How about you try to be more clear and coherent. Explain what happened in steps.
I really don't understand why you would waste YOUR TIME and Asus' time by RMAing when you still have NvFlash access.
Do you return your computer if a piece of software doesn't work on it?

OK lets try this again...
The left hand section of my screen has stopped working (touch wise)
I am only getting by at the moment thanks to my keyboard dock.
This is the reason i need to RMA my tab.
I was running Prime 1.4 but used NV flash to return to stock but am now without a stock recovery.
Any ideas how to reinstall stock recovery??
When I try to boot into recovery I get an android with a big exclamation mark in the middle of it.

Depending on which nvflash utility u used, nvflash to stock restores stock rom and stock recovery. Try using another nvflash to stock utiltity that is floating around here.

So far I have tried 3 different NVFlash utilities.
One with 3.1, one with 3.2 and now the ICS one. All of which are giving me the same result!
Would it matter not having stock recovery for RMA?

I know for a fact that the nvflash for ics restores the stock recovery, as i used it on my tf. Are u flashing the correct version for your hardware? US, WW, etc? You would be taking a huge risk of doing rma without stock recovery because that will be the smoking gun that you rooted/modded your device, which technically voids your warranty. Go to the development section and look for the thead for easy unroot. See if that restores stock recovery for you.
Edit: looks like that thread got moved to the general section. Look for easiest way to unroot and follow directions.

Correct, i didnt catch that comment.

I dont want to add to the confusion, but isnt that what Stock Recovery looks like, ie Android with exclamation mark
I used nvflash previously to get back to stock rom and recovery and thats what I saw when booting into recovery
This is from another forum
http://www.transformerforums.com/forum/asus-transformer-general-discussions/3652-what-does-stock-recovery-look-like.html
EDIT: Sorry you guys beat me to its "Missed it by THAT MUCH:

Now I feel super special lol thanks for the info!
I thought stock recovery was a simpler version of CWM with some sort menu to navigate.
Now I can pack this POS up and send it back for more repairs.
Thanks again!

Please can you elaborate...or point me in right direction......recovery is now only accessible by flashing it first....phone just wont do anything
download a 2.3.3 nandroid backup and restore to it using clockwork recovery
ignore odin.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884093
update to 2.3.3 using http://android.clients.google.com/p...2cf141e6a.signed-soju-ota-102588.f182cf14.zip
or just download CM7 and flash that along with gapps (wipe dalvik/cache/factory)
and your phone is not bricked. the definition of a bricked phone is a phone who cannot access recovery/fastboot/etc.. can access absolutely nothing
Well, he does say that his attempts to flash a rom always abort...
OP, we need more details.
Are you using Clockwork Recovery? Which version? Try an older/newer version...
What ROM are you trying to flash? Have you tried others?
What happens when you try a normal boot? You say you get as far as the first setup screen?
Have you tried a Factory Reset of the phone from within recovery (stock or clockwork)?

I think it might be okay now ....after titanium said busybox was installed....i dont think it was done correectly.....after downloading busy box from market....recovery seems to be sticking rather then reverting back to android. That's normal. See below:
It's normal to lose the recovery after the reboot, the steps to flash the CW recovery needs to be repeated every time you want to access the CW recovery.
This is due the build in protection in 2.3
As some one pointed it out on another topic, the good thing about this is that you'll never lose the stock recovery of 2.3, thus minimizing the chance of a bricked phone.
If you want to the CW recovery to remain permanently, you'll need to rename /etc/install-recovery.sh to something thing else

Root 8.4.4.11

Hi everyone,
Do we have a reliable method to root 8.4.4.11 and install cwm? There are reports of Pure Root causing some brickages. Can anyone confirm? Is someone working on a new root?
Thanks!
eh.. if you keep reading that thread it appears it was just a bad power button. There are several confirmations of Pure Root working oin 8.4.4.11
didn't work for me, tried it few times, every time it will stuck on the boot screen and won't do anything. have to flash back to stock, and i'm sure my power button is working fine. any one have any ideas?

NO DO NOT DO THIS! I just bricked my transformer! Now to unbrick. How do you flash back to stock? Nvflash recovery?
Are you sure you are not in APX mode? APX mode is complete black screen. Hold power down for 10 seconds then release then hold down for 4.

Hi, I had the same problem.
I used nvflash. Here is the link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15721696&postcount=284
This will unbrick and install prime 1.5. You will need to root it following the instructions here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125714
Then you can revert back to stock and unroot using the instructions here if you want to install the update:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093403
I installed clemsyn's rom which gives me a rooted, overclocked rom with the .11 update.
follow one of the unroot guide that use nvflash to go back to the stock. that's the only thing i found working. also, after flash back to stock i can't get OTA anymore, have to update to 8.4.4.11 manually...also, after goback to stock, try to wipe the data though stock recovery, might help if you have more problem with it.
I've updated with pure root with no problem at all.

