[Q] CM9 daily use - Atrix 4G General

Hi,
I just wanted to ask, which one of the cm9 builds is better for daily use, and why?
What are the major/minor bugs in both of them?
Thanks in advance

I'm using CM9 from Turl... it's very stable... Only issue I have is that some games FC.

thanks, what abaut the battery life? does hdmi-out work?

Fantastic battery life all things considered. Its my daily. Switched over from joker to turl, find it more stable

Current Turl1's v8 CM9 is OK for my day-to-day life.
Some features are not implemented (profiles), some are in process of fixings (camcorder) etc.
Some apps FC from time to time or even always.
But for my d2d it's OK.

In my opinion, Turl's v8 is a little bit more stable than Joker's. Both far from perfect tough. I went back to GB for now...i might just wait till the firsts official ICS leaks for our device.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App

same as DJLuis, Turl is the most stable but still some glitches, missing features and dodgy camera implementation.
Also back on GB Notachtrix now until official or leaked

i used joker's rom for a while!!
but some things are broken though !!
the fp scanner, laggy video playback on default player (3rd party video player does the job) !! camcorder, etc !!
some minor call bugs also !!
back to morrisoft cm7 rom !!

Thanks for all the answers.
I think i`ll first use a cm7 rom.
So if i want to unlock my bootloader, this also works for firmware 4.5.141 ,doesn´t it?

Give a read through this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501532
A lot of people are having problems unlocking and rooting with 4.5.141. That thread gives detailed step-by step instructions on what to do.
As for CM9, I have been using it since day 1 and have been nothing but pleased. It is true, a few things don't work. but it's only a matter of time, I believe, before we get a fully functional ROM. You may want to try it out just to satisfy your curiosity. Just as a forewarning, you do have to do a full system wipe when switching between CM7 and CM9. That being said, it may be easier to just try out CM9 and if you're not pleased revert to CM7. It'll be a lot more painful to get everything set up on CM7 only to have an updated CM9 appeal to you again in a few weeks and have to wipe everything.
And yes, I do believe CM9 has HDMI out.
Good luck unlocking! Btw, I have been using joker's builds from the very beginning. I have been more pleased with them than with Turl1s.

Thanks, I already read this thread, but it´s more about having problems, when updating from 4.5.91 to 4.5.141, if you´ve had an unlocked bootloader at 4.5.91
I can just find links to this thread
which i had mentionend before. so this should work.?

anyone?
sorry for my impatience, but i´m really afraid of hard-bricking my phone...

I used that script and I had stock gingerbread 4.5.91. I have no idea what version firmware you are talking about since I haven't been on official firmware since then
- make sure you are AT&T Atrix, that script is only for AT&T
- if this is some later AT&T update then I'm afraid you'll have to search yourself.

Wipe necessary even though they tell you it isn´t
On Joker´s website, it says that wipe is not necessary between versions of CM9. I tend to disagree, as I have had multiple issues with Gmaps, App management, etc... that just disappeared after a fastboot wipe.
I think a lot of problems discussed here are due to dirty flashes and I would advise strongly to wipe when installing a new rom.

ok.
Is there anyone, who unlocked his bootloader on firmware 4.9.141 ?
I couldn´t find concrete instructions or how to´s

Danger! If you start down the cm9 path forever will it dominate... etc.
In all seriousness its buttery smoothness and updated time and date entry systems, cut paste, etc. and general os features improve all your apps and make it impossible to ignore so avoid until ready or be prepared to be a beta tester for quite a while!

I'm using jokersax 0.3 beta. It works great the only bugs I have is no video recorder and switching from portrait to landscape in browser causes a force close

mine works like a charm, as for roms...., if u r going for CM7, u got a a lotta choices and idk what to recommend u.
but... if u r looking for CM9, turl's v8 is a good place to start.....
but if ur gonna use CM9, as new n improved rom come out almost every week, get comfortable to wiping data, flashing new rom and restoring backups very often....
for backups, use titanium backup for ur apps...and MyBackup from rerware for your sms, call logs and contact or let google restores your contact if u enable the backup and restore in the setting...

