HTC HD2
Android version: 4.0.3
Rom: Gingerbread / IcecreamTosti
Description:
My HD2 suddenly had startup problems. When I pressed the power (end call) button, I got:
"cedesmith's LK (CLK) v1.4.0.1
... ... ...
[240] -- suspend --"
Now the only way I can start my phone is by pressing the windows (middle) button and at the same time the power (end call) button.
I then first get the HTC logo (white background) and after that de cedesmith text, then I let go of the buttons.
Sometimes I get the recovery menu and sometimes the HTC logo (black background) and the HD2 boots and I get the lockscreen
Also, the return button (<--) doesn't work and I can't turn of my phone by holding the power on/off (end call) button. Only the short press works, holding it pressed longer doesn't function.
Is the cause for this known and is this software- or hardware related?
Please let me know what the solution to this problem is
Ramon
factory reset wipe in recovery If it does not work u need setup again android
rom
all rom here http://android.hd2roms.com/
Are you able to get to the tri colored screen? You do this by holding the volume down button as the phone is being powered on. If you can, I would suggest Task29 wiping it. You can do that with the Hd2 toolkit pretty easily.
I can use the windows key plus the power key to startup, however I cannot get in the boot menu (with this). Using the volume down key while the phone powers on doesn't do a thing.
So I can't get in boot menu, nor in tri color menu ... I was able to get in the boot menu however. Strange, but I can't anymore for some reason (tried it 10+ times)

These types of issues often tend to be hardware keys related, i've seen a few threads where disconnecting the bottom keys suddenly allowed you to get into bootloader again. WHether its the keys themselves, teh ribbon, or teh mainboard, who knows.
Not the kind of answer you were hoping to hear, im sure, and i cant swear that would work, it may not even be teh problem in your case, so im not advising you to start dismantling it, just sharing a few points gleaned from reading.
See my previous post
Going to dismantle it now
EDIT:
Removed four screws, heated front display. Started phone and was able to access recovery console (That's right, I have no idea why). Did a factory restore and the return key works. So now the power on off button only turns of teh screen and is not able to power off.
If you can somehow get adb to work try re-flashing the boot image from your kernel
> adb reboot bootloader
> fastboot flash boot boot.img
> fastboot reboot
just my 2 cents worth...

The problem is, I can't load the bootloader (three color screen).
So:
> adb reboot bootloader
Doesn't work. I get the white HTC screen and than cLK screen.
To rule out software issue try putting leoimg.nbh on the root of your sdcard and boot phone this will try to install clk 1.5 and cwm recovery if pressing the power key initiates the install ..
Details here....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402975...
go to post 3 .. download is there too..
otherwise
could be a stuck key.....

Doing this
Pressing power key causes clk: suspend
LEOIMG.NBH is in root
"enter SPL by holding VOL DOWN key while powering/resting the phone.
Press power button to install the nbh and then take out the battery for a second and power the device up."
The volume down key thing doesnt work with the phone. The only thing that works is the windows key + on/off key
sorry might of misled you just boot phone wait for prompt, it should see the nbh file and ask do you want to install...

The keys work, i've tested this in the recovery console. However in the operating system, they don't all work. Return doesn't (always) work.
How can i suddenly have boot problems along with key problems ?? Could it be a result of repeatedly dropping the phone ??

Yeah well, I dropped it a couple of times but if the phone is being able to start, access the internet, the camera works etc etc., then I find it strange that dropping the phone causes (only) boot problems
Could be a hairline crack in the ribbon or the mainboard, could be a slightly unseated ribbon connector, could be a single solder that has come lose but is still half connecting, could be an issue with the power delivery where the switchover from initial boot power to controlled power management is causing problems.

Going to open up the entire phone tomorrow, to check everything (as far as possible)
EDIT: The key problem was most likely caused by a fracture in the ribbon. The ribbon broke when disassembled. Before I order a new ribbon, can someone tell me why then I get bootloader messages? Is this or could this be related to the ribbon problem? Because if it is not, there is no use in ordering a new ribbon

If your G1/HTC dream's home button stops working, here is a fix (kinda). Whenever you turn your phone on it takes you to recovery (Home+Power=Recovery), here is a fix I found after an hour of Googling and ****.
Method number two got me back into my phone, but if it turns off I need to be at a computer using fastboot to turn it on.
It's better than nothing, Rogers is pissing me off. A week after the 1 year warranty and this breaks on me. Anyone know any permanent fixes or is it a hardware issue.

