Batch file rename? - Droid X General

Hey y'all, sorry if this is a repost, I was having trouble with the search engine on my phone for some reason. I have a request for an app. I have a couple hundred photos on my sdcard that I would like to rename. I can not find a single app on the android market that will let me select multiple photos by thumbnails and then rename them with a progressive numeric order all at once. (for example: "fishing trip 01" etc) I know this must be a fairly simple app to design for someone who is good with linux/unix. if something already exists that does this please let me know, because I have searched and searched with no luck. thanks in advance.

I think this will help u

Replacing System apps- topic changed for obvious reasons

People are probably going to flame this thread for me saying this but what the heck.....
there have been countless threads about how to remove, replace, and/or delete system apps and their functions. And with a little searching you will find there are many answers.
At the least I should say, is that system apps can be removed, however; there are certain ones that should not be removed because it will break your system....that's been established already, duh?, yes I know...but here is what my point is to cover:
The system apps that were known to be removed with no problem are calendar, clock, IM, mail, work email, and other little third party apps added to the system by whatever Dev made the rom,
and the ones recommended that SHOULD NOT be removed are main phone functioning apps such as..Mms, Music, Dialer, Contacts, Camera and so on ad so forth,
Well that is correct. Those can't be removed, but yes they can be replaced and no it will not break the system.
I use Handcent sms as my default Mms, the original system version is removed.
I use Meridian music player as my default Music app, the original system version is removed,
I use Camera zoom Pro, as my original Camera app, the original system version is removed.
So in a nutshell, I basically chose all the stable 3rd party phone functioning apps that I use daily and made them replacements to the default system versions, so I don't have two music apps, two message apps, two camera apps and so on.
Did it break my stability?, Crash my phone?, Cause crazy reboots? Screw with the incoming and outgoing calls, tex, and mms?
The answer is no, no, no, and NO. Everything is fine. I have been doing this for a long time now, so this is not some new technique that I have only tested once, on one rom.
I have replaced every system app except dialer, there is really no replacement for that in my opinion that is worthy. Contacts I have replaced before with a 3rd party app called phone book. It worked. But it crashed, because Contact and Dialer go hand in hand, so to successfully replace one you would have to replace the other...my recommendation, don't screw around with those. Besides, Devs implement constant updates and new features to those in every build anyway.
I will more than happily share my method of replacement in a new thread over in the the apps forum if anyone is interested, but feel free to share your opinions, experiences, and your own personal methods here.....
and if enough users request, I will create a "How to" for everyone later.
What's your point?

What's yours?
My point is that your "discovery" is one of the VERY BIGGEST defining design features of the android platform. This is nothing new and nothing that even lacks understanding. WE ALREADY KNOW ALL THIS!!!
I suggest that you go and read all the platform documentation. Its all there.

yes, but quite a lot of people don't know this and would be scared to delete mms.apk. jesus christ, do you EVER think outside the box? please, please, please, get rid of that narrow mind of yours and expand your train of thought.

Thats a great link by the way^^ but still only explains how to delete, it doesn't state how to successfully replace system apps.
Couldn't you just replace the files (/system/app) in any ROM and resign and flash?
that seems easiest to me.

BINGO!^^ that's exact same way I do it, however there is another method I'd like to share, just don't have the time to type it up,
note to those who don't know when replacing the apps, rename the apk the same as the original, so if you want GDE for your home replacement, remove the original Launcher.apk then drop in GDE and rename it Launcher.apk....very important step, you will get unstoppable reboots and freezing.
Its called Terminal Emulator.
mount system and remove the apps in the system/app directory. virtually everyone knows this. There was a post on how to do this in the general section. fin.

