Focus gets hot and fast battery drain on 3G - Focus General

With 3G on my focus gets hot on the backside as well front (when I place the phone on the face for call I can see it is very hot) and batter drains very fast sometimes just under 2 hours with or without usage. Anyone got the problem?

Can you check if it's the battery or the mainboard getting hot? Take out the battery and see if that's really the source. If it's the mainboard, you should get a replacement for your Focus.
Mine gets warm after 1h+ of talk/browsing but never hot. Also, I (and you should too) can get at least 4-5h of talking or continuous browsing through WiFi/GPRS (not left alone).

You can't check the motherboard but you can do a series of tests. Please see this thread for the Diagnosis codes.

really hot phone

No .really, it gets so hot, it feels like a skillet
Anyone else experiencing this?
ive never had it get skillet hot although i think you are exaggerating lol if your not then get it replaced...
Okay so maybe not skillet hot lol, but its def hotter than normal overheating.
yepp my one gets pretty hot quick after using it about an hour.battery life widget temperature reads about 105-106.5F after that i have to kill all apps to cool down and i also notice it by the kick stand metal.thanks again "HTC"
Mine got pushed to the limit today...
I wanted to drain my battery as quickly as possible so I could condition it...
Turned the screen on max brightness, no turn off, turned on bluetooth on standby, wifi on standby (these two alone used 14% of the battery), started a linux ISO download over 3G, turned on 4G (there's no 4G in my area), turned on GPS... Took about 2 1/2 hours to kill the phone to the point that it shut down... but it was quite warm. I was afraid I was burning the circuitry at one point. It was so hot the heat transferred all the way through my Innocase.
Other than the extreme usage I put it through today, it has never gotten even more than slightly warm for me even when pounding on it for hours straight.
it only gets hot if i'm using the stock sense rom. once i flashed to froyo 2.2 all's good and doing the same stuff.
Oh and just noticed some light leakage under my home and search keys is that normal?

That's the screen separation issue... Swap it out if you can find a store that has one.

I don't think it's that particular issue - the screen actually separating from the bezel. My own screen seems solid as a rock, yet there's a *very slight* light leakage noticeable in total darkness. 003 hardware received from sprint.com on 6/11.
I hit 113˚F for about half an hour yesterday. Usually it's not that hot while charging.
If I could get the refrigerator light to stay on, I could power the charger in the ice box.
So we need a thermo-ionic cooler built into a cradle.

I have ZERO leakage on my 002 model.
Just got back from Sprint, they held the phone and said it did feel excessively warm, and they could see the light leakage, but I have to go back tomorrow because it was too late. They better give me a new one, or I'm gonna be pissed.
I think I found the problem. It was searching for network the whole time,so I went into settings and saw that it said ''unable to connect" under mobile networks. Just unchecked it then checked it and it Connected. No more overheating as of yet.

Overheating problem

I'm wondering if anybody else's aria gets extremely hot like 45-50 degrees celcius when its NOT charging. It's not the battery that feels hot its the bottom of the back of the phone, with the case off its almost too hot to touch and the front of the phone where the buttons are. One thing I can't stand are phones that get too hot too touch when I'm using it. If it is just a defect in my phone i have a week and a half to take this phone back to the store and exchange for another one, just don't want to if i don't need to cuz Id have to unroot this one and root a new one. I know phones can overheat when they're charging but yeah it gets hot when its off the charger in the middle of the day.
Also my warranty sticker ripped the d off the word void because the battery was so hot it stuck to it.

mine has never been that hot if that helps, even after the first few nights that i spent rooting and messing with the phone
Mine gets warm if it's under heavy use, but I would never characterize it as 'hot'. Certainly not burn-my-hand hot.
If yours is too hot to touch, then I would say it sounds like a defect. Pain in the ass to have to re-root, but it's better than burning a whole in your jeans.
yea sounds like its defective... would def get a new one. Mine gets warm under heavy usage, but never hot.
i use my htc fuse all the time while at work. i use it to tether my laptop to it. when i download a large movie file which will take about 30-40 min the phone will heat up fast. and when i download back to back it stops charging the phone use the battery power. i think that the phone has some temp gauge or something to block the charge. don't care much for the phone if it goes bad. i have back up phones.
so to answer ur question. it will get hot if your using ur phone alot. and when it does it stops charging.
yeah i think i might just stick it out because i really do not want to have to re root it. i use it alot, but i hate how hot its been getting recently, i have until saturday the 18th so ill wait until friday and see how it is, it was fine today but if its still overheating then yeah ill take it back. I still have a warranty with HTC with the phone so if something happens after saturday ill send it back to them.
and yes, the HTC Aria has the overheating when charging mechanism to stop the charging process. which is nice. it lowers the voltage on the battery, stops the charging, and wont continue charging it until the temperature returns to normal. which most phones will just continue charging it even if its too hot. which sucks for people with those phones lol.
thanks for the input guys. if someone notices there phone getting "warm" if you can check the temp of the battery on your phone id reallly appreciate it. you can check it with spare parts or the battery widget(download from htc widgets) it will tell you the battery temperature. just so i can get an idea of what people consider warm.
My Aria actually got so hot while in use and charging that it turned itself off.
I was using Pandora, and Google Nav at the same time while charging that it twice that day, simply shut itself off. The whole phone was hot to the touch, so i now use a vent clip on holfer for it so its in front of the AC at all times while driving.
Glad to know I am not the only one.
I've noticed it also depends on the temperature of the enviornment your in.

