Just got out of chat with Tmo online chat with rep. I was told that the Pittsburgh area is online with the 1900 mhz spectrum and that all gsm phones with the bands should work regular. I have also checked the Fcc maps and another map I found in another forum which i will post soon as i find the link again. Anyways, here is a copy of the chat with the rep:
Thank you for choosing T-Mobile. A representative will be with you shortly.
Welcome to T-Mobile online sales support, how may I help you with your purchase today?
Jillian: I'm more than happy to assist you. Can I ask for your name please?
You: Yes, I have a few questions regarding your network in my home region of Pittsburgh, Pa.
Jillian: Can I know your zip code?
You: 15140
You: I am a current Sprint customer and I plan on porting over two lines
You: I am trying to find out if my area has hspa working on the 1900 mhz spectrum yet?
Jillian: We have an excellent network at Your home region.
You: I have done a little research and it appears that T-mobile owns some of this spectrum licensed here throughout Pittsburgh.
Jillian: For which phone are you asking that?
You: I am interested in buying an unlocked Samsung Note from manafacturer and would like to add to value plan when we start service.
You: However it does not have the 1700 mhz band
Jillian: Let me check it for you, please allow me a minute.
You: but apparently you guys have been refarming 3g over to 1900 mhz in order for Lte deployment.
You: Thank you.
You: That way I can purchase my perfect phone with no worry about 4g
Jillian: Please hold for a minute.
You: sorry
Jillian: Thank you for waiting. As I've checked that we have the 1900 spectrum band for hspa in Pittsburgh and the Samsung Galaxy Note works on the 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 spectrum bands.
You: Yes, Thank you so much as this was the hardest to find. Thank you so much!
Jillian: Would you like to go with your purchase of the value plans now online and want to port your number as well?
You: Not yet, waiting on paycheck today and will be going to store to port numbers. This is due to the fact that I would need to get the phone before porting so we are not without service. But thank you as you were a huge help.
Jillian: It's okay. I hope, I have answered all your questions?
You: Yes, and this is a for sure thing though. Not to second guess you. I just would hate to pay so much for the device and not get the good speeds. But with that being said, you guys just got two guaranteed longterm customers. Keep up the good work! Thanks
Jillian: Thank you for choosing T-Mobile. Have a great day. We value your feedback, please click on the "End Chat" button to provide us your views on your chat experience today.
Now this is from tmobile themselves. Are there anyone out there that can confirm this? It covers the whole western and most of the east part of Pennsylvania.
Goodbye Sprint and your Sh*tty switch and baits! Tmo here I come.

Cause they're let is slower than Tmobile here and a lot cheaper. Plus my note get hSpa+ with t-mobile anyway. Cheaper. Wif calling at home, work, and school means clearer less dropped calls. Plus, i got option of 49 dollar plan. On top of that within phone I can go to any gsm carrier in Us post or prepaid and get full functionality. I have more control now!

Who uses enough data to be throttled? I have 5 GBs of 4g data, and never use more than 3. Unless you want to replace your ISP with your wireless carrier, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

You also have to worry about the fact T-mobile has limited 1900mhz spectrum around the USA, so if you travel you will be stuck on EDGE service, what sucks about this, is that you won't be able to roam on AT&T's 3G/HSPA+ until you are out of T-mobile's EDGE coverage.

But there's lots of 1700/2100 spectrum, 1900 is just so we can get 3G/4G from AT&T where we only have EDGE.

I just got back from visiting Pittsburgh, and unfortunately I have to report I was not able to receive any 3G spectrum from tmobile on my unlocked iPhone 4. Hopefully it's just a matter of time before t-mobile brings out the 1900mhz 3G frequency. So save your money for now and hold off on buying phone that doesn't support tmobiles 1700/2100 frequencies. EDGE isn't all that bad for web/email and I can even manage to watch low quality YouTube videos on my iPhone 4 (as YouTube videos are turned down to low quality automatically on the iPhones built in YouTube app while streaming over EDGE/3G), but for tethering, Netflix, downloading apps/music, it will feel terribly SLOW IMO. Please tmobile bring out the 1900mhz frequencies!!!!

I'm just making this thread for the future. If its possible if people can tell us if they have gotten their atrix working on t mobile and how they did it and if hspa works because it does have the bands for it according to the Motorola website. Thanks for any info.
Yo I got it to work with simple mobile with their 4g. Just go to gsmhosting forums and buy a code from their advertised sites. They email it to you in 5 minutes, just input imei and that it.
So this phone would or wouldn't work on t mobile? I know in the past I haven't bothered with ATT phones on TMO because the 3g is at different frequencies...but if the phone is 3rd party and supports all the frequencies then theoretically this phone should work on TMO, as any other phone would.... Anyone know for sure though..?
Thanks for the info. Now just for t mobile to make sure. I know simple and t mobile almost the same but I don't just wanna go and spend 550 and be stuck.
Simple mobile uses the t-mobile towers so lol yeah ! As I said I got it working with simple mobile and they have 4g too.
Can you do a speed test for me? And where and how much was the unlock code? Thanks.
Check this thread already on unlocks.

