any1 else getting this? is says sdcard has a problem. tap here to...
i tap, it tries to reread sdcard, and error pops back up.

Sounds like you have an app on ur phone that is trying to read the sd card while its mounted to to pc

I've lost the SD card contents a half-dozen times. The dismount process is fragile, turning off the USB storage on the phone before unmounting on the computer seems to leave the SD card in the "unmounted" state. Recovery has meant pulling the card from the phone, sticking it in an adapter, then formatting on a PC.

Havikx,
I had a similar issue with my first g2. Ended up doing a repair on the sdcard in my laptop and that fixed it.
Hope this helps you out.

yes, i ended up formatting it in my g1 with amon ra. worked after that. it definatly has something to do with an app tryin to read the sd while mounted to pc.

This might not be the correct way to fix it but I had the same problem as you and I thought it'd be a try to stick the SD card into my Vibrant and long behold it worked just fine. Took it out and put it back in my G2 to find that the problem was gone.

Sd card error....
yeah... save yourself some time and just get another card...
i just got off the phone with tmobile who nicely passed the buck to htc.
my call to htc was short and sweet.." the g2 is so new that they do not have
any parts for wty replacement " ?????????????????????? wtf?????
anyway.. newegg here i come.

[Q] HELP!!! SD card damaged error message

After trying to do a root, following all the instructions on this site to a T, my phone booted up and presented me with a "SD card damaged, you may have to reformat" message.
I can click on it and hit reformat, but nothing happens.
I've tried doing the Odin recovery back to the stock /system, but that didn't seem to do anything. I've also booted into android recovery mode and tried wiping the cache partition, as well as doing factory reset.
HELP PLEASE!!!
UPDATE: the SD card is recognized when plugged into my computer via microSD adapter. Re-formatting on computer to the standard FAT32. will let you know how that goes, but still open to suggestions on assumption of failure.
Update 2: format failed. Popped it back into phone to try a last-ditch attempt at SOMETHING working.
It's still giving me an error message, though it's a different one;
Blank External SD card
SD card blank or has unsupported file system
Tried to format it on my phone, and it does nothing yet again.
how to proceed?

I have the same problem and did the same thing with my computer I think the sd is no longer good. I am using my sd card from my droid now and I now have a dead card too.

My Wildfire has now killed 4 SD cards. I think there is something seriously wrong with this phone.
This EXACT thing happened to my SD card, and while rooting, EXACTLY according to instructions.
I wound up just opening the automated Root batch file
and running the commands and pushing the files without the stupid automatic thing.
Something about the SD card mounting to the computer, and the computer rebooting while hanging onto a file for read/write.
I took it to Verizon and they replaced my SD card. It was even rooted, with Wireless Tether right on the home screen, LOL. Oh well.
Don't feel bad. The Samsung cards that came with the device are crap. Mine crapped out on day 2.
Call customer service and have them replace it.There's nothing you can do to fix it. Trust me, I tried...

[Q] sd card read only

hey im a little new to droids. i have rooted my mytouch 4g and was installing iced glacier for the rom and it was successful. but now get an error message saying sd card read only. any ideas o how to fix?
Can you still access the sdcard rw through recovery?
BTW, make sure you post questions in the q&a section. I'm sure when a mod sees this they will tell you the same and move the thread.
My MyGlacier 4G MINE!!!
Had same issue, card probably had a sector corrupt. Plug into pc and right click select check card for errors and fix. It will say it found and fixed errors, you will be good after that. Thats what I get when I buy a 8gb class 6 card for $7.99

i had to pull everything off of it onto my computer then reformat the sd card then put everything back on it. i guess i had a corrupt file on it
I was in the process of pulling, reformatting, etc. But, as Johnowa stated, the option to "scan and fix", which I usually ignore, popped up, I thought, "Why not?", and it actually fixed the problem. As was mentioned, it was likely a bad sector. Hope this helps.
As the others have said, see if you can "scan and fix" or pull everything off it and reformat it. BTW, its Android. Droid is Verizons line of Android phones.

