it really isnt that "normal". it usually occurs every 11 years but this year, they expect this explosion on the sun to be twice as big as in previous years. not only that, but our electronic use has at least doubled and this storm could and might wipe out certain satellites and cell signals and other such stuff. a lot of companies are being pushed to have backup systems now, just because of this exact series of events.

It does not happen "every 11 years". Solar flares are constant and random. The magnitude of many do not reach levels to effect us, but solar flares are a perfectly normal occurrence.

Only misinformed doomsday theorists are "predicting" the size of solar flares/activity. NASA/NOAA is very clear that they cannot predict solar activity. To solar cycle does average 11 years with increased activity in the middle. Geomagnetic storms impact the ionosphere which low frequency, long range, radio signals bounce off of. Short of losing power to cell phone towers cell phone communications (high frequency, short range [ie: line of sight]) will not be impacted.
Here's some quotes from another new article, wikipedia and my own knowledge and reference material from being a license HAM radio operator...
---
"Since Sunday, the sun has launched a barrage of flares, particle radiation and blobs of plasma that have disrupted some radio communications and forced airlines to reroute northern flights. Scientists expected the solar storm — the most intense since 2006 — to intensify Thursday morning as the latest blast pushes past Earth."
"The resulting geomagnetic storm rated a moderate “2” on NOAA’s five-point scale."
"After a years-long quiet period, solar activity is ramping up and is expected to peak in May 2013. For reasons unknown, solar activity cycles every 11 to 12 years."
"Intense solar activity can damage transformers and other power grid equipment. In 1989, a strong solar storm destroyed a transformer in Quebec and left 6 million people without power for nine hours." (There have also been larger flares/storms since then with no power outages or problems [ie: Nov 4, 2003 when the largest ever recorded flare occurred and a long range radio blackout did happen for the day])
*** Above was from news articles, below is from my existing knowledge and wikipedia ***
Both radio and GPS are impacted by solar storms because the radiation/magnetic field associated with a solar storm impact the ionosphere. The ionosphere is a layer of the atmosphere that low frequency radio waves reflect off of for long distances. Commercial radio/TV is generally not impacted by solar storms because they are high frequency and short range.
So in short it is a good idea that planes take caution during solar storms because their radio and navigation systems could be impacted which may lead to a navigation problem resulting in a crash (but there is no chance the plane would just stop working and fall out of the sky). Power systems can also potentially be impacted but it's unlikely and there are safety precautions that are meant to prevent chain reaction failures.
Definitely an interesting storm but nothing to be scared of Everyone is free to be paranoid of whatever they want but I wish it was against the law to spread FUD (then again where would "news" organizations be without FUD )

Well, let's see... on three occasions that I fornicated with my wife, three offspring came out nine months later. I was there during all three of said occasions, and delivered the middle offspring (the gamer) myself.
So pretty sure, yes.
Bumping my own thread, I'm a bad man.
Your replies were very witty, and I laughed incessantly.
However, I'm right and you're all wrong. All these lavasoft games - Restaurant/Farm/Zoo Story really do drain battery quickly. A combo of wifi, bright colours and eager progeny is hardly conducive to prolonged battery life. They certainly drain it quicker than my boy's other games (e.g., Cut The Rope, Angry Birds).

If I would have kids, I wouldn't want them to surf the Internet alone. There's too much stuff out there inappropriate for children.
My kids would get an old phone, which you can only use for talking and sending text messages and for gaming a Nintendo DS.

I don't let them surf the net alone, under any circumstances. My middle kid is 7, and he's not getting a mobile before he's 10 (there's 6 year olds where I live tooled up with mobiles, which is ridiculous).
Any online games he plays are on my phone, always with me present, and no invites/social interaction without me vetting first. He has a DS and a Wii, and I don't allow online play with them.