I have the same problem with the home key being stuck after humidity entered my phone. Which boots me straight to recovery mode. I have managed to recover my phone with the following steps:
YOU MUST HAVE ADB AND FASTBOOT INSTALLED IN YOUR PC!!!
1) If your phone has the home button stuck, you can't update or confirm anything with the Cyanogen Recovery! Because you need the Home button to confirm. So you must revert your Recovery back to JF's Recovery to use the recovery properly in this case.
2) I have tried for weeks to make the system bypass the recovery and have succeeded. YOU MUST REBOOT YOUR PHONE FROM RECOVERY TO BOOTLOADER. So use ADB to reboot in to Bootloader mode ( adb shell reboot bootloader ). Now that your in Bootloader mode, use the FASTBOOT commands ( fastboot reboot ) and voila, it bypasses the recovery.Make a script on your Winbows or Linux to make it as easy as one click!
If I have helped, please say Hi to my Android or give me a link to a replacement Daughter board...

I seem to have a similar problem.
But some how, it boots up properly once in a while. But even after it boots up, I cannot go anywhere except the home screen.
If the home button is stuck, this is expected right?
Dont you have this problem?
I suggest you take the phone apart and replace the broken button.
Another thing that might be a little EASIER (without actually *fixing* anything) is to write your boot.img into your RECOVERY partition. If you need recovery, you can always "fastboot boot recovery.img". Having the regular boot image in the recovery partition *should* make it boot normal with a stuck home button. This way you don't need fastboot to normal boot the thing.
I tried opening it.
I opened the screws on the back side. But I could not figure out how to get to the home button from inside.
For some reason, I can boot in properly. (It goes into recovery sometimes. But if I switch off and wait for sometime, I can boot normally.)
My main problem is that once I boot, I cant get anywhere from the main home screen.

That makes sense, since as soon as you launch anything, the stuck home button will return you to home.
You may want to try harder to take it apart. You need to remove the circuit board in the "chin".
Do you know how to get access to the chin?
I could not figure that part.
When I opened the screws on the backside, I could not see anything that would lead me to the chin.

Is there a better way than opening up the phone? The home button on my G1 stopped working, so, I unrooted the phone, but now it's stuck on the Triangle/Exclamation point screen. I've been able to do Alt S, (Alt+w doesn't work, I think the w is also broken), but I can't reboot because it asks for home and back button to reboot. Any other suggestions?
Ok guys, this is not a pretty solution but what you can do is re-map your phone so the camera button acts as a home key and home key does nothing. It's a hack but it's a simple one and sure beats the hell out of replacing the whole phone.
Here's a thread with directions.
I tried remapping my home button to the camera button and once in the os it works, but still boots into recovery everytime and doesn't let me wipe, flash, etc with the camera button. It aborts....
Also, a quick tip I learned......If u keep booting into recovery just go to console and type reboot android. It'll boot normally.
Sent from my HTC Dream using XDA App
with the remapping the keys make sure you push all the .kl files and if you want to remove the home button from working at all remove the home button line from the .kl file.
You should also make sure that you re-map your home button to do nothing, otherwise it will not work.
Thank u jj972 for that quick tip atleast I can get out of recovery mode....
I have a brick A501 that when turn on, it stays at android logo and wont boot...i tried to flash it with SD card, vol- +power with full package file, update.zip, but the phone just wont boot to flash mode....tried vol+ power it shows update pack=sd.update.zip..booting recovery kernel image and stuck there...
phone was brought in this stage and don't know the history..how to unbrick this phone please?
I'll take it you bought this used? And didn't bother to check it first?
Or if it was bought from a legitimate retail store. it would be just as easy to return or exchange it?
Regardless, 2 things you can try.
1. Hold vol - and power. Hold until you see small words in the upper left corner. Then release and wait 30 seconds. If it had a custom recovery installed, then probably somebody tried installing custom roms and messed things up. If you do indeed have a custom recovery, then don't do something stupid. Just power down the system, and post the results here.
2. You can try the pinhole reset near the power on/off button. Not sure of the exact procedure, but maybe tablet off. Hold in the pin then power on. You might do a google for the exact procedure.
The bad thing, is that you give very little history, so we'll have to try several things.
EDIT: Forgot to tell you, it is a Tablet, not a phone.