It would work, but only on 2G. T-Mo uses 1700 and 2100, while the Atrix ony has 850, 1900, and 2100

Well he may just be confused a bit. After it's unlocked it will work on T-Mobile, but not the 3G/4G due to the band differences. So it won't be worth the $599 if you don't get to use the fast speeds.
Of course not.

What i want to know is being that it works on 2100 bands, is if it would work on tmobiles 4G. 4G is available in my area and im waiting for my unlock code to come it to test it. If it's 2G only, thats cool in the mean time.

Word From the Moderator: No one wants a TMO Note more than me, But Bounty Threads such as these seldom reap the desired benefits they strive to reach. We at XDA encourage development, but remember, we are a free form organization and as such, trying to insert a bounty offer in a free form system is problematic at best........ so a word of caution.......
here's what we know, the power amplifier (the part controlling what frequencies the phone runs on) supports T-mobile USA's 1700Mhz bands. which would allow us to enable 3G. we also know the phone lists 1700Mhz in the service menu (*#2263#) but doesn't appear to enable anything or causes other problems on the device.
more than likely the issue lies in the Modem.bin within the device. after that I'm in the dark. consider me more of a cheerleader than a developer.

ANYONE in the united states that wants a Galaxy Note should be willing to put up a contribution, AT&T is causing more problems than they are worth for those of you using the Note with their service. I have yet to hear about T-mobile stone walling imported phones on their network.
I Personally don't intend to donate to any developers until we have a working product. but I'm not in control of how others intend to handle their pledged contributions.

You are one of the lucky few not having issues with AT&T, theres a few threads devoted to the **** AT&T is trying to pull.*
And yes, AT&T is trying to cannibalize TMo, but until that happens, and even when that happens, just like you, its "grandfather" time
*It was said in the AT&T text of death thread that someone went in and talked to a manager at a local AT&T store, and was told by them, that they where told not to activate the Note (got that?), I went in to 3 local AT&T stores down here and 1 of the 3 store managers told me the same thing, now 1/3 is low odds, but the other 2 looked... lazy... so its possible they got it but ignored/didnt understand the message, but the warning should be there...

AT&T abandons T-Mobile merger plans
To get back on topic:
I managed to get the 1700 band to stay enabled, but once I enable it, I can no longer connect to T-Mobile. I've tried with all bands enabled (GSM 850, 900, 1800, and 1900; and WCDMA 850, 900, 1700, 1900, and 2100) and I've also tried with only enabling what I think are T-Mobile's bands (GSM 850 and 1900; and WCDMA 1700 and 2100.) In all cases, once I enable 1700, I can no longer connect to T-Mobile and it doesn't even show up in the Network Providers list when I search. I can still connect to AT&T, however, with only emergency calls allowed. Once I turn off 1700, I can connect to T-Mobile just fine.
I will donate $40 (more if I get the new job I've been after by the time this goes through)

yeah, this requires someone to mod the radio or firmware for the radio to enable said bands... just changing the option in debug menu wont automagically enable it..

I grandfathered my unlimited data also BUT at&t throttled my data down to Edge speed after i passed 2GB thats unacceptable for $199 per month for 2 lines.....iam going to T-Mobile for their Monthly 4G with no contract unlimited talk n text plus 5GB data for $70, also by the way any new customer can grand father the data plan to unlimited, go to at&t store with a iPhone 2G and say u lost your iphone 4 and u want to use the 2G as back up for now, then when you activate it thru itunes it gives u the option to get unlimited edge internet for $20 and then u cut the sim and put it in your iphone 4 and the system will automatically upgrade it to the unlimited 3G data for $30 but what good is it if they throttle it down to edge after 2GB?

I use about 10gigs/ month and I haven't gotten throttled, only a warning when I hit 12gigs.
It depends on how fast you used your data. For example, on day 1 of your billing cycle, the throttling bar is anywhere from 500mb-2gbs and increases incrementally. So using 5gbs on Day 5 would get you throttled, but not on say... Day 15.
That's why LTE phones get throttled so fast.

