Hi Is it possible to have an advent vega section as i believe this device is now popular and would help to provide a wider audiance to this device.
Thankyou.
Where do you find this sucker?
Sent from my Elegant-Steal using XDA App
it is the european version of the ux100 from korea, avaliable from pcworld,
also paul over at modaco has been doing lots of work on this internet tablet.
Awesome although is this available in the States?
A link if anyone wants it?

Although they seem to be out of stock they reccomend the Galaxy Tab lol
Supporting this proposal
Waiting for these to come back into stock - they are the most powerful and well specified tabs available in the UK at this price point (around half a Galaxy Tab and similar to the Archos 101).
Supporting this device in this forum would be good news in my view.
Yeah I'd like to see a section as well. I love my Vega, It's great...Even better after Paul's mods from Modaco to install Google APK's.
Please can we have a new section Mr Mod?

Just got my hands on one, its not a bad tablet at stock, but with the modoco rom its a great tablet for the price!
Should be getting mine on Saturday!
Advent Vega a.k.a POV mobii
Great with Modaco's Rom installed.
Back in Stock
Back in stock at pc world. Just ordered mine, says 3-5 days delivery. Hopefully should be here for Christmas
Just ordered mine too. Got an email saying expect in 3 working days.
Been showing stock for most of the day now, so looks like supply problems may be resolved.
Shame that's not the case for the Notion Ink Adam Ordered one of those too, but may just cancel if I don't see a real production device soon.
A bit more expensive (£360 after vat and shipping for LCD and 3G version), but has more memory, better camera etc.
If it all comes through, then may end up having 2 Android tablets in the family (along with 2 android phones).

You might be waiting a while for the norton ink adam. The shipping date keeps getting pushed back. Screen looks good and the extra ram can only be a good thing. But at only £250, the advent vega still looks like a good bet.

+1 For this - I prefer to post any work I do on XDA rather than Modaco. I for one will be looking at getting a custom ROM out for this. I have emailed an admin to ask
I've just got myself one of these beauties and would love to see xda-devs work it's magic.

+1 for the Advent Vega / POV Mobii Forum
This tablet looks like it's going to have quite a large userbase, so it should be pretty busy (especially as it's a little ..er.. quirky and need lots of hacking to get it running smoothly).
Come on admin, we want a advent vega section. You have one for the norton ink adam, as far as i am aware this device is not even available!! The vega has been out for a good six weeks (although hard to get hold of) and need lots of work from the great devs here on xda dev, to open the full potential of this fantastic device.
Who else has one? We'll add, we just need to hear from more of you!

I know a few guys that have bought the Vega. Seems pretty popular in the UK, as it was sold out from the sole distributor for a little while.
So I picked up a A500 yesterday off craigslist for $300.00 and wow! Coming from the viewsonic gtab this tablet is soooo nice! Absolutely loving it.
Honestly I'm not overly concerned that I do not see a lot of dev support for this tablet but I'm just curious on why not much is going on with it? Is it due to the locked bootloader?
For the price of this tablet and the build quality its a huge win in my book over other tablets.
Now I just wish someone would buy my gtab off craigslist

We just got a custom (partially working) recovery yesterday, so patience is still a virtue. Thus, no development (other than focusing on how to get past the bootloader issue) has really begun to occur yet.
also no kernel released from acer so far as i can tell.

Yeah, and there is that lousy fact too. Wish they would get it out already.
It seems to me being a long time android user on the cell phone side that manufacturers keeping their system open and unlocked is nothing but a plus for them. The geek community is massive on android and the more open it is the more geeks will flock to that device (hint hint Acer)
But none the less this is a fabulous tablet!

