The black screen with lit up touch buttons is just the vibrants way of bootlooping. The problem with using clockwork to partition the SD card is /sdcard is the internal memory. /sdcard/sd is the card itself. Clockwork is actually formatting the internal memory. Might want remove the external sd and partition it back to 1 fat32 drive and see if that will help.

partitioning it back to fat32 didn't work. still just lit bottons and black screen after it has booted up. I think i erased eveything when i partitioned the sd card. i wonder has anyone else ran into this.
Just download jac's nandroid and put on sd card assuming you can still get into recovery..

I can get into recovery but the recovery doesn't access anything besides the internal memory. I can't access the internal memory if if i can't use usb... it doesn't access SD card so placing a file on the card wouldn't help me.
Clockwork does not even access the external sd. You partitioned your internal. You might be able to repartition it from adb if you connect after loading clockwork recovery.

nah.. i did chose clock work recovery, partition sd card 564 swap and 30mb i think... i am not sure.. but it did that... i tried to be reboot, it goes by the tmobile logo, then makes the tmobile noise as its on the samsung S part and then it goes to a black screen and lit up soft keys....
im guess stuck. i guess i can confirm this as bricked. ugh
i dont even know how to use adb.. it's difficult

Not that this is a real fix, but try going to T-mo and telling them you have no idea what happened and that it just won't turn on. With any luck you'll get a nice sales rep and they'll give you a new phone.

because:
the only access i have is booting into recovery. I can't access the sd card to update it.. there is nothing on the phone. how does partitioning your sd card wipe both the phone and the sd? i backed up the rom via clockwork/rom manager so maybe it was all stored on the sd card and when i went to wipe, it wiped everything.

If you have the USB drivers installed, You can use ADB to push files to the sdcard, although it won't be incredibly fast to push an entire nandroid backup over (you may need to mount /sdcard/ and push.

First you need to install ADB. You can find the instructions in the top sticky post on the forum. Once it's installed, download http://www.mediafire.com/?kqaulorzx5f6dyq and unzip it into a folder in your adb folder. (ex: c:\androidtools\tools\) Keep track of the file names in the zip file. Open a command prompt in your adb directory and type "adb devices" to make sure your device is connected. I'm on my phone so I don't have my adb cheat sheet but I think you will type "adb mount /sdcard". Then you will want to push each file to the sdcard. You may be able to do the folder at once but I don't remember. That will be something link "adb push whateverfilename".
These are obviously not the best or most detailed instructions but I'm on my phone... You can read the adb tutorial to find what you are supposed to type exactly. You should be able to figure it out from here.
I have this problem were the sd card will not take anything on it. If I place a new folder and a picture on it, it erases itself on its own. Or I'll put a album on there and maybe 5-8 songs might appear. I am running passion ics with a 32gb sd card. Just want to know if there is a zip that needs to be flashed or if this is a problem. Thanks for reading!

At first I was a little worried about using this program, but I ran it and it worked for about 2 hours. Out of no where the music that I was moving over kept disappearing and stopped allowing me to copy files from the pc to the sd. I tried formatting the card after that and I was allowed to put the files that were on there before formatting but nothing after that. Is there any other solution to this fiasco that I am faced with!
I have a similar issue. I haven't tried writing anything to my SD card, but it looks like its empty in MIUI and ES file explorers. I can boot into recovery and see that the files are there. Any suggestions?

It's has really been the pain in the arse. Really.
I use Lord's Ice Cold Sandwich. This happens occasionally, when I tried to download SD data for a game, the SD card remounts as being read-only.
I tried full-wipe flash, format SD card with Disk Utility of Ubuntu, then reflash it with Android's utility. I tried unmounting sdcard in CWM. I tried fix permission option in CWM. Nothing helps so far.
Thanks in advance!!!

I actually tried that. The other day I backed up stuff than formatted the thing with Disk Utility tool of Ubuntu. I then went extreme, formatted it again on Android.
I guess the app above might help. The thing is I'm still under 18 for a credit card, hence gotta wait another year to be eligible.... mannnnn
Apparently, the SD card is still in R/W mode, it isn't til I start download data for games, download music, use dolphin... that it becomes read only. The process usually goes for half the bar, than stop.

Hello. I have a hudge problem with my phone. Somehow it automatically unmounts and remounts my sd card for no reason no matter what rom I use. Sometimes it unmounts my sd card and don't mount for a month. Sometimes it gives damaged sd card error and asks to format it but when I insert my card to tablet and it detects no errors. What could be the problem? Can anyone help me fix this?

Then you have to check different roms and kernels to see under which your SD card works properly. I suggest trying newest AOSP / SDSL or CM 7.2 by Tejas build three.
Maybe is the slot of your SD Card, Why?:
Using every ROM, same device and same problem = device
Used other device and everything ok = the "other" device
So, definitely your slot on your device is bad. Good Luck!

Just delete all partitions and make new (FAT32) with some Live CD if U don't have Linux on PC (for best get gParted Live).
Next put it in Your phone and partition again with CWM 6.0, or just use fat32.
Some customized roms mess up sd card if it has /swap.
Noticed this in some 2.3 custom rom, but don't remember name of it.

Can someone help me, please?

P.S.

I have rittik v 2.0
use only cwm 5.0.2.7 .Its the only one with no bugs.Except that you have to reboot recovery before flashing a zip,but thats no big deal.
5.0.2.7 is pretty good but 6.0.1.5 (I think) has no problems.
Bronxitas posted a zip for a fixed 5.0.2.7
On to the top issue, try booting into recovery while plugged into a computer/power supply.
Take out the battery and sd card.
Then reboot recovery. Put in the sd card and battery.
Reboot recovery again. There.
Note: before you do this, check your mounts to make sure emmc and sdcard is enabled.

i had pretty major problems with 6.0.1.5 like not even recognizing my sd card! (16gb class 10)
And i think it uses a different folder structure than 5.0.2.7 when creating back ups.If i remember correctly someone was trying to restore or open a specific file from a 6.0.1.5 backup and he couldn't because of new compression method used or something?

You can change the backup selections as Pika said once in some option in 6.0.1.5 to restore the 5.0.2.7 backup but you have to change the way the restore is saved: tar, etc...

Yes and no, Class 4 and Class 10 are often the most common and recommended sd cards. Class 10 editions are newer to the market whereas class 4 has been here for a while. Class 10 achieves a faster R/W speed but class 4 is recommended for the novice user:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2388408,00.asp
No one with the -51 reported any mounting errors. I would know if they did... Please don't assume anything unless you have one.
The hardware tree is virtually identical to the pro with the exception of wifi and bluetooth as well as processor.

I'm using TWRP since 15th April.
My sdcard jack was replaced on 18th April.
So.... I've tested "only" TWRP with the new jack.
Earlier (with the old jack) even TWRP also needed rebooting to actually read the sdcard..
My PC is not working, so I can't dare to test other recoveries.