Yes, especially regarding internet. Too bad there's zero parential control in Android. I remember a father reporting, that his kid used in-game market to waiste 99$
A few weeks ago I saw a less than 10 year old girl in a bus with a Galaxy ... some parents don't seem to know, what they are doing.
In true, what goes up must come down - my phone went up ... and came back down - with a thud!
I attached my GS2 to an RC quadcopter using an array of balsa and hard wood, cable ties and foam and took to the skies. Since this is my phone, I have to rebuild a camera mount each time I fly and yesterday and today, I've had 4-5 flights with jello-wobble vibration video - and over beautiful fields too .. anyway, this was my third camera mount of the day and it worked! It did work... before it fell...
the RC quad it as attached to had the camera mount broken (I can make another), two broken props, and some nylon standoffs - on and a carbon fibre rod and LOTS of cable ties!
Sadly, an animal was harmed in the making of this video... a slug (or snail), jad a 1kg+ weight fall out of the sky directly upon it. I'm sorry - at least it was quick!
Oh, and the phone? Fine! Not a scratch or noticable fault - auto focus still works You can see the whole flight ...
I've not had much luck embedding on here so just in case ..

The phone and quad WILL fly again but right now I'm off to sleep - it's been an interesting day!

It landed on grass and soil, doubtless that would have cushioned the impact. If it was solid concrete it will probably do worse.
My heart almost stopped watching it fall, and fall, and fall...Ouch.Madman.
When it hit the floor I farted.
got a big ding on the side after it fell to concrete blocks, i think i should be more careful now
Heli Cow.
Nice video.
Thanks for the great comments everyone.
Almost 24 hours later and I can find no fault with the phone. It was in a silicone case (one that wraps around the phone completely), encased in packing foam and then secured to a light wood mount. Unless the phone took a direct hit on something sharp, the only thing that would affect it is the inertia of the falling and sudden stop. Although I think when it was upside down, it was accelerating downwards!
The quad has breaking points such as the "feet" i made and just tied on. Mainly through ease but they've proved invaluable! Many ties reduce the impact and "break the fall" hopefully saving the quad and phone!
From yesterday, as far as I can tell, there's no damage to the phone. The only damage this phone has incurred was when I used an inferior case which didn't protect the top on my first or second flight and the quad arm vibrated a notch in the front .. GUTTED!
I don't have a reliable way of tracking the altitude yet but I think it was higher than 30m - though I could be wrong. Maybe 100m? Any suggesions and theories to the estimated height? Ideally, I'd like a GPS logger which was capable of running in the background and 1s intervals... Even just height
Looking forward for more vids.

It's hard to jugde the hight from the video. The recordings can trick you somethimes. But it's definetly more than 30m, maybe up to 100.
I regulary fly rc-sailplanes(5m wing span) and somethimes over 1000m (measured with a unit called Piccolario that transmits the height via VHF
You can't trust GPS hight readings.
You have to buy the new S3 that has a barometer

On a positive note, the quad is rebuilt and seems to be flyable (only tested slighty in my house). After a test flight and new camera mount, I'll be out making my phone fly again. All going well, there'll be more videos to come...
This time I will turn off WiFi, phone connectivity and make sure it's in FLIGHT MODE. I take it this was why Android has this feature?! I mean what else could it be for?
Speaking of the phone, it has been performing fine (although, I'm not sure my HSPDA/3G connectivity is faulty because of phone antenna jolt or provider problems (TalkMobile). Still testing. It connects, just sometimes doesn't.
Thanks once again for all the great comments and the views - they are appreciated
Battery life is one option or... the official extended battery that doesn't make the phone gigantic and the following settings can make the phone like an overclocked core I 7
The following settings make the phone so smooth, no super tweaked governor beats this
Also the gpu is locked at 267. Nice with the f1 ics rom with working gpu acceleration.

