[Q] Can i flash roms this way? - GT540 Optimus General

Ok so i'm a total noob, i've looked around at afew tutorials on xda and many other sites.
But i have a problem, i'm unable to boot into recovery mode, I've tried holding down the buttons and i even tried afew apps/widgets but the effect mentioned below occurs.
Also the boot logos do not appear when i turn my phone on (after it fails to boot into recovery or normal reboot), but the sounds/jingle does. I have to press the [turn off] button then the home button or else my phone stays on a black screen (with back-light but black).
Heres some information about my phone:
Model Number:
GT540
Firmware version:
2.1-Update1
Kernel version:
2.6.69
[email protected] #1
Fri Oct 15 12:47:03 EDT 2010
Software version:
GT540-V20b-OCT-15-2010
I am running 2.1 (offical lg) as far as i know, but then again i'm a total noob. I allready had 2.1 when i bought the phone.
I am rooted (used z4root).
I found this app named ROM Toolbox [By JRummy16] on the android market, and from what i've read you can install roms from it, So i was wondering if i had a rom image/.zip could i use this to flash a rom onto my phone?
If anyone has answers to any of my problems please post a link to a thread and any help is appricieated. Again, sorry for being a noob xD
Also if anyone needs more details i'm willing to co-operate. Thank you all for you time.

you need to flash fastboot 2.1 rom via kdz updater, and then flash recovey via fastboot
you need to boot into download mode and then use kdz
(or try to flash via that black screen, if yor computer find ur phone over usb cable)
about kdz

@up 100% correct lol

I did Vol. down + power on.
then KDZ_FW_UPD and reflashing with the rom but it didnt work. AFter the phone restarts by it self it still stuck at the android logo.
Help me
Type: 3GQCT
PhoneMode: DIAG sometimes i try cs_emergency
Version: nothing

I don't really know which rom it had but i am trying some roms. I baught the phone in carphone warehouse in England (UK in summer 2010.
when your phone stucks on android logo, let it be at there .. connect phone to the computer and try to flash with kdz updater again. (my computer finded phone then [adb device] )
i tried that but after the phone restarts by it self it still stuck at android logo
Try it again and again in cs_emergeny or in standard emergency mode. Delete all LG drivers, boot your device and connect it to your pc. Your Windows will check for drviers and updates automatically. After installing the drivers u can reflash your phone without any issues
what rom you have installed? do you have fastboot or recovery installed there ?
I tried many roms. I tried fastboot, recovery but it still stucks at the android logo after the phone restarts by it self..
before all this hapend i installed app2sd then my phone went very slow and got frozen after i restarted it got stuck at the android logo.
anyone know?
The only thing I know is that I had the same problem...
I tried to flash a UK Vodafone ROM on my NL Vodafone phone, and apparently that didn't work...
The only thing that worked for me was starting the phone into download mode (Volume down, home button and power button, if I recall correctly) and then installing the 2.2.1 OpenSwift ROM via Windows Enabler and KDZ_FW_UPD.
Good luck!
1- Hello you need Press VOLUME UP + HOME + SEARCH buttons, you see the lg logo
2- update wiht Clockwork recovery rom.kdz
the phone started.. you need remove the battery.
3- Put the battery again and then press Power Button+ Camera you see LG logo but whait the screen black its recovery.
Flash wiht Black system by Quarx (extract the .zip in a folder -
open the folder you see fastboot, system and flash, just click on flash)
Sorry for my bad english and i hope this help you
use cis custom rom with fastboot and enter fastboot with Camera+Power and install quarx or recovery and restore from there

Not really downgrading but i will try.
EDIT: Thank you soooooooooo much, i flashed it with the Black system rom and it is working now. My phone was like dead for 1 month and u made it alivee thank u soooooooo much omg.
I'm also having the same problem but no luck yet
You need to factory reset your device if you are downgrading from 2.2/2.3 back to 2.1 etc. Go into fastboot and use the following command
Code:
fastboot -w
fastboot reboot
The boot loop is caused by incompatible data that is on the data + cache partitions. A factory reset will solve most 'android screen' boot loops.