So did you unlock your bootloader on firmware 4.9.141 and it worked fine ?

Widgets
Feeling pretty noobish right now...flashed from CM7 to Jokersax CM9 .31 today and I love the look and feel of it. How do you load widgets in CM9? I use the phone for business and Touchdown for Exchange for my email. I use one of the Touchdown widgets to be able to instantly view new email without opening the full blown app. But with CM9 I can't figure out how to load the widget.
Like I said, feeling pretty noobish right now. Help please.

The Battle of the ROMs

With the surge of some ROMs for our devices, and though they're related between each other to a certain degree (save for CM7), the inevitable question surges: which one has the upper hand? The stock ROM is vastly improved since 1.06 and Ganjaman's add-ons make it more mature, the MoDaCo ROM has the advantage of having been the first modded ROM, CyanogenMod7, thanks to Apache14's work, has made a stellar appearance and we actually get the official updates (such as the ones that mad-murdock presented us yesterday), Corvus has been updating his new ROM quite rapidly and it works nicely, like Fuji-Vega does... We're lucky that we're not in want of possible choices! But which is yours?
Thread moved to General.
For me corvus. It's so quick and stable, and is the only one, where's my usb 3g huawei running. Did I told you, that it's really fast?
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
I agree totally, corvus is so quick. I can't wait until it can be combined with mad murdoch's HC tweaks, the vega will be Ninja then!

@logseman
great idea for a thread. I'm considering starting a thread on a similar line, thought id check in and avoid toe treading and see if there is a need for it.
As a newb to vega android modding, its great that there is such a wealth of info and advice, but sometimes its not clear or comprehensive (at least in one place! )
I'd like to run a "what vega setup is best for me" thread. The aim being to allow users to show exactly what setup they are running, how it performs, pro's and cons, bugs etc.
By using a standard template, we can see what works and why. We can make direct comparisons between setups without searching through threads for hours.
Users can then copy setups and try if they think they like it. Might also provide devs useful concise feedback to help them progress roms / kernels etc.
If it already exists, feel free to point me in the right direction whilst mocking my newbe stupidity, but ive read and re read the main threads and can't see it.
If you're reading this and think it would be useful, let me know, with suggestions and i'll get the ball rolling.
I.A.O.
Edit: if you want to help or collaborate, pm me.
I'm not sure how setting up a "standard configuration" would be of benefit. Primarily because of two issues: first, the same custom ROM can have dramatic performance differences between one device and the other (I am a ROM tester for Galaxy S, people claim battery lives of 4 days which I've never heard about); and second, the point of Android is that it actually doesn't force any standardisation as of now: I don't see why users would tend to a certain set up which has been done by another person instead of experimenting themselves.
Don't take me wrong, I appreciate that you take interest in this thread, but I fail to see the point of your suggestion. Android has no predefined "set-ups" as far as I know.
Yeah, i get your point. For me too its all about modding and tweaking. But i also got the impression that some people just want to get there device configured in a way that works for them quickly.
Im certainly Not saying lets all set up the same, if we wanted that we'd just bite the apple right!
I just think it would be useful to see at a glance what is working for people. I.e - "i need a rom with no lag on my vega - ah looks like cm7 ttrc2 has lag issues", without having to read 178 pages to find out.
I guess it would be more like an "at a glance" guide to roms for each device.
I used Modaco since i got my Mobii/Vega, but yesterday i flashed clockwork recovery and started using Titanium backup for real, so now i am testing some ROMs and sofar i like fuji-vega the most, fast and smooth, only some lag in appmenu when i have the device rooted.
I spent a long time using mcr8 eventually with buzz kernel but I then got bored and tried cm7 which I loved but just could not stand all the lag when scrolling etc.
I am now using corvus which seems to work well for me. I hope to switch back to cm7 when it improves a bit.
I love CM7 on my phone and would love it on the Vega, but the wifi troubles it has at this moment on the Vega made me switch to first Modaco and than Corvus. The only bad thing I can say about Corvus is that I personally would prefer Gingerbread green icons aboive the blue ones in Corvus

