[Q][Devs]Mytouch 4g (Remaining Devs) - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As we have seen recently most of the Devs or people with knowledge have jumped ship to another device. Im 100% this device is far from dead yet. Mostly every Dev left is working on ICS my question to all of you that remain here is WHO ARE YOU? WHO IS STILL AMONG US? I bring this question because there are a lot of regulars that frequent these Mytouch 4g forums and I'm not a Dev in any way shape or form, but I kno a lot of the Mytouch and as I go about helping with this big project bringing Sense 3.6 with the help of old Devs that no longer are among us (Febycv, eVil D, memnoc, LorD ClockaN, proxuser, QD2DC, capychimp) just to name a few that have or are helping me with this Ics Sense 3.6 I wanted the help of people that ARE among us and WILL enjoy it. So who here in the Mytouch 4g is a DEV? Who here knows knowledge of anything that has to do to with the MyTouch? My opinion and I'm 100% sure that if we all work together within our own community we can revive this phone for us who still remain here. I kno most of you guys but not all of you it would be nice to either post if your a Dev or what is it that you bring to the table. That way it would be easier to go to that one person if anybody has a problem with a Rom, kernel, bugs, etc...
I kno Team Inferno is still among us (Mr. Highway, saranhai, invasion, sckboy78)

"Project of bringing Sense 3.6" can progress in one of 2 ways:
1) Working in parallel with devs of other devices (namely Desire HD), doing the same job in parallel, and sometimes sharing the results.
2) Waiting for a more or less complete product, and working on porting it.
The current leaked dev build of Sense 3.6 isn't worth porting. I saw it on Sensation, and I don't think a build that runs 20 lines of logcat each time you just touch the screen, is worth much for a stable ROM. But it's good to develop the skill for porting a normal build when it arrives, I guess...
Plus, I remember the state of ROMs for MT4G before it had an official GB kernel. There was not a single GB ROM without major issues, and at least some of the devs working on them were much more experienced. I'm afraid that this will be exactly the same situation with ICS.

I agree 100% with you but that's the same thing I though about ICS coming to Mytouch and thanks to Feb we are able to experience it. There are actually alot more people than I though that prefer Sense over Cm based Roms. Yes its a challenge but to me and maybe other Devs they like the challenge theirs no going back now if we give up our phone will die and be stuck on GB. Yes its hard I've been working on a ics sense kernel for 3 days now and I'm still going. You shouldn't put people down to stop trying or say it ain't worth it because I'm pretty sure you will be one of the first to test it even if all u can do is make calls and nothing else.

Actually, no. I didn't bother checking even one of the current crop of ICS ROMs, because - 1) I dislike ICS, without Sense it looks and feels like crap; 2) I want my phone to function fully, and not having WiFi/BT/Camera not working or partially working.
But I realize that I'm most likely a minority.

Androidinsomnia is all here and present.

Believe it or not, I agree. AOSP ICS is ugly to me, but if it will help me learn more, I might as well try it. ICS + Sense looks really great. And I agree with the functionality parts...why use a ROM without WiFi/Camera...(I have never used BT once).

Not ugly, just not as good as I expected it to be. If maybe some icons and the dock was changed a little, maybe I would like it. But as of now, pure ICS is not my favorite type of android.

while i do agree that Sense is way better than AOSP, i think that Google finally improved their UI with ICS...
previous versions of Android all looked like crap. (no offense to anyone..)
but ICS actually looks pretty good. while i would still go for Sense, i have to say that this time around, Google finally improved. So way to go Google.
hope jellybean will be even better

The phone is only 12 days old guys. Have some patience.
I'm sure someone in the CM team will get their hands on a MT4G soon. If not, then I'm sure another capable dev will figure out how to port CM6 over to our phone.
Honestly, I'd be down to donate $5 to the CM team along with the OP. We'd just have to hope 88 other MT4G owners will do the same.
http://twitpic.com/35seph
CM6 for the MT4G is already built and bugs are being worked out. (Wifi, Camera, & BT)
Once those things are fixed we should be seeing a RC.
CM is working on a rom...the wiki page has a link for the glacier, there is just nothing on it yet...give him time...
You would be a fool to go back to the wobbly hinge G2 just because they have a ROM. This is a much superior device and they will come. Just be patient.
Some of you guys are being stupidly impatient. You can't expect a bunch of ROM's for a phone that achieved a permanent root just a few days ago.
Development is going fairly quickly anyway. Kmobs of CM already has a working build for the MT4G. That's pretty damn good and since in many ways the G2 is similar to the MT4G, things should go even faster.
Look at the G2 development forum, they've already got the G2 ROM ported to the MT4G. Another example would be VISIONary. It worked for the MT4G before it was even meant to.
Either way, MT4G users have no room to complain. The phone I came from, the Vibrant. It still doesn't have CM or a stock Android 2.2. Even the ROM's it has now took at least a month to perfect.