The locked bootloader is one (major) issue, although it appears that some of the devs have recently worked around it. I think the promised and impending 3.1 official update is another factor; once 3.1 is available I'd expect to see a bit more activity. Not a lot of purpose working on fixes for a version about to be replaced.
Hi,
I have xoom wifi only. I bought it from staples and today when I went to staples I saw galaxy tab 10.1 as well as touchpad. My requirement is very simple. I want to give this to my parents, so that they can have a video chat with me. I was initially disappointed because skype did not have video chat available, then after reading some forums I was able to configure gtalk.
Another issue of wifi connectivity came up after 3.2 update. I guess that can be resolved after configuring some static ip. That I will try on xoom tonight.
Now I searched some forums in regards to which one is better and I could not get to conclusion. So need help from pros.. I do not want to spend more money than $499. Please help because I need to make my decision in few days as my 14 days will be over in next couple of days.
Thanks again..
Go back to the store and try them all out. It's the only way to know which you prefer. They're basically all the same software and internal hardware so really it's just the feel of the thing you want to find out.
Touchpad
The Touchpad uses the WebOS....
Don't forget to use the Staples $100 off tablets printable coupon that you can find here:

if you're parents aren't techies, then go with xoom. that way you're familiar with the device and they can run to you for tech support.

what can i say... xoom in terms of material is the best one. but we a hole in modding for the moment...
Samsung community seems to be more active....
what should be my dream. have my xoom for years and have the possibilities to have dedicate launcher... sbs one is very cool and have the possibility to mount web os on it....

I was getting mixed up with the new Lenovo one
I'm disappointed that there isn't much development going on for the Thrive. I'm also curious as to why? I bought one after doing major comparison between all the tablets available and I chose this one because of the specs, size and of course, capabilities. My friends have other tablets, such as the Acer 500 and I rooted it last night for him and it's nowhere near the speed of my Thrive.
I guess I'll just have to wait it out but damn, I want a new ROM on this already. Just having it rooted isn't enough to take advantage of even a fraction of the capabilities this thing has.

I think a lot of it has to do with the lack of developers having the device. I think if I had one I would probably be putting something together - but I have the Transformer - and no time at the present.
There has been ROM development, just not here.
Google thrive forums to see.

I did and not too impressed with what I've seen. I think there are what, 3 ROMS available? I'm going to keep this but get the Acer A500 I think since it has tons of development right now.
Thanks for the replies!

I was in the same boat so to say my first choice was the thrive I happily bought it after much consideration of other tablets on the market at the time .. once I got home I enjoyed the speed and the thrives native apps but I went to XDA to se what was popping and nothing lol a dead tablet on the development front.so I tried the Asus liked the screen but didn't want to pat $160 u.s. for USB and extra battery life so i bought my Iconia and ill tell ya what I freaking love it besides some problems with Gameloft apps but usb HDMI micro SD I'm happy and amazing veiwing angles!

Well I have the thrive and it is rooted and has a OC Kernel and Dalepl's stock rom, am I sorry that it does not have some great rom on it, NO it is quite functional and is twice the tablet of any Acer Iconia, and just to be clear I HAVE HAD a Acer Iconia, Motorola Xoom and the Almighty Samsung and all lasted less than a week before returning them, have had my thrive since release and could not be more pleased, and all of the substandard tabs are gone!!!!
I waited in line on black Friday for the Asus transformer because it has a large development scene, but they ran out and I ended up with the Toshiba for $30 more. I've got to day, for what I paid, the Toshiba is cool, but I wish I could get some cyanogen on here.

same here. Love the size and Honeycomb. Have a Samsung galaxy tab 7" and wanted something bigger and newer. Made the mistake of upgrading to 3.2.1 and was hoping the great minds of XDA have figured out how to downgrade to root. Kind of disappointed on the development but maybe we weren't the only ones who went to buy the Transformer and ended up with the thrive. Only time will tell.
Don't know why this thing isn't more popular. Just got mine the other day. So far I love the fact that I can plug in the dongle from my computers wireless keyboard and an hdmi cable to my big screen tv, pair it to a wii remote and have at it. Absolutely awesome!