There are many ways to get out of this situation. Get all the tools (adb, ROM zip files, etc.). Read posts in the thread. Ask for help there.
Good luck.
Put your transformer in APX mode by hold the power button & volume up.. If it turns back on do it again, make sure you have you sync cable plugged in and drivers installed. Now that your in APX download this stock rom then root it with viper (option 1 in viper)

Yes there's a fix in there towards the bottom of the first post.
If you want to flash another recovery, turn your device on into recovery, connect it to your computer and use adb to push the file to your internal storage.
It should be something like "adb push filename.zip /data/media" then you can use the borked recovery you're on to flash the one you pushed.

His problem is with it getting stuck in recovery, which is a known issue with Koush's 5.5.0.4, simple fix with adb. No need to reflash the whole rom.

I'm running a rooted 3.2 stock by Timmy Dean.
I'm happy I didn't jump the gun when I Saw the update last night, because it seems I would have truly been screwed.
What I would like to know is if a rooted 3.2 can simply be unrooted. Seems this would the simplest thing to do.
Thanks in advance for any and all help.
Apparently the root doesn't matter. It will just be removed when we install the ota ICS. What worries me is recovery. Because it has to boot into a recovery to install ICS. I had CWM installed then flashed to stock by acer recovery tool in the play store. But when I manually boot into recovery, I get a exclamation point inside a triangle. What recovery are you guys running?

I was happily running timmydean's rooted 3.2.1 based on the leaked OTA. The ICS upgrade came through and installed just fine. No loss of data and the programs I tried all worked. I was on stock 4.0.4 unrooted.
However, I'm now borked. I rebooted into recovery (Power, Vol -) to see about rooting via the backdoor I'd installed. I had thor's 1.7 Touch CWM recovery installed. I got some weird message that recovery was broken. (Don't recall the exact msg.)
After that, it hung on the "android" screen. Soft-bricked.
So I did a factory reset (Power, vol+, rock screen switch) and ended up back on 3.2.1. Now, the Settings > About > Check update results in the "Network coverage is currently poor. Please move to a location with better coverage to continue." message.
My WiFi is fine, speedtest.net reports a 20 Mbps download. All other apps function well. I'm pulling a DCHP address from my router.
I'm fairly sure this is a badly-worded error message from Acer and actually refers to server overload or some other issue on their end.
Also, installing the latest Acer Iconia Update preps the system for ICS. At one point, installing it allowed the update to proceed, but not to ICS. Uninstalling/reinstalling that update seemed to jog the system at one time.
So I tried wiping data/cache/dalvik and went back to stock 3.2. Same error message when updating. Wiped again and went back to stock 3.0.1. Same error message.
So I'm stuck and am going to give it a few days to see if Acer can sort out their upgrade path. If not, I will probably load CM9 or Thor's ICS ROM. (I do have a Nandroid, so I can get back to where I was pre-ICS.)
All in all, I'm very disappointed in Acer for borking my tablet.
________
Update: So now a day later, the "poor coverage" message was replaced by an "update available". Installed A500_7.014.03_com_gen1, after reboot, another update A500_7.014.15_com_gen1 installed. I am now on stock 3.2.1.
System update shows "Your device is up to date".
Will see what tomorrow brings, but this is certainly frustrating.

Could you guys running the backdoor and still rooted please try this:
1) Try and capture the build no. of the update
2) See if the update will download BUT do not install yet
3) Go to /cache/fota/ and find the zip -
4) copy it to yr external sd
5) post back the build no.
thanks!!!
Procedure for manual install:
1/ rename the file as : update.zip
2/ place the file on the micro sd card
3/ turn off the tablet
4/ press the down volume key and the power button at the same time untill the tablets turns on
5/ the iconia will start the upgrade process by itself.
OR just redownload the update and it install

I had trouble when i reverted to stock in the weekend
and it was a bit of a process to get the OTA's to 3.2.1.
I did manage to hold "full root" but had to revert a couple of times
by putting stock recovery back and using backdoor .
I accidentally factory reset and everything went a bit pear shaped from there...oops!!
Im still waiting for the OTA ICS - getting network coverage error -one good thing
is my partners tab is only 5 days old and still pure factory,
her tab shows same error so at least we know its not root/backdoor problem
So yeah if u gonna take the OTA best to get rid of the backdoor unless you wanna play guinea pig for us all>>>>
dunno why we aint found one of those yet
I dont think you can cause too much of a problem where a "hard reset" pwr/vol -/rotation lock/ combo wont fix...you can then root from there.

