Relatively new to the G2, and I'm looking for a daily driver without having to experiment with 10 roms that all have one deal-breaking bug.
I like sense, which is good because it looks like pretty much all of the recent roms are sense or miui. I really wanted to have a sense 3.0/3.5 with 3d widgets, but it doesn't look like there are any stable, fast roms in this department.
So what's your go-to rom? I probably will start experimenting with all the newer roms anyway, but I want to get set up with a stable fallback first.
Thanks
As far as an AOSP ROM goes, I believe that meXdroidMod is hands down the fastest thing I've ever installed and it also has great developer support too. Here recently I've been all about MIUI so right now I'm running tun4fish's Bulletproof Miui. I'm in love with the speed and stability of this rom and the amount of customization you can do with it.
All in all it all boils down to personal preference. I like flashy, customizable roms so those two fit me. Play around and see what's right for you

I switch between CM7 and Beatmod Blissense. I prefer a more pure android, but I do like the UI and widgets in Beatmod.
Been running Bulletproof MIUI the last couple weeks. Solid daily driver with all the features I need and no issues.
When I get bored, I switch back/forth between CM7 and MIUI.
Been a meXdroidMod convert for awhile now. Really really fast and everythings smooth! Developer support is awesome too!
I started out with trying Virtuous Unity and Virtuous Doubleshot but found the Sense 3.0 ROMs were to slow for my DZ.
Settled for Virtuous Sense for the time being which is perfect for me. Also tried out Bulletproof MIUI just to try something completely different but that was definitely not for me so I returned to Virtuous Sense.

Virtuos Sense 2.0.0 for me. Stable, fast, no unexpected suprises.
I find any of the sense roms are too slow. On bulletproof miui currently and it blazes. CM7 is also quick and a joy to use.

I gotta go with cm7 nightlies here. Cm blazes on this phone at 1.5ghz. Check out the gps thread in development if you have issues with gps and your radio.

I've been running Cyanogenmod 7.1 RC-1 for 1027:53:15 hours. That's over a month without having to restart. Plus I have it overclocked to 1.5 Ghz with Pershoot's kernal. I've never had this kind of stability before. But unfortunately I will have to reboot to install the the final build of Cyanogenmod 7.1.
Been running stock rooted GB and recently tried g-lite but it was crashing my phone. Went back to Stock rooted, runs great and reliable

MIUI would be my daily driver. Speedy while still looking absolutely beautiful. Either of the builds by CarpeNoctem or Tuna4fish would serve you well
lots of love for MIUI here
as much as I like it too the OP said he likes Sense, so for me after trying absolutely every ROM with Sense, i like the InsertCoin. It has the battery and speed of your 2.1 Sense ROM but all the cool features of Sense 3.
I'd like to stress on the battery life - it's absolutely fantastic on InsertCoin.

It doesn't have any memory problems, common for Sense 3 ROMs?
Try using ILWT CM7
Its a rom thas is based on the latest major nightly build and it has the virtuos oc daemon
Its pretty fast and the battery is awespme!

I agree with this statement 100%. Absolutely the best and my favorite ROM out right now.
I'm currently on CM7 nightlies. CM7 is by far the fastest ROM I've used, and it just gets faster when you overclock it. If I get bored, I'll use tun4fish's Bulletproof MIUI for a change of pace.
My daily driver is IC 2.1+3.0 and its awesome on the Desire Z.
No offence intended by the title of this thread, but I've noticed that all of the latest rom releases are all pimpin out sense 3.
To be honest, I find the lack of current development on sense 2 roms disappointing. Im currently using the last version of Leedroid 3.3.3 and occasionally switch to ARHD 5.2.6 as these were the last x2 sense roms which I enjoy.
I realise that sense 3 is the latest from HTC but in my opinion its bloated and sluggish with annoying 3d scrolling and a lack of scrollable wallpaper.
So my question is this... why the mass exodus to sense 3? Does anyone else feel the same as me?
Honestly, sense is pretty useless for me. Laggy, a resources hog and huge performance loss.
CM7 rules.
I also find this very disturbing/slightly annoying. However since I'm not a dev I'm still grateful for the wide variety of ROMs available.
That being said I found the stock Sense ROM to be awesomely quick but in my "the grass is greener on the other side moment" I removed it and put on some others... I'm now on CM7 and waiting for ICS AOSP for the DHD.
I guess it's just because everyone tends to build on the newest base available. Once some Gingerbread RUUs leaked everyone started building with them, and it wasn't long before the remaining Froyo builds stopped being actively updated. Same thing has happened now with Sense 3 - test builds have leaked and people have moved on, and if/when an official update comes out you'll struggle to find any actively maintained ROMs using earlier versions. The same thing will happen with Sense 3.5, then Ice Cream Sandwich, then who knows.
You can't fight progress.
Well...
At first I thought the sense 3 ROMs were pretty laggy in rosie, but with the super smooth and liquid smooth patches, and all the work done by others, I feel that they're now as smooth as they were always meant to be =)
Apart from that, if you want super silky smooth over nice transparent looks and still be very functional, I'd suggest MIUI with a nice theme. I went to the SCI MIUI ROM a while back and it's amazing, although for a change now and then I do go back to a sense ROM for a week or so and I'd recommend looking at the liquid patch.
Sense for nice looks, along with whatever patches our amazing devs come up with for speed and functionality.
MIUI with custom launcher for a fantastic compromise between AOSP speed and looks, along with that fantastic pull down and battery (and did I mention the speed?) (Also, I think I might be bias towards this)
Cyanogenmod for pure speed and battery
But anyways, that wasn't the point =/
Sense 3 with the patches is as smooth as sense 2 was, and most things like the 3d and bloated-ness can be got rid of or are the same as sense 2 =) Plus you can activate the scrollable wallpaper in some of them
Edit: Sorry that is a rant and a half.

