Ugh, broken phone! - Focus General

Well, I did it. I broke my phone. I rolled over it with my dispatch chair while answering a 911 call last week. While the outside glass is intact and scratchless, the OLED/digitizer layer underneeth is crasked and useless.
So I tried to get a replacment used focus off eBay. It came last night and I noticed it was running build 7004! I was thinking to myself that I had a few hours of upgrades before bed when I realized there was a reason for this. The phone has some sort of hardware fault that prevents it from syncing with Zune.
Since this prevents me from using 95% of the phone's software, apps, and features I made arrangments with the seller to return the item. So now I'm back at square one.
Anyone have an old, fully working Focus they are willing to part with for a reasonable fee?
Anyone have a broken focus with a working screen that I can put into the Focus? I believe the main board on my phone is working correctly, so all I would need to do is transport the main board into the body of a Focus with a working screen.
Thanks!

G1 with water damage - just a broken touch

Snowboarding yesterday in VT and my phone got water damage.
I let it dry out in a bag of rice overnight, bought a new battery (wasn't working with the original one), reinstalled my ROM and it seems to be working except that the touch screen isn't responding.
To fix this i need to install a new "digitizer"?
I'm making sure this is the part i need before i order it thanks.
I can't get past 'touch screen to begin' or else i would live with no touch screen for a few weeks until i qualify for a upgrade with tmobile.
I didn't mention that the screen isn't cracked. It just don't respond to touches.
Is all i need a digitizer? or the entire LCD?
most likely the digitizer. you should download the g1 service manual. i duno where its at. i have one on my laptop. let me know if you want me to send it to you. best of luck
i am having a similar issue with my g1,ive replaced the digitizer and still have the same issue
IMHO I would not spend any money on the phone because there could be other issues with it as well. The issues may not arise right now but they might in 2 weeks or months .. I would buy a new one or used..
Just may save you money in the long run.

Microphone stopped working

Anyone else had this problem yet? Had mine since Oct. 4th
I didn't try to do a data wipe. Just took it to T-mobile for a replacement. Didn't want it to start working again because I had got a scratch on my phone anyways and it was a good opportunity to get a replacement.
Me too. When I use my headphone, people on the other line can't hear me. This happen more than once. I try to do a hard reset but it still don't work.... anyone have any solution.

My issue was the microphone on the phone. Did you not buy from T-mobile or other authorized outlet? Your phone should be within warranty.
Another thing to try would be a Data wipe/factory reset.
Another thing I noticed is that when I charge my phone there is an LED in the earpiece. My last G2's LED must have been defective.
Hi, what happen if you buy the phone from craiglist, how can I return ?

Contact HTC about warranty service I guess. I don't understand why someone would sell the phone on craigslist when it is within the 14 day return policy for tmobile where you can get a full refund unless maybe it was stolen.
You can contact HTC here: http://www.htc.com/europe/CA_Hotline.aspx?region=NorthAmerica
I'm just speculating here, but it's based on past experience with flexible connectors like the one used to bridge the display portion to the body. I'm surprised to see the possible defect occurring so early in life of this handset, but the fact that the ribbon is forced to bend back 180 with a radius of less than 1mm when the display is open puts a LOT of stress on the thin conductors of the ribbon. The problem might have been precluded by HTC using carbon traces rather than typical metallic copper on this critical component. See for yourself by looking at your phone edgewise next time you flip it open. If we're lucky and enough handsets fail like this HTC MIGHT do something of a product recall. Incidentally, has anyone with a dead mic also experienced random screen garbage or erratic touch response? Again I point to the same design flaw.
Here's to hoping I'm dead wrong guys!
This problem just happened to me. With no apparent reason, the internal speaker stopped working. People can hear me, but I canĀ“t hear anything.
Funny thing tho, if I activate the external speaker, it works. The problem is the internal speaker only.
Is it a known problem like the shoddy usb connector on some kaisers ?

dont say anything to tmobile about where you bought it from. there is a one year warranty the original date of purchase. at least there was with the motorola cliq that i got off craigslist. returned it for a fab'd one without scratches gonna do it one more time right before the year is up haha
My G2's mic has also stopped working, been looking around different websites for parts, but I can't seem to find it, u guys know anyone?
If I use it with the headphones/mic, it works fine, people hear me and all. If not, people can't hear me.
FWIW, I had this exact problem shortly before Christmas. the mic started by cutting out sometimes, then failing altogether. Using an external mic worked fine so it wasn't software, just the physical connection to the built in mic. I'm pretty sure that sivalley is right in his speculation that the issue is the flexible ribbon connector.
Fortunately for me my phone was under warranty and HTC arranged to pick it up etc.
Weirdly the day before they were due to pick it up, the whole screen stopped working. I could power up and feel the vibration etc, but the screen never came on. Again I think the common factor was the flexible ribbon.
When HTC repaired it it came with a long list of things they'd replaced to get it working again, so it may not be as simple as just replacing a ribbon connector.
I have no idea whether it's possible to source the parts, but it might be worth finding out how much HTC would charge to fix it if it's not under warranty (could still be a good deal)

Touchscreen problems (phone off local classifieds)

Recently upgraded from a Captivate. Picked up an Atrix for $240 ish off Kijiji, and after trying out in the car for a quick phone call seemed fine.
Until i got home, and realized that the screen is done.
No box just the phone and cable so not sure if i can send it in for warranty. Thus i figured i can either sell the phone for a loss and grab a much crappier phone. OR i can repair it and just use it.
So there's a certain panel at the bottom that doesn't seem to be too reactive, and doesn't register touch from time to time, as well as towards the top corners of the screen any pressure would result in random touches being registered towards the bottom of the screen - seen using touchtest app off the market today to pinpoint my touch problems.
Video illustrates my problems - sorry about quality - video taken using a piece of .... blackberry.
I figure the digitizer is seated wrong wondering if a seating is needed or a whole new one? Or if it's a different problem all together.
I figured it's more viable i just repair it, as the phone is quite fast if it weren't for the stupid screen I'd love it (also lack of case and screen protector is annoying - but I already ordered them!) .
Any advice would be great!