Heat issues....
I usually have long conversations and this phone get really hot - even when not using speaker phone option. Last HTC I had (WinMo) got hot too. Anyone know if the Captiva get hot?
nope the captivate doesnt get hot. I mean if browsing the web/playing games on full brightness for an hour+ my captivate at most will get warm. but other then that it doesnt get hot at all.
Mine gets slightly warm after a good workout but if mine was too hot to touch it would have gone back for sure...no questions asked.
I have notices that mine does get warm depending on what I'm doing. I have also noticed that running either Pandora or Google navigation does seem to make the phone warm up. Maybe its the combination of the two apps running that is doing it.
By the way does anyone know if the cpu is located in the lower half of our phones where it is getting warm/hot at? And could it be that there just isn't enough heat dissipation is why we can feel it.
My only other question is are you using a case that covers the whole back of the phone? Are the results the same without the case?

Samsung Vibrant overheating issues?

Anyone else having an issue who might live in Texas? I notice severe delay in the OS. Also had a small 1 foot drop out of my hand while I was sitting down and it went CooCoo, had to reset, and reinsert SD card. Ambient Temp today was 97 55% humidity. I noticed my phone was actually hot in the heat, which worried me.
Humidity ? What was it temp wise? I have mine up yo 115 while charging ... it's a different processor it heats a little.. I returned one due to it but the new one is just as hot. Don't feel hott just says it is. No biggie. To me...

Been over a hundred here and 60-80% humidity, phone feels fine.
My phone has gotten got to the touch when pushed really hard and charging. I think its the battery... But this has been reported on other forums as happening often. If Tmobile says its the battery they swap it out for free. And if you aren't rooted they will swap the phone.

My phone gets really hot when charging
but also gets hot when doing a lot on it. Hot enough that you can cook an egg on it and I was uncomfortable putting it to my ear for a phone call.
My heat feels like its coming for the processor and not the battery.
I live in Florida and its always hot as hell an humid the phone hasn't had any weird issues. It does get hot while charging an during use at times.

I live in Texas and the temperature outside has been mostly in the 90's and low 100's during the day and in the 80's at night. I haven't noticed my phone getting unusually hot though. I does get a little warm while charging or during heavy use but no more so than my G1 did. In fact, it usually seems relatively cooler than my old G1 felt.

In tampa... handset does get warm to the touch, when pushing it through paces (GPS, 3g, heavy data use...), but not alarmingly so.
My phone hit 134.6 degrees this morning and its a brand new vibrant out the box just installed battery indicator to monitor.
I've had mine get really hot as well, up around where i'm guessing the processor is, not the battery. When this happens, my battery really drains. I've looked to see what tasks are running and could see nothing. Powering off and on didn't fix it. Taking out the battery did. It's happened just a couple times in the last couple of months.

overheating like mad

ok so heres the problem. a few days ago i drop my nexus 4 and it cracked the back glass.
what ive have notice is the phone getting super hot now. even when i have my uv setting its runs blazing hot. at first i though it was just the heat from the weather. but the other night i left it plug in and went to sleep. (i turned off data) the next day i woke up and went to get my phone from the stand and it was to hot to hold and i notice the phone being off and charging but the charging icon was blueish purple. i unplugged the phone right away and left it alone. it took it over 30min to cool down. it was so hot you could not hold it for more than 30 secs.
I am wondering if me droping it might have caused a short on the board? I have put it in airplane mode and charged it the day of to see if it would help and it sort of did help.
today i drop it again on the floor and the network cut right now and i had to use air plane mode on and off to get it to find network again.
any advice would be great. I am not worried about the back glass being cracked i can replace it. but want to know if it should be sent in for warranty?

It seems like in first case the battery broke down. You can try to open it and see if the battery became bigger, or to service as the second fall has damaged it more.

Hmmm...it may be battery controller for example.
If it was only battery, its simple to recover byself but as it was one more drop and the promlem for charge is deeper -> better way to go to service.
whats your cpu temp? battery temp? whats youre definition of "overheating like mad"?
while plug in charging without doing anything just wifi and cell on it runs at 40-45c its use to top out at 36c
the other day when it did that thing where it was super hot the phone was off but the last temp the app recorded was 60c. but it was way hotter then that just the phone shut off i guessing it reach max temp shutdown or something but even after it shutdown and the phone was charging it was too hot to hold. you could say cook an egg on it hot!

well, 40-45C while charging is very normal. but to reach 60C while charging.. what was your phone laying on? a couch cushion? something else that can be an insulator?
on my stand like i normally have it. like i said when im charging it it never really use to go over 36c. i just notice when in use or charge even after uv and uc the phone it gets hot. before i had drop it it would never get that hot

youve got misbehaving apps, and maybe a terrible phone signal too.
Weather is about the same as last week and the week before.

Can -20 ℃/-10℉ temperature negatively affect s7 egde's battery when it is turned off

I live in Minnesota which is still pretty cold in February.. My s7 edge will arrive tomorrow but I will not be home and that means the phone will be out in the front door for hours before I can get in inside...Now I am just worried about if the cold can hurt the battery inside the phone if it stays outside for that long. Thanks!
address ?? lol no, it will be ok...
The cold will drain your battery, but it probably won't cause any damage.

Got it.. I was just afraid that the cold will reduce the battery life of the phone permanently if it stay in the cold for too long.
was in korea last week and the lowest i use my device was in -15C still working fine thou... so i think it will survive -20C as well