No one asked you to come to XDA. If you don't like what's on offer, develop your own. The Dev's develop what they want, they just happen to share it with everyone else.

The current sense 3/3.5 ROMs are indeed super smooth. I would get bored in a day every time I flashed a new Sense ROM, but what brought me back to Sense is the new RCMix3d Runny v3.2. Once you use Sense 3.5, its difficult to go back to even Sense 3, so I'd been waiting for this to stabilize a bit. And I must say, the RC team has made this ROM buttery smooth. Its perfect so far. Falling in love with Sense again.

The main reason alot of developers are going with the new sense is that they know all future updates will include it and the old coding for the older sense will no longer work when making and configuring roms.

ARHD 5.2.6 is my all-time favourite ROM. It's stable, smooth, fast and has amazing battery life not to mention it works with PureBlackEspresso skin (was never updated for Sense 3.0).
However, seeing all the new bells and whistles which are included in Sense 3.5 I tried Runny v1.5 when that was the latest release. Whilst I was impressed with how it looked and the cool extras like RCTweaks and Beats Audio (I've since decided SRS is better), it just didn't impress me with performance or battery life so I went back to ARHD 5.2.6.
Anyway, last night I decided to give Runny another try and flashed v3.3. All I can say is WOW! What a difference now... it's actually runs as nice as it looks. So fast and smooth, and appears to be very stable too. It's too early to comment on battery life but so far it seems acceptable.
My only gripe with Sense 3.5 is that you loose scrolling wallpaper in favour of the 3D Rosie. I do prefer scrolling wallpaper, but hey... you can't have everything and it's a small price to pay for all the other cool stuff you gain.
I still have ARHD 5.2.6 as my main Nandroid though... it will be a cold day in hell before I get rid of that!
From my last comment...i was talking ****e,now running runny 3.3 honey sense hd on board and nexus boot with customized uot kitchen bits. Uv scripted. Sweet

Hey guys if you dont know me I was a rom dev for the xperia but moved on to the DZ. HAven't yet made a rom for the DZ, yet.
But I have been flashing non-stop since i got this phone. Its just I can't decide what I should stick to, and what will match my needs.
So im a highschool student, calendars reminders are big for me and staying organized. I play basketball and watch it too so video and stuff is needed.
But Im also a dj/producer and i need the best sound. I also like to play games ocassionaly as well.
I really love Sense 3.0 but I cant handle the laggyness even with swap enabled, is there anything else that can be done? I was on virtuous 2.00 (sense 2.1) for 2 weeks it was stable and all, but the battery was pretty drainable fast. BlissBeatMod is promising if some of it can get less laggy. And we'll have to see what Virtuous Tretanique (Affinity) will go.
Aosp is nice and fast but I dont really get the nice looks and features that miui have to offer.
Miui is really nice im running BulletProof right now. But i still dont feel like its the "one". and the quality of music isnt as great on sense even with equalizer options on.
PLEASE TELL ME ANY SUGGESTIONS, ALL WILL BE APPRECIATED