I am in a similar position to you. I have only installed Modaco R8 and not really used Titanium Backup nor Clockwork Recovery. I find R8 lags after extended use (requiring a reboot) so I am interesting in changing to Corvus. I have a few questions.
What is the best way to move from Modaco to Corvus?
Can I use Clockwork Recovery/Titanium to ease the pain of transition?
How do I install CWR?
Is it best to go back to stock and then install Corvus? If so, will I lose all of my customisations?
Thanks in anticipation of a response.

I would do a Ti Backup of everything, then a nandroid backup before flashing.

You would want to wipe when doing an install of a different rom anyway, so you will lose settings, most will be restored by Ti Backup though.
> I would do a Ti Backup of everything, then a nandroid backup before flashing.
Sorry, how do I do that? I have Modaco R8 with Titanium Backup installed. How do I use Ti to "backup everything", what is a "nandroid backup", and how do I restore stuff after installing a new ROM?
Cheers.
you can find this information quite easily by searching
ti backup press menu>batch>backup all user apps and system data
Then after installing cwm (download zip open
cd /path/to/folder
./install.sh for mac and linux (make sure to downlod my fixed scripts second post)
or
click install.bat for windows
then click recovery app use volume buttons and power to select backup and restore)
wipe data instal rom
ti backup from market
menu>batch>restore all user apps and system data (modaco is similar to corvus so should be safe to restore everything if things start crashing repeat install and untick all apps that are already installed in ti backup)
there you go you have transitioned
sorry if this sounds patronising it sounded like you were a noob so i included great detail
p.s. this will all become second nature after a while
hmmm atm i'm using CM7, and after switching to launcher pro it's so fast !!
adw launcher is such a crappy launcher (sry, my opinion)
anyways, my flash is pretty laggy due to the unstable nightly builds, I mean they're not in the fully power.. but I will wait, <3 cyanogem
I wish we had the HC update soon, rly =(
Ive been using Fuji-Vega since april and applying updates when they become available.
Really happy with it and cant complain. Does what i need it to do.
Very quick to use.
Corvus5 for me right now. it's stable and fast as, with oc I have been using cm7 until a few days ago and will no doubt give the latest a shot before the weekends gone, it now has oc kernel
I can't use custom ROMs because nor CM neither Corvus doesn't let my Huawei e150 connect to internet. When I'll solve this problem CM'll my choice.
CM7 for me. I've tried a few but CM7 just feels/looks slicker.
Will there ever be a fully working honeycomb rom?

