How to increase free space of my SD Card? - Click General

I've already installed CM7 and am trying to install Sygic and successfully installed. But when I ran Sygic it said that SD Card must have atleast 500 MBs free space. I observed that my SD Card'd only 47x MBs. How can I increase free space of my SD Card (There're any programs installed yet and I used 2 GBs SD Card)? Can I remove clockworkmod folder b'cos they used more space?

Inside clockworkmod folder you have a folder named backup, if you have done any backups of your device then they will be there, they are pretty big so they might free some space if you copy them to your pc or delete them.. I suggest you copy them to your PC because you never know when will you need them

Yes,it works.Your instruction helps me a lot and sygic (aura) still didn't work. But Ndrive and iGo can work but still looking for new updated map.
Thanks.

I have an absolutely superb offline nav maps of your, and all other surrounding countries only 200 MB heavy, and a fenomenal piece of android software called iGo with which I`m thrilled. Think you should try it too.

You can download from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853197&page=2 .

Do you have removed all "update-cm-....zip" from the sdcard?
It takes 70-80 MB.
Be sure you have a copy in your PC.

flash to run TT7? not sure what to do about mem allocation

Hi all.
I've been happily runnning Axel's last ROM since it came out, with no major issues, but just recently decided to install TomTom7 as an upgrade from TT6.
Whilst the app itself was far better, the lag following maps was unbearable. After some research, I've then disabled all but the most essential POIs, and then decided to try and free up some memory on my device (was running with around 26MB free in programs).
However, i then went on a little new software and update mission, (installing everything to the HDSC though), bar a couple of minor very small apps. I uninstalled my Kaiser Home screen and Dialer, updating to the latest B&W Home, and DxC iPhone DIaller 3.5e ("repeat call bug" fixed versions).
Now TomTom7 won't load (insufficient memory)!!
So, I've gone back and:
1. Uninstalled every program I could do without, and also uninstalled any existing programs listed in \Program Files and moved them to the SC.
2. Manually gone through the OS and removed left behind files and folders, and anything deemed not necessary.
3. Ran the (demo version) of SK Tools, clearing all caches etc., and also optimizing for memory.
4. Tried running without any home screen Plugins (i.e. blank start screen!)
4. Researched on here for HOURS trying to find some way to manually reallocate memory between Storage and Programs, as I have tons of Storage memory left!
5. Researched for ways to uninstall programs I may have installed to the Device originally, as uninstall only lists those installed to Storage. Is it possible at all??
After all this, I'm currently sitting after a soft reset, with:
Storage: Total 66.55 Use 30.30 Free 36.25
Programs: Total 48.97 Use 26.93 Free 22-24
I need to either
a. reallocate storage
b. uninstall things i may have accidentally installed to Device (have aready deleted \prog files folders)
c. flash to a completely new lite ROM and reinstall /setup everything
I really don't want to do the last one as in all other respects I'm happy with the device's performance, but if necessary, can someone recommend a very lite, stable WM 6.1 ROM (may as well upgrade to 6.1 if doing it), or as with everything MS does 6.1 eat more space..?
Any suggestions and thoughts on three options, and indeed on how TomTom7 is performing on their device welcome.
NB - my mini 4GB HCSD card is close to full - 160MB free - but surely this has no impact on working memory?
thanks for any responses, I must have spent at least 10 hours trawling through threads with no joy

After a softreset i have 28 mb free ram
but tomtom 7 needs only so max 10 mb free ram.
Deinstall tomtom 7 an remove all your tomtom files from the sd kart and the device (but not the map) do a softreste and install tomtom 7 again.
TT7 only needs 10MB free?!?
wow, thought it would be more than that (had tried finding out and couldn't get hold of the info). everyone seems to blaming slow responding maps on lack of memory...
will try removing TT7 as you say and reinstall - anyone know whether you can install the TT7 app to the card as well as the maps?