I would add one thing here.
Make sure you copy everything off the card BEFORE you "scan and fix" I had done that before without loosing anything. This time (on a 16 GB card I had used in another device previously), after it did the scan and fix, it generated a very long list of bad sectors, etc. and the result was an effective loss of most of the contents.
After the "fix", I reformatted and copied everything back without a problem.
Also... is this when its plugged in? I have noticed that mine likes to go into DISK MODE everytime I plug in the USB to charge. After I chnaged that in settings, I found my cable is slightly bad because if it moves the wrong direction, it pops it into disk mode again.
my apologies for posting in the wrong section i wont let it happen again. so ive tried pluging the phone into the pc to clear or format and my pc wont recognize it tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it and tried removing it ftom the phone and putting it in a reader directly into pc and still nothing. most likley i will go buy another today. i can access format sd card from clockwork mod but it stood idle for about 10 minutes saying formatting sd card is that normal i just removed the battery and stopped it

Ugh... Sd card issues.. Not my day (rant)

So I dropped my phone today (doh!) And the battery and evrything came out.. put it back in andwent about my day no worries... so I look in rom manager and see there's a new recovery and when I try to download it says my sd isn't mounted so I take the battery out and lo and behold my sd card came out too (double doh!) Went back to my job searched for my sd card to no avail... But its ok I thought I have one from my old blackbery at home (finally I get a break)... put it in... works fine... but it has pictures and videos that i'd rather not remember (or let my fiancee see lol) as well as the blackberry data which I know I don't need so I pick out the few things I want off the card and save them to a new folder on the phones root via root explorer... then I. Go to sd card settings and format it.. it finishes then a nice little error pops up saying "blank sd card or unsupported file system" (DOH! DOH! DOH!)... But we ain't done yet the stoory goes on... I decide maybe a reboot will fix it... Nope... So I go to root explorer and figure if its blank let's just put something on it... but my created backup folder dissapeared after reboot... (F#*!&... S#*%... D#&$... D*$&... D!*%!!!!!!!) Can someone please ease my pain by telling me how to at least get my sd card to mount and be recognised as anything but blank??? it would really make my day... I understand I've probably lost all the stuff I wanted to save but o well... FML
*I'm just sayin...
When ever I had this problem (phone doesn't see the sdcard), I removed my sdcard, put it into an adapter and inserted it into my computers card reader, then reformatted it to FAT32, then put it back into the phone and everything worked great.

Happened to me as well. I must admit it is an annoyung 'feature'. Hope otheres see this and take heed.
I actually used the format (although on a brand new card) just yesterday and it worked fine. So I guess 'milage may vary' is what is happening.

Probably true but formatting it to fat32 on the computer fixed it.. after figuring out I had to do it through command prompt cuz anything else froze the computer completely until it crashed but all is well now thaks to the members of xda... now if only there were a way to recover my lost data lol

Evo got screwed up by putting in a new SD card

i transfered all my data to my new sd card. shut the phone off and put the new card in. booted it. i got a text. tried to reply and wouldnt let me. phone shut off and wouldnt boot. i went into recovery to clear cache and dalvik cache. rebooted and now its like its on a fresh new rom no apps no nothin. but its EXTREMLY SLOW now. 5x slower than my htc hero. and its freaking out.
i tried nand back up.. nothin. i tried everything.. wont stay on long enough for ruu.
so any ideas to help me fix this.
I usually format the new sdcard with the phone. Then I copy onto it, except for lost.dir which does not get over written.
Use the settings to unmount the sdcard, then reformat it. Copy from the old sdcard on to the new. Hopefully that will do.
ok i will try that in a sec. thank you
Did you get one of those cheap memory cards from China? If so, that may be the problem. I tried one of those cheap SD cards when I first got my phone and it worked all kinda ways messed up while it was in there. Try putting the old card back in. If you see it works with no problems, then it's your SD card.
the phone is still glitched out even with the old card
EDITwilly900wonka after i did that process it worked. probably not a smart move copying the file over as well. i just did a exact copy with all the files. nand .androidsecure and everything else on the lines of movies music and photos