Best Rom for EPIC 4G is RandomRom 2.3.4 | Alpha "Hawk" w/EG22 compiled by RamdomKing
UPDATE*********9/11/2011
Sad to say but do too issues with FC'S, ramdon rom hawk 2.3.4 can't no longer hold this title for me. I have tried different fixes none have worked. So for over 2 weeks now I've been testing [ERA][ROM][EH06] Copy & Paste ROM Stock Cyan v1.1 (Updated 9/2) and have not had any FC'S, overall it has been very stable. Occasional reboots do occur but that's a common thing with all gb releases. I hope random can find a way to stabilize the rom. I tried removing gtalk as mentioned but had no success, FC'S were still occurring. O well only 5 days left and the galaxy s2 will be out can't wait. The only down is the fact that it has no keyboard.
Newbie in the posting forum+++
I would like to say that after careful testing Ive come to the conclusion that RandomRom 2.3.4 combined with EG22, is by far the best gingerbread rom for my Epic 4G. I was really excited to see gingerbread roms for the epic 4G, so I tried scrambled eggs but unfortunately it was way to buggy ( Constant Freezes, Hangs etc) and battery life was not up to part. I then cleared the phone and gave RamdomRom a shot and it has proven to be a solid rom. Battery life has been amazing and radios too. GPS is also working really good and quite reliable. I have installed all gmail applications, other stock applications and a few others like the weather toggle, amazon, ebay, plume, pulse, shazam, Facebook and a few games all running great. One of my major concerns was the fact that Im a heavy phone user and allot of other roms would freeze while calls where coming in or at the time of placing a call ( Very frustrating) and that issue so far is non existent.
I must say to anyone interested in this rom to follow the instructions to the T. Watch out from installing unnecessary programs that might take away resources from the system to work at optimum level.
I would like to thank Ramdomking for compiling the best ideas from other great developers into this wonderfull rom. I'm leaving a link to the rom below. Please make sure to follow all instructions carefully and it should all work very smooth, if it doesn't then you may have done it incorrectly or installed a conflicting app. Cheers!

before you make that statement check out [ERA] eh06 unnamed v1.1 (updated 8/17). and make sure ur running the eh06 modem, not eg22. it's better and u can run it on either rom
besides acs syndicate i cant think of one that is actually stable... seems like everything else has bugs in a bunch or more

You beat me to it. ERA is the best GB rom to date.. for me at least. Maybe if random switched to EH06 I would try it out again No other gb rom worked properly.on my phone.. I would get random reboots and random fcs. All of the eh06 roms worked well for me and eras works excellent

The app is just the client. It certainly does still support exchange. most people prefer other mail apps, such as touchdown, k9, or enhanced email. Just push the email.apk file back in if you want the stock email app back.
can you post link to the stock/default email APK? its not in the provided APK folder, and the 3rd party solutions (e.g. K9) are not passing my companies authentication

running really smooth. i highly suggest you run v6 supercharger 8, 11 after you set it up. but yeah I think they are using the eh06 ext4 kernel.. check out bonsai discussion under general.
OK, i got a head ache of trying to figure this out.....
I put hawk verson 2 on my phone following the instructions that randomking put on his blog here.
This step takes me back to 2.2.1..... is this correct. Is Hawk a froyo or a gb rom?
Pre-Steps:
Option A: Odin the .tar for EC05 deodexed EXT4.
Option B: Use one-click to root nearly any current setup with EXT4.
Option C: Already on an EXT4 setup? You’re good to go, proceed.
Steps:
A clean install is recommended (Wipe 3X).
Ensure that your phone is on CWM 3.1.0.1 (Purple).
Odin a Gingerbread modem such as EE03, EF02, EG22, or EH06.
Flash RandomROM Alpha “Hawk” v.2.
Enjoy
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I followed the steps accordingly and I kept getting forced closed messsages and it wouldnt run the email app without closing it as well. Therefore, I feel like this should be running on gingerbread even though the step told me to put eco5 deodexed ext4 on it and that is where my problem was.
So is Hawk a gingerbread rom. I got a head ache and I apparently need some guidance.
If I did indeed do it right, and I am just suffering problems, can someone please recommend a problem free rom and tell me if it runs on froyo or gingerbread?
Well if the rom installed and is running, you did it right. If you're getting fc's in email, you can try clearing the cache/data.
If you want something totally stable, radomking just updated his ec05 rom (phoenix). Flash that and it should be rock solid and still have all his battery-saving tweaks.

