[Q] SD card or SD card reader not working - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

Hi
I have a Huawei u8800 with a rooted stock ROM(thats what its called when its the ROM that came with the phone right?) 2.2.1. It seems that sometimes it doesn't find the apps from my sdcard, the apps i have as shortcuts only show as green and white things and when i try clicking on them it says i should restart my skin(GoLauncher EX). But it seems like its only the apps the phone doesnt find not the sd card itself. I can see how much space it is on the card in the settings and how much that is free, and it also remembers what skin i use on my beautiful widget's home widget. This only happens most of the times tho. Sometimes after ive rebooted it suddenly all is fine. I've tryed to put my sd card into another phone and that worked perfectly and i tryed to put another sd card into my phone and that worked fine to. So i have no idea where the problem is. The times it doesnt find the sd card i cant choose to use mass-storage when i plug it in my computer either. I't can find the sd card tho if i boot into recovery(i have CWN 5 installed) and choose mount USB storage and plug it to the computer with USB i suddenly find the sd card on the computer but when i reboot it again it doesnt work. So i have no idea it its the SD card that doesnt work, the SD card reader or if its a software problem.... I also have randow reboots. As you see im totally lost
Any help would be appreceated!

Hi theminikiller,
This is a note bug of Huawei U8800 / U8800 Pro.
Sometimes the external sdcard is not correctly mounted at the bootstrap and if you have installed application on your external sdcard, you cannot open them.
In my case I have installed Sygic GPS Navigation and maps are stored on the external sdcard. Sometimes it happens that my U8800Pro doesn't mount the sdcard and Sygic, of course, asks me to download again maps.
This bug is not fixed and the only workaround is to reboot Android.
The simple action that you reboot in recovery is always a "reboot".
So if you meet again the bug, it's not a must to enter into recovery mode but you can simply reboot.
I don't know if Froyo has a reboot entry in the power menu (holding the power button), but you can download and install an interesting apk named AN Reboot.
With this application (very light and fast) you can reboot in a short time.
Anyway, since you have this bug, please have a look here at my discussion where there is a poll: please vote!

Thank you for the reply!
It didnt help rebooting for me, does it help every time i reboot or do i have to try a few times? This is probobly a stupid question but what is apk? xD i tryed googling AN Reboot but didnt find anything so if you could give me a link that would be usefull.
I dont know if it is any connection between it but this happened to me the same day as i upgraded the google marked to google play.
Have you tryed to factory reset the phone? If not im thinking about trying that. I was thinking about sending the phone to the shop where i bought it to see if they could fix it. Or isnt this a fixable problem? Well if they cant fix it ill get a new phone so its a win win situation for me

An apk file is an application, usually downlodable from Google Market.
AN Reboot is still on Google Maket, but I can provide a link for you, here:

Hmm didnt find it on the market, well doesnt matter when i got the download from you xD so i just copy that into my phone memory to install it?

Cannot mount SD card anymore, why not?

I have had my Hero just over a week. When I first got it I was given the option to mount the SD card every time I connected it to my PC. For some reason I no longer get the option (I don't know exactly when it stopped, but it could be since I installed HTC Sync, but that's now disabled).
Any help would be much appreciated.
Sounds like your drivers have become corrupted or somehow disabled...
http://download.cnet.com/USBDeview/3000-2094_4-10614190.html
Download the USBDeview, plug in your Hero, open it up and click the Description tab so they are in alphabetical order. Hold shift and highlight all the HTC drivers, right click and delete them. Then disconnect your Hero, reconnect it and the drivers should hopefully reinstall correctly.
Hope this works for you!
Thanks OGC313, I appreciate the answer.
The solution was even more simple than that; apparently not all USB cables are created equal...
Can anyone tell me how I can restore widgets to my phone on Axura ROM. Everything seems to be working fine but my phone doesn't even have a basic dialer widget and I can see no way to access the basic application list.
I deleted the google widget which I think I should have kept maybe? Probably needed to re-sync something but I"m not sure
Should I reboot into recovery and restore some kind of data?

PC to USB SD Card?

