voodoo sound - Galaxy 3 General

i am using stock kernel and i realised that stock kernels are supersmooth in comparison to overclocked kernels....
the only thing i miss is voodoo sound...
so i m curious to know if i can apply voodoo patch on stock kernel somehow...?
does anybody know how to do that..?

On a related sidenote, can voodoo sound be added to CM7? And how is CM7 sound quality? (I'm using my phone mainly as a MP3 player)

I m also looking for the same.. I use it in kryillos rom it's great..want it in stock rom..

I thought that CM has DSPmanager that controls the sound of the speaker and headphones and where you can change bass treble EQ en such things for every sound produced by the phone or am I missing something

try voodoo control plus from market it needs root access to load voodoo onto ur stock kernel...

@above:
already tried that....
bt its not working..

I9000 sound distorted.

Hi,
Does anyone know how to adjust sound mixer levels? It seems the no matter where i set the level to, it still sounds distorted .
Look into the dev section and get a kernel or rom that has voodoo sound. There are a lot of them, so just pick one that you would like the best.
Follow the instructions carefully and you should have a better sound as well as speed, battery, responsiveness and other improvements, depending on the rom/kernel.
And if you're afraid of flashing and/or want to support supercurio, you can simply buy voodoo control plus from market.
You can buy voodoo control plus on the market by Supercurio. His sound improvements are simply astonishing. You can have voodoo sound without a custom kernel as long as you have root. Also it helps support him

ROM suggestions

Well guys, I am running on unity now and I've got the beats addon. I like beats audio enhancement very much. But however the sense 3.0+roms are just too heavy for me to use, as it is laggy and I can't multi task(I don't want to use the sd partition as it damages the sd card)
I am a music guy so I need a good music output for my dz
Can someone recommend some roms that have a good audio output ,lite and fast? It can be any kind of rom except unity, dhd port sense 3.0 ,beatmod and runnymede,as I have already tried them. If by any chance somebody have a beats audio mod for sense 2.1, pls tell me, I'll be very grateful to you, thx.(it'll be best if the recommended roms run with sense)

Download Neutron MP3 player app.
It is perfect for an audiophile.
Beats, to be honest, is a pile of marketing crap.
Doesn't sound nearly as good as the Neutron MP3 player.
Which ROM are you using?

Use cyanogenmod 7, and use DSP manager, built in. Its brilliant. More bass than beats mode

oddly enough I could never get cyanogenmod properly working, it would be stuck for hours on the cyanogen loading screen and wouldn't actually run.
Have you tried mexdroid? It's got the cyanogen dsp built in and sounds pretty good, but I have never used Beats so I can't compare it. I tried that recommended music app above and hated it.
+1 for mexdroid ghost chilli, if you really don't want MIUI or sense with sd ext.
Thx xT4Z1N4TRx,Well tried and the sound really is pleasing thx, but I just can't stand the stock android UI (poisoned by HTC Sense)

Well absolutely agreed with you, the player really did SUCKED and the player pro is much better with a user friendly UI, and with themes XXD.BTW, If you hadn't tried beats, try it pls and I'd like to have some comment on the beats mod vs cm7 with dsp. ^,^
+1 on Neutron music player
It helps out your audio sound quality much more than the Beats silliness
and don't forget to use wav or other lossless music formats (such as flac) if you are serious about good sound, mp3's sound like crap if you are used to full CD quality such as a wav file.
Neutron is not free though ($5), Player Pro would be my 2nd choice, and it's also $5
keep in mind though, the difference in music players makes a small improvement, the difference between lossy formats (i.e. MP3, WMA, OGG, AAC) and lossless formats (WAV, AIFF, AU, FLAC, APE, WV, M4A, TTA) is HUGE!
Well I don't mean to insult any neutron player users, but I personally really don't like that player, the scrolling is buggy and the UI is very ,you know, somehow not good, that's why I gave up the player at once

to use CM7 you need to do a full wipe. (do a nandroid first!)
the nightlies are good stuff.
to the OP: try cyanogenmod7 nightlies, they have DSM manager.
So is the sound quality in miui roms really not that good? I heard that they suck LOL
I really want to go to miui for sometime but am I am not sure about the sound quality and I don't have the time to check out every rom by myself. I hope someone can give some advices.

MIUI is pretty crap on sound output, although, the performance is pretty zippy but faced more FCs compared to CM7.1. Went for Bulletproof MIUI, but the general issues are inherited from the MIUI base.
Recently, I have moved to ILWT CM7.1 and used multiple versions from ILWT. This seems to be the best for me yet and plan to stick to it. Couple of things that made me move include much much better sound, more stable, less FCs and OS environment native to android.