I hope I feel the same about my MyTouch when it gets here Wed (if UPS doesn't reschedule, like they always do). Right now, the Android that all other phones are compared to is the Evo (I have one). But in my town, which has 3 sprint towers... 2 of them have been down for 4 months and I finally gave up and switched to TMO. I hate giving up my Evo (rooted, custom ROm, custom Kernel)... there is so much support for it from software to accessories (I have the 3500 mah battery from Seidio). I'm going to miss all the goodies for the Evo while waiting for all the support to catch up to the MT4G (which it might and might not... we never know how much an individual phone will be supported). I am so surprised how the G2 got supported. Sliding keyboard phones don't usually get that much support because they are so flimsy. Let's hope this MT4G has as much appeal to the developers as it did to us! If I don't like it, I'll have the option of going to ATT sometime in Dec when they finish switching over from Alltel.

This is key, We need to show the developers some love here $$$$, Devs will work on devices that produce the highest returns=$$$$, There are so many EVO owners that producing a quality rom will have excellent returns=$$$$, The upside is with the hardware of our devices CM has the potential of creating thier greatest Rom to date. Lets be patient and get a bug free release, Instead of a premature release full with bugs.

Fascinate development, dead?

Update: development is not dead, JT has resurrected it...Cm7 is amazing!
Forgive me if upset a few people with this post, but is it me or has the dev scene for this device died?
I remember the old school days when I had a G1 on T-mobile, we had a new rom practically every other day! I would hate to not to give credit to the amazing devs we have for our devices like JT and company but as of late things seem have died .
I remember a few months back devs were saying, we cant do much because we dont have froyo source...now we do and the scene looks identical. I pruchased this device because of its "raw power" which back in November was unrivaled, but looking at the vibrant forums and the epic there's tons of roms to choose from, VZW gets no love.
Before you guys get upset and some of my remarks, please understand my POV. Lastly, I realize that devs dont get payed to do this and do it as hobby thus I have no reason to complain, so this is just an opinion....let me know if you guys feel the same or not......
There's still a ton of development work, just nothing totally new recently. Everybody seems to be working on what is already there, just fixing and updating and whatnot.
Sent from my CM7 SCH-i500
What we are waiting on now is GB source.... LOL
In short you are pretty much right. Mostly everyone has moved on to bigger and better things. Now that all the spring goodies are coming out there are less people here to develop.
What we are waiting for really is someone to step up to the plate and take over. The devs that we did have provided a great foundation for someone else to work on.
That being said... the phone is still overpriced for what it is and Samsung has provided some practically unusable code to start with, from my understanding at least.
I can see the Vibrant forum being busy, as they have CM7 now, and likely other AOSP and AOSP based ROMs now, plus TW based ROMs. Not sure about the Epic, but I think they have a semi-functional AOSP base as well, and the Nexus S going the Sprint probably helped them out significantly. However, we're stuck basically with what Samsung gave us. The source did help out significantly for kernels, as it gave us something to work from that we didn't have before. However, the platform source did nothing. Also, there are only so many ways you can configure a ROM based on the stock software. If jt and kaos can get the last few pieces of CM7 fixed up, I'm sure you'd see development take off again, but until that happens, or until we get a new release or source, it will likely be semi-stagnant around here.
JT is working on cm7 I assure you. Latest build was today released in irc. Based on .35 kernel. Everything works but radio and sensors. So that's really good work if you ask me. He'll get it up to speed, jt is a very clever Guy.

Yeah, if camera and MMS work, and he gets the sensors/radio working, the man is a God, a MACHINE. Well, I look forward to that.
Evil fascination came out with a new build today, he is also planning on a bunch of themes for it (2 released already, 5 more to come I think)
well this phone technically is out dated in terms of whats come out since. and we finally have workjng froyo roms which is what all the hype was about. even with home computers you cant keep updating, eventually things dont matching up. just like with these phones. im happy with my fascinate and everything thats been released.

