Genokolar had released moments ago a new .35 based kernel for MIUI/CM7 which fixes the scratchy sound when listening to music.
I've been testing it:
- Incall sound is brilliant
- Speaker sound is brilliant
- Music sound trough speaker is brilliant!
Official thread: http://bbs.anzhi.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=4942811
Mirrors:
CM7 - http://www.mediafire.com/?wsaq9u7ai56lmvl
MIUI - http://www.mediafire.com/?yhqg1h2r22wk44l
Remember: it's only for .35 based MIUI/CM7!
Use it at your own risk!
Instructions:
1 - Flash it on recovery (i'm using 5.5.0.4)
2 - Profit!
Credits to genokolar.
Oh boy oh boy oh boy! Will this only work for U8800 or U8800 Pro owners can use this kernel too?

By the way, how do you know if you have an atmel screen? I had the .35 kernel for a few days but I don't think I had any trouble with the touch screen...I was using Aurora ICS by dzo but the .35's horrible sound quality made me switch back to .32 kernel...
How would you guys describe the sound quality (with geno's kernel) as compared to Elite 9.7 or MIUI (.32)? Because the sound quality with Elite 9.7 is absolutely amazing!...

Thanks, I see...but I was asking if is there a big difference between the sound quality on this modified .35 kernel and the .32 kernel? I understand that .32 quality is better but if the sound quality on this kernel isn't all that much worse I might go back to Aurora...

Sorry my bad writing ...
I do not remember where, but there is an app that could see the type of screen you have the phone ... research that will certainly find.
As for the sound quality with .32 kernel I believe it is better, but the .35 kernel will be the future and will certainly correct to point to match the sound quality of the .32 kernel
Anyway, install a MUI with this .35 kernel and do the comparison yourself sound ...
Granted this kernel has nothing to do with the ROM ICS.

I don't think it's much the quality of the sound itself, because I find it the same between .32 and .35 ROMs, it's more about the volume... in 32 kernel, it's so loud I have to reduce volume on some songs, while in 35, volume is always very low, even on maximum, when using headphones while playing music...

I think so.
It may be that it is better with the .35 kernel development
Aloud is already better, no longer makes strange noises, lol
Phones in use depends on ... I use before I slept lying down, and there is not need much volume, which is enough ... for me, of course. : D

This is a kernel based on GT-i9010 JL1 Armani source.
Compatible with 2.2 and 2.2.1 ROMS.
I ran the Andromeda 2.0 ROM (currently running Andromeda3) as my daily driver and liked the kernel the ROM came with (UrsaMinor) for speed, smoothness, and battery but had a couple issues, like in call volume, so I got inspired to contact the guys on TeamKomin, grab the 9010 source play with it. This kernel is what I ended up with. It's been working great for me for a while now so I figured I'd share it.

Looks like JK4 will work nicely with the kernel as well, at least from a speed perspective. IMO GPS is still a little better with JL2 though.
I have a KB1 kernel working as well with similar tweaks that I might post as well if anyone is interesting in testing it.

I've been running it for about a month now personally on my dev and daily phone. Also built the new UrsaMinor kernel with the same source for TeamKomin and they have been testing.
So I guess some... but not the whole world.

As for the comparison all I can give is my limited knowledge and opinion. The i9010 is almost identical hardware to the Captivate. So the base kernel code is closer to the Captivate than the i9000. An example of that would be there is no need to reorient the i9010 code for portrait like you have to in the i9000 code.
<snip>
JL2 is a 9000 modem, sorry for the confusion.
Maybe someone with more knowledge/advice will chime in as well.

I would recommend the JL2 modem over an i9000 based one mainly since the the modem and kernel are "matched". You can also try the GLJL1 if you like as well. If I were going to test modems I'd try the Armani ones first, then the Captivate ones, then the i9000.

try voodoo control plus from market it needs root access to load voodoo onto ur stock kernel...