Thanks a lot, once I decide what kind I will produce I will start.
Ok Im running ILWT. It is amazing. I put a theme on. Very fast. But still some reason it just seems "boring". And the sms app on aosp/cm7 isnt as sexy.
yea i know exactly where youre coming from, I always want a newer prettier ROM... I wish someone would release one that just didnt look like it was android almost, and not like iphone, or anything, something with an original GUI.. yes i realize that's a lot to ask btw and not something I would be able to do myself but I think it'd be cool and get a lot of support! In the mean time the one I've found to be the freshest for me is MIUI because of how the themes affect like everything and really the launcher is what catches my eye, im kinda excited for the ROU launcher
i used to use cm7 and miui before. cm7 is lightweight rom, smooth and has excellent battery life. but it is lack of killer feature such as in its sms functionality, the smart dialer and etc. of course you can always download apps from market for that functions but it takes forever to load those apps on startup.
so i moved to miui, which i am currently running with bulletproof miui rom. it is rich with functionality, ridiculously-convenient-built in-features and interfaces, but consume more battery compared to cm7 unless you made certain tweak on its OC/UC. but its interface lacks of originality because it is obviously a mimic of iOS. but so far i m happy using miui.
i want to try sense based rom, but from what i learned, sense based is laggy. i miss sense interface though. look clean.
OK, if you think cm7 is boring (and I agree) I suggest you give MexDroid a spin. It was my DD for quite some time. The only reason it's not anymore is because I found Bulletproof MIUI. but I'm sure you've already tried MIUI. if not. Tun4f1sh's Bulletproof is the ONLY one I recommend.
More options would be most welcome I'm sure. I'm trying to figure out how to port roms from hd forums at the moment. The collective's absolution looks pretty sweet.

Neat, I like that idea. Kinda like having a nand backup without the pain of restoring everytime you want to switch.
I also champion Bulletproof, tun4 and tsubus seem to make sure this Rom stays a top contender. There is also talk of miXdroid Mod which is a miui meXdroid, looking forward to seeing how that one turns out

MIUI is great, iv been runing Bulletproof, it's definitely unique miui whit its virtuos oc controller witch cough my eye. But now i got ICS fever on me, not for the isc gui but some of the features. I stumbled on Galnet MIUI whit ics framework. runing fine, tried it for couple days, and the batterylife seems fine, maybe. Ill stick to this since it seems to work, and hope for updates whit possibly some new ics features.(its still same MIUI ui and functionality)
after we get somewhat working ICS, i will try that a little, and propably get back to MIUI.
I'm on Bulletproof MIUI at the moment but since the iPhone-esque UI makes my eyes hurt I installed LPP and some icon pack (can't remember the name). That way I still have the looks of Android but can combine with the impressive speed and flow of the Bulletproof MIUI ROM.
CM 7.1 for me lacks a little bit of polish visually (can't wait for CM9!) compared to Sense based ROMs and IMO MIUI offers that. I like Sense but any Sense based ROM I've tried has started to get laggy on me after a while.
Bulletproof MIUI for the win...I also like good old Cyanogen too, but for a nice mix of speed AND looks MIUI is tops for me
Love the look of Sense, but too slow and laggy
Check my thread, i got a bunch of videos of roms and see which one you like the best

in this few days, i have been testing 3 sense 3.5 rom, beatmode, affinity and rcmix.
for someone who has a very sensitive sense like me, i cant stand to wait for the phone to response due to insufficient memory in sense 3.5.
its time to go back to miui bulletproof.
I have tried many of them. CM and MIUI is cool, I just miss too many features from sense. Sense 3.0 is either laggy or will get laggy after a while. So, I always go back to my Virtuous Sense 2.0.0 NAND backup.
But: question here: why is this draining the battery soooo badly? Apart from this, this could be THE perfect ROM.

Sense is smooth and polished, but every custom Sense ROM that I have ever flashed is a battery hog, even the Sense 2.1 + 3.0 hybrids.
So my current favorite is G-lite 1.05 - it's like stock + overclocking + better than stock battery life (due to deep sleep)
I like sense and am currently running Virtuous Afinity but I can see me switching to an ASOP build of ICS when it's stable enough

Curious to know what you like most about ILWT, especially compared with mexdroid and miui?
Hi
Currently Im on Cyanogenmod 7.2.0 RC1 nightly 414 and while OK, the other day it had a HORRIBLE (unbearable) slowdown period. Even multiple restarts didnt help. Finally it seems it fixed itself but Ive looking for something new. I use Go Launcher if that makes any difference. Im into speed but I think Im going to go with stable over speed this time.
What ROM do you recommend? Also nothing broken (automatically discards all CM9 ROMs)
If you are into Sense UI, go for Virtuous ROM, stock ROM tweaked + enhancements. If CM7 works if you are into vanilla ROMs.
I have been using virtuous glite 2.0.1 its stable I had no issues at all and I get great battery life, plus its slightly overclocked. Gslim1.6 is also very good but I had better battery life with glite. Both roms are based on GB 2.3.4. Here is a good rom index thread it lists all G2-Desire Z roms

I don't think you have tried much of the Sense ROMs back then, or maybe you were doing something wrong. I have had quite a few stable and fast sense ROMs. Of course they were not as fast as vanilla ones, but it works, knowing that you are the type who wants more features in ROMs.

Have you tried a CM9 Rom lately? Don't let the Beta name scare you, I have found the latest andromadus audacity extremely reliable, and everything works. I actually think it has less bugs then my stock htc GB rom.