The best whatr you can do is to install tomtom 7 on the Device (it is faster) and the maps on the sd card.
it needs 12 mb on the device and max MAXXXXXXXX --> 10 MB free ram
cool - have already got it working from the SD card tonight after re-install (no idea why it was giving me an out of mem eror when working fine with less before). Will test tomorrow, then try moving it back to device if sluggish.
App isn't slow in general, just on the GPS keeping up with the map... maybe a Radio update and 6.1 will help anyway.
Thanks
TT7 works for me now...
test ok on latest karmba_a rom with western and central europe 7.20 maps...
didn't need to do something special about memory...works like a charm
Right, this just gets stranger...
Installed it again as mentioned above - worked for a couple of times then back to the
"Unable to start.
Not enough memory is available" error.
So, today I flashed the device witht he latest Radio and Tytn's STD rom, and reinstalled TT7 again.
Guess what? it worked for the forst few times again, and then back to the same old error!!!!
I've no idea what's going on here...
update
after re-flsahing again, I tried downloading the free map, and all seemed fine for a bit.
so i spent ages messing about getting my original maps working again, and added a few more progs, then... TT7 stopped working again with the not enough free memory error.
Now, fubby thing is, a game I installed wouldn't start with the same not enough memory error, only this one reported that it needed a minimum of 16MB to run. I'm currently showing between 22- 25MB free RAM on average, so it can't be that.
I'm now convinced that something in my phone is incorrectly reporting memory usage. Seeing as this error has occurred before and after flashing (new ROM, new radio), with two different programs now, does this mnean that it may be some odd hardware error?
I really need a techy expert on this one, maybe is there another more general tech forum where I might get a wider response? Any idea Mods?
thanks
Dom
I've the same problem
When I've installed the TOMTOM, it's worked for few times, but after inexplicably it's stopped working with the message ""Unable to start.
Not enough memory is available" error but I don't have idea of the causes.
you'll be pleased to know that this was an early symptom of my trinity dying... it started locking and frequently needing battery removal causing a factory reset, more and more often... to the point where it would reset twice a day.
I suspect faulty main memory
Ive seen this issue on my Trinity, as I recall it has something to do with favorites list, I removed it and let it rebuild it and it worked great. Ill go home and check it again. I have 7.450 (9028) TT, maps 720.1803 working on mine. I even was able to use my old fav list from TT6.0. I had to let it churn and work for almost 4-5 hours to come to the Warning screen, but Ive been looking for the 7.5 or 7.6 files to test my theories on the memory issue with it.

Free Trial of Route 66 Mobile 8 with xv6800

For thoes that would like to test a gps program, Route 66 Mobile 8 works great with the built in gps. I downloaded the "upgrade" from 66.com, "support", "free updates" : M8_WM_Update_8.0.4420.exe
It really isn't an update, it's the full program.
It won't install directly to the phone. It will ask you to incert your memory card into a card reader & then it will write the data to it.
Since I don't have a micro sd card reader, I allowed it to install on a standard sd card & then copied everything from the card to my phone.
Next, remove the card from the phone & incert it back into the phone & Route 66 will install.
You can then download maps @ https://secure.66.com/store/ or simply use your phone to download the maps.
To run a free 15 day trial on the maps, click on purchase & you'll see the free trial.
I don't get it... the maps cost money or the app costs money?
Or both?
If both, that's retarded- mapopolis was a free app and you had to pay for individual apps. That's the way it should be. Or, at the very least, purchase the package and get maps + app together like everyone else.
What did u get out of this? A free GPS app, or did u still need to buy maps?

Good question, all I see is a place to buy the program with the maps; eg: Mobile 8 - North America [DVD] $149.99

What did I get out of it ? I got to try the N. America maps before I purchase it. From the looks of it, I could just purchase the maps now for only
49.95 EUR . (about $73.50 US) or order the dvd for $149.99
At least if I don't like their program, I'm out nothing.
Maybe try this link to get the app and then have it download the map to the phone.

Yes, that is the correct download to install.
It reads: "This update will only work if you have bought a "ROUTE 66 Mobile 8 WM" product."
However it will still install the full version with no maps. (It does include a worthless world map)

having google maps cache for when you don't have reception or gps would be a nice feature you might wanna put in a request to google the developers there might be able to implement it
or you can use gpsVP (freeware). it uses google maps and saves the maps on your phone. has a desktop version too, so you can download the maps to your phone from your desktop, and you wont have to use airtime to download them when you are on your way.
the program has some nice features like tracking, waypoints, traffic density etc..
on my phone I need to have GPSProxy runnşng for gpsVP to work. GPSProxy is a neat little freeware program too...