As mentioned, it sounds like your install just suffered some issues. Try clearing data and cache and installing again. If problems persist, try redownloading.
Also, try 2.2.1 Phoenix EC05 for a solid experience.
But to answer your question:
Yes Hawk is a Gingerbread rom. Yes the directions recommend flashing a Froyo rom. No it doesn't matter. I've selected that particular .tar due to its repeated clean success with all of my rom testing of froyo or gingerbread. Flashing a rom through cwm will replace everything but the file system and modem. In essence, that pre-step is only to ensure you're on deodexed EXT4.
-Sent from my Random Epic.
When I get FC's after an install its usually because of random crap left over from previous ROM. I notice you're new to XDA. Perhaps you don't know what RandomKing meant by wipe 3x.
While in clockworkmod notice that there is an option labeled "wipe data/factory reset" and under that "clear cache partition". Those should be done 3 times each. I usually alternate between them. I don't believe there's anything magical about 3 times. Just want to make sure they're wiped clean so don't be afraid to do it 4 times if you lose count.
I also go to "advanced" and then choose "Wipe Dalvik Cache". May not be necessary but it doesn't hurt.
If you get FC's, go back and wipe 3x again and flash the ROM again. Don't do any of the options A - C if you reflash.
Good Luck!
Yeah i wiped 3x3, so idk. I mean it worked fine for a day or 2. And then i started gettiing fcs. This happened once where it was going beyond email. I was getting fcs to google framework and phone fcs.
Then I wiped it all and tried to start off fresh while being extra careful as to following the steps because I had a better idea what i was doing. Thank you all for the input and an extra thanks to randomking. I think at this point i am going to put phoenix on there and keep my eyes open for more randomroms to get updated/released.
I've been running Hawk v2 since it came out; I have a great experience running this rom. no force closes (usually those come from restoring data, bad idea) I have had a random reboot here or there, but that is on pretty much any leak. I just reboot my phone in once a day and haven't had a reboot since doing that.
I had a similar experiance. I ran it for 2 days and loved it! The Google frameworks issues. Cleared and reflased again had Google frameworks issues. I really wish someone explained what causes that because I loved the way my phone responded with that rom. I would give it another shot if someone suggested a fix.

It supports it, but I tried everything and still couldn't stop the email from "FC"s. Reflashed, uninstalled the apk, reinstalled, etc, etc... The email would FC every time I checked a new message.
Went back to "HAWK" after 2 days of frustration trying to figure it out...
Well I must say that I have also experienced FC issues with google framework. I experienced those issues when replacing batteries and taking the battery out before the phone was completely off. I'm now testing other rooms since a few people said I should of tried a few more rooms before calling hawk the best. So far from all the other roms, The only one I had great success with has been [ERA][ROM][EH06] Copy & Paste ROM Stock Cyan v1.1 (Updated 9/2).
You can find this rom below. What I can say about this one so far no FC's, this rom is also solid with battery, overall it has been fairly good.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1246347
One thing I have noticed is the fact that I can't receive mms, I only get a link to view on sprint website, anyone has any Idea how to get this to work?
Ok I gave Random Rom Hawk a second try. My first attempt worked great for a day and a half then it was Google frameworks error after error...I flashed the rom again and same thing in a day. Went back to a previous rom just depressed because Hawk while it worked was awesome. So I read and read the development strand and decided to give it another shot. This time I flashed the rom also ran the Ram control thread, then flashed the journaling zip, and uninstalled the gtalk/video app that came with the rom. 4 days everything sweet smooth and great! I am using eh06 modem and great signal and GPS locks instantly. No fc at all!!! Great job!