Evil Fascination had an update tonight. It runs fantastic and the theme is awesome. Im sure the community rom is going to have a nice update soon to.
The devs for this phone have been fantastic, they made this phone worth having even when it seemed like 2.2 would never see the light of day.
After the experience I have had with the fascinate my next phone will for sure be a nexus. Even if it means jumping ship to a different carrier.

development is relative...we never had a ton of kernels/roms/mods etc because we have a relatively small community
we still have several source built kernels, 2 versions of cm7 (one of which sounds like its advancing nicely) and several touchwiz based roms
if you want to really step back and look at things, we have mods from sbrissen no other phone has (or at least had first as they kang him quickly)...
we have miuiwiz which is a feat never done before (getting miui launcher working on anything but miui)
so for those that just sit around and wait for stuff to be released so they can flash every 5 minutes...too bad...go get a more popular phone so you can flash the kanged rom after kanged rom every day
or you can actually learn to do stuff for yourself like many have

^^^^exactly.
If you sit back and enjoy your phone with the new roms when they do come out, waiting for updates and new stuff comes quicker than you realize. Hmmm, I wonder who told me to enjoy what I have a while ago.... and in all honesty, do you really think the fascinate is out dated? My phone STILL runs circles around my bro in laws tbolt. And if anyone questions our devs ability....have you herd of punk kaos? Or jt1134? Or adrynalyn? Or sbrissen? If you are tired of waiting, go back to stock....you will realize what they have done for our phones.
I never once doubted their ability. Like I said in the OP , we a are lucky to have what we got. My point was that things seem to have died down, not sure if its the phone or the lack of interest. Back in november this was androids flagship device, and, I purchased it thinking that with its hardware and our bright developers, it was going to be a beast. I'm proud of the work done but until a fully working aosp like cm7 comes out, I dontt think ill be fascinated. All the touchwiz roms are fine but slow down eventually. Just expressing my opinion fellas.

@Nitsuj17 this is a classic case of something that all people struggle with: a selfish nature. We, as people, are never really satisfied with anything. I doubt even a FULLY functional CM7/GingerMIUI would please people. It's just our nature. We are insatiable. This is not a flame or an attack of the OP, it's just simply an indictment of all people, myself included. Just my $0.02.

Is it me or is Epic development almst dead?

Is it just me or is Epic development almost dead?
Two-three months ago there was CM6,MIUI,CM7 and more original roms in the works, what happened?
Yeah i know that for CM7 they are waiting for official GB to drop but what about CM6 that was 90 percent finished and MIUI that was almost finished?
I know that we still got roms but most of them with exception of ACS and few others are mostly remixes and tweaks of stock rom.
Our Epic is way behind Vibrant,Fascinate and Captivate.
It's just you. Don't knock what the amazing developers have done for us. We have plenty of roms and we will have plenty once gingerbread drops.
I agree. Feel free to learn how to dev, though. You won't sound like a detractor from the forum.

i just dont want to leave sprint either. its not just the unlimited data, low prices and yearly upgrade. i just like them. i live in kc mo. right across the state line from sprint worl headquarters. we have a 18000 person arena in downtown called the sprint center. sprint logos are every where. we have the sprint cu at the kansas speedway. i mean it is my home town carrier.
shane6374 said:
Big part of it seeming smaller is that the only carrier with the Epic is sprint. Android roms aren't like winmo roms where all you had to do was provision a rom to a particular carrier.

good point
i got more thanks tomorrow.
This is my first experience with custom ROMs and I for one am very content with the amount of development for the Epic. I have looked at other forums and yes there may be a larger following, or more talk about development, but a lot of it seems to be garbage. I have flashed and used a few different ROMs now and they are all solid with few if any bugs. SRF is what I am running now and I have not found a single functionality issue. I also love that the Epic devs continue to improve their product instead of releasing some piece of crap ROM and never touching it again. Also the relatively smaller quantity of development makes things like qbking's videos possible and help all of us learn to better utilize the phones potential.
I say cheers to the devs for what they do and the time they put in! I could never accomplish even a portion of what they do. Thanks guys!