Count me in for $100. I am a bit speculative that it will work, but I've seen a lot of amazing things happen here at XDA.
I just read that T-Mobile will be rolling out their new 1900 band. Does anybody know if that will give us note users 3g? I know the note supports it but want to make sure before I get too excited.
Edit: adding link. http://androidcommunity.com/t-mobile-rolling-out-new-3g-bands-20111220/
Bumping the thread with the new total, only a stones throw from 1,000 now.
have any devs even looked at this?
I'm not a developer, but I do have some ideas about these things. I know that other Samsung Phones used this same power amplifier, SKY77604, and that different modem.bin files could be flashed for use with different carriers. While it is impossible to flash another phones modem.bin, a logical step would be to investigate the other modem.bin's and begin the creation of a new modem.bin for the Galaxy Note based on those. Just a suggestion. Please devs, I want this phone very badly, but I cant live without 3g/4g.

My understanding of this is that T-Mobile isn't rolling out their own 1900 band per-se, it's more likely a byproduct of the 7 year roaming agreement that have made with AT&T as a result of the failed AT&T/T-Mo acquisition.

Please devs, I want this phone very badly, but I cant live without 3g/4g.

what other samsung phones are using the 77604? i suspect the Meizu Mx has a 77604, but it's not out yet. so it's hard to confirm.
I posted this in the Q&A section as well but seeing as this is a request and not really a question, I put it in here too.
I was wondering if there were any imported G Note owners in the LA California Market area that could test a situation for me...
I just came off of a 1 hour phone call with T-mobile tech support, they have told me that in the LA Market area they ARE INDEED running 1900mhz HSPA+ as of November 2011. They claim that the GNote should be capable of pulling in data on this band with a regular Tmobile SIM and entering the proper APN settings into the phone. I had this confirmed by a level 3 tech support agent and a supervisor, also from level 3 tech support.
If this is true, then we should ALSO be able to receive data on the 1900mhz band once the AT&T roaming agreements go into effect at the beginning of the new year.
Anyone who could verify this by actually using a Tmobile SIM and using the correct APN settings, your info would be much appreciated.
Even if it did work, wouldn't I have to pay outrageuos data roaming fee or no?

You would not... you would be on Tmobiles 1900 frequency, that is what I am looking for here, proof that it works, and Tmobile says it should. Also, when AT&T switches on the promised roaming, you would still have no charges, since Tmobile would have full access as part of the negotiated deal.

What is the outcome of this? Did the 1900 work in LA
What is the correct apn for tmobile 1900?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA Premium App
I wish they would come out with a list of the areas using the 1900 band. I saw a comment on an article the other day saying that they were getting the 1900 band with T-Mobile in my area (Philly suburbs) but I didn't really believe it as they said they lost it when they drove into the city. Why would it be in the suburbs and not the city?

I'm also curious to know if the APN settings are different.
Ever since I got a portable mifi hotspot i never consider the data bands. I enjoy my phone so much more knowing that I can turn on high speed data whenever I want.

Here are my APN settings. I am in the LA Market.
So after reading a Thread about it going live in Pittsburgh, I figured i'd contact t-mobile myself to confirm if I had access in New Orleans.
!Socorro S: Welcome to T--Mobile Live Chat! My name is Socorro sj and my Rep i.d. is xxxxx.
!Socorro S: Can you give me 3-4 minutes to look it uo for you?
Me: Yes, thank you.
!Socorro S: what type of phone do you have?
Me: I currently have a monthly4g plan w/ T-mobile. I wanted to purchase the international version of the Samsung galaxy note (GT-n7000). The phone doesn't have the 1700mhz base band
!Socorro S: Hello, are you still there?
Me: I heard T-mobile was refarming the 1900mhz base band for data and has deployed it in some areas.
!Socorro S: Oh, okay. Let me look into that, and thanks for the info.
Me: If you need any other information, feel free to ask
!Socorro S: Let me check on my resources here. I will be right back, in about 4-5 minutes. Is this okay with you?
Me: That's fine.
!Socorro S: what phone do you have now. Prepaid Accounts do not show us the type of phone customer has.
Me: That's odd.
Me: I have a Samsung Exhibit II 4G
!Socorro S: Yes, 900mhz band for data live in New Orleans.
Me: I'm sorry, do you mean 1900mhz?
!Socorro S: 1 mean, 1900mhz, sorry.
Me: Oh, that is great news!
!Socorro S: Anything else I can be of further help today?
Me: I have one other question.
!Socorro S: Sure!
Me: Is it possible to confirm if the samsung galaxy note will be coming to T-mobile under contract?
!Socorro S: There are conditions/eligibilities to follow. However, for this request, you will need to speak with our Customer Care experts. They can be reached by dialing 611 from your handset or 1-800-937-8997

As you can see, 1900mhz baseband for data is spreading. Looks like people with quadband radios can finally rejoice. New Orleans seems to be one of the last places to get anything, so this was a shock to me.
Is 1900 MHz the frequency that AT&T uses? I can't remember. I would love to use 3G on my Droid 3.

taken from the wikipedia page:
DROID 3: CDMA2000 800/1900, EV-DO Rev. A
GSM 850/900/1800/1900 UMTS
WCDMA 850/1900/2100
That's not what I asked. I meant does that mean 1900 MHz will be what T-Mobile will allow now that they didn't before?