Same, though I'm still tweaking my SetCPU settings and such, I like EliteMod's ICS rom the most right now particularly in terms of features and responsiveness. I was trying the unofficial CM9beta13 for a couple days and that thing was eating battery like no-body's business. EliteMod seems to be much more tweaked as it's the same setup Nik3r is using for his own personal Desire-Z.
But far as stability goes, I would agree that going with a Ginger rom would be the best bet, ICS right now is still too experimental in my opinion.
I've never tried the CM7 version of EliteMod, only the official CM 7.2.0 which was ok-ish for me. The EliteMod ICS Rom to me feels much faster and responsive than even the stock CM7rom, and I much prefer QuickPix app the EliteMod uses over that slow-arse Gallery app in CM7.
I would recommend andromadus mimicry (ics) its pretty stable and everything works (for me at least). It has the ics specific flaws like scrambled text in app drawer but launcher restart fixes it. Using this rom for 2 weeks and had this text issue 1 time. Battery is good also
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk 2
You should try Elitemod cm7 it has never failed me, all the features you need, speed and stabiity plus amaizing battery life. If you wanna go ICS get the cm9 elitemod, but it is still a bit buggy.
I tried a lot of roms, and I always came back to ILWT CM7 (not new versions). Sense roms are quite good but not on Desire Z (too small amount of ram memory, multitasking on sense roms are poor - even on sense 2.1 roms with supercharger script). I waiting for stable CM9 (and yes i tried all versions of CM9 but text glitches and manually change apn to send/receives mms, makes me nervous).
That is only my subjective opinion
Anything CM7 based is very stable. Probably the most stable of all. Stay away from CM9 or anything ICS on this phone for another few months in terms of stability.

inviato da HTC Desire Z
For most stable overall rom I would recommend the latest ILWT CM7. For most stable ICS rom I would recommend the Andromadus Mimicry rom.
Somewhere between getting stuck when coming back from an app and annoying keyboard issues within the messenger combined with the EOL status...
So what are the options people? I'm currently playing with Go Launcher and a Sense 4.0 theme, which oddly feels faster while being more customizable. I didn't care for the default Go Launcher theme it rubbed me wrong, probably the only part of Sense I still like is the icons and presentation of apps. Thinking about going to a rooted stock with custom kernel or a custom rom with custom kernel. I don't know, really confused right now

Love the hardware, not loving the software.
My personal favorite launcher is GoLauncher over Sense. Both Supreme Sense XII and newSENSE are great ROMs but I know what you mean. Here's what I did recently on Supreme Sense XII.

Well the Software is actually what gives you the Freedom to do whatever you want. It all depends on the combination of Rom, Kernel, and Mods you choose. Here are just a few Themes and Skins I've Ported, or helped with .
Wow Prboy1969 those are prety awesome! Is it possible to get the dock in the first pic on Sense 3.5 or 3.0?

I lost my appreciation for sense as soon as I rooted and dove into CM7.
It came back a little bit for sense 4.0, but meh.
I thought I loved sense until I tried AOSP roms lol

Sense 3.0 should be no issue. Sense 3.5 I have not tried yet.

i liked some of the features in sense but sense overall just plain sucks and especially with the reloads everytime you go back to the homescreen.
recently ive been addicted to the ice cream sandwich builds coming out (AOKP has been running the best so far for me, with a few minor bugs like calls not coming through (but thats what texting is for LOL))

That's why we have choices. So everyone can be happy . Myself I'm a Sense kinda guy, cause it only makes Sense :cyclops: . But that being said, I've come across quite a few very good non-Sense Roms.
The email, messaging, and people apps are what mainly keep me on Sense. The way I use them only works in Sense. If the AOSP versions worked similarly I'd likely be useing something else. They're a lot easier to port.
Sense seems fairly bloated to me. I love how native Android ICS and JB have evolved and become more smooth and streamlined. I recommend checking out the ICS custom ROMs on this board (I'm on kushdeck's pb21 build still). I would like to try out preludedrew's new Evervolv JB ROM, but I get stuck in a boot loop after installing it

That is kind of where I think I was going before trying another modded out ROM. Think I just want to try vanilla with a fancy kernel. Some things that I know I like and would like to keep, WiMax (even though I rarely use it, no use paying for it if I can't use it), Keyboard lights as I work a night shift I inevitably have to hit up the phone and keyboard at night and the elusive landscape mode. Think I might be stuck on gingerbread because of this but I'm gonna look around.
Is App2sd a kernel level function or does the UI need to recognize it too?

A2SD has to do with the Kernel, as it determines the Ext. But it also usually has to baked into the Rom. Then enabled after you flash. But you can use DarkTremors A2SD Script to add and enable it on most Roms that it's not baked into.
About your Sig. I say go for it.