Had an experiment with the interactive governor.
Got thinking maybe even if there's no obvious heat coming out of the phone the CPU PWM's might start screaming for mercy as they are not designed to be loaded for extended periods of time.
This seems to be surprisingly just as responsive as the 1.4ghz locked performance setting.

so you want the phone to run overclocked at a permanent 1.4?
And you think thats a good thing for it?
I think I posted something at 12:26 a whole 12 minutes before your post where I did express a change of heart over the whole perm 1.4ghz idea.
In any case, if there is any actual evidence based on fact and science specific to the capabilities of the hardware in the sgs2 as to whether or not running high frequency at all times would damage the pwm's it'd be appreciated.

I thought SGN used the same chip as S2, so shouldn't exynos 4210 be able to run 1.4 Ghz out of the box? It'll suck up a lot of battery though.

Ah so there is another product clocking at 1.4 stock. Good to hear.
My own research into the components haven't yielded anything concrete yet.
What I did find is that the maxim max8997 does have 7 step down convertors and 21 linear regulators.
I wonder if that means it has a 7 stage pwm? Who knows.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
OK looks like its the max8627 from maxim ic.
The chip has a Max load of 3.5 watts however in practice we must take car not to exceed the chips maximum dissipation of 1457mw or milliwatts.
Basically this is our total phone power draw envelope. Now I will begin figuring out what our limits are. Could be use full for people ovrrclocking up to 1697mhz.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
I also do wonder about the age span of components when you do such experiments. At the very least if you do wear it out, the Galaxy S3 will be available (and if you do not want that one the S2 will be selling cheaper on ebay lol)

hey what kind of battery are you using,
tell me the capacity of the battery you are using
Overclocking is a bad idea for such a powerful phone in a compact design with no heat dissipation. My computers overclocjed to 5ghz but that's coz its water cooled. I would suggest if you want to use 1400mhz set it to a high threshold so its only used when absolutely necessary. A permanent overclock WILL damage your components

Introductory:
Hello all, cell phones produce radiation just in case you did not know. These radiation levels are measured in a value called SAR(Specific Absorbtion Rate) and it literally is the measurement of just the bottom line of what the human body absorbs, rather than just the amount that it radiating(ha, get it?) around the device. Radiation is bad in the human body where it is directly related to certain issues, including directly reducing bone density in the body. I am posting this as an accurate informational thread where you can draw your own conclusions based off of facts.
SAR Levels:
SAR, which stands for Specific Absorbtion Rate, levels fluctuate depending on numerous factors, in which we must go over in order to accurately understand. The key thing to understand is that the further the device is from your body, the levels begin to diminish by the milimeter(mm).
For a phone to receive an FCC certification, the device cannot have a SAR level of more than 1.6 watts per kilogram in the US, and 2.0 in Europe.
Galaxy Note Series Tests by Samsung:
Let's take a look at the Note series in order to keep this sequential and easier to remember from a timeline fashion of perspective. The Galaxy Note 1 was released first(obviously) and is the model number SGH-I717 for reference. Taken from Samsung's website directly, here are the Note 1 results, including the way that they perform their own measurements:
{