Quality over quantity anyday our devs cook up some amazing stuff for us.
Sent from my SPH-D700
I love this phone. That is all.
Sent from Godot's place.
we have several quality ROMs and Themes to choose from
It should come as no surprise really. There are 3 main reasons why it may seem development is slow:
Small community. Meaning that our sample set in which developers are drawn is smaller. Thankfully, this phone was top notch in hardware when it came out, so it increased our chances of having very talented developers since it naturally drew people who seriously appreciated hardware. Hence, why we have a small number of developers but they're all very very good at what they do. It could have ended up with a small number AND not a lot of quality.
Touchwiz. What I mean by this is that we're still waiting on a fully functional AOSP based rom, with CM7 being the closest to completion. Without it, all there is to develop on is touchwiz, and we've pretty much exhausted what we can do with it (so far). Once there's one ROM on AOSP, that allows for more ROMs to be developed on AOSP. Plus, the completion of CM7 could very well attract developers who prefer to develop on AOSP to try a couple projects, and have simply been waiting for CM to be completed. This all ties in with reason number 3.
Froyo. Like touchwiz, we've pretty much done all we can do with it. With the release of gingerbread, it'll open up a whole new opportunity to develop. Remember, we went through the same thing towards the end of eclair's life. Not a whole lot of development, and everyone really just waiting for froyo. The difference was, however, that everyone was itching SO BAD for froyo that a lot of projects were done on DK28; we were truly behind the times then, and so even the developers were willing to play with a leak. Not so much now; we're not AS behind the curve considering there are still few phones (besides newly released ones) on gingerbread. This, too, is much like the anticipation of an AOSP precedent as mentioned previously: it's quite possible that there are potential developers who are simply waiting for gingerbread to be released before coming to this phone.

can anyone explain to me how the mytouch slide 4g has cm7 and overclocked gingerbread kernels with out gb source?

I don't know, but the easiest explanations are:
More developers? Better chance to figure out the kernel drivers on their own.
It's made by HTC? It's pretty much a known that samsungs kernel drivers are always wacky, and in general, what one phone has doesn't neccessarily help with another. With HTC, their kernel drivers are a little more consistent across phones and it's easier to make things work by borrowing and tweaking.
Linux loaded modules? Don't know if it's relevant, but it's possible to use these to overclock a phone in a round-about way.
There's something that really needs to be laid to rest here regarding the arguement that everybody gives saying "we didn't get cm6 when froyo source was released, so how are we gonna get cm7 just because of gingerbread source?" Two reasons:
One: we only had one dev working on it, noobnl. Now we have a TEAM. And each on is just as if not more talented than him.
Two: we didn't have another device to kang any AOSP driver source from. With cm7, our team borrowed what they could from the nexus s 4g. And rest assured, they DID get a little use out of it.

It's the same phone as every other HTC phone, once they get something working on one all the others get it pretty quickly.

then by the same logic, since the i9000 has gb, we should too? the only difference in the mytouch4g and most other htc phones is a keyboard and 4g. sound familiar?

Waiting for Cm7 and miui

Thanks for all the devs helping us with all the 2.3.4 rom based off the official rom. It runs well. However, I am waiting for to dev who can either bring cm7 or mini to our rom. Right now, there is just too much moto blur bloat on the official rom.

As far as i know, CM team is trying to make a CM port to our phone. But as you may know, the hardware in our phone is different than the versions they have now for other phones (for example, the fingerprint scanner). They doesnt have any 2.3.4 motorola source code to have as a base neither....
They will never come

Huh. Go on then, take the source and start-a-porting. How about this: don't ever expect anything to come. There is a chance it will never come, although sense the CM team is working on it I suspect it will arrive some day. Their one rule is to not ask for etas, so please stop asking where cm7 is.

Learn to read, no one asked where it was OP simply stated that they are waiting for it as opposed to just messing with the current roms

I totally agree we shouldn't take the devs for granted (especially those of us just savvy enough to use the roms, but not enough to help make 'em at all).
However, last year Android was at like 16% market share, and CM could support basically every unlocked phone all the way back to the G1. This year Android market share is at almost 40% with phone dropping at an accelerating rate. I'm sure it helps them decide which phones to support to know where there is interest.
I hope it doesn't hurt anyone at CM's feelings for me to say that I love CM, and have missed it ever since I left my G1 for the Atrix, and I too will be holding off on flashing roms for now in hopes that CM will add us to the supported device list.

