I cant get the 7.7 to connect to ad-hoc networks. I found this as I can not use my HTC HD2 as a wifi hotspot with the 7.7. All my other devies can see the HD2 wifi hotspot (generated using barnacle WiFi) except the 7.7.
Very weird. Any thoughts of how to get over this as I did not by the 3G version as thought it would be easy to share the connection with my phone.
Ta
I will test my wifi version with my htc desire hotspot shortly and report back.
BTW, the HD2 is running Miui android (not wince). and as I say i can use barnacle wifi with all other devices and they see it as an ad-hoc network. The ad-hoc network may be a red herring but I dont think so?
Thanks

OK, it was a number of things.
1, ad-hoc networking does not work with the 7.7 so used the native @portable WLAN hotspot' in android from >Settings>System> Tethering and Hotspot which connects well
2, MY APN for Vodafone was set by default as as: APN = wap.vodafone.co.uk
username = wap
password = wap
I had to change this to: APN = internet
username = web
password = web
You may find that you need to change the APN settings for different operators too. Check

i have problem with using INTERNET via wi-fi, i'm using [mattc Leo + Froyo w/Sense RC1.3a].. is that just me who have this problem??
I use this version on my wifi and it works very well what is the problem, can you connect to the wireless network ?
thx for your reply
strange!!! it's work now for me
first was seen connect to the wireless network but could not surf ... etc.
anyway it works now!
No internet when switched to WiFi
I have the same issue. No internet when WiFi is turned on with darkstone HD2Froyo, Kernel 2.6.32.9-38076 (Cotulla 25/07/2010). I can ping my HD2 from my network over WiFi.
Seems as if the default gateway on my HD2 is not set in that case.
Is there an app to check the current ip settings?
I´m also wondering about the strange mac address my dhcp server shows me
00:11:22:33:44:55
^ that is the MAC address of your HD2 on the current Android build. We all have it -> CLICK
If you are usin MAC address filtering on the WiFi router, this is your problem - edit the MAC address list
Long shot but this worked for me.
wi-fi has worked no problem on most builds but anything with sense on it just wouldn't find my network, would find networks all around me but not the one sat next right to the phone!!!
Changed the channel on my router from 13 to 11 and hey presto, picked it up straight away

Tould you that i can ping the device so this has nothing todo with mac filtering.
Any other ideas?
I'm using the Darkstone Froyo build and WiFi works a treat when you enable it, the problem with it is that when the device is not in use and you activate the screen and unlock it, 9 times out of 10 it will be using 3g instead.
If you go into Settings -> Wifi it says "turning off"... then immediately goes to connecting to my home network wifi and all is well... ok, all is well until next time the device is idle
I have an i9023 UK version , 2.34 official version with 3G network (working on the phone)
I am now using the building wifi hotspot function (open)
my ipad2 & thinkpad T520 can both find the hotspot and connect
however, both deceives wont connect to the internet
my ipad shows me the DHCP config
IP address : 169.254.57.192
Network mask: 255.255.0.0
any suggesting? thanx
Well you have a self assigned IP address which is not going to get you anywhere. Try rebooting your phone or restarting the hotspot app.
Also try restarting your iPad as well.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
I did it multiple time reboot all the devices do I need to root? Thanx
Can anyone help me, I use static IP addresses to connect to my mobile devices, as such I need to know the IP config of the WLAN Hotspot on the pdaimatejam ROM
It may be that they are the same for all WP7 ROM's but am unable to connect using static adresses at the moment.
Many thanks

Thanks for that I hve already tried and it failed, I also have a specific requirement to use static information hence the post.
I used to use my Touch HD in this way and the settigs were
Ip adress: 192.168.1.2
Subnet:255.255.255.0
Gateway:192.168.1.1
DNS: 192.168.1.1
192.168.1.1 being the adress of the WLAN Hotspot ie Touch HD.
These settings do not work on the HD2 conecting to WP7 WLAN Hotspot so an looking for the config details so I can manually connect to them.
ok, to clarify: you want use hotspot on HD2 and want other to connect to HD2?
no manually settings... all is automatically... just turn ON WLAN hotspot on HD2 and other devices automatically must find him and connect, enter password and thats all
my Lumia 920 connect without problem to HD2 hotspot
if help this is IP address from HD2 hot spot:
IP: 192.168.33.2 (Lumia 920 IP)
default gateway: 192.168.33.1
dns: 192.168.33.1

No it is used as a wifi router for a couple of laptops which use static IP adresses, hence why I need the IP configuration of the HD2 with WLAN Hotspot.
I have tried on both laptops setting to autoipconfig and they dont work and also screws up their settings when used elsewhere.
All I need is the IP config details of WLAN Hotspot on WP7
Thank you
After much head scratching the solution is this:
If you set the IP setting to static in WLAN then these become your WLAN Hotspot settings as well...
Problem solved and phone now works properly with static IP connections.
Hello, I am trying to use my (rooted, Android 6.0.1) Moto X Play as WiFi hotspot for an iPhone 5S. I have setup the hotspot with WPA2 PSK.
On the iPhone I can see the network, connect, enter password. The connection then gets an orange text "No internet connection". When I check the settings, the IP address is in the 169.254 range, and the DNS and router/gateway IP addresses are empty.
I tried both 2,4 GHz and 5 GHz, with the same result.
I also tried to connect to the hotspot from a laptop running Windows 10. That one also did not get an IP address.
What do I need to do to make the Wifi hotspot function?
In your apn settings in your phone look for apn type. It should say default. Add a comma "," and "supl"

Where am I supposed to do that? On the phone acting as a hotspot or on the phone (or laptop) that is connecting to it?
On my phone (which I want to use as a hotspot) the APN showed "default". I added ",supl", but that did not help. Turned phone off and on again, same result.
According to this website the supl APN type:
Indicates the current APN configuration may be used for Secure User Plane Location (SUPL) data, a feature that allows your phone to determine its geographic location from the carrier.
Normally, SUPL data will be able to use the same APN configuration as general internet data, so there will be no need to specify this value explicitly: it will be covered by "default" and will still work fine.
BTW: Yesterday the iPhone could connect to another iPhone, which was acting as a hotspot.
So after searching I have finally have my setup for unlimited Hotspot.
Step 1. Download wifi tether router and setup for tmobile setup.
Interface wlan0
Method 3 - HostApd
Encryption wpa2-psk
Channel 1
Drivers nl80211
"HostApd Patch" <- UNCHECKED
"No Firmware Reload" <- UNCHECKED
Change your APN, simply navigate to Settings > More > Mobile networks > Access Point Names. Select your T-Mobile APN, and scroll to APN protocol. Change this to IPv4, and then save your APN.
Step 2. Download Hola free vpn proxy. You can find it in the play store.
With this setup I usually get 30 to 40 Mbps. I play Xbox live with no lag.
Thank you to many members here and Fabio creator of wifi tether router. Idk if this will work on all carriers but it does work with metro and most likely tmobile. If it does work please post your carrier.
Did you ever hit the tether cap on Metro with the built in tether? I haven't used it much since I seem to have free wifi now. But I have easytether pro, and it works great for USB.