Hello all!
I registered here last winter, at first installing a custom ROM, then the initial 2.3.5 official release - but in the end to be safe rather than sorry, I put in the official 2.2 and been using that for 3 months. Lately though, the 2.2 has proven to be hard to use, especially when typing and correcting stuff. I would be now willing to jump into the waters.
Last time I checked, there wa some reported stuff in official 2.3.5 about dropping calls - then there being a fix for it, and then report about the fix doing nothing.
To me I need my phone to function as a phone, at all times, the interface can be nice but it cannot sacrifice any phone related functionality.
All i simply ask in current situation: How is the official 2.3.5? How is .35 kernel based ROMs? Would you people recommend upgrading to official 2.3.5?
I'd also be interested in the custom roms, though as said, bugs, even minor ones I try to avoid.
Thanks! You people are awesome!

He's asking for stability and you suggest Aurora? Dzo is actively working on it, yes it's mostly stable, but for someone who seems to want to install a ROM and forget about it, not worrying to need to updating it constantly and encounter the occasional bug, I would discourage Aurora.
I recommend you Ezet CM7 .32 ROM, it's the most stable you will find at the moment. Everything works by default, even wifi tether. It's FAST! It's smooth, astounding sound volume in calls and multimedia overall, it's CM7.2, which has ics animations, including rotation, and that's beautiful, it has t9 dialer... better still, it has x5 settings app, in which you can tweak all sorts of stuff that it's simply not possible in .35 ROMs...
But best of all, it's 32 kernel, so on worries about the horrible job Huawei did with the .35 kernel, no missed calls, no problems with amtel screens, no low volume, etc...

Oh really? Sounds fantastic... I think that I could give the best try for - and thanks for fantastic recommendation. Sounds like perfect upgrade for me.
Darn. I got the rom installed and it is working quite well - but wifi is not connecting... I will wait and see does it rectify on the AP overnight - Can´t even test with other AP's even now - but this aside wifi problems in general has always plagued my huawei. And 3G is not free nor unlimited for me, and I am mostly home so WLAN rocks

Yeah... Well Text editing in 2.2 sucks without the arrow tool and all. 2.3.x is enough for that all at least.
Too bad Wifi also halted to function afterwards, I hope it is just devide name mismatch in AP and works fine after 24 hours.
.32 MIUI or CM is what you should use. They are very stable and fast.

I may need to find some older possible 2.2 based stock rom dload, install that first, and then get into monkey business installing Ezet again...

Hello,
I may sound like a noob, but thats only because i didn't play with these roms much so far... so, yes, i am a noob
I managed to upgrade my U8800pro to 4.03 official thanks to some of you.
Now i am looking through the forum and many threads and many many custom roms, but i cant decide which one to go with since all seem to have problems...
So the question is: which rom is the most stable+fastest for U8800pro? It would be also nice if normal features (calls sound ok, network works ok, "notification drawer", gmail, youtube, play store, gps, wifi, tethering (wifi, usb), music playback, if possible radio, if not also ok) are also present and working. I really hope there is such rom out there. I dont mind if it is based on 2.x or 4.x (ok, i prefer 4.x, but if some 2.x is better, i will go with that), as long as it works well.
I also have U8800 and there it is easy choice. Go with Aurora, and everything (well, almost everything) works as intended. I also looked for Aurora mod for U8800pro but the best i could find is a mod for Aurora 4.x, while there is already Aurora 5.x out there.
I will post instructions for upgrading 2.2 to 2.3 to 4.03 later on, since i had problems upgrading myself for future noobs to use.
And thanks in advance

Stock Gingerbread
best ROM
nothing can beat it..
ALL custom ROMs for U8800PRO have one thing or the other that'll leave you unsatisfied..
Stock ICS is bad for gaming.
all JB 4.1 have only secondary mic (the one beside the camera) working.. plus, camera doesn't work properly except in stock/pre-installed camera app.
all JB 4.2 have buggy/broken bluetooth
If you don't play heavy games (even Subway Surfers is HEAVY for this phone ).. then you can stick to official ICS.. just unlock FPS (that "install-recovery.sh" thing) and all Temple Runs will be fine.

