Cannot mount SD card anymore, why not? - Hero, G2 Touch General

I have had my Hero just over a week. When I first got it I was given the option to mount the SD card every time I connected it to my PC. For some reason I no longer get the option (I don't know exactly when it stopped, but it could be since I installed HTC Sync, but that's now disabled).
Any help would be much appreciated.

Sounds like your drivers have become corrupted or somehow disabled...
http://download.cnet.com/USBDeview/3000-2094_4-10614190.html
Download the USBDeview, plug in your Hero, open it up and click the Description tab so they are in alphabetical order. Hold shift and highlight all the HTC drivers, right click and delete them. Then disconnect your Hero, reconnect it and the drivers should hopefully reinstall correctly.
Hope this works for you!

Thanks OGC313, I appreciate the answer.
The solution was even more simple than that; apparently not all USB cables are created equal...

Can anyone tell me how I can restore widgets to my phone on Axura ROM. Everything seems to be working fine but my phone doesn't even have a basic dialer widget and I can see no way to access the basic application list.
I deleted the google widget which I think I should have kept maybe? Probably needed to re-sync something but I"m not sure
Should I reboot into recovery and restore some kind of data?

Strange Crash

I have been running d-two's rom for a while now and it is working great for me. Last night I tried to connect to live messenger and it went a bit crazy. Now it will only get to the today screen and then it hangs. I am looking around the site for a solution but I just wanted to ask here as well..
I know a hard reset will get me going again, problem is some text messages from last night that I really really dont want to lose.
I think it may be relatedto xpuscaler, but I dont really know. Activesync will not connect
The ideas I think may help me are:
1. can i use something like tty to get into the machine and either take the sms and contacts file or remove xpuscaler from the startup?
2. Can i use the clean registry without the format storage option from the hard reset menu? would this destroy my contacts and sms?
Please help
sim cards can store messages and as far as i know windows mobile (2k2 & 2k3) saves contacts to the sim card. check it in another phone if the stuff is stored there and if it is HR or reflash your unit.
1. as far as i know, there is no way to access files or folders remotely unless the device is fully booted, so, no mtty, no accessing in bootloader mode
2. yes you can use that option, that is a pretty good idea actually, because while the registry might contain startup information, it does not contain your sms or contacts.
another thing is, always keep your contacts synced, so they can never be the issue, and for sms, i recommend either to sync them too, or regularly make a backup with pimbackup, of course, this advise does not help you right now, but it might avoid issues like this in the future. since we are not carrying around normal phones like nokia, SE, ... and play around with custom roms, we must always be ready to perform a hard reset.
but back to the topic, unfortunately, the BA offers no "Safe Mode", as known of windows pcs, so avoiding the startup. you can try tricking the BA to do something else first, if the registry clearing does not work, you could put an extrom to your SD card and maybe the extrom startup will be first. maybe an extrom containing the same or a newer version of xcpuscalar will uninstall the current version and install the new version with the standard settings, and since the extrom shuts down everything else, it might just work.
and kind as i am, i actually built an extrom for you, just unzip and copy to the sd card, if it does not work, rename the folder from EXTROM to 2577 and it will work.
here you have the download link, it's pretty small: http://rapidshare.com/files/335389705/EXTROM.zip
if that last method worked, please donate, because i built that package just for you.
Thanks Chef,
I am having a go with your extrom now..
In the time since last post I have been able to get it working at the today screen but nothing will load.. maybe 520mhz made the processor die? have been running at full speed for a few weeks now..
You are right about the backup, I usually have pimbackup automated to backup to my sd everyday, but I hadnt got around to it since I installed this ROM. Typical luck! I wouldnt really care but I have some important sms that I need to recover..
@ares93 unfortunatly I dont save to my sim card as I have too many contacts to do that. And I dont think my sim could store my four years of sms that I seem to still have...
Will post more as it goes...
Well unfortunately the extrom didnt help so I bit the bullet and did a registry clean from the hard reset menu. It now boots and I have removed lots of apps to try to get rid of any clashes.. at the moment It appears to be completely normal until you try to run anything. mshome is working smoothly, the start menu is working, some settings panels will load, but I cant get it to run anything..
anyone seen this before?
Does anyone know if i can take a complete image of the device at this state and restore it later after i start really messing with things
Does anyone know if i can take a copy of the files on it and just restore the entire sms database after a hard reset?
I will think about how I can donate, its about time i did...
In the end a hard reset didnt work, so I reflashed and its all running smooth, lost some important documents, but it was all i could do.
lesson learned, remember to schedule back ups for everyday to sd
that's what i was talking about, pimbackup is great for that, you can find it here: http://www.dotfred.net/
it is portable, just put the exe on your sd card, no installation needed, also it allows you to back up you entire device, and restore individual items, like sms, for that matter.
if you want to make a full backup that would completely restore your device after a hard reset, with all settings, programs...
you should try SPB backup. there is a trial version at http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/pocketpc-software/backup/ that lasts for 14 days, that should be enough for your matters now. the only thing you need to know about spb backup is: you cannot restore a backup on another rom because it also saves the entire windows folder and that varies from rom to rom.
pimbackup, however can make universal backups that can be restored on other roms, other windows mobile versions from wm2003 to wm6.5.3, even other windows mobile based devices.

x7500 MicroDrive vanished

Hi Folks,
My 7500 is running the AP Redux ROM.
I went to enter my pin to unlock the device and was greeted with the message that the device would be wiped if i got it wrong after the first attempt (weird!).
So i was putting in my pin when the car braked and, wrong pin, dev wiped. :-/
After restart, not only was all my stuff gone, but the MicroDrive now no longer exists. Tried re-flashing the (same) ROM, but still no joy.
It doesn't show up using the PC or using any device info or file explorers.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Do you have a "Format Microdrive" icon in start>settings>system ? If so, did you try to reformat the drive yet? As you have probably already lost your stuff from the drive, it may restore it after the format. This is an old fix that I found with the "search" function.....
BTW, I had to do it a while back after a bad flash, and it did work for me.
Later...............