Thanks for your reply...First of all my customer brought the phone to me for repair. Maybe he was playing around with the updates and custom roms...
Anyways phone now cannot boot, only shows android...I followed the EUUs procedure, power off, push and hold reset, then power, it shows as APX device and install automatically after I did the reset+power...but the EUUs cannot find the phone after done reset+power...
As I mentioned, when I tried SD card method, Vol down +power, it won't go into flash mode..again the phone state now is when turn on, it's stuck at android..when i press vol up + power, it shows boot recovery then show and stuck at green android guy and sometime stuck at acer logo....thanks for taking time to help...i appreciate that.
No Problem.
The fact you still have life, means it can probably get up and running again.
In the 500 forums, there is some info about APX mode, and a couple users that managed to get it running again. You'll just have to look hard.
If I find it, I'll post a link here later. I just can't remember where it was
---------- Post added at 05:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:48 PM ----------
Also, refine your search for the term "APX" to search within the threads. Not the title. I remember it being buried within a thread.
And now, must do some work.
---------- Post added at 05:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:11 PM ----------
Another thing,
Saw a user who couldn't flash a rom (data wasn't getting wiped)
Although he did still have a recovery menu, it wouldn't wipe the data (probably a corrupted recovery.
Somehow, he installed the AcerRecovery to his pc, and was able to communicate with the tab, and re-flash a fresh recovery.
He managed to be able to install a rom.
So, you might also try that as well. AcerRecovery is in the market.
Also, booting to the normal recovery (if installed), is PWR and Vol -. Not +. Hold till you see the text in upper lt corner.
Thanks again for your help..but up until now, after many hours of searching for solution, I still cannot fix this tab..I got the phone to be in APX mode (reset +power), on the screen it does not show anything but PC recognize and device manager under USB shows as NVIDIA USB Boot-recovery driver for Mobile Device..I tried to use USBView to get UID, it shows weird numbers and letters under Instance ID,USB\Vid_0955&Pid_7820\6&d26abb4&0&4, instead of 15 # and letters as it suppose to.
Besides that, when I run the EUUS software update when it tells me to press reset +power, and YES, it didn't see the phone in APX mode and won't proceed...
I notice there's SNID # and IMEI # under the simcard and SDcard cover..can we use one of these # to get UID?
Any hope I can revive this dead phone? Thanks in advice...
Hi, after updating my acer Iconia Tab A500 this afternoon (Jan, 6), my tab rebooted as usual and after it switched on it got stuck on the Android splash screen. I switched off and on the device several times and tried resetting it (from the reset button) but nothing has changed. Boot is looping continuously but doesn't open up. I would appreciate if someone can help me out with this problem and resolve this matter as quickly as possible so I'll start using the tab again.

Hi thanks for your help but I already tried this with no success. I also did the manual reset where I inserted a paper-clip where it says reset, but still nothing. It justs boots again and gets stuck at the Android splash screen again. The strange thing is that it flickers as if it is going to move on but it repeats the animation of the Android splash screen in an endless loop.

Pressing the reset button with a paperclip does NOTHING. It only powers it off, basically. It is not a reset as you're thinking. It is like hitting a reset button on a computer. It just reboots it, it does NOT reset the OS.
Did you follow the instructions I gave you to actually reset the OS? And did you get the messages saying it's erasing data etc. If not, then you need to get that working.
Please let me know.

Hey TimmyDean, I used this method and it definitely worked for me. I had the exact same problem the OP did where no matter what I did, I got stuck in boot loop. The difference is I didn't update anything. I simply tried rebooting my tablet cause it had been running for like 4 days straight...lol
Anyway, I got it back to some weird looking ROM, and it works. Now I'm just trying to do a nandroid restore to get my old settings back.
*I think the 'key' to using or trying this erasing data method Timmy Dean has posted is exactly when you feel the tablet vibrate immediately release the POWER button but keep holding the Volume+ (right volume button). The second you release the power button, flick the landscape lock switch (the switch to the right of the volume button) real fast to the right and back left again, leaving in the left position. I had to do this a few times to get it right, I kept thinking it wasn't working either...but I tried and tried again.
Thanks again TimmyDean