You can see in this writing the methods that are used for testing, and that the body specific SAR tests have the device at 1.0 centimeters(CM), equivalent to 10 millimeters(mm) away. Keep this in mind and we'll touch up on this later.
And here are the Note 2 specific values:
And here are the Note 3 specific values:
So as you can see the comparisons above, the Note 3 effectively produces 153% more Head SAR than the Note 2, and 196% more Head SAR than the Note 1!
I would calculate the Body SAR differences but we have a big problem with Samsung's specific tests...they test these values with the device 1.0 CM(or 10mm) away from the body. This Body SAR calculation is useless to you if your phone presses against your body at 0 mm away!
Let's think...why would Samsung measure in this fashion at 1.0 CM away? Well the Note 3 produces 1.28 Body SAR at 1.0 cm away, so the big question is what would it produce at 0 mm away/ AKA in your pants pocket? Maybe it would exceed the FCC limitation of 1.6?
CNET Testing:
Now let's take a look at a recent test performed by CNET on 1/16/14 to see what they have found in differences in the Note series in particular:
The above is literally all of the information they posted where it is tough to tell how the test was performed and/or what body part it was performed against. By comparing the numbers, it seems as though they tested the head only since it matches the Head SAR values by Samsung.
But there is only but one main discrepency...the Note 3 reads 0.63 SAR value by Samsung, while CNET tested it at 0.9 SAR. Which one holds true?
Device Model Top Charts:
As you can see in the following results, our devices do not hold the highest SAR values compared to the worst out there *ehem* Motorola!
And here are the lowest SAR values amonst all devices. Keep in mind how the Note 2 is 4th lowest.
Theorycrafting:
I researched more into studies being performed per the distance of an object from humans and have found some interesting results.
Here is a model of the human head for reference, spefical model for SAR testing:
And here is are one test's results from testing the SAR levels after altering different distances:
This is just me tipping the iceberg to not go on and on.
Shifting gears toward current events, check out 2/14/14's event of the Army buying 7,000 Note 2's for its troops HERE
The reason why I feel that this is relevant is that they definitely would not want to have their troops being exposed to radiation levels higher than other devices. What makes more sense though is that they tested it for quite some time before it was rolled out, but who knows?
General Radiation Reduction Techniques:
-Consider a cell phone radiation reduction case, Google Pong research to get started since I'm probably not allowed to post links
-Consider buying a device with low SAR levels
-Keep the device out of your pocket or anywhere where it is directly against your skin. Even a hip holster might help keep it a few cm away, or carry it in a purse/backpack.
-Use speakerphone as often as possible to keep the device far from your head.
-Devices use the most radiation when beggining and ending calls. Pull the phone away from your head, even if just a few centimeters, when beginning and ending calls.
-Devices also use high radiation when "hunting for a signal". This occurs when your device has no signal, and needs to omit more power consistently to find one. So keep it away at these times.
-Bluetooth uses less radiation, but overall can be more damage from keeping it on your head for long periods of time. LOSE THE BLUETOOTH!
-Text instead of calling whenever it is applicable/feasible
-Don't sleep with the device near your head....think about it, 6+ hours of it so close to your head...
-Last things I wanted to mention are beefing up on certain things you eat.
a.) Eat seaweed, it's very powerful against radiation
b.) Look for natural supplements that particularly repair already damaged cells in your body from radiation. They are alpha lipoic acid and vitamins C and E
Conclusion:
Considering all of the above along with knowing that we are the guinea pigs for long term cell phone radiation, I strongly feel that it's best to consider SAR levels when purchasing a device. The SAR levels are obviously increasing with each new model being released and should be monitored closely.
It seems to show as being a factor toward brain tumors and bone density loss in only 1 of 2 legs in people(where they always kept their cell phone in the same pocket). I did not go much into detail here about these particular researches/tests, but I would recommend to now start looking into the tests performed for "decade-long cell phone radiation exposures". Imagine us after 50 years of exposure, and please feel free to comment here.

Hello,
I'm just curious, what are potential health hazzards wearing all this smartwear 24/7 like smartband? It's bluetooth tech but is laying totally on the skin. And all this area(wifi,bluetooth...) of potential problems is totally grey...

No, I wanna hear others what they think. Don't wanna find a bump in my wrist after 5years of wearing smartband 24/7...

First: there are not smartbands with android wear yet.
Second: If you are really concerned about the EM-emission you should go live in the woods. You're surrounded by it anyway, whether you wear a smart device or not. Phones, TV, WIFI routers, telephone signals, microwaves etc etc. You know where this is going. The power of the bluetooth connection is incredibly small compared to the power eg microwaves give out. In our modern world you can't protect yourself against this kind of radiation. Maybe wear a tinfoil hat.