I connect my Android HD2 to my PC via USB and copy files (APK) to my SD Card. I check to see that the files on on my SD Card and they show as being there. Then I disconnect from my PC.
1. Turn on USB Storage
2. Connect without Scan
3. Open Folder via Windows 7.
4. Recheck to see if the files are displayed on the SD Card - Yes they show again.
5. Close the SD Card view on PC
6. Disconnect USB
7. Sometimes I can see the files and install while other times I cannot see the files. It is not consistent. I have been trying to figure this out for over a week without any consistent results. It seems to be hit or miss.
Any suggestions? Thanks!
I generally boot into WinMo to transfer files to SD, takes a couple of minutes extra but saves me this kind of hassle

Thanks, I have done that and still do. However, I was trying to find a solution. Apparently you and I have this problem and I am sure others do, too.

Once you've transferred your file to your phone, disconnect the USB cable, go into setting and unmount your SDcard and then mount it again. Now you should be able to see all your transferred files.

Thank you! However, when you enter a Title a screen does come up with suggested like titles. If I am the 1,000th person to ask this question, it must be buried amongst the other 1,000,000 postings that have been asked again. If we stopped all the BS about people going back and forth and simply provide a link instead of a lecture, maybe this forum would be cleaner. Example:
1. How would I or anyone else know to check your replies to these questions in your profile? Who R U????
2. Use Droid Explorer here instead of Windows Explorer. I use the search function.
3. Know your facts before you get bent out of shape the next time.
4. If you would have taken the time to try and help instead of trying to play 'KNOW IT ALL' you could have saved some time.
5. If you think I am lazy, Tough Stuff.
6. MYOB!!!

I have used the option of Rebooting into WM then copy files to SD and that always worked. However, I have never turned off phone and take out SD Card. Try it without turning off phone and removing card.
Just reboot into WM, USB to PC, copy files to SD then go into your File Explorer and install from there without - turn off phone and removing card.
Let us know if that worked for you.

actually finding out what it's looking for in the card is the key for fixing the problem.. like for example, if it's looking for the rootfs.img, then that means it's looking for the wrong folder and/or you have to edit your boot parameter to correct it or move certain files to the folder to get it working correctly.. so make a note of what it's looking for when you boot it up again and then come back here and let us know to get a better response on how to fix your problem
It's booting that there is no Rootfs.img in the SD but i checked it, even tried putting new rootfs file and deleting the old one... same thing happened. I can only get into Android on First boot any after that it gives me no bootfs.img in SD error ...
I'm having the same problem. I have tried restarting immediately after booting into linux without loading any apps and I have tried downloading apps. It will always boot correctly the first time and then it will freeze at Root.fs
One Solution I found is that when you go into the SD card and delete the Android folder it works again... so far there is no harm to anything yet, all you do is delete the android folder then restart haret file again and you are back into your android OS with everything saved the way you left it... must be something in the startup files in a lot of these builds. anyways if anyone knows how to fix it without deleting the android folder please let us know.

hmmmm.. why do you have to delete the Android folder?? what android build are you using?? where did you extract the Android build on your card?? is the haret.exe and clrcad.exe inside the same folder as the initrd.gz, rootfs.img, data.img etc??? one way to find out is make sure you extract the "Android" folder on the root of your microSD card.. also, make sure that there's no subfolder named "Android" inside the "Android" folder, as i know some build compresses the Android folder inside another android folder or sometimes inside the folder of the builds name.. also, copy and paste your startup here so we can see what folder is it looking for on your android build.. because, if you're getting the can't find the rootfs.img error, it means that it's searching for the wrong location or the haret.exe is not inside the android folder or in the same folder as your rootfs.img and initrd.gz etc..
Are u running directly off root? I think the builds you are running are expecting to run within an android directory off root?

The problem is very easy. When you have the USB cable connected on an active connection to the PC, most WM-roms will not show the storage card on the phone itself. Try a normal powersource, not a computer, and it should work just fine.
Right now i was looking for a plugin/hack so the storage card stays visible even though there is a computer-connection. I know some roms do this, but can't find the individual files to do so.

check this out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12060926&postcount=35
and better use this pack
Apparently my card isn't recognised by the formatting program :s
hmmm then it might be card fault...
replace it if u have other one,if not keep trying to format it like i stated in instructions
Looks like I may have to accept it isn't going to work , using the new pack once I have the same issue.

card compatibility was not a problem with droid..it was the card formatting prob...alot of other users had the same problem with android not picking up their card including myself...it was corrected by tzacapaca who provided me card format software..with that compatibility issue was resolved.

