One the device is fully wiped, its nearly impossible. If you have problems, contact LG from the warranty info because there the only ones that'll repair the device under the one year warranty.
Good luck.

I also have a couple of questions about this. Are the RMA devices that are shipped out by Google usually Refurbished devices? Has anyone who have had RMA devices found any defects in them? and Can I just send back the RMA unit if I find that it has worse problems than my current unit? Thanks.

And to answer your last question i do not see any reason why you wouldnt be able to send it back if it has problems because when you bought your device from google you entered a legally binding contract where you pay for the device and they have to send you the goods you paid for which is a fully functional device so yeah if the 2nd one is defective just let them know
Wasn't sure if I should post this here or under accessories but since it's a question....
So my wife has her Sprint Samsung S4 for less than a week (contract renewal though Best Buy) and she already managed to break the front glass. The digitizer and LCD are OK.
Sprint wants $150 to fix it. Are there any other options while still getting a quality replacement? I'm up for giving it a shot if it's not terribly difficult and I can find a reputable dealer for an OEM replacement part.
Any suggestion on how/where to get the repair done cheaper? If not, does anyone know a reputable source for an OEM replacement part? It's hard to trust any of the eBay sellers without confirmation since most of the glass replacement items appear to be facsimiles.

It's ten bucks and compatible with our phone. (sph-l720) for ten percent of the cost of sprint fixing it, even if it is a cheap knockoff, it would probably be worth it.

Yeah I saw those but I really want to replace it with an OEM part (Gorilla Glass), otherwise I fear I'll have to do this more than once.
I do not recommend those kits at all. You will end up hating the phone...digitizer not working/unresponsive...bubbles...dust inside the screen, etc. In addition, the AMOLED screen below that cracked screen are attached together using a special kind of glue. You need to be extremely careful when removing the old screen...otherwise, you're going to end up cracking the AMOLED.
IMHO, your viable options:
1) Have a professional do it for you using LOCA (liquid optically-clear adhesive) glue to fuse the replacement screen to the AMOLED (just like how Samsung does it). Make sure you check the guy's references before deciding to have the guy do it. If he's really good, your phone should look and perform like new.
2) Replace the entire housing. You can buy new/like-new complete housings in ebay for about $100. This housing basically includes everything except for the phone motherboard. You simply move your old motherboard to the new housing. There are a few youtube S4 disassembly tutorials on how to do it. My favorite is this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zm4f2XjQLAM
The price difference between #1 and #2 isn't much. Doing #2 guarantees that I have my screen as good as new. If you're lucky and you can find a guy who can do #1 for you the right way...you may get satisfactory results and may save you a few bucks.

Thanks for the info AlpineMan. If I can find a housing for this phone for $100 then I would prefer to go that route. You mean with LCD/digitizer/front glass/rear cover correct? Unfortunately I only see that for $200 ignoring stuff sent from China. Here's the search criteria I used: "complete s4 i9500 housing". I also tried with SPH-L720.
Search for Sprint Galaxy S4 housing.

Make sure you're buying housing specifically for Sprint Galaxy S4.

I came across someone locally who got burned on craigslist with an Att Galaxy S5. It worked fine then shortly after is was blacklisted so I got it for cheap from them just trying to get any of their money back. I have seen several listings on ebay claiming they can give you a good imei. Does anyone here have experience with this?

This topic is very frowned upon around here, and many people erranously believe it is illegal. That being said, there is one guy in new York who was a pretty good feedback from it. I had my wife's Note 3 done locally and it is possible but can depend on the phone. I'll look for the eBay guy I saw and pm it to you if I can. Be ready for this thread to be shut down quite soon though.

And because people are sure to come here upset about this, here's a bit of info showing that it is not yet illegal in the states, unless of course Senate is trying to pass a bill trying to make a law to cover something already illegal.
https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!msg/comp.mobile.android/ShZxf0ALSXI/XvzwW4eP0sIJ
And again, the Congress site showing the bill as introduced, but not approved or passed into law. Therefore completely legal at this stage. https://www.congress.gov/bill/113th-congress/senate-bill/1070

Had it done remotely before from eBay after being screwed over. That was an S4, but it is possible. Whole process took less than an hour.
At the moment the s8 screen repair costs £219 via Samsung and I find it to be a bit too steep for a three year old model.
Now that the s10 is out, I speculate that the price should drop soon as the s8 has become another generation older.
I couldn't find any details on when the price usually drops .
I wonder if anyone could give me some advice re this.
I'm also thinking of abandoning Samsung and their Apple ways, in favour of either OnePlus or a chinese brand maybe.
The thing is, that I'm perfectly happy with my S8, apart from the broken screen. I wasn't planning on upgrading until the arrival of the next gen batteries but fate had different plans for me it seems.
Any advice would be welcome.

Buy you a bad one online such as hardbricked frp locked or at worst black listed and fixx it yourself. They are not bad to fix. And if I'm not mistaken aftermarket screen prices have dropped a bit.
I got one when I did mine and swapped the frame and all over.

That's a good idea, thanks!
Any idea when the prices for official repair might drop? Or have they already recently?

I saw a place here in the states a while back some one showed me a decent price I can't remember an amount. But when we all started of coarse I was a 6 months late on getting s8 on release but even last December it was right about 300usd or so

Of coarse if you do your own more than likely the water resistance is gone but who's guaranteeing theirs as well. I never put much stark into water resistant phones as it's shown like crazy don't get Sammy's wet you will see problems eventually. If not today maybe tomorrow.