Try the ILWT CM7.1. Simply go to your CWM Recorvery, do a full factory wipe, dump your cache and install the rom zip. This has always worked for me for most roms - generally the miui or cm7 based roms worked flawlessly using the above method.

OK thanks for the advices guys , just a few questions to ask. Is it fine if I am using 4EXT recovery than CWM to flash? And how is the sound volume? Cuz on sense roms the sound volume is really low.

Not true!
The SGS audio hardware is truly impressive... theoretically! However, in reality the software implementation from Samsung totally messed up the potential this phone had and wasted virtually all the awesome features & quality of the included Wolfson WM8994 Headphone Amp hardware & Codec.
Supercurio did some amazing work fixing these problems, and make his tweaks available to all rom producers in the Voodoo Sound project.
So, if you are running a Samsung Stock rom, then you definitely currently DON'T have the best sound from your device.
If you are running a third party rom, you might well already have Voodoo Sound available to you, but not fully active. To get the most from his tweaks (if already built-in to you your rom) you need to download the voodoo control app from the Play Market.
If you are on stock, (or a rom that doesn't include voodoo sound) you can install the Voodoo Sound stuff to any rooted phone, or pick any rom that has it included. Don't forget the control app too from the Play market to get the most from it.
Then... enjoy your phone as it was intended...

ROM is irrelevant, KERNEL with Voodoo Sound support is what you need.
Semaphore.gr has kernels made to run Samsung GB ROMS and ICS ROMS.

Yes. You were more specific (and therefore more correct) than me.
I re-read what I wrote and can see I wasn't clear enough. I was trying to answer the original question from the OP "which ROM should I get?" ...and do so as simply as possible!
Some roms include a kernel with Voodoo sound out of the box, so if the OP wants a new rom anyway they can pick one with Voodoo Sound already in the kernel and get better sound in one go. (or might find they already have it even, but not fully active)
Of course if the OP likes their current rom (stock or otherwise), and it doesn't have voodoo sound, then changing kernels will add Voodoo Sound for them equally simply. I'd already said this in my first reply, but without explaining how (ie didn't mention kernels), just that you could add it to stock.
Thanks for adding clarity to the discussion...

So writing that my post isn't true wasn't right, as I said that the ROM doesn't affect music. You need a KERNEL with voodoo sound.

Ha!
Depends how you consider a rom....
I consider a rom to be a complete package (which contains a chosen kernel... amongst other stuff). Therefore some Roms are baked with voodoo in... and some are baked without it in (depending on what kernel they contain by default). By that understanding, which Rom the OP picks DOES potentially make a big difference on sound quality (because of the awesome work that supercurio has done).
Of course, you can always change the default kernel to include voodoo afterwards, so no-one would disagree with your comment just now that the kernel is the bit that adds voodoo.
However OP asked specifically which "ROM" has the best sound...
You said it made no difference, which isn't exactly true (and I still stand by that assertion). In fact you didn't mention kernels or voodoo at all in your first post.
So apologies for disagreeing with your post. I was purely attempting to help the OP since I was surprised no-one had mentioned voodoo sound yet. That's all...
No offence intended...
Just trying to be helpful...

xloud on any rom my A$$!

i hate when people ether lie or dont know what there talking about! for example..."people" say that sony's XLoud and be installed on ANY ROM! well from what i have learned and know about the android os as well as sony, this is Not true! the part that really gets me mad is that i have been looking for a way to fix the low volume Bug in ALL CM based roms for the xperia play. i cant stand having low volume, to me if a rom has low volume i dont want it! this is why i only use and create rom that are stock based because according to my research sony's xloud can can only work on a stock based rom with the correct information and certifications as a xperia device. installing any of those xloud zips will corrupt your rom and you have to reinstall it. figured this out the hard way MANY times! stay clear of them. i would really love to fix this issue for cm based roms but all of my attempts have failed, perhaps a much more skilled coder can fix this.
I Installed an xLoud mod (because i can) on my phone and it booted fine, but i can't tell if it worked because i have never used xloud and don't use my phone for music.

yea but i dont like dsp manager, it makes my speakers sound like there going to pop.+ the sound cracks and fades off to much
then you didn't configure it well...
Yeah, kernel and ROM needs to support cloud for it to work. But I should clarify some things for you.
xLoud only affects loudspeaker, not headphones.
CM has poor earphone gain because of DSP Manager, and not using legacy audio with prebuilt Sony drivers. You are right too, using DSP to amplify causes bad distortion. Its because FreeXperia use generic msm drivers and not Sony ones. Poor earphone volume always bothered me.
XLoud in Turbo UI sometimes drops out.
All these issues will eventually be fixed in my 4.1.2 source builds, because I am porting legacy audio in with the goal to make sound 100% identical to stock.