[Q] unlock problem

I know this has been covered loads, but im not exactly a computer genius but ive been at this for 4 hours now and its getting annoying...
ive installed the LEO70 rom on my HD2 installed chevron and Tom XAP installer and dev. tool kit etc following all the guides i could find...
Now when i go to unlock it in chevron it only gives the option to re-lock so i assume its already unlocked (ive tried re-locking it and un-locking again which failed so i re flashed...thank god for hspl and magloader....)
the problem is when i try to install any of the XAP stuff the tom XAP installer says:-
error connection: make sure phone is unlocked
and make sure usb is connected and zune is connected
yes yes and yes.....
im now super confused and wondering why i bothered lol,
im running XP by the way and havent been able to get an activation code yet....
Am i being stupid or have i done something obviously wrong??
again sorry for posting about a well covered subject but i still cannot find an answer to my problem
thanks for any help
Just to add, now the thing keeps resetting itself hard reset style lost all my contacts etc time and date etc ,
Could it be a duff rom causing all this?
well the resetting is a common SD issue, your card isnt compatible
as for XAPs, i dont use that, i use the appliaction deployer with the development tools, however i do know that if i try and do it without admin mode it will not work
course, your still using XP as well which complicates things a bit and again its not something i use any more so i cant be of any more help im affraid.
your SD issue tho is fixable, you could try formatting the card first in a digital camera or you will need to get a new card.
Go for a class 2 or 4 card, ignore any threads saying "this card works" yes it works for them but perhaps not for you, its very much down to luck
Thanks for the advice bud, I've popped the sd card out and it seems to be more stable bow but my main problem is the unlocking, is there any alternative software to unlock? And what developer loading thing do you use if not Tom xap loader ( I'm having trouble finding alternatives to try
Thanks for the help

Did you get the windows phone developer tools installed?, i think your post said you did, in your start menu you will find a menu for Windows Phone developer Tools, in there you will see an application deployment program
I use that but i have to run it in Admin mode, once its started it allows you to install an XAP to a emulator or a device, select a device (make sure its connected to zune) and locate the XAP.
ive never used that tom installer thing so cant really help you much with that.
as for the SD thing, without an SD it will lag quite a bit, buy what you can afford and dont buy something you wouldnt mind turning in to a tiny wee paper weight, ie dont go folk out for 32GB card when it might not work, 8 seems to be a good size to price card, again stick to a class 2 or 4
oh i forgot to ask, did you use one of the pre-unlocked ROMs out there or did you use the original DFT one?
got the dev tools yes, didnt know where it went though or what it did lol....
i tried it withouth the SD and it still changed the time and stuff all by itself (assuming it crashed in my pocket)
the rom i used is called HD2O_1.04_DFT_LEO70_RELEASE, i dont know how to tell if they were pre unlocked etc (i did look but couldnt see anything) is there any rom you would recommend?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944995
try that one, i dont normally suggest modded ROMs the DFT one is fine, but if someone is having issues with unlocking then they are much easier to get working
right i got another ROM from the development section (ill try that one next if i have problems) loaded that up got it all working with the missus laptop (windows 7 instead of xp) got all my contacts on there and even got the activation code through microsoft support chat.... runs smooth etc now i just need a new sd card (its crashed once already and im running an old 2gb card)
the thing that does my head in with the crashing is that it sets the clock to 00:00 and the date to 1980!!! gotta get a new card soon as i use my phone as my alarm to get up for work... doh....
Thanks for the support though bud, much appreciated,
one last thing, when i get the new card i take it i cant just take one out and put the other in as if i boot without my sd card the phone has no settings or contacts etc..... do you have to copy the card info accross or something??

technically its possible to use a partitioning program to clone the old SD card to the new one, ive not tried it, i think for the sake of simplicity, i would just reinstall it, you will lose you programs and SMS messages, paid for programs are still paid for, but you will need to locate them of the marketplace again.