New to root and overwhelmed with choices-please help

I finally decided to root my g2 but I'm quickly becoming overwhelmed with all the possible choices and information. This is what I'm looking for and hopefully somebody can tell me the simplest way to achieve it.
I want good gps and working Google talking navigation.
I need working wifi calling.
I want to safely over clock.
I am not overly concerned with appearance, i just want something that works well with no bugs. I've been using cm7 nightly on my nook color and I'm happy with it, but does cm play nice with gps now? I've read several threads about other roms and that's why I'm stuck. I really don't want to have to experiment with a dozen different setups. Thank you ahead of time!
Most ROMs in the dev section provide all 3 of those. Any custom ROM allows overclocking, nearly all provide WiFi calling (or you can add it later), and gapps provides your navigation/gps functionality.
You can read before installing whether or not there are known bugs (some AOSP ROMs have GPS issues), and then troubleshoot afterwards if you have issues.
Just be sure to back up with ROM manager before you flash, and you can always go back to the previous setup if you're unhappy with the way your chosen ROM performs for you.
I'd recommend the ROM in my signature to meet all of the needs you mentioned. It's fast, reliable, and has incredible support... essentially it's a moderately modded version of CM7.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Be sure to follow the wiki for rooting its flawless.
As for rom choice I always, always end up back on CM7. Nothing beats its out of the box functionality and stability.
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
I've used Virtuos Sense 2.0.0 and now I'm on InsertCoin Sense 2.1+3.0. Both are great and should fit your needs.
Basically, once you root your phone changing ROMs is easy so you can try different ones and see which you like best.
Thanks for the replies so far. If I get anything wrong or mistaken, please jump in and correct me:
From what I've read, I don't think I'd like any of the Miui-types, they seem more iPhone like than android and I really don't like the iphone.
CM7 is cm7, so it'd be the same on my G2 as my nook color, right? My NC has a built in overclock, I didn't have to add anything extra, is CM7 for the G2 the same?
I've read many threads about how good Virtuous is, but seems like just as many people say it's too resource intensive and slow. Comparing it to the stock Tmo 2.2 or 2.3, is it at least as good? Seems pointless to develop something if it's slower than stock. Is the Insertcoin just a variation of virtuous?
I'm intrigued by Dit's recommended rom, that may be my first choice to try.
I guess I'm really looking for a 1 stop shop, it took me a little while to get the market working on my NC. Do any of the mentioned rom's have everything from the start, or do I still need to add pieces (like gapps, or wifi calling) after installing the rom?
The other rom that has my interest is meXdroidMod, any opinions on it?

Virtuos Sense 2.0.0 is Sense 2.1, so it's not slower than stock (in fact it's faster, thanks to optimizations and Virtuos OC Daemon) and doesn't have any weird issues.
InsertCoin is developed by a different team and uses a different kernel (rmk), so I wouldn't call it a variation. It's also different in that it combines elements from Sense 2.1 and 3.0, while Virtuos ROMs are either full 2.1 or full 3.0.
i guess we all missed the main point here and is how to root lol heres the best guide for rooting your G2/Desire Z:

about the ROMs if you like CM7 go ahead and try it for, its the same as the one you have on your nook, and yes you can overclock without adding anything
about gps on cm7 most people have had trouble with it, but you just need to try cause i really never had any problems
Yea wipe efs before flashing, it will eliminate a lot of common issues with gps and such. Superwipe + will wipe everything well. Don't forget to flash recovery and do a nandroid backup! Also to make the transition easier backup with titanium backup pro. I use virtuous glite btw it looks stock except with light overclock and it is solid. Virtouos basically took the stock rom removed a lot of the bloat and overclocked and pre-rooted it. Works great my only hiccup was I had to grab the swpye beta apk. Aside from that I just restored my apps and I was away.

Gapps is embedded in the ILWT ROM, as is the EFS wipe tool, to help eliminate GPS issues (plus radio suggestions/info in the OP). Wifi Calling can also be added during ROM install. The OP gives all the info you could possibly need in his thread. Give it a thorough read... seems to cover all the things you've mentioned. And I've had nothing but best experience with it... been running it since nightly 186.
I've successfully rooted following the wiki, I was pretty nervous about screwing it up but everything went smoothly and exactly how it was written. I installed RomManager and flashed "clockworkmod recovery" and then clicked on "backup current rom" and it rebooted the phone and gave me several choices. I used the volume button to select "backup and restore" and selected that, and now it is showing me a screen with a top hat over an orange ring, it's just sitting there with no progress bars and no words. I was following the directions from this site:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/0...nandroid-backup-and-clockworkmod-rom-manager/
but it doesn't look like the screens on that site right now.
Is this supposed to happen, or did I somehow screw something up when I've barely gotten started?
You still need to flash a Recovery... you can do this through Rom Manager... but use version 3.0.2.4. Or, you could check out the Recovery in my signature. 4EXT Recovery... it's pretty wonderful. After you flash your chosen Recovery you will be able to make a NANDroid backup.
Misread your post. Yeah, you probably used the trackpad... sorry.

