How do you install the ics leak on to a stock a500? - Acer Iconia A500

Is it possible to install the update.zip through usb or external sd card? My friend has one and he does not want root (lame) or a custom rom. So how can we force the update through USB or SD card.

put the update on SD card name it update.zip and boot into Acer recovery by pressing power and holding volume down button.. remember you can't just flash it back if he wants to go back you will have to downgrade it

So how do I boot into Acer recovery once I do what do I do? Do I put the update.zip on the internal or external SD card?

put the update.zip on the external SD card and the power down the tablet and then power on the tablet while holding the volume down button.. it should go right into update recovery.

Use astro file manager and see if the file is named update.zip or update.zip.zip. is should work if update.zip
Sent from my A500 using xda premium

I still don't understand... it is Update.zip but when I downloaded it was acerxxxxxxx something xxxxx.zip; with a .zip; on the end. So I renamed it update.zip

Try just renaming it update, without the zip stuff. That's what I had to do, because my computer is set to "hide extensions for known file types" so the ".zip" is hidden. So when I renamed it update.zip, it was really renaming it to update.zip.zip

Can I go bak to 3.2.1 when I install ICS?
How?
Thans.

I highly recommend not using the leak rom, because if you do not know a lot about what you are doing, you may not be able to get back over to stock to get the actual OTA update. I would not condone using the leak at all, I was locked out of my recovery for a week before someone posted a proper fix, and even that was difficult for me who has experience in this field to follow.
tl,dr,
Don't flash, wait for Acer to release the full update if you don't want to use a rom

Will this work on my Packard Bell liberty tab?

So what we were doing was putting my micro SD into his Acer when it was OFF.. we put it in when it was on and it formatted it. We had it named update.zip the whole time we just needed to put it in when his tab was on.

The black screen with lit up touch buttons is just the vibrants way of bootlooping. The problem with using clockwork to partition the SD card is /sdcard is the internal memory. /sdcard/sd is the card itself. Clockwork is actually formatting the internal memory. Might want remove the external sd and partition it back to 1 fat32 drive and see if that will help.

I can get into recovery but the recovery doesn't access anything besides the internal memory. I can't access the internal memory if if i can't use usb... it doesn't access SD card so placing a file on the card wouldn't help me.
Clockwork does not even access the external sd. You partitioned your internal. You might be able to repartition it from adb if you connect after loading clockwork recovery.

Not that this is a real fix, but try going to T-mo and telling them you have no idea what happened and that it just won't turn on. With any luck you'll get a nice sales rep and they'll give you a new phone.

because:
the only access i have is booting into recovery. I can't access the sd card to update it.. there is nothing on the phone. how does partitioning your sd card wipe both the phone and the sd? i backed up the rom via clockwork/rom manager so maybe it was all stored on the sd card and when i went to wipe, it wiped everything.

If you have the USB drivers installed, You can use ADB to push files to the sdcard, although it won't be incredibly fast to push an entire nandroid backup over (you may need to mount /sdcard/ and push.

First you need to install ADB. You can find the instructions in the top sticky post on the forum. Once it's installed, download http://www.mediafire.com/?kqaulorzx5f6dyq and unzip it into a folder in your adb folder. (ex: c:\androidtools\tools\) Keep track of the file names in the zip file. Open a command prompt in your adb directory and type "adb devices" to make sure your device is connected. I'm on my phone so I don't have my adb cheat sheet but I think you will type "adb mount /sdcard". Then you will want to push each file to the sdcard. You may be able to do the folder at once but I don't remember. That will be something link "adb push whateverfilename".
These are obviously not the best or most detailed instructions but I'm on my phone... You can read the adb tutorial to find what you are supposed to type exactly. You should be able to figure it out from here.

How to go from tnt 2.0 to 2.4 (Update)

I have tnt 2.00 and it works fine but wanted to update to 2.04 have read multiple post and tried to update it using the clockwork mod but have had no luck.
I put the update.zip in the main folder and replaced the update of tnt 2.00. I go the the rom manager and boot in recovery mode and eventually get a triangle with an exclamation point and get a quick boot back to my tnt 2.00.
Where am I going wrong?

As roebeet pointed out in the first post, if you're flashing with clockwork mod recovery, you need to extract update.zip from his ZIP file and put THAT on your SD card.
So basically your saying that with the clockwork mod you do need an sd card and have to put the update on the card.
I know that you have to unzip it and only put the update.zip file in if you are using the clockwork mod but didn't know you had to put it on an sd card.
When I originally changed the rom to tnt 2.0 I just put it on the internal storage.