[Q] Back to 2.2

hello everyone
I want to restore my phone back to 2.2, cause some bugs in 2.3.1 make it to bad for me. but now the problem: I don't know which backup (by me) is 2.2, fastboot doesn't connect to my phone so i can't flash from the computer and i haven't a clockwork mod anymore. what should i do?
Use Mur4ik's 2.3.2...don't use the Alpha of Joestone :L:L It's not ready.
Ehm sorry, it seems like i've got 2.3.2. I've got Mur4ik's version. My bad. But i should i flash something without a way to flash something?

I don't understand what you mean
Oh:
1) i've got 2.3.2 from mur4ik
2) how can i flash images? In my first message, you can read that all things to flash (fastboot, clockworkmod) doesn't work.

First, try to flash an official 2.1 rom with fastboot:
- Get KDZ Updater
- Get Europe Open + Fastboot ROM
- Install MSXML package (included in KDZ archive)
- Run KDZ Updater
- Choose 3GQCT in left dropbox and DIAG in right dropbox
- Browse for the ROM file
- Click "Launch Software Update"
- Wait for it to finish and to reboot the phone
- You will now have a non-functional 2.1 ROM on Your phone, but You will have fully functional FastBoot
- Now, remove the battery and USB
- Place battery back in the phone and press Power+Camera and keep holding Camera until the white LG logo dissapears and black screen appears instead (Fastboot mode)
- Now open 2.2.1 ROM by Ankuch and Quarx and download and flash OpenSwift 4.4 to Your phone
Good luck with flashing!

Thx, but what do you mean with 'a non-functional 2.1 ROM'?
I mean that the phone will not be able to boot to Android. It will just boot to endless loop on Android logo animation, but it is not a problem, since You just need the FastBoot functionality of that ROM.

oh, cause when i hold (now with 2.3.2) power+home, i will get a black screen too, but fastboot doesn't recognize my phone.
That's because that is the combination for recovery and, in your case not functional one. Just try power and camera button combination.

where can i find the correct bootloaders for the rom i used and do i need to flash them using odin while only the bootloader checked ? or do i need to reflash the whole phone again including the rom too ?.
Start by just flashing with pit and repartition checked and phone bootloader update .#

i did what u suggested, still the same problem, recovery enters but shows the samsung logo instead of the menu and when i turn on the phone the screen show colours all over the screen for 2 seconds then it boots normally. maybe i downloaded a faulty rom, can u direct me to a safe rom with good kernel ?
Go into the 2.3.3 thread, and download the rom with the bootloader. Flash the whole rom.
Problem solved.

Soft bricked my Lava R1s - Please Help!!!

Hi,
I couldn't figure out where to ask this query since I couldn't find anything regarding my phone. I own a Lava_R1s with StarOS V3.3 with Android Version 6.0. This is a phone available specifically in the U.A.E market since its made without camera and GPS so that it can be used in the oil field.
I tried to root the phone and now its soft bricked. I can enter fastboot mode and recovery mode (TWRP) but every time i try to switch on the phone it keeps going into a loop of the "Lava Powered by android" and switches off and then continues to keep doing that.
Here is what i did.
1. I used fastboot to unlock the OEM.
2. Then I flashed TWRP as recovery for the mobile.
3. After that i installed SuperSU zip file.
After all these steps my phone refuses to start up. It just comes to the LAVA powered by android screen and stays on that screen till i press the power button.
Further more I tried flashing the boot and system with Stock ROM files downloaded from needrom.com. That hasn't helped. In fact the looping of the initial screen started after flashing boot and system files (I used img files for Lava R1 Lite since those where the only ones i could find).
Would be really grateful if anyone could provide me a solution for this issue.
Another thing is that a lot of my colleagues have the same phone, so if there is anyway to extract the rom from their phone and install on mine without actually rooting their device it would also work for me i guess.