I will "1 up" you. I will pay shipping.
Seriously though, there are only 2 options.
1. If you all were clever enough to get your UID number before all this happened. Then, you can NVFlash a new bootloader and recovery. Threads for getting your UID can be found in the Dev forum. Lot's of ways. I hear tell you can even look in your windows/temp directory at the tmp files and maybe find it.
2. You can try to look at Vache's thread in the Dev section "full package and updates". Grab an update.zip, put it on your SD card, and try holding either Vol+ or - and PWR at the same time. See if there's enough life left to install it. Probably not, but you never know. Would also try the rotation lock button thing as well. One never knows.
If you see the update start to install and fail, try a different update file. Heck, try it a couple of times.
Other option, send it to Acer for repair.

After an eng-off attempemt my dhd became in a strange brick situation: no turn on if I press power button but if I remove the battery for 5 minutes it turn on with a long vibration in the boot. When I power off the phone the brick condition return. Please help me
CAn you hold the volume button down and power on to get into the bootloader?
Nothing happened...Only if i remove the battery it power on. I suppose the bootloader was corrupted, you know how to reflash it?
I have also try to use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003 to flash another hboot, succesfully but after the reboot another brick...the phone power on only after 5 minute battery off. No solution found...
Nobody can help me? From my latest test with terminal I discover that i can't write hboot, why? Damaged? please help me
Had you achieved s-off? where and when did it all fall apart? You dont have a brick as it will respond to some input, even if it's only dragging battery out and replacing it. But I suspect the easiest root if you can't persuade it to boot at all is going to be attempting a warranty repair with HTC just play dumb.
I don't know if I have got the s-off because I can't enter in hboot, if is possible I prefer to avoid the warranty repair, in Italy they offer a very poor service (my dhd was already been sent 3 times unsuccessfully for the GPS)
if there is fastboot and you can't overwrite the bootloader you might have some issues with flashing a recovery version. You may want to try running the RUU software but i doubt this will help. I know it is difficult to kill an android but i think a corrupt boot partition might be the death of a smartphone.
When you load the battery back into the phone next time, press the power button, wait for the white screen to appear and immediately hold vol- might get you into the bootloader.

I didn't understand, when you power it up with battery pulling, you can use it normally, or not?

yes but i must wait 5 minutes without battery and other 5 minutes with, after this the phone power on automatically with a strange long vibration (1/2 minutes) but it is the only way that I have found
If you can get into hboot, and you issue the command fastboot devices (via terminal on your pc) does it list your DHD?
Sent from my Desire HD
if i try from pc no response, command fastboot devices get nothing and the hboot is very slowly and stuck on reboot command
If the PC sees the phone when is connected, try to run a RUU corespondent with your area http://www.filefactory.com/f/efa28fefafc4af9c/
Edit: I don't know if is the same situation but I read here that the devices shipped with Gingerbread cannot Eng S-OFF.
the pc doesen't see the dhd. could I try to flash the PD98IMG.zip with the hboot?
I could start with the hboot the zip indicated above, but then freeze the update process in step 9 "TP" what is it? The hboot indicate program firmware image
I have m9plus it is the mt6795 , and I was dumb enough to Try to flash with sp flash....The phone does not vibrate, light up, power up, nothing. The only thing it does is led lights up when plugged in. Is not recognized by pc in linux, or windows. is there no way of TP? is it truly dead? thanks for answering.
BTW; It was bootloader unlocked and s-offed.
Thank you.
Have you tried holding using the combinations:
> Power + VOL UP
> Power + VOL DOWN
> Power
Usually, you only need to do it for around 5seconds, but I heard of many people holding for around 30-40 seconds and it finally boots.

Have you tried holding using the combinations:
> Power + VOL UP
> Power + VOL DOWN
> Power

I tried every button config I can think of, and nothing works. I believe I formatted the bootloader.
I see SP flash tool has the risk of bricking your device. What did you flash exactly?

Found brom log
Not exactly sure. its been bricked for a few weeks now. I have been playing with my regular m9.
Seeing as Its pretty much bricked i dont knw what else to do. I thought of the uh oh program, but its not supported. anybody know how much HTC would charge to fix it?
Here is the brom log and such. It looks like I erased the preloader.
I had to delete some of the brom to fit the 512kb limit but I think the most important part is at the bottom
Have you tried pushing VOL+ VOL- and Power at once for a few seconds?