Which is silly really, I know for a fact that the kernel has to expose an xLoud audio device for it to do anything (so it doesn't work on non-Sony devices).

Best Audio Configuration : ROM+Kernel

Hi guys
Thinking about giving the Note 2 a chance since it has Wolfson.
Sound means a lot for me, i still have my old Nexus S with Voodoo Sound just because i love the sound out of it.
I would like to know which is for you guys the best combination for audio purposes, meaning ROM and Kernel, also which player u use and how happy u are with the sound, how u describe it, which are the strongest points, what are u missing...just your general opinion about it.
Depends what you like. personally I'm on Perseus kernel, which lets you change gain of volume and freqs but it doesn't color the sound, beats, xperia etc mod are not for me. ROM wise, It doesn't matter.

I have and old Nexus S, with CM11 and DSP Manager, i have direct access to the DAC, which is what Boeffla Sound does for the Note 2 as far as i know.
That would do it for me, pure Wolfson experience, then find the best audio settings and ready to go.
Custom rom, agni kernel (with boeffla sound) + viper sound mod + neutron player
for me the best combination ever
Yeah. You are right.

I Personally would use Jet Audio as has alot of Audio tweaks which are awesome, I have used Different kernels and they do a great job especially with Eargasm turned on, as for VIPER or similar they are great but i found that they muffle the sound and reduce volume so i actually prefer it without and use Jet audio to edit my audio as for ROM well it depends on what you like and what Android version you want maybe try Sungsonic or Sensonic I personally use JellyKat with JetAudio and sounds great for me
I had the original Galaxy S, and also used the voodoo tweaks. The Note II sounds broadly very similar to my ears, it really is very good. No chance of driving my HD650s without an amp or anything, but the quality is great.
I'm still on an old ROM - Omega v18 with Perseus kernel. Easy to tweak the volume levels and access the HW equaliser for adding a notch of bass for the stock earbuds.
I need some help guys.
Hey guys so i am kinda newbie in this things, but i installed a lot of roms till now. By just folowing carefully step by step everything. Never messed up,ocasionally got some phones into a boot loop but managed to revive them. Also bricked a Nexus 4 but revived that as well. Anyway. My question for you guys is....how do i know if my Note 2 (n7100) Has the boeffla or as a matter afact ANY Sound mods installed on it ? All i know is i have this:
Android 4.4.2
Baseband N7100XXUFND3
Kernel version
3.0.31-3569041
[email protected] #1

SE for Android status
Enforcing

And it wasnt rooted. But somehow it had TWRP installed on it. So i went for it and rooted straight away and first i tried installing Viper4Android 4 but it kept giving me error on installing via TWRP so i installed the old one (2.3 i guess) Witch sucks actually cus the sound is very ... distorted and un-natural. I cant seem to find any setting that would sound good and i wanna get the most out of my Note 2 on sound as i am a huge basshead. I`m frustrated cus i bought a pair of Monster DNA In ear,Skullcandy Ink`D,Skullcandy Smokin`buds Skullcandy 50/50 and Skullcandy Holua Wood. And none of them sound that good. (I thought with some good earbuds problem will be solved but NOPE).
So please .... Please guys have some heart and help me out...
I have pretty much tried DSP Manager, Viper Mod, Beats Audio Mod, Sony Clear Audio Mod, Noozxoide and so on. But from my experience I found the best combination is "Dolby Digital Plus" combined with manual "Audio improvement Mod" in default_gain.conf file itself. Without any distortion I can hear crystal clear notes even if they are very low on frequency. I am on Dr. Ketan V14 Rom, Music FX and Default Music Player. Its worth the try. Follow these 2 threads:
Step 1) Install Dolby Digital Plus
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-2/themes-apps/dolby-digital-plus-note-2-t2918922
Step 2) Audio improvement for N7100 : (here you change the DAC values)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...io-improvement-n7100-break-vol-power-t3044738
Settings listed by Julian67 is more than enough, atleast for me. Good Luck.