We've been fairly blessed with wireless tech implementation in new orleans thoguh, we were one of the very first to get ATT LTE and had very early ATT 3g rollouts here too, as was the case with the 3g rollout The large number of events being held in the New Orleans area plays a huge role in their decisions, it was a superbowl and final four that did it for 3g and the BCS championship that did it for ATT LTE and superbowl this year as well all play a role and hey ill take it right
Sorry to bump an old thread - but New Orleans definitely has NOT been refarmed yet. I am sitting in the middle of downtown NOLA right across from Tulane Medical School and my Pre 3 only gets ****ty E.
I called 3 T Mobile stores about when the refarm is going to happen and they gave me three different answers - by the end of the month - by the end of summer - and in 3 weeks.
It has been 1 week since I called so I guess we'll see what happens.

They have no clue, anyone who knows won't be on the phone, I played the same game with them a year ago, I don't honk they'll do it till LTE isn't this market, I mean they didn't do it for 2012 when we had so many HUGE world stage events hosted here Super Bowl most recently, I mean ATT managed an Entire LTE deployment of SE Louisiana just for all the conventions and events to promote their LTE service, and its damned nice but I checked weekly with t-mobile with nothing, and the thing is, usually you know before hand when it's coming because they are doing tests at least in the CBD for a while before the officially "flip the switch.
I'm actually on the opposite end now, I'm using my tmobile mytouch 3G slide on ATT EDGE, actually do you want to meet up somewhere public and trade phones? Let me know either way, now that I'm focused on it I need to get back on at least 3G.

You DO realize that the rollout of the highspeed wireless is to encourage people to buy their phones to tether them to their home computers at a huge markup because most of the telco lines and cable is still in bad repair from disasters/floods of the recent past. Don't think for a second AT&T is being "nice", it's a marketing strategy. However, congratulations on receiving an actual usable 4G signal out there!

Should be soon. Any place that has refarmed 3g will be easy to upgrade because it's software at that point. The refarm is taking advantage of new panels and hardware that supports LTE-10 and PCS/AWS DC-HSPA all from the same panel. I think they are just testing KC/Vegas for LTE right now and apparently are having more problems getting it working right then they care to admit, as it's not as simple as UTMS is since that's an older tech and LTE-10 is brand new and not well tested.

Bad info? I used to work for AT&T a few years AFTER Katrina. That was STILL a complete and utter mess even when I started. Yes, it's been some time since I was working for the big blue Deathstarâ„¢ now, but you've never seen all the red tape inside that goes into every little stupid detail. You are correct, I was not directly responding, merely passing comment, so feel free to ignore me at your own whim.
Hi fellows xda, i'm an international student here in the States and I just came 3 days ago. Now after purchasing a T-mobile SIM Card I realize that, T-mobile 3G network does NOT work with my device, which is an iPhone 3Gs unlocked. I do not know its origin because a friend give it away to me, but I can use it normally in Asia so I assume that it uses 900/2100 UMTS band for 3G/HSDPA.
After a while of searching now I know that none of T-mobile nor AT&T support this baseband, so my question is, are there any other U.S service provider that support this band so I can get 3G/HSDPA working on my phone ? I desperately need this feature because I need to skype with my family back home. So please, any suggestion would be helpful. I don't want my phone will be a brick here because it doesn't have internet on it.
Thank so much guys for any help or suggestion. I'm waiting for all your replies.
I think the 3gs has 1900.

T-mobile uses both 1700mHz/2100mHz bands. 1700 for the downlink. 2100 for the uplink. It won't work only on 2100.

yes i do know that basically my phone will not have any 3G on T-mobile.
so is there any other network provider that will work with my phone ?

i don't really know. maybe. i just know for sure that it has 2100 because my country's where i use it with 3g is 2100.
i'll give it a shot this weekend anyway. thanks for the tip.
EDIT: yes, i've search. it does operate on 1900. so i'll be changing to at&t next month then. because i've already payed for the 1-month prepaid t-mobile plan though.
thank you so much
EDIT: but it seems at&t plans are a little bit expensive for a student like me. and i do see complains about the service. so if possible. are there any other network that work with 850/1900/2100 3G baseband ? just curious. so i will be like having a choice. if not, it is att for sure.