dude read the topic, Im talking about replacing not removing, so if you're going to post commands then put one up on how to replace an app already running from data partition to system/data replacing the one already there I.E. handcent(data partition) replaces Mms.(system/data)....otherwise you're not helping, No sh**t, I know everyone knows that but dont know this....so
for those who don't give a dam for codes and commands, or screwing with zips and resigning...patiently wait and I will post easiest method- you can do it right from your phone, without even rebooting!
I'll try to have it up later today.
ehh basically the same thing only you would push the apk's to the system/app directory.
Or you can just put em in the data/app directory and delete the apk in the system/app directory. still not that hard =/ a lot of people already know how to do this as well.
There are a lot of easy methods. sorry if I came out rude and sarcastic its my nature =/
just let him write his tut
then you can
say he has reinvented the wheel
call him a plagiarist
give him a pat on the back for making it nice and easy for noobs to understand
Well I wasn't assuming that I had re-invented something or made an all new discovery...Im pretty sure everything around here has had atleast a dozen how to threads, and everyone, after a little research should pretty much know how to do everything, I admit
So I don't want to come off as some obnoxious asshole that think he knows everything, because Im not, I just wanted to share my opinion, the whole reason I became a member of xda,
So those of you who already know how to do this, then ease off, don't jump down my back just because you know of other threads and topics in relation, or you have easier methods and how to's or whatever, I'm not starting a conspiracy here...geez, I make one topic that's been seen before, and now it's like I can't express my freedom of discussion just because someone else did first. That's a load of crap and you guys know so.
Anyway here is my tut:
For those of ya with some type of root explorer this would be the preferable procedure for you
go to the /data/apps directory select the apk that you would like to use for replacement, such as Meridian music player, rename it to music.apk
then copy
navigate to system/data/apps directory, paste...it should say it already exist and would you like to replace click yes.
Done. Do the same for any other system app, by renaming it as original, copy and replace.
Be sure to put system in Read/Write or this won't work.
That's it. Simple, brief, and no problem.
For those who also put their input into this thread I thank you for your time..your knowledge is noted and appreciated.

Help with different kind of things...

Hello!
I had my X10 since 31 march (releasedate in Sweden)
But I Wonder:
1 If I want to save an attachment from mms, is there a way to choose where I want to save it? (Everytime I'm about to save, not just choose a standard folder) And I want to change filename to.
2 How to send files through bluetooth?
3 How to remove images from apps/games from Mediascape?
4 If X10 is rooted now, is there a way to remove Moxier?
5 Facerecognition, it works well to bind pictures to a contact. But sometimes suddenly all names are gone and I have to bind the pictures again. Is it just for me this happens?
6 Last software update seems to increase my batterylife dramatically? Is it so for everyone?
7 Since X10 should be a rather quick phone, why does it take so long time for browsing pictures?
8 When apps are installed, are they stored on local memory or on SDcard? Is there a way to choose?
More to come..
If you try searching separately you´ll find almost all the answers (if not all). After that, you may ask for the rest.
Please, follow the rules, and search before asking, please

And so on.. Have searched already. Much problems about searching is that often I or someone else misspells word or dont know wich word to search for. I mean, ask anyone out in street what Froyo is...
But we users that are in to learning android arent that familiar with this OS as experienced users here.
Very often the Title of the thread doesnt say anything either.
So searching isnt that easy for everyone!
For 3 can you not use this method

1. I really doubt that's possible with the standard SMS app.
2. Open the file you want to send (or long press on it in some file manager and click send), click the little envelope, click Bluetooth.
3. Not sure.
4. @adb shell rm /system/app/mox*
5. I have noticed that too, I'd like suggestions on how to fix that.
6. I noticed a significant improvement after upgrade too.
7. My images load instantly...Are you using a different app for viewing them?
8. They're stored on phone memory. I think after root, there is a way to install to SD if you want to.
I think that if you had wroten that you had searched with no resuts in your first post it will be better, dude. I did not mean to annoy you, just it seemed too many questions with no
answer in this forum to me. Sorry for that.
PS. I'm out now, but i'll try to help u when i get back home.