There is a lot more for it but not on this Forum, I would just say Google the thrive and the other forum will come up in search results and yes there is plenty of Development going on. I cannot put the forum's name here because they will just delete the name if not my complete post.
Yeah, I'm a recovering rom-flasher myself, and I was initially kind of bummed out at the fact that there are not dozens of choices for ROMs, but then I got to asking myself "Why?"
I have Cyanogen 7 on my HTC LEO, and I can flash a new version every week if I want, or if I get tired of that, there are many other ROMS I can choose from. But for the Tablet, I'm looking for a stable portable platform to read forums, e-books, maybe play a few games. The Thrive fills that bill, and the hardware is more versatile than most other tablets out there. I rooted the stock 3.1 ROM so I could use Titanium Backup and nmap, and I don't think I'll upgrade until Ice Cream Sandwich comes out, if then. 3.2 seems to be mostly for 7" tablets so it doesn't interest me much.
I see that there are other ROMS on those "unmetnionable" forums, but I've learned over the years to trust the developers and forums at XDA so I don't really want to take a chance elsewhere.
That's my two cents' worth and if you don't agree, I applaud you - enjoy flashing whatever you can find - it's a lot of fun, and I will continue to do so on my HTC phone, but not on my tablet. Just my opinion.

I think it will be picking up speed soon. Compared to other tablets on the market right now, spec wise, the Thrive is pure ownage! I still have mine and use it frequently. I'm cool with just having it rooted for now so we'll see what happens in the future for development.

Well then you will lose out because the Thrive on XDA will soon be dead and those of us on the other forum will have everything we want on our tablets and thank god that crap cyanogen is not on the thrive!!!!
Performance! But....
I have purchased two of these devices.... One 16G and one 8G. Both ate verymooth and perform very nicely.
Even though Im enjoying the units, I still believe that there should become level of focus on these units. Toshiba now has these units up to V3.3 and have things locked down tightly. Though I believe they did a nice job on the stock ROM, I still believe there should be a root option to admonisyer my personal device. I also believe that the collective brain trust of XDA could produce a ROM that shows the true capability of this hardware platform.
One of the coolest features of the 10.1 inch units is that it has a user replacable battery! How cool is that??
Im not a programmer and barely qualify as a script kiddie in this day of age. So like others on this forum, I have to wait for those with the knowledge and motivation to provide the future path and direction.

I agree! This tablet rocks. I've have had the Kindle Fire, Acer A100, Nook Tablet, and now this and I love it. I will be doing some custom work.
Great! Custom work is what we need to round off this thing. Do you do kernel work by chance?
I have the Thrive 10.1" and Thrive 7" and if you have looked at my work, I mainly keep it stock. That is what I like and I have a lot of people who like that. If you need base ROMs, feel free to download and use mine.
By the way, sorry if you thought you affended me. Was not wanting you to think that. Just wanted you to know why I do what I do and where. Cheers
Hi y'all!
So I just bought myself an A7+. I'd looked at the original A7 last year, but the lack of multi-touch pushed me away and in to the arms of a Dell Streak 7. Eventually I moved to an Acer A500 because I badly wanted a USB host port.
The A500 was great but 10" was a bit akward for me.
I started looking around for a new tablet. Smaller but with a USB port and preferably a wsvga or better screen.
Eventually I settled on the Archos 80. I had good memories of my first Android device, an old Archos 5, and it seemed to fit my needs. But still, $350 was a fair bit of cash, so I decided to wait a couple more months.
But then I found the Elocity A7+ for only $100.
Well, never one to turn down a deal, I snagged it.
So the hour or so of "shiny new device time" was fun, but then it was time to get down to work.
The next half day of trying to get the tablet running "right" was pure frustration, but eventually I got the market running well and my settings tweaked nicely.
Well, long story short, I'm really enjoying the tablet mow, in spite of FroYo and I've decided to put my Archos plans on ice for the time being.
I modified the market setup that's listed in the "app" section here, removing no-essential bloat and adding a modified build.prop for more apps availability in the market.
It's still a work in progress, but I'll post what I have so far shortly.
I'm also going to write a post of my other mods too.
This is a really great device, so I'm hoping I can help make it even better.

Glad to see someone else taking an interest in these cool tablets
Look forward to your insight!
I'm getting mine in a few days from FactoryDirect.ca . $109
Can you point me to the links for setting up Market access. This will be tricky without a tether. (that's how I did it with my Velocity Cruz)
