Any one try this with an Epic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22455870#post22455870
Interesting. I just looked at our phones gps.conf and there is like 3 servers.
---------- Post added at 07:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:59 PM ----------
At closer examination and comparison it has the same 3 servers we have, some extrra command codes and it looks like a supplemental server at the end of the script. But I already get 9 out of 11 locks so may not have a stock gps.conf on CM9.

That is something I would like a fix for..I want consistant GPS. It can work great for 2 days but then one day...nothing. Even after a recent boot...you have to reboot again to get it working.

We would have to get in line behind Apple...LOL.
Also I wonder if stock glitches like that. I know the locks are less but does it connect all the time? I have some friends with Epics non-rooted and never hear them complaining about the gps.
Ei22 would get 4 locks max and would lose signal if traveling for a length of time.
El30 for me was very glitchy. My locks would blink on and off like the chip was having a seizure. Maps would constantly "re-route"
Fb15 is back to being just like ei22. Was just outside on a clear night. Had 12 sats in view and would never go above 4 locks max. I assume its the same as ei22 with it losing lock after a period of driving.
With the "gps fix" I get lots of locks and they hold on, however like a part above, some days it just won't work without a reboot which is super annoying when your trying to drive.

Just tried this gps.conf update - still maxed out at 4 locks...gonna have to flash the fascinate file (ei22 gps fix) to fix mine.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Lastly, I can confirm the ei22 fix still works in fb15. After I flashed that I got 8 out of 9 locks immediately.
Edit: attached the GPS fix that works for me. It replaces the epic gpsd file with the one from the fascinate which is more aggressive and locks as many sats as possible. I believe CM7/9 is using this same file so you only need this on TW roms.

I think people on stock who don't root and etc don't complain, because they don't know the full gps potential and they got use to their half-assed locks. Lol

Hey guys and gals. I have gotten a lot of positive reports on the GPS functioning on Supernova and Phoenix so I took the files and created a flashable zip for your pleasure. I know there have been numerous supposed fixes in the past and I am not claiming this is it, but it does work on 2 of my ROMS so why not yours. Please keep this thread clean as I know you all love to trash supposed GPS fix threads. Everyone knows I am just here to help.
Pair this fix with one of these modems depending on your geographical location for best results. Mine is JK4, North Eastern US.
This is just a combination of extensive trial and error testing which has proven to work.
-Adam
You are a good sport mate to share this.
I tried it with Paragon and it seems to be working...not sure if it is as good as with Supernova itself but I will test a bit more.
Regards!
I was wondering if you would ever going to release this, haha. I'm trying a few ROMs this weekend before I flash Supernova (or Firefly). I'll post results later on if i can get it to work
Trying on FireFly now.
Do i need to clear GPS data after installing this?
used supernova and phoenix. all I can say adam may have the best fix for the gps. I always get 20m lock in 5-7 seconds. and the 10 meter lock. it never jumps around. everybody should try this
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
I have to say that Adam's GPS fix is no joke. I have been using his roms exclusively since is initial release of Phoenix, and now on Supernova 2.1 the GPS is phenomenal!!
On testing through sgs I received an average lock time of 3-8 seconds, 9 sats, range from 5 to 15 meters.
This is testing inside my house where previously it would take up to 10 min to lock, averaging 2-3 sats at best, and ranges from 15 to 100 meters!!
On google maps I receive an average position lock time of 8 seconds, within 30 meters of my position with direction being dead on.
On navigation, on a 12 mile trip, I did not loop or get thrown off track at all. Street names on the map showed up just before they came into viewing distance.
I may not have gotten quite as technical as some of you would like, but for all around functionality, it can't be beat. A HUGE thanks to Adam and his team for all of their hard work fixing what the manufacturers and service providers wouldn't take the time to.
I've had really good results using the GPS on Phoenix and Supernova. Quick locks, good accuracy and decent tracking.
I've been using phoenix 4.5, Adam's ROM w/ his GPS files/tuning, to track my running via Cardiotrainer and I've never had results so accurate.
For Comparison's sake, prior I used cognition 2.3 b6 and 2.3 b8 and the GPS was not as accurate.
Thanks a lot. The only time my GPS works is when I'm on Supernova or Phoenix.
I've flashed every rom available and Adams fix is by far, the best one available.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
I was on Phoenix and now I am on supernova. All I can say is I would have never consider using my cappy as my primary gps until I got adam's roms.
The gps performance is pretty amazing if you ask me.
Play with different modems to get best results.
Works excellent!
I'm a FireFly user. Just installed this fix and I'm impressed! Significantly improvement with GPS inside. Have to try it with the real driving.