Weird. Try wiping cache and dalvik cache,. If not, hopefully you have a NAND backed up that you can restore to.
Once you get your EVO back up and running I would advise you to run AVG Anti-Virus to speed your phone back up. Also install a custom ROM, this will most defiantly speed up your EVO.

i been using custom roms. but i was on mikfroyo then myn warm. then MIUI which i loved but it wont accept it now. so im off to something new. i tried koin elite. but that sucked for me...
I made the mistake of putting a blank SD card into my phone then formatting it with the phone. I lost all my apps etc. Even transferring all the files back to the phone didn't fix it. What I found you should do is boot into recovery before you ever boot into the phone. Then format and create the needed partitions, then mount the SD card while in recovery and move the files to the card. Wipe cache and dalvik and reboot. Phone acts like you never changed the card. From my experience its the most problem free method

Whats the best SD card for the EVO?
Say I want a 16GB card.
Does the evo support class 6 and 10?
Can I then use the MikFroyo A2sd? Or do I need to start with a wipe and a fresh install of MikFroyo?
ive had this happen during an sdcard switch as well. weird since I wasn't using apps2sd. i had to restore my nandroid.

it sucks. but oh well.
Nandroid FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
had that problem on my first 2 card switches the realized that what works for me is taking old card out, putting new one in(i do not open anything)just go to format the sd card then put the old one back in plug phone to pc in usb drive and opend my pc hit folder properties on my phones drive and select view hidden files. then copy all the info into my pc. then close all open windows on pc and change my phone back to charging only then unplug turn off the phone and remove and replace sd card with new one, turn on again plug to pc in usb drive and copy all the files i copied into the new sd card and hit replace on all the repeated folders. that method works flawlessly for me every time

Help! My sdcard cannot be recognised!

My GT540 won't recognise my SD card after during copying a file to the SD via PC the PC crashed, and now it won't recognise it! I can't mount USB either! It is either corrupted or it was also dropped during the PC crash, could the reader be broken? Any ideas to fix it?

I've bought a new one and formatted it, says blank when it has pic on it. About to try sdcard.org's SD formatter
Sent from my GT540 using XDA App
That didn't work and after a reflash (twice, first one crashed phone completely) it still says blank. It turns out that my sd reader on the phone (in the back is broken, as it has to be in a certain place to read it. I shall try and flash back to 2.1 and take it back to CPW

Not necessarily...
I had same problems (actually not in 2.3.3, and 2.3.4, then in older versions), and I was really crazy...i formatted my SD a million times, on a million different ways! The biggest stupidity is that I don't know what combination actually worked...
But I've noticed some things: never format, or copy larger amount of data from computer over the phones card reader! Put the card in PC-s card reader and use MiniTool Partition wizard, or something similar (I use Acronis Disk Director, and for me it's incomparably better then anything else), and then copy same data for your phone on that card (just that is not blank).
Another thing that might helped me (I'm not sure if it was coincidence, or it really helped): After format, I went first to recovery>mounts and storage>mount /sdcard(and mount /sd-ext if you have it). Then you can try mount USB storage in recovery and try to trasfer some data (to find out if it's really problem in phones card reader). If you transfer data successfully, reboot system and find out if you are pressing the thanks button, or throwing the phone directly into the wall!
(And have you tried to use another PC/card reader)
It's not scientifically nor empirically proved...but I don't know, you can try! I hope you'll succeed!
Thanks for your help but it turned out that the reader had a slightly bent joint. Bend it back and it works now!

Thanks everyone!
Thank you everyone for your help! The method above didn't work for long, so I found that it was a combination of position of reader on chip (back of phone, just move the whole reader, BE CAREFUL), the pins (as above) and the SD itself. I found that it was sometimes telling the TRUTH (WHAT???) when it was saying "SD Card damaged", what you do is copy the files to a PC using a sd reader and then format it, then put it back in again. Worked for me, although I had to format before copying files, so it was good that I had backed up my sd to pc just 1/2 a day before it all went wrong.