Did you use the power button to select?Don't, use the trackpad
I thought clicking "flash clockworkmod recovery" was flashing a recovery? My big question is what do I do right now, as things seem locked up with just the hat/orange ring on the screen. It's been that way for about 5 minutes at least. Can I power off without hurting anything? And yes, I used power to select "backup/recover".
Press it again and then use the trackpad to scroll and select, that screen is like a screensaver so to speak.
Bombadier,
Many, many thanks to you, I was afraid I'd royally screwed up. If it wasn't for your help in my ADB thread I wouldn't have made it this far, many and much thanks!
No problems happy to of helped
Last question for the night, and sorry if this is a dumb newb question. Once a rom is flashed, what is the easiest, quickest way to reinstall all my old apps?
When you log into google your apps are synced, would recommend getting titanium backup though,a good app which can backup, restore apps, upload to dropbox, uninstall system apps very useful indeed

Before you flash a new ROM, download "Titanium Backup" off the market and use the Menu button to select Batch. Do a backup of all your apps and data (not system data), and when you flash a new ROM, reinstall Titanium, select Batch mode again, and restore all missing apps and data.

[Q]Phiremod MIUI?

ok so i flashed over the Phiremod Miui and got constant process.android.acore force closes..like every 10 seconds...i turned off my sync, but left background on and that slowed down the force closes...and of course there is the market issue as well...
it kinda bums me out because i like the MIUI rom...but yeah....anyone out there know of a fix for it?....i dug around in quite a few forums looking and couldn't find anything
i'm bumping this because i am still wondering if anyone has any input whatsoever...
I will reply. I put off responding because for the most part, people don't swear in their posts on this forum. Clean up your act.
2nd, there are threads in the development section for each rom which would address your problem if you would read them.
Nevertheless, when I flash a new rom I always format data, system and cache in clockwork mod recovery. Even tho some say you don't have to, I have found that it leads to a much better install.
I would not install any MIUI rom right now as there are problems with the market. I have not found a decent fix.
Standard cm7 or the MiRage roms are probably best for you.
Cm9 still has glitches that I don't think you are ready to handle (based on your experience with phiremods Miui).

Well i censored myself but that was mainly out of frustration, I usually have been able to fix most of my problems with any of my android devices...and this one was stumping me. I know there are separate threads in the dev section...but i did not have the allotted post count to post in those threads and did not want to spam a bunch of threads.
So, yeah i'm waiting on CM9 to get less buggy, simply because i want to use my NC as well as modify it, I prefer stable builds to testing or nightlies...I've been through that experience with a couple phones and it did not turn out well.
One of these days i'm going to jump in the deep end and try developing...but, as the rest of you. i'm quite busy when offline..
anyway, thank you for your input...
Apology accepted. Sounds like you know your way around android. But here are some suggestions if you are set on using Phiremods rom.
Again, in the mounts and storage section of recovery, format data, system and cache. Back out and do factory reset/wipe. I know people have said this is not necessary, but I have had problems when I have not done this.
Make sure you are using phiremods gapps. Standard cm7 ones won't work.
The market will fc. That is a given. You can uninstall updates to a certain point, then it will fc anyway.
I love the miui roms myself and am so sad that there is no new development on them for the nook.
I am using MiRage rom currently and am happy with it. I have also flashed samiams's cm9 and loved it but until they find a way to up the resolution and get video going, its not a daily driver for me.
If you are still having problems, post your install precedure and I'll see if I can help

I'll try that out, Also I read from someone that the Dark Market/Black Themed Market will stop the fc's on regular MIUI, So I will try that out as well and let you know...
When I have the time to backup and possibly restore at least

[q] What FAST rom you recommend for Defy?