Where can we get atleast 100% confirmation that cm7 is in fact being worked on. No he said she said stuff. Let's see an actual post from one of the devs please. I think that would make people feel A LOT better

I would like to see this too, assuming such confirmation even exists...I've been watching aliasxerog's twitter periodically, as it seemed he and a team of a few other guys were given the unlocked Atrix to work on? As recently as like last week or something, he had made comments about working on a kernel.
However recently it seems he has been looking for a DX2...nothing like ditching work on one phone partway through! Hopefully this isn't really the case lol, and he is still at work on CM7 or something!
if you search for CM7 on the Atrix foruns you'll see a post with status updates on the port. No "he said she said".

Got a link to that post??
i definite don't take devs for granted. While I don't have the the technical chops to port myself, I donated to several projects .
While the current official rom works very well, I believe atrix can be even better without all the extra bloat . I think we have good chance to see miui official support for our phone because the phone is being heavily advertised by the china cellular providers.

Come on guys, if you don't pro-actively "wait for it", things will be much easier for you
It will take time for the first build to emerge, and even more times before all the bugs get fixed. Just subscribe to aliaxesrog twitter and wait for your day.
To be clear, you don't have to be a existing CM7 Dev to start print CM7, it's open source.
When a developer gets a port working for a specific device, if they can merge the unique code for that device back into CM7 mainline, it becomes an officially supported device and that developer becomes a recognized maintainer.
We have a few people working on CM7, AliasXerog, SamCripp and I'm reaching out to others, but as no Moto devices have been as unlocked as the Atrix since the OG Droid people are starting from scratch.

I really want to donate, and i didn't have more a atrix (mine got dropped on toilet), but just when community got somethig good and working.

The Cyanogen devs have said, repeatedly, that what devices they develop CyanogenMod for is dependent on what devices they personally have or have access to. That being said, there is a thread on the Unofficial Ports section of their forum, but it's almost exclusively repetitions of "the bootloader is unlocked, can we get a port now please?"
For the more impatient members of the angry mob, it's worth remembering that the bootloader hasn't been unlocked for all that long.

Looks interesting will look and see where it goes in the future I agree tho HTC n Sprint are pretty good downfall of HTC is their lack of the next big phone on sprint atm EVO 3d was a little of a flop nice phone could have been better. Will have to see how they do with ics and getting it out.

Yeah HTC has some cool devices coming out, but Sprint is missing out. They need to give Sprint a Beats phone, hopefully with the Bliss ROM on it I love that UI and the new Rosie has to be my all time favorite.
I think they will work magic with ICS, Sense overlay would be nice especially with what I have been seeing of 3.5!
Looks kind of cool I read just about anything that has anything to do with android so I follow and see where it goes.

lots of people seem to have mixed results with beats and with ICS i think the sense overlay while it looks nice ICS looks good its the actual first stock android look that is nice.It would be nice if they cut back sense or got rid of their launcher anyways. the main reason companys created overlays was due to the lack of smoothness android didnt have. google really outdid their self with ICS imo its what 2.3 and 3.0 should have been.

I think it'd be good, because I flashed it for my friend on their thunderbolts, and I was actually fairly impressed. I think putting some light back on them would be good cuz for the evo, when it first got rooted, they were the place to be, but now with more developers, more people are spread out, but they're great roms for aosp.
I actually just flashed it about 2 hours ago. I'm impressed with it; has the correct pngs, flows nicely, even without a reboot.

Nice! How exciting! I am working on a review of the Runny bliss Hybrid this week and then I will do OMFGB next week.
I am looking to do a ROM a week that way I can use it the whole week and give a more well rounded opinion. I am currently doing everything as is, with no kernel or other tweaks just the ROM as it comes. I will flash Gapps of course and my normal apps...
I am glad to have caught your attention and hope to bring some more users to your fabulous ROM, which I have been know to use from time to time. Are you running the latest nightly or the stable?

Oh no...i'm not teh haxxorxz , who did them rom. I did my own once, but that was private and a while ago. xp. Though he does make reat roms.
But doing the rom as is, no mods is the bets, because you can accurately reflect battery life, speed, ect.
Oh man my mistake... Got a little excited. Haha, glad to be building a fan base though

Yea they would be, which is why a lot of people using them partition their sd cards, to save some internal space, but they can be used un-partitioned.
They have the ROM's partitioned so its all in the "ROM memory" there its actually internal memory free.
I ran it for a whole week with no mods at all and it was smooth very rare lag and no crashes. Although I only use about 40 apps, there its plenty of memory, but moving cache to sd and apps to sd helps.