Yeah, what he said.
One of the problems for new guys is how things are named. And the fact that they're named different things between TnT (and the Lite variant), CM6 and clockwork. TnT (and Lite) as well as clockwork, all call the internal storage "sdcard". CM6b4 calls internal storage "emmc" cuz apparently that's what it's called on phones that have both internal storage and an SD/MicroSD slot.

That's actually the industry standard. Why VS decided to setup the device that way is anyone's guess. Same for a lot of the things they did.
Without this great community support, this thing would be a a pile of crap. A pile of crap with potential, but still a pile of crap.

I put it in the folder and still get the white triangle with the black exclamation when it tries to reboot and reverts back to the tnt 2.00.
So what is causing this white triangle to appear and not letting me update??
I get the same symbol when I try to backup my current rom using the rom manager.
I get the same white triangle when I use the "Install ROM from SD Card" in rom managment....

I think that, at this point, it's not critical if you're staying on the same mod. Only wipe if you have problems, but of course backup your device before upgrading (just in case).
Flipping between mods, on the other hand, is more risky. I would highly recommend wiping data in that case.

Failed to install trigger, now stuck at vibrant screen

Ok so im on the road right now and decided to get off of eugenes ginger clone and go back to trigger... well I guess the download of trigger was corrupt because its failing to install. I thought I had bionix as a backup but turns out bionix backup zip is on my external sdcard...
In clockwork though im unable to access the external sd... just keeps saying the sdcard is empty.. I know cam doesn't access the sdcard as I've always had to put anythingi want to flash on my phones internal memory...
the guy I workout with also has a vibrant so that's how im writing this now, and I wont be home or access to a computer till Tommorrow. Is there anyway to get cam to see the sdcard or something, anything?

just odin to stock, root, flash again.
Its step by step in my signature.

my bad, completely missed you were on the road/no pc.
shame you do not have a pc, because you can (or should be able to) mount the phone to pc while in CWR (I know you could on other recoveries, have never tried on the Vibrant).
Then you could move files while in CWR... and just download the rom to the pc...
EDIT, yeap, on mine it's under "mounts and storage" and then "mount usb storage"... have the phone connected via usb and it should show mounted on the pc shortly after you select to mount. then just drag the file over.
.... if that is not an option....
so, you don't have a rom on your internal? I always keep the latest ROM's zip there just in case....
still thinking...
Yea I saw the usb storage I was wondering what that was..
I did have a internal rom folder but eugenes Scrap alwayssss wipes the internal sd and I didn't bother to put it back.
Man I love but hate eugenes work sometimes lol.

Having a small problem flashing a new radio

It is more than likely that your sd card is not formatted properly. Copy everything somewhere safe on you computer and reformat your sd card as fat 32 then cooy everything back. Then try again should work.

[Q] Noob...easiest way to root NC 1.3 onto MicroSD

Hello
I am looking to root my NC but I don't want to change the internal software. I have looked and read and researched so many methods and threads and I am more confused then anything else.
I need step by step clear (for dummies) instructions to root it onto the SD card.
I just updated it to firmware 1.3 and as i was looking for a method to root it i found very few threads on this.
Then I tried to downgrade to 1.2 and that was unsuccessful. Please someone help me. I want it so bad but i dont know what to do.
No need to downgrade. While I do recommend you do an internal install, it is up to you. Click the link in my sig and go to the SD install section.

Either your description is unclear or I have problem understand your English.
What do you mean by "root NC 1.3 onto MicroSD"?
Moving entire stock ROM version 1.3, rooted, on the uSD to free the internal space?
No. I want to root my NC 1.3, but i want to do it on the MicroSD not on the internal software.

Try using winimage to burn the image.
If that doesn't work. Then I'm pretty sure it's your SD card. The only SD card brand you should use to run Android from is a Sandisk brand class 2 or 4. Other SD cards have major issues.

OK that didnt work either.

You are sure that you are putting the cm.zip file on the boot partition?
---------------------------------
Sent from my LG Optimus V using Tapatalk
I first write the image file on the blank/empty card.
Then I take it out of the computer and put it back, just like you said.
Then I open the card folder usually (j) and drag the zipped cm file onto it.
When that is done I drag the zipped gapps file onto the folder.
When that is done I take out the card and with the NC powered off I put in the MSD card and power it on.
All is well until it says removing the gapps, then it powers off.
When I try to power it on again it boots from the original NC, not the MSD card.
One thing though, When I click run as admin, it does not prompt for a password. It just asks if i want to allow the program to to make changes to the computer. I click yes and it opens up Win32. I select the file and the drive and press write. 5 seconds later its done.