Hi,
Recently I got to conclusion it is time to change my defy to smth. faster. I thought to myself though that I will give it one last try by playing around with rom and settings. For a very long time I had stock froyo rom.
Last week I tried Cyanogen which constantly produced errors on my device so I ditched it not wanting to waste any more time (these were both Gingerbread and ICS versions). Then I tried newest MIUI. At first it looked OK, but when I installed a little bit of gear on it started to act a little bit sluggish. I see close to no difference in overall phone performance from my old Froyo.
So this is basically my last attempt to "save defy". I am looking for a FAST AND CLEAN rom. What I care about is performance. I really do not care about fancy switches, beatiful tollbars, tons of extra stuff that is built into the rom.
Any suggestions?
Best regards,
Kordi

Are you sure? From what I see it isn't very "clean" rom. I don't say it is a bad thing, just that I look for something more... "spartan"...

what do u mean by clean rom?
The less embedded apps the better... i.e.: I really don't need MotoPhonePortal embeded in the ROM. Ideally it would have everything that is not essential removed.
I have installed CM7.2 or WhiteRabbit and I'm very happy with this rom. The only problem I find is some flash content. Pikachu 2.4.20 is another alternative. I like less, but this is personal.
Hi, I wrote above that I tried some instances of Cyanogen and it does not work on my device. Besides Cyanogen is not a "clean"rom.
white rabbit is perfect! give it a try to "save your defy"!

Any details why? I don't find pleasure in trying numerous ROMs and reinstalling everything in my phone 3 times during the week. I would like to know what to expect... especially that all Cyanogen ROMs I tried didn't work properly on my phone.
Hello Kordi666,
Maybe wanna try MS2Ginger from walter79.
It is Gingerbread Android Version with Moto Blur. I use it because I bought my phone because of MotoBLur and this Rom is very fast with this but I recommend to overlock to 1Ghz.
This is the most useful thing to get your Defy fast.
Best regards,
mpeg
The ROM I would recommend
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033654
Its Android version 2.3.7
Its from Quarx and its fast, stable and give long battery up time. You can trust it 100%.
Please hit the Thanks button if this was useful.
Another option to consider would be the the deblurred GGL ROM, which seems fairly responsive and uncluttered and has good battery life and can be simplified further by freezing apps with TB:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500286
I installed the Rom by aneeshcphilip - WIUI. The first one that was mentioned in the thread and so far I am very pleased. I did not have the opportunity to test the battery properly but so far it seems to work very well.
This time I revised all the software that I was used to installing and I resigned from many apps that I was used to coming to conclusion that I do not need them and I install them only due to my habits i.e. set vsel.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1397059
All default waste apps and bloats removed. Must try.

sorry if i answear you only now
i think it's perfect because it's really smooth, great performance, long battery life, nice ui and it has only really usefull apps.. till now it's the best rom i've tried!
maybe use also droidx to change your governor and you'll have a super defy!
EDIT:
i'm speaking about white rabbit!
Sh....t So I bricked my phone. Everything was fine after I installed WIUI until smth happened with one of my apps that I couldn't uninstall it even with Titanium Backup. So I wanted to do factory reset. After reset, the rom stopped seeing my SD card and I got constant error massage about faulty messaging process. I tried caouple of other roms and all the time the same error. One more factory reset under normal recovery and now my phone stops at Motorla sign.
Any help guys? This would be much appriciated.
Flash this Full SBF using RSD Lite and u will be back to Stock Froyo.
U can then again flash ur Fav ROM.