hi 3d0rr!!
i think those of us with the backdoor should be meticulous if/when taking the OTA.
we shouldnt need to unroot and use stock recovery as the ota should get rid of that in the flash. But to ensure a stress free OTA it may pay to do it anyway.
i know you previously told me u were stock gen 1 - but is that from factory, just finished reading a very interesting post regarding the different 'gens' so i for one am sticking with factory build gen :just for the official OTA anyway:

now m8, sorry to confuse you, that wasnt my intention, but i try to make sure that i;m not suggesting things which may end with you or others borkin or brickin yr tab. timmydean's root method also allows you to install a backdoor to re-root after accepting an OTA. You have to manually install it during the rooting process, so you would know if you had it.

timmyDean How to root stock 3.2.1
Summary:
Version V4 is the same as V3 with the only difference being that there is a NEW backdoor script which has some additional features to protect root(#) from getting broken when you do an OTA. I also applied these to this flash image so you wouldn't have to add the additional protection yourself. V4 also has the drivers for XP included. However, when taking an OTA you should also install the backdoor for additional protection. However, you cannot leave the backdoor installed as it turns off sound. So having a little more protection just might save your root in case you take an OTA and forget to install the backdoor.

Well my friend, this worked to me... I hope this can help somebody else:
Original ROM: Acer A500 3.2.1 COM_GEN2 Rooted and with CWM using Timmy's method.
1) Go to play market and install Acer Recovery Installer.
2) Open Acer Recovery and verify with recovery do you have. In my case it was CWM recovery by thor2002ro 1.5
3) Install stock recovery. Make a backup of your old recovery when ask.
4) Factory reset: in my case, I made a backup of all my data and used Titanium to backup some apps. Then I harded reset my tab by turning it off and the combo pwd + vol(+) then lock-unlock switch 3 times until I saw "eraing user data" in the top-left corner.
5) turn on the tab and go to google play. Search for acer and install Update enhancement.
6) Go to settings-> about-> system update and aply the OTA update.
You will lost root, but everything should work fine.

Now I have rooted stock ICS and I'm so happy
Hey great write up, will try this as soon as I'm off work. Anyway to confirm stock recovery is installed? Because I have done what you said(just the flash stock recovery part) an when I boot into recovery I just get a triangle an exclamation point. Not sure if thats right or not. But I will definitely give this a go since you were running exactly what I'm running now.

yay for 3d0rr you finally took the plunge congrats!!!!!
@tu3218
That download link is no longer available
instead download blackthund3r's one-click-root,
google "ICS Root for Windows"
At step 3 - After you have backed up -
Copy the uid.txt file from the backup folder - this holds your cpu id -
you're probably gonna need it at sum stage
I followed your instructions and it went perfect!!! Rocking ics now. Thanks for the help. First thing I notice, soooo much faster an full of butter.

Unable to flash back to stock! Help please?

So, I'm trying to flash back to stock, (either GB or ICS, at this point it doesn't really matter), and PC Odin fails to flash every time it tries to write the factoryfs.img
The only way I can get myself back to a working device is if I do a battery pull, go back into download mode, re-flash CWM and do a recovery back into CM9.
I have tried mobile Odin as well, and again, the flash fails when it reaches factoryfs.img. Are my partitions all screwed up? If so, how can i fix that?
Thoughts? Help? Thanks!
What rom were you on?

Well there is your problem. Has nothing to do with lpy like the fear mongers blindly think. Toss another one due to CM9...
And like I mention above, it's really weird, I can CWM and still use my device just fine, but if I want to flash new firmware, it freaks out. All I can do is re-flash Chainfire's CWM recovery and restore back to where I was...

Yeah, I didn't think it had anything to do with LPY, because I still had the same issue when trying to go back to KKA.

See, that's what I was thinking too... Where can I get the correct .pit file though? I have stock KKA already downloaded; that's what I've been using for a while now for any time I have had to flash back to GB stock for whatever reason.
I have the pit file from the LP1 leak, but I don't want to use that, A) because it was from a leaked firmware, and B) because it looks like it was for the 32gb model, and mine is the 16gb.
This is the one I have: "Q1_20110919_32GB.pit"
Oh and apparently I have one called "u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit" but since i have NO idea what that was from or what it's for, I'm not likely going to try that either...

I was going to flash stock LC1 via pc odin cos I'm currently on LPY and I'd like to go back to GB. And I think I should ask before flashing that will it work and should I do something else than just hit lc1 in pda and flash?

Sadly, those files are packaged in .7zip format. I'm at work right now, and I don't have the admin rights to install 7 zip just to extract it. Can you re-pack and post here in a regular .zip file please?

Just flash it, if its a 3 file package put all the 3 files in their respective place, if its one file, put it in pda and flash and also make sure Kies is not running in the background
Well, at least this time the stock flash worked insofar as it completed. However, when the device reset, it went ahead saying "Installing packages" and such, and then it error'ed out saying something like there was invalid argument and it couldn't do something, then I was landed back at the stock recovery. I selected to reboot the system, and now I'm stuck at the Samsung boot animation; just keeps running indefinitely... What now?