I'll have to disagree!
Rittik's CM10 ROM is probably the best choice. It's really fast, no lag, and with RAM Manager Pro and History wiping (long press home button), there is absolutely no problem (provided you disable apps to run at startup with Autostart).
Gaming is as smooth as stock GB, except for the games that are ridiculously heavy.
I hope I helped =)

I disagree with both of you. Our friend needs a stable ROM. So I suggest him to try Gingerbread(2.x.x) custom ROMs like THE STALLION ICS look, CyanogenMod 7.2 and MIUI. Everything works like a charm, no reboots, good RAM managment, a lot of extras(the last two ROMs) and no battery drain.
You can downgrade to Gingerbread by flashing step 2 from an official GB ROM.

"SDcard is damaged or has unsupported format"
"4G WiFi icon" instead of "USB icon"!
"No signal icon" instead of "GPS icon"..
What about disturbance in calls? You can hear your fingers moving on the phone's back! bcoz main mic isn't working at all!

The Stallion ICS look has no SRS WOW HD.. no DSP Manager too.
CM7.2 is buggy.. buttons backlight.. and proximity sensor.. Also, Awesome Beats™ does not work on GingerBread.. Beats™ is the only thing that can beat SRS WOW HD... CM7.2's DSP Manager is "just okay"...
Kalo is not themable.

Are you saying you prefer official GingerBread than CM7 or MIUI for example?

i have flashed almost all of the roms available for more than a week each (time required to actually see if there are any hidden bugs)
The roms with the least bugs are Kalo and stallion ics.All the others have important issues (for me) thats the reason i didnt stick with them.In general:All ics roms are heavy and laggy, not for games ofcource. All "jb" roms have very serious issues such as awful memory management and awful incall sound, the phone's most important function, broken bluetooths, broken gps, broken wifi, and a lot of smaller bugs.
All miuis have issues, mainly low memory because of the heavy ui.
Cms are almost ok but not quite there.
I didnt want to return to gingerbread after all these beautiful roms but they are just that, beautiful on the outside ugly on the inside!
we have to focus on gb roms, they are the most complete unfortunately, unless a real dev shows up and work on sources

Aurora ics 4.1 with fixed "white screen" is the best rom I think. But it is my IMHO.

I never encountered such bugs except the oversensitive mic. But that can be fixed, can't it?

that's true, that's why they are so fast. But i can add some of the missing features with apps.On the other hand i can't fix memory leaks and incall sound with an app or play heavy games..I could use chainfire 3d for boosting performance for games, but guess what,it doesn't work with jb!

yeap,they are all there..!
My favorite ROM still remains CM7.2 modified by bronxitas with forumber kernel. The ROM isn't really on XDA as far as I know but it's based on the Moihack release most likely.

I didn't expect you would say that. I don't think anyone will agree with you.
Stock ROMs lag a lot, have locked fps, are unrooted, less features...
korekore I think you 've tried the MIUI I'm on with right now.
It's fast, it has a lot of useful features, it has the most free memory I ever encountered and minimum battery drain(all night 1-2% loss).
B U T I have installed only 51 applications like every ROM I used in the past. I mention that because you said that problems start to appear after a big number of installed apps(>100).
I think this ROM siuts me better than anyone other and it was a pleasant surprise for me.
I think I gonna stick with it.
Everyone has his own priorities and his own criteria.

I wasn't a MIUI fan but I love this ROM.
I like the feature you can access notification bar from any application even in full screen.

It supports another file. I don't remember the name(something like 99unlock).
Even though I prefer MIUI or CM7 or Kalo's ROM. That's my opinion.
