its Android. Droid is Verizons line of Android phones.

I would add one thing here.
Make sure you copy everything off the card BEFORE you "scan and fix" I had done that before without loosing anything. This time (on a 16 GB card I had used in another device previously), after it did the scan and fix, it generated a very long list of bad sectors, etc. and the result was an effective loss of most of the contents.
After the "fix", I reformatted and copied everything back without a problem.
Also... is this when its plugged in? I have noticed that mine likes to go into DISK MODE everytime I plug in the USB to charge. After I chnaged that in settings, I found my cable is slightly bad because if it moves the wrong direction, it pops it into disk mode again.
my apologies for posting in the wrong section i wont let it happen again. so ive tried pluging the phone into the pc to clear or format and my pc wont recognize it tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it and tried removing it ftom the phone and putting it in a reader directly into pc and still nothing. most likley i will go buy another today. i can access format sd card from clockwork mod but it stood idle for about 10 minutes saying formatting sd card is that normal i just removed the battery and stopped it

[Q] Frustrating SD Card issue - not the normal

Note - this is not the "Damaged SD card Issue" i never received ths warning.
Up until last night, my New S4 was running great with my Samsung 64gb sd card...had a ton of programs etc. The thing is, the card was also encrypted by company security policy. Prior to flashing to a new rom i tried to decrypt the card, the the system credientials were locked and wouldn't let me (after removing accounts etc). I don't want to talk about ways i could have decrypted - let's just say i went into the flash with an encrypted card.
Wiped cache, delvik cache, and factory reset
now i don't believe this cleans the internal (SD or storage) as this is where i flashed from
Everything flashed successfully and the new rom is up and running.
Except now i can't access my SD card on my Galaxy. Mounting only results in the device saying "it's safe for removal". I can't even format on this device, but i can on a galaxy s3 and my laptop. And the card works in all those places just fine. The card won't even mount in CWM....EVERY time I insert the card, I'm just told the card being checked for errors and immediately goes to "card is safe for removal"
anyone know what might be going on? This is driving me nuts here!
Just tried reflashing again, this time clearing internal memory too...installing rom from a diffetent external SD card and still no luck. Same result as above.
Again SD card works in all other devices other than s4.
Also note I am using a T MO rom on att device with new kernal. I don't think that should matter though

Had this issue. I used my 64gb card with the stock rom. I flashed CM10.1 this morning onto it and CM10.1 wouldn't read it. Took it out, put it in a SD card adapter and read it on my laptop, copied all contents off. Put it back in my S4, formatted it. It worked. Put card back in laptop, copied content over, worked fine on the S4.
It's a formatting issue. Just back up your data via another device, then format the card in your S4 and youll be fine.
Problem is I can't get s4 to the point where it will format the card. After I attempt to mount it...keeps reverting back to ready to remove message...as if it doesn't want to know the card is there.

Well. Try formatting it in another system. Take it out copy your files off, then format it. (Windows My Computer, right click the flash card, Format). Mac, Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility Select the flash drive, go to erase. Linux, use Gparted. Install via sudo apt-get install gparted if your on a ubuntu/debian based distro.. Then try it in your S4 and see what happens. Maybe the partition got messed up and the S4 is goofing up when it goes to read it, or check partition table or something in a way where other systems might be okay with it still.

Thanks for the input. I did try as you recommended. Even going so far as to format in a galaxy s3- successfully ....a digital camera - successfully ...and my computer systems successfully....all able to read write and format.....galaxy s4 just doesn't seem to care....

Interesting. Well eliminated anything with the card itself or formating.
Have you tried any other microSD's in your S4?
If not I suggest trying that and see what's going on.
If it DOES work then it might be a issue with the card. If it doesn't, something with your S4.
It's either hardware (the microSD card reader is bad somehow) or software (Something in your ROM is messed up). If you want to troubleshoot it to the fullest extent you can do a full factory restore, wiping your phone completely, and loading stock firmware again and wiping \Data partition, as well as cache and see what happens. That would eliminate any software issue.
I have tried other cards and they all work fine. S4 can do everything with these cards. Format...mount...unmount....etc...
Just seems to be this one card in this one device....both card and device work well outside of each other...

There's your problem then. That brand card or something, or that particular card may have something funny going on with it.
I had the same exact thing happen to me yesterday. I was also having issues with my WiFi not working either.
I ended up doing a complete wipe of my S4 in cwm, Odin to stock, updating my software via settings and re-rooting. After doing that my WiFi worked and it would read the 64GB SD card I had.
Luckily, I had a nandroid backup from just a few days prior I was able to revert back to.

Aokp/aosp/cm roms/kernels don't support the exfat format.. So format the SD card to FAT32 to fix the issue check this out.. Lots of threads on this.

Your 64gb sd card is Exfat and a lot of kernels and roms do not support this. Format it to Fat32 and all should be good. But backup everything on your sd card before you do it
don't know how far you have gotten on this, but
i usually use sdformatter from web. i do a "full erase on", takes awhile, but cleans card well and always solved any card issues i had--
Final Solution Atrix 4g to the rescue
Finally put the SD card in my old atrix 4G and reformatted twice and now the card works!
Can't for the life of me figure out why nothing else could format the car sufficiently.
I struggled with this as well just now with my SanDisk 64gb card on my Verizon s4 running Jelly Beans... Solution was to format the card fat32. I did this by executing this file from the command line and issuing 'fat32format x:' after mounting the card obviously. Here is the file fat32format.exe It works perfect now Note: Don't format the card again on your phone or it will end up exFat and the phone will reject the card again.