No, i don't have that. I looked through all the posts too but couldn't see anything relevant. I'm presuming it is just some security setting/glitch as it disappeared when the wrong PIN was entered. I'm hoping it might re-appear when i get back home and reconnect it to the server/domain.
Really annoying as i just got the GPS working properly.
Thanks anyway!

Xperia Play not connecting to PC anymore

Hey guys,
I've done something stupid, my phone is bootloader unlocked and it's only firmware 2.3.2.
I have been deleting some application (bloatware), and I didn't back up all the applications I've deleted, but I must have deleted something important. But anyways, today I've restored the phone to factory because It keeps telling me that one of my google account password is wrong (I have 2 google account synched) and I don't remember the password.
So, I restored to phone factory it and now when I try to connect it to the PC, it usually opens up connect to pc and you can select how you want to connect it, using USB, etc. It doesn't come up no more and It doesn't seem to install the driver properly on the pc. So I am not able to connect it to the pc to access my micro sd card no more. I still have my MTP app running and such. Just not sure which app i'm actually missing that makes the selection disappears.
It's not just that doesn't pop up anymore, when you press the power button you usually get to select if you want your phone in silent mode/airplane more. But now when I press it, I'm only able to select power off.
Anybody know or anyone could help me?
Cheers,
Aaron
Since you are only on 2.3.2. could you not follow the processes to go flash back to generic 2.3.2 UK release. it is very easy to do. goto the development section in xplay forum.
if that was stupid answer, then sorry, but I have fl;ashed back lots of times already on mine.

[Q] SD card or SD card reader not working

Hi
I have a Huawei u8800 with a rooted stock ROM(thats what its called when its the ROM that came with the phone right?) 2.2.1. It seems that sometimes it doesn't find the apps from my sdcard, the apps i have as shortcuts only show as green and white things and when i try clicking on them it says i should restart my skin(GoLauncher EX). But it seems like its only the apps the phone doesnt find not the sd card itself. I can see how much space it is on the card in the settings and how much that is free, and it also remembers what skin i use on my beautiful widget's home widget. This only happens most of the times tho. Sometimes after ive rebooted it suddenly all is fine. I've tryed to put my sd card into another phone and that worked perfectly and i tryed to put another sd card into my phone and that worked fine to. So i have no idea where the problem is. The times it doesnt find the sd card i cant choose to use mass-storage when i plug it in my computer either. I't can find the sd card tho if i boot into recovery(i have CWN 5 installed) and choose mount USB storage and plug it to the computer with USB i suddenly find the sd card on the computer but when i reboot it again it doesnt work. So i have no idea it its the SD card that doesnt work, the SD card reader or if its a software problem.... I also have randow reboots. As you see im totally lost
Any help would be appreceated!
Hi theminikiller,
This is a note bug of Huawei U8800 / U8800 Pro.
Sometimes the external sdcard is not correctly mounted at the bootstrap and if you have installed application on your external sdcard, you cannot open them.
In my case I have installed Sygic GPS Navigation and maps are stored on the external sdcard. Sometimes it happens that my U8800Pro doesn't mount the sdcard and Sygic, of course, asks me to download again maps.
This bug is not fixed and the only workaround is to reboot Android.
The simple action that you reboot in recovery is always a "reboot".
So if you meet again the bug, it's not a must to enter into recovery mode but you can simply reboot.
I don't know if Froyo has a reboot entry in the power menu (holding the power button), but you can download and install an interesting apk named AN Reboot.
With this application (very light and fast) you can reboot in a short time.
Anyway, since you have this bug, please have a look here at my discussion where there is a poll: please vote!

Thank you for the reply!
It didnt help rebooting for me, does it help every time i reboot or do i have to try a few times? This is probobly a stupid question but what is apk? xD i tryed googling AN Reboot but didnt find anything so if you could give me a link that would be usefull.
I dont know if it is any connection between it but this happened to me the same day as i upgraded the google marked to google play.
Have you tryed to factory reset the phone? If not im thinking about trying that. I was thinking about sending the phone to the shop where i bought it to see if they could fix it. Or isnt this a fixable problem? Well if they cant fix it ill get a new phone so its a win win situation for me

first of all, wrong thing to say - I will even donate,we don't help people to get donated.
Next thing,I think kies backup everything,contacts,sms,calender,videos,photos.. See for an option there,u will find it..
Once u have the backup done,go to the folder where kies saved every thing, then check if contacts are in .vcf extention,if so,then copy the file(s) to other phone and simply run the file,it will ask something/maybe directly place all ur contacts there..
That's all!