Adam - u have done an amazing job with gps fixes in the past.. I don't doubt this will work on other roms as well
My gripe is that my phone is just one of those flawed phones that no matter what gps cocktail I throw at it, I am still shown driving through cow fields and getting re-routed

I downloaded this app this morning, but after some testing I can't seem to capture anything. Not sure if it's the device or ROM (MIUI) . Can someone out there on MIUI test this as well and provide me some feedback?
I got it to work a couple times but it seems to be touchy. A coworker and I devised a plan to use it on another coworker while sitting right next to her muuhahahahaha!

DroidSheep Works on Android 2.3.4 Galaxy S
I have tested it on Galaxy S 2.3.4 and it worked fine.
Droidsheep is removed from the andriod market now according to a tweet at @DroidSheep.
Although it is still possible to use by downloading it directly from the website and install it.
Just make sure you have installed required dependencies e.g arpspoof, licpcap, droidsheep and Root Privileges on android phone.
I wrote one Howto, but due to insufficient privileges i can't post URL. try search on google How to install DroidSheep
Ive tested it on MIUI and Stock. works fine but the Network slows down extremely!
It's scary how simple this app works!
Will droidsheep mess up the modem?
becuz i have played around with wifikill, droidsheep and faceniff today.
then a few hours later, my modem stopped working.
could any of the 3 apps be the cause? or my modem just got fried? lol

As I'm reading through the forum I saw someone ask, if we would be able to use the A500 as a phone with the upgrade to ICS. That made me think to whene I first got this tablet and it was consistently checking for cell signal and killing the battery at the same time. I hope ACER doesn't forget to remove them files.

You can probably just remove it and see what happens.
Seriously tho, just because it's named phone.apk, doesn't mean it's the same as in a mobile device.

No. The 500 and 501 do not contain a "true" radio like a mobile. True, the 501 uses a neutered version due to internal 3g data, but that's all. Unfortunately they both are almost identical in hardware, albeit a working sim slot.
It was called "cell standby", and the issue was fixed some time ago by adding the line ro.carrier=wifi-only (or similar) to the build.prop file. This informs the OS that it's not an a501 with internal 3g. Sometimes, the rom was installed on a 500 with a "#" in front of that line signifying an a501, resulting in looking for a signal.
In laymans terms.

But seriously, with the ICS ports, things look different. Will probably have to wait for the official a501 ports and roms, to see the differences. Right now, the ports are only for the 500.

Operative words being "when I got this tab".
It's been so long since I've seen "cell standby", that I've forgotten which update fixed it.
Point being, if it's fixed now, what makes you think Acer will go in reverse when they finally release ICS (God only knows when) for our tabs?!?

So true. The Motorola Droid X was severely broken by updating to Gingerbread so there's no guarantee ICS will be a good thing for any tablet. We'll just have to wait and see.