Phone doesn't recognize files directly

Hello XDA people,
When i put files on my SD card. Android doesn't see the files right away. Most of the time after a couple of boots. This is really irritating me. I unmount the device but still no files.
Does someone have the answer for this? Searched the crap out of google, but couldn't find anything useful.
And another question, when i have wallpapers. They show up like i want them to be on my background. But android gives you this retarded cut out tool. That enlarges the wallpaper. Does anyone know a good app to get rid or replace this?
Thanks.
You do know you can enlarge the area that the wallpaper thing tries to cut out? just drag an edge of the yellow box and it will expand it. Can't really help with the files not appearing tho, sorry.
Try "wallpaper set and save" - it's in the market and it's free. Or get Zedge (which is BRILLIANT!) That too seems to be able to set wallpapers a lot better than the native method. You just can't select your own wallpapers with that.
The other problem is something I've seen on the forums a few times. Do a search and you may find some answers.
Still cant find a solution for the file problem. Please someone help
@ johncmolyneux.
Yes i know Zedge it's good. Thanks for the solution for the wallpapers.
Anyone????
I think you have to set up ADB. That was the only thing i could do to get rid of this problem But ABD has it's benefits, believe me
Here's a guide.

[Q] SecContacts.apk contacts images

Can someone help me with this, I moved from an S3 to an S5 quite a while ago and finally got round to theming my device but I can't find these horrid images to replace them with what I want to use.
I have seen some themes where they have been replaced so they must be identified somewhere, if anyone can tell me where to find them or which xml to change to identify what I want to use instead of these it would be gratefully appreciated.

Images, plural? You didn't describe what set of images you are alluding to or circle them on your screen shot. Or attach a copy of the apk you are working with. Presumably you mean the default head shot for a non-customized contact.. but what other images are you talking about?
In the absence of those crucial details, all I can suggest is that you open the apk as a .zip archive and go to
\res\drawable
\res\drawable-sw359dp-land-xxhdpi
\res\drawable-sw359dp-xxhdpi
\res\drawable-sw360dp-land-xxhdpi
\res\drawable-sw360dp-xxhdpi
Scroll though the image directories and replace the ones that offend you.

Thanks for the response, I thought the images in the clip were pretty clear as they are the default ones, I have tried all the images in the apk, as you say the ones here are the default ones, I have done all the others InCall.apk and the ones in the SecContacts.apk all default images have been changed as I want them.
The ones in the clip are the default ones that appear in the stock contacts list, favorites list and logs list, they were easy to find on the S3 but not on the S5, I have changed all the png and pkm files that relate to images and pictures in this apk.but these still remain stock
The apk in question is detailed in the title, I am not new to theming I have been doing it a long time, I know what to look for except in this case I can't find these in the apk at all.

QuickPic code share for storage increase

I wasn't aware of this app until it was pre-installed on a custom flash game in place of the default gallery.
I don't know how long they'll be around for, for such a massive photo storage cloud but the app has support for various other clouds and samba support as well. I initially wasn't that interested since I use Foldersync but I would like to try it out as my gallery for now, and that said it seemed I may as well get the bazillion Gig storage option. Doing it here keeps me from spamming my friends.
From the looks of it, you only need to get one referral, so if someone takes mine, please say so and repost a code assuming one is available, if not then I suppose its simply a good place for people to post who want space; referees get it as well therefore I'm unclear how it works in this regard.
Hey! I'm trying to get 1,000GB free cloud space, but I need your help!

Thanks for the heads up. I hadn't read the store comments because indeed it is how I found it. The interface and functionality are still good. Hopefully I can neuter any services and permissions I don't like after moving it out of /system (and it irritates me that ROM cookers put things there at all).
It's been quite some time since I had a gallery app with a folder view that was complete and was also able to delete photos when I told it to. Hopefully I can either find something else or get this one to do all of the above after removing it from /system and installing normally.
I only briefly, just now, by the way, and I didn't find all the file sharing support it advertises, including Samba but assuming the cloud space is in fact upgradable, another layer of redundancy would be desirable.
We shall see how things turn out...
EDIT: Permissions were fine. New code since I used the one I posted