[Q] Touchscreen Randomly Stopped Working

Ok, so first thing's first. I've been researching this for a few days now before creating this post. The touchscreen issues I'm finding online, are similar to what I'm experiencing, but the solutions have already been done, or my phone is not responding to them. I'm making this thread to see if anyone else has experienced the same issues or has any new news before I a) return my phone to stock, b) replace the digitizer, or c) buy a new one or upgrade to the G3.
My G2 was rooted, but kept on stock ROM with only small tweaks here and there. After the latest update, I noticed my work G2 had much better reception, so I returned my phone to stock to download the update. After updating, I re-rooted the phone, this time, the only thing I changed was the keyboard which I replaced with the G3 keyboard. Everything was fine for months until about a month ago.
It started with not being able to pull down the notification shade on the right half. No biggie, but after a week or so, it got worse. While using instagram, I noticed that the confirm button was sporadically responsive. Sometimes it worked fine, other times it didn't work at all. It began to progressively get worse on an almost daily basis. I decided to see what was going on and enabled both input options in the developer options menu. I found that the entire right side, about 1/8" was not responding to touch, the area not covered by glass screen protector( i removed it later while trying to troubleshoot). The upper right area showed about a half inch block that wasn't responding (the area where the data ribbon is). I was ok with that as instagram was really the only thing I used being affected.
About a week ago, the mid left screen area started being errratic. It began to get worse and started to affect the front touch screen buttons ( the area where the other data ribbon is). I enabled the input options again and saw that I now had a good portion of my left side of the screen was unresponsive. Even though I didn't drop it, I thought maybe the data ribbons had come loose as those 2 areas are where they are. I opened and disassembled the phone and re-sat the connctions after inspecting them. I double-checked all the other connections and LDIs in case humidity was the culprit. Everything looked good. Didn't fix the problem.
I've had to set my phone to unlock by facial recognition to ensure I don't get locked out, and changed my pin to use numbers not affected. I'm going to replace the digitizer, but wanted to see if anyone else had the same issue, or knew if it was, indeed, a software issue before I spend $75 (I will be replacing the digitizer and LCD to get it working sooner rather than risk damaging the LCD while replacing the digitizer and having to wait another week). I don't want to send it in to LG because I bought it on ebay and have no proof of purchase for warranty, and I want it working sooner.
One thing I noticed that may help with diagnosing, the screen now looks different when off. Before, in direct sunlight, you could see the dotted matrix from the digitizer, and that was it. Now, I can see the retangular pattern across the entire screen. I checked my work G2 which I just received a few months ago and the rectangular pattern is only visible on the edges of the screen, the center is black with only the dotted matrix visible. Keep in mind, this is in direct sunlight. In shade, the rectangles are visible on both.
I'm hoping it's a software issue, but I'm wondering if the digitizer is starting to separate from the LCD. I don't see any acutal separation though.
Thanks for reading the book, and for any feedback. Also, because it will probably come up, I want to avoid upgrading if I can because the G3 is just a little too big.
I restored the phone to stock with the most up to date software. Still doesn't work. It appears to be a hardware issue. I really thought it was software because the dead spots word for a split second after turning on the phone. Oh well. Guess I'm going to order a new digitizer or LCD combo.

Any tip with a loose camera fix?

So, something happened with my camera. It's not like my phone has never been droped but the last two days I have been fighting this problem. My phone seems to need more presure on camera contact to motherboard than it can achieve by just pushing the thing. Camera is working if I keep some pressure on the contact with the mobo, but as soon as I take the pressure off camera goes black. I'm thinking on attaching some bulky thing right on the contact to get enough pressure there... my phone is not under warranty anymore and I literally don't trust technicians around here.
So, have you ever had a similar problem? Do you know some way to help or get a camera replacement or a tip on how to repair this pinning problems? Anything?
I am facing the same problem for over 2 months. To today I haven't got any solution. According to local repair shops there's a problem with the motherboard and it needs replacement. I visited the Xiaomi official service center but the told me to submit the phone for two weeks. I asked other customers there and they told me that it takes about a month for Xiaomi to repair and return the phone, so I came back as it's the only phone I have?. I'm just helpless.

I did put a bulky object between the two plastic layers in the back of my phone and camera is working again. My warranty was already lost and made sure contact was loose on the mobo, but you may try this without opening your redmi, unless you know for a fact the problem is with the mobo.
Thanks a lot I will try it.
doesnt help me in any way; always have to apply pressure at different spots on the backside of the phone. so i am pretty much helpless, beating the hell out of my phone when i need my camera to work. smh...
Hey i have the same issue for rear camera, though front camera is working. Took to service center, they said to change the mobo...wtf...Also tried to open the screw and pressed the camera socket in mobo, tried to press while camera is on, but nothing works. Searched in google, all are saying its a hardware issue and pressing back camera will work, but no luck for me. Don't want to loose this tiny magic phone with all android developments are happening. Recent 64 Bit rom by pirej is working smoothly. But will miss camera. Any other way to activate this....