There's also virtualearthmobile, but development has stopped i believe
Tracky is another that uses and caches google maps. It is not free, and the shareware is basically useless. It only runs for 15 minutes at a time, and resets the cache upon closing.
I found it a while ago on Aximsite.
Can the google cache file be moved to the storage card to conserve space?
it's no use of finding a way to move it to storagecard since basically u cannot use it without internet connection...
I don't understand what you mean by that.

hm, 30 MB free memory on my device and 3 GB free mem on storage card - I´d love to move the cache to the storage card
but apparently there is no way
I guess that having things stored locally is against the very concept of what Google aims to achieve... I don't think they'll ever release a version where the maps can be stored locally... it must all be drawn 'live' from the web... eventually perhaps data connections will be free though
I think that must be possible to use google maps offline, you can find a lot of manuals on the net to do this with the iphone.
Use other programs with dowloaded maps from google?? Yes...but what about the gsm location? This is really importat to me becouse I don't have gps in my htc touch.
Using google maps offline? anybody knows how to do it??
If the iphone can...
Cheers
I think the point of storing the cache on the storage card is not so much being able to use GoogleMaps offline, but more so to conserve the device storage space and use the larger storage card space. Similar to how Windows Mobile Live Search can store the cache on the storage card. I would be interested in this as well.

I manage to download both google maps and gpsvp on my handphone (X1), but I have no idea what's the next step.

[Q] Storing data on SD card

Is there a way to store files from programs on the SD card. I am using Co-Pilot GPS and when I install the program on my tablet (from the SD card) it tells me to download the maps. The maps are also on the SD card but Co_pilot can't see them. I had tried to download direct to the tablet but the file is too big for internal memory so I had to download only my state. This has happened with several Apps that I tried to load. Is there a way to redirect the data to the SD and have the program recognise it. Do I need Dexters download??
Thanks,
John

Sorry... I don't think anyone has figured out how to get app to work with the SD card yet. eLocity/Stream TV has not addressed the issue. I do believe Dexter is looking into it.
For now I have CoPilot running on my g -tablet, as I don't think it would fit onto my eLocity. You may be able to fit the US maps, but just barely (again just maybe, if the stars align just right). I believe it gives you the option to just download regions or states.
On a device with such little storage available this is a BIG deal!

Does Android have the ability to utilize regular Linux Links? If so, maybe you can install it minimally first with nothing else on the device and then move the directory to the SD card then link to it and add other maps. If that works it would free up local space and allow you to install other apps.

apps2sd+ for the Play?

Guys i love my xperia play, but the 200mb of internal storage really isnt enough for me, seen as though most of us are rooted and have busybox installed, is it not possible to get an apps2sd+ script working on our devices? or will we have to wait for custom roms that have init.d support?? anyone have any ideas

Couldnt you just go in settings then application and move any apps to the sd card?
The PLAY has built in apps2sd
Only 30% of the apps can be moved to the sd card, using androids move to sd function, apps2sd+ moves the whole /data/app/ directory and the DC. Take asphalt 6 and lets golf 2 for example both thoes games are 40mb and cannot be moved, thats half my internal storage gone with 2 games lol copilot is 30mb adobe air is 20mb ..... all of these would take a few mbs each with apps2sd+

Where can I get apps2sd - or rather who is it by if its on the market. I've had a search on the market and theres a few with similar names in there, but none that look like one the forces apps to the sd card, only ones that alert you when apps can be moved to sd.
If its not on the market, can you link to it at all please?

Try link2sd, it works diffrently to other app2sd apps, you will need to make an ext partition on your sd card though
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.buak.Link2SD&hl=en
I'm using app2sd, and it works great for most apps, however there are many apps that the program just wont allow you to move. I'm on an R800x via Verizon. Like I said I cant move the bloatware and some other apps but I'd say 50% of the apps I DL will move to my SD... I've only got about 100mb so I'm hoping a root or an alternative way to remove bloatware surfaces soon.

Ashphalt can be moved to the sd card using Titanium backup (free) not sure about lets golf but any gameloft game i have intsalled can be moved to sd by Titanium and they still work fine for me. (Ashphalt is now like 500kb not 30mb)
If you have Titanium backup (paid version) you can try converting the app to a user app and then move it to the sd and see if there are any problems with the app. I dont have the paid version but i have seen people have moved the pre-installed games onto the sd card with this method.
I know this is probably not the answer you are seeking but it will gain you some more mb's

Fire up adb and use the pm setInstallLocation 2 command, nearly every app can be moved to the sd card then, including all the gameloft games

I use the apps2sd pro app, it lets you move apps to and from /data/ with just a long press, you can even set an ignore list