Why do you think that? wireless transmission exists since 1896 and there hasn't been a single case where someone got ill from it.
I have smartband SWR10. But you're right, wrong subforum apparently, not android wear..
Don't be so cinical. You would shurely like to put me in a "Chemtrails bucket" but please don't. Currently there are no evidence that prolong exposure to routers and bluetooth is causing illness. And so is the opposite, there are no evidence that prolong exposure to routers and bluetooth is not causing illness because people do get seriously ill... Microwaves do radiate but we are using them rarely(I cook very often so don't need microwave often), on wifi router I'm not sitting, so am not sitting on mobile phone or carrying it in my pocket, also with TV there is a distance over 3m... This bluetooth is in use all the time and totally on the skin so maybe it builds up over time in a tissue I know what you are talking about and that all that emiting crap is around us all the time but the strenght of emission do fall with higher distance from the source... Also the air is poluted so yea, you are right but why put more oil on the fire?
As for woods, the day will come when we will all wish to go live in the woods but there will be no woods, just scorched earth or big brader at the other end

Hm I really don't like that way of arguing. In my opinion things that haven't been proven don't exist, so yea I don't believe in god because of this either (please don't hate me ^^). So if there is no evidence that it causes illness why think it does? It's hard to prove that they don't cause any harm, because that's kind of the definition. How do you prove the non-existence of something?
I see you point that if things are new there is not enough evidence for either of both opinions but as I said wireless technologies like wlan or bluetooth in our phones / watches / TVs / etc really aren't new anymore. They have been around for quite some time (10+ years for the new ones like bluetooth and way longer for general wireless transmission) and no one found any actual evidence for them being harmful in any way, simply because the power they emit is way too low compared to the energy that is around as all the time anyway. One might as well be frightened of the radioactive emissions from our universe.. I think I made my point here Feel free to think otherwise xD

Lets hope not.
I'm not gonna hate you and you again are impleing that with "bucket of believers" thing. Don't do that, god has nothing to do with this and we are closer in thoughts in that subject
Nevertheless, maybe he is sending deep space radiation, who knows, the mass histeria is surelly present...
Just kidding... (on this,I was serious on subject)

If I were to be worried about anything, it would be the cell networks. I mean think about it, every carrier's network - 2G, 3G and LTE/4G - are constantly coursing through and around you. But in the end, it's totally harmless. We're bombarded with huge ranges of frequencies all day long and there isn't so much as a hint of damage.
this is a joke... right?
this is a joke, right? i mean, the food that you eat is more likely to cause you harm than Bluetooth LE, or radio waves for that matter.
The most of food that I eat is mine and is home grown in country side

lul. and don't forget the radioactive food
I'm mostly worried about people don't giving a sh*it... And consumers that change their phones every few months, waste manufacturers... pompose people that think they are so smart and cool... and junk food which they think is healthy... Luulzzz. Loulz. Lel. Lol.

Your wrist and I should hang out some time :good:
(To several posters in general)
The OP does have a legitimate question and shouldn't be written off as a nut for asking it. Too often people grow to just 'accept' things based on fuzzy logic, group consensus, and leave it at that. This is not the way to live and learn any thing. Fact is, there are mounds of people with health issues that didn't begin until their living environments became grotesquely overrun with these emissions. People who sold their homes, moved, and report remarkable feelings of well being since. They have no agenda other than feeling better. These people were all written off as crazy as well.
And this fuzzy logic about us being bombarded constantly by networks around us? Outer space? Lovely. That does nothing to attest to 'proximity' and 'intensity' or how they relate. Then people go on to mix examples of ionizing radiation with non-ionizing radiation. You couldn't come to less of a scientific conclusion if you tried and you made fun of someone in the process. And while the majority of the studies on the matter have proven inconsistent results, that does not equivocate to insanity for considering it.
Fact is, if non-ionizing radiation is harmless in your mind; Go remove your microwave door, rig the safety switch, and have a meal on me. Which leads me to the SAR rating for microwave emission exposure, which was completely disregarded here. As people hurl 'you're crazy' around and allow more and more wireless devices into their proximity you compound your overall exposure rate.
If the OP want's a specific answer; We don't know. Use at your own risk.