[Q] [Urgent] NST, when sdcard put inside for rooting, says "SD card unrecognised."

[Q] [Urgent] NST, when sdcard put inside for rooting, says "SD card unrecognised."
Hello everyone.
So I am trying to format my new Nook Simple Touch.
Software Version : 1.2.1
Model number : BNRV300
When I put the burn the .img file (NookManager) in the SD Card [8 GB, class unknown, but it is one of the best I could get, Kingston]
and put it in the Nook Simple Touch, It says "SD Card is unrecognised. Must format". After I format it, it puts a LOST.DIR(from what I remember) folder, and My Files folder and such, and the img file is removed.
If I switch off the Nook, and do the same process with the .img file burned, it doesn't load with the sd card and on startup gives up the same message.
The problem is not with the SD card, I checked with 2.
I really need help. Anyone?
Much Thanks
Another note..
I read that the Nook Simple Touch allows internet search through the search option.
But I tried with mine, and I do not know why, but it does not work.
I have tried with all of the terms but it never works, and the shop links keep popping up.
Anybody have any idea why?
PS: I tried all ways to type a url.
Thanks
Solved!
Hey guys
I got no replies, probably because nobody ever encountered such problem.
Anyhow, I solved this.
It was due to stupidity of mine.
I had this software called ISO2DISK and thought it could be used to burn img files in a flash disk.
It didn't work. xD
So, I thought the problem was with me using my mobile phone as the SD card reader. I am not sure if that was the problem.
So, I bought a new SD Card Reader (cost me just $1) and I used WinDisk this time.
And it worked!
I am now backing up my nook.
I hope this works...and I don't brick it
Perhaps they just disagreed with labelling the thread "urgent". Your nook wasn't bricked or anything.

Yeah
Yeah, I guess.
Sorry for that.
You'll also get this error if you only put your NST to sleep instead of powering it down then inserting the SD. Once it was powered down, I inserted the SD card and it booted up just fine.

[Q] SD Card blank or has unsupported filesystem

Hello guys,
I have a Galaxy S5 G900T running the AllianceRom 3.1 made for G900F. I use an external SD Card SanDisk 16GB and since yesterday I never had a problem.
So, now I'm experiencing this error: "SD Card blank or has unsupported filesystem" on Notification Panel. When I click on it, android asks me if I want to format the card, I click OK, and at the end the same problem occurs.
Things I already tried to do:
1) I tested the SD Card into another Galaxy S5 and it's running OK without the problem;
2) I formatted the SD card (full format) on a windows computer. Windows recognizes it, and it's running OK;
3) I checked the file vold.fstab on /etc folder and it has the same content as another Galaxy S5 that is running OK the SD card;
4) I re-flashed the AllianceRom 3.1;
[EDIT 1]
5) Tried to wipe the SD Card using TWRP Recovery (as image 1 attached)
6) Tried to partitioning using TWRP Recovery (as image 2 attached)
[EDIT 2]
7) I bought another SD Card, a Samsung 64GB and when I insert it on device I don't get this error, but also not able to mount, it doesn't even recognizes the SD card.
p.s. I searched a lot on XDA, even on Google, and those was the possible solutions I've found, but didn't work for me.
Does someone experienced this problem and was able to fix?
Does anyone knows another alternative that could work?
Thanks in advance

Have you tried another SD card in your phone? EDIT: Nevermind this bit
When you plug the SD card into your handset (do it while it's off) Does the SD Storage show anything?
You could try formatting it in another handset if you have the chance then try plugging it in.
Are you using stock Sammy firmware? Or have you installed a custom kernel? Could be one of those playing havoc with your device if so, back up and revert to stock if you can, retest the SD in there.
Test to see if you can retrieve data from the SD card, i've found that although SD cards show up in windows, when I attempt to copy data to the PC it fails, when I say fail I mean it stops progressing and doesn't copy, particular files appear corrupt.
You could also do a chkdsk /f /r via windows on the SD card, or even a general error check.
chances are one of these things will be the culprit, if none and it's still working in another phone and other cards are working in your device then i'm stumped.
Good luck
I would try philz recovery, i had all kinds of problems with twrp on my note 3 and s5 until switching. Not knocking twrp this is just my experience

I get the same problem: SD Card blank or has unsupported filesystem

I formatted my device right now and installed Samsung stock firmware with stock kernel. I also tried to get back to stock recovery, then installed CWM and TWRP, but the same problem
I'm starting to think this is a hardware problem, because I tried everything and nothing happened.

Quite an odd one that, i'm a little stumped.
did you try error checking on windows? OR even a format in a different handset? OR a different card in your phone to see if to see if it reads?
On the other hand if the phone isn't that old, return it, 28 day swap should be good if you're in time, otherwise it's back to sammy.
sorry I can't be of more help m8.

Have you found a solution to the OP?
I have an S5 too and it's doing exactly the same. I tried a 64GB Sandisk and Samsung cards, both work flawlessly in PC, MAC and even a different phone. WTH???? My 32GB Sandisk works well in the GAlaxy S5 too, I am about to see if it blends....

Same here. My phone already went in for repair for this and the front camera ring falling issue. Mine was preordered and shipped at launch. It worked a few weeks and now has stopped again. Simply won't recognize any SD cards. I tried an old 2GB, a Kingston 16GB, a Lexar 32GB from my GoPro, and a Sandisk 64GB. All cards work elsewhere, but my S5 never indicates anything is inserted. This is my first Samsung, and it might be my last. I never experienced issues like this on an HTC.
Any progress here? I just got a sweet 64g card Samsung because my others have worked well BUT...
S5 Blank SD card of death. ....