Who this is for - anyone whose GPS has long lock times, and is inaccurate in navigation.
This SHOULD work with all 2.3+ roms (that includes ICS). If it doesn't work for you or provides consistently poor results, please post and let's see if we can figure out why
What it does - replaces /system/etc/gps.conf with the modified version that has much more servers and various tweaks. Please note some tweaks made sacrifice accuracy for speed.
Results - I'm able to consistently get locks within 5 sec and ~10m with multiple sats. Even indoors, results are similar.
Many (including non captivate users) have reported much improved results as well.
How to use it:
Backup your old gps.conf (located in /system/etc) in case you prefer your old configuration. But you can always flash your rom again to get it back as well
Download the gps fix (Updated with 8 NTP servers) -- http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17383148/GPS_mod(8NTP).zip to SD Card
Reboot into CWM and flash
Reboot and enjoy a fast, awesome GPS
NOTE - first lock can take much longer that normal. Don't be surprised if it takes over 1 min. Results should improve from there. Should get ~ 10 sec locks, with multiple satellites.
Still not getting the results you want? Try another modem. KG3 is working great for me. This is a great site that has plenty more CM modems you can try out
UPDATE 4/18 : The GPS mod has been edited so that it now has 8 NTP servers. If you feel the old (classic?) configuration was working great for you, it's still up here
Commentary on screenshots: 1 -- Indoors w/ fix and about ~25 sec (cold start). 2 -- outdoors w/ fix and about ~10 sec (cold start). 3 -- outdoors NO fix and about ~15 seconds (cold start). Indoors with no fix could not be completed as I was not able to get a consistent lock with a cold start.
Credits:
H3llstorm
Xenova
Non-captivate users -- You will have to edit the gps.conf file yourself in order to provide the most accurate results (since I do not know where you live). Xenova's post has some good instructions you can follow.
also read this post.
Finally! I spent all day yesterday looking for solutions to gps issues, will try this immediately and post feedback.
Update:
Gps test:6 sats in view,5 in use,accuracy 40ft
Before:1 sat,1 in use,accuracy 200ft
Rom:Team ICSSGS RC4.2
Modem:UGJL2
my GPS fix is highly recommended too.
REMOVED- didnt work for cm9
it also replaces files in "vendor/etc/" and files in "vendor/bin" file as well.
Any files in the Vendor folder (in stock roms) are carrier tweaks. AKA Vendor tweaks. and will supercede any files in the system/etc or system/bin folders.

ROM: Teamhacksung CM9 build16
I have a captivate running CM9 (build 16), and decided to give it a try. It has historically been a "fair" GPS captivate, mostly working, never well. CM9 it would not work at all. I walked out of our building with it as flashed from CM9, waited 5 minutes, nothing.
Flashed the one in the OP, walked back outside (about 5 minutes elapsed so not a lot of change in constellation), and did not even get to where I had stood before and it was locked.
One data point does not a trend make, but it was a pleasant surprise.
TRusselo: Had seen yours, but it was much more intrusive in terms of files changed and I had less faith that it was compatible with CM9. Is it?

You can dowload the COD modem
On Mocsab’s thread found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...10tuvu1cod6-modem-stock-kernel-stock-t3094994
and flash it through odin
Here are some instructions:
Preface:
For what we are doing here you just want the modem.bin file.
1. Download the COD modem.bin file.
2. Open up odin and uncheck auto reboot.
3. Click on phone, select the modem.bin file, and press start.
4. When you finish the flash. Pull the battery and put it back in and power up.
PS.
I used odin 3.0.4, but this probably works with all versions of odin.
Might not be as important as before, but it was for my current setup.
I'm on Infamous BOC rom and 3.6 Bioshock kernel, but was still running ank modem.

Hehehehe! I know... Just a little joke Using it myself(new baseband). So far nothing different but as I mentioned in the other modem thread it might be better, worse, or not even noticeable. We shall see if there are any improvements or disadvantages over time. Just a little too soon to tell especially after just one phone call. I did a few tests myself with all radio related usages and everything works well like on MK7. I live and work near cell towers so I haven't seen anything noticeable yet. One thing good I can say for sure(past experiences since Windows Mobile 5) is sometimes call handoffs are improved with newer versions and sometimes the signal is faster to relay on the handset ui giving a more accurate signal display. Those are all things to look for. Now all we need is xposed running

Ummm yes.... Yes they do lol
I seem to be getting better signal and faster Lte. At work I used to get anywhere from 6-10mbps up/down, now am getting close to 20mbps up/down. Just updated to poprocks v1, was on firelated v11x before. Could be the modem update or maybe tmo upgraded their towers here??

Could check and see if wideband was added in your area recently. There are a few links around for checking what band is available in your area. Service mode and phone info app can do those. Sounds like a happy coincidence! I doubt a modem updates gonna double your speeds lol! Enjoy your tower upgrades. I've seen a few new towers around my town pull 60Mbps down but average for me is 30-40. Depends how far away you are as well. Maybe they added a repeater or new tower close by your work?
so when I put in the bin and hit start. Nothing happens? Anyone know why?
Are you in download mode?
