Dreaming about the Note! - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

I held a Note at the local cellular store the other day and I thing I fell in love. I currently have a Galaxy S and I do love it (Except the crappy GPS) but my contract is up next November and I started to see what is out there and what is coming out in the near future.
As my motto is The Bigger the Better when is comes to screen size (with-in reason) I wondered if the Note would be too big. But, it's not. I really like the size and it fits in my pockets as well.
So, last night I had a dream I lost my Galaxy S and I was running all over trying to find it, going out of my mind. The next thing, I tripped and my phone jumped out of a secret pocket (it's a dream remember) and when I picked it up, it was a Galaxy Note.
My contract is up when the Note will be about a year old. Does Has anyone heard if a new version is coming around that time? I know it's a while away, but I am curious.
Thanks,
Ian

no news about the next Note, but given the fanfare this version has received, it's nearly inevitable that there will be one. just hang on

One thing I've learned: It's simply not worth it to wait for month and hope. Just go for it and be happy...
@GPS: I've got my Note yesterday, so I could'nt test it properly yet. But one thing surprised me today: I walked to a local grocery store and used the app "GPS status & toolbox". I started it and had 5 seconds (no lie!) later a fix with 17 satellites! Holy crap, that was quick!

This is great to hear. My GPS only works with a ROM from Europe. I have never had GPS with the stock BMC (Canada) ROM.
Hey, leppo, how does your GPS work with the Canadian version? Are you still on the stock ROM?
Ian

i ordered the international version from an importer nearby, and the gps is amazing... very similar experience to the above poster. if you want to know how the Bell/Telus/Rogers version performs, head over to the Note i717 (AT&T) forum. they're the same thing.

I dreaming about one too.... Still using a Omnia II with WM6.5. Got another year to wait on my contract (corporate, no early upgrade options) tempted to just buy one and then wont have to be locked into another contract for a while.

I felt the EXACT SAME WAY, because it hadn't even been a year yet since I bought my HTC HD2, but after I lost it, I went ahead and bought the note.
Trust me when I tell you this, IT WAS WORTH IT. The note is the best toy you can buy, until the note 2 comes out. And even then, the note will hold you over until the note 3 comes out. Even with it's imperfections, the note is badass.

Actually, I got it through a clever dealer who arranged for me to get a Nexus on 3yr subsidy with Bell, then swapped it for this Note. I paid $140 for it, including the price to get the Nexus

The Note has GPS and the russian GLONASS (GPS is american). More satelites = faster and more reliable.

I literally had a dream about one....lol....now that dream is becoming a reality International White version will be here Monday

I' m dreamin about one too. I'm an illustrator, and i saw some awesome artwork on this forum. My contract is until september, so i,m closer to get mine. I was wondering the same thing about a new version. I'm sure there will be a new note in 2013.

anyone know where ot get an unlocked, no Bell bloatware version in Canada?

I got mine through a company called "Mobile DNA", which is a store in Richmond BC. They can be found on facebook... Though there are undoubtedly some stores nearer to you.

If you're going to buy the Note, I suggest you do what leppo did and get the international version. If the Bell/Rogers version is the same as the AT&T version, it has the Snapdragon 1.5GHz dual core processor which I read is not as fast as the Exynos Dual-core 1.4GHz processor.
Are you going to root your Note? If so, use Titanium Back-up to remove all the bloatware you don't want. I do that, I remove all the software that comes with Android I do not use.
Ian

Mobile DNA is only BC, not Ontario, but thanks. I would like to get the international version if at all locally as I don't like the wait! Not sure about rooting it yet, I'm thinking I'll just play around with it for a while before rooting it or flashing it.

Got some hands on time today with Vibrant 4G

I went by the local into mobile store (which is now a direct outlet for corp store for T mobile.) and a rep I know showed me the Samsung 4g demo they just got in today. I really like the silver color in the back and the it seems to have a slightly heavier feel to it. Feels better in my hand than my Vibrant does. The demo was fast and very smooth and could not detect any lag. It was showing 4 bars of H and was very very fast downloading from market. Seemed even smoother than the custom roms I have (and have now) have used. I was a little impressed. I still do not believe it is worth an upgrade from my Vibrant but it does have me thinking. Anyone else have any comments or experience with the new 4G?
I got a friend who's a T-mobile rep and one who's a T-Mobile store manager (both at the same store) and I got to play with it a little while. It was pretty nice. It definately feels a little snappier than any of the roms I've used on my Vibrant. I'm pretty stoked about picking mine up tomorrow morning.
And for all the haters pondering as to why I would by a V4G when I already had a Vibrant? I sold my Vibrant for $250, I'm paying $200 for the V4G = no money out of my pocket. $50 extra FTW.

I'm giving the vibrant to my smartphone virgin girlfriend who couldnt be happier to get my vibrant with bionix V and the purple theme. in turn I get a new SGS4G by starting a line for her and in 5 months im elegable for an upgrade on my line... hello dual core phone.
Yeah i got some hands on time with one a few days ago. It was nice but not impressive. The S2 will be the game changer for me not this one but it still is a nice phone, just only a tad better than the Vibrant

Did you upgrade in order to get the discounted price? If so imo that was a horrible decision with the dual core phones on the horizon and the Vibrant 4G just isn't worth the upgrade with only a few benefits over the original.

Important note on internal app storage for the Galaxy 4g...Internal space for apps is about 210mb(1gb total for internal memory this time and the rest is the Rom, etc)...I barley put on any apps and it keeps giving me the warning that my memory is full and I need to uninstall apps even though it says I have 50mb free ...I already moved every app I can the the SD card but missing the old Vibrant's internal storage already...Not going to be so easy to just flash new ROM's either. On a positive note, the phone is fairly responsive compared to Bionix running at 1.4ghz. Of course you can tell the differance, but it doesn't feel as slow as I thought it would

A coworker of mine has the original we put them side by side and with him showing a 3G signal I was getting 3000+ on the download speed where as he was only getting 700. He is running the official Froyo update.

You can upgrade before the 2 year mark. I believe you are eligible for a full upgrade discount after 22 months. You are however eligible for discounts prior to that time but it will be at a smaller discount. Lets say at phone is $199 at full discount, then it will most likely be in the $300 - $350 range at one year. I hope that makes sense.
Also note the Vibrant 4G is selling for $149 on amazon right now. Don't tell anyone.
not really sure where to ask this since there isnt a V4G section up yet but has anyone tried rooting this thing yet?

What phone are you moving from to the Galaxy S II?

As the title says, I think it would be interesting to see where our new Galaxy S II community is coming from.
I'm personally coming from a Galaxy S 1.
So, what was your previous phone before the Galaxy S II? You can select multiple options if you have multiple phones simultaneously, but only vote for phones you had DIRECTLY before getting your SGS II, not ones you've had in the past.
EDIT: Samsung option should say '2010 or newer Android', includes other Samsung Android phones from 2010. Oh, and obviously by Galaxy S II I mean Galaxy S...can't imagine anyone is already moving from an S II to an S II...

My Desire started overheating with GPS & 3G (known hardware issue), but I won't be anywhere near a service centre I could use for months. Guess that's gonna get passed down to my wife once I can get it fixed.
Now I just need to find a place to buy the SGS2 somewhere in Malaysia or Thailand (with a intl. warranty). Any suggestions?

May 5th Samsung/AT&T Press Conference, Not For SGS2

If you didn't already hear, the press conference between AT&T and Samsung was not for the Galaxy S II. It was of course for the Infuse 4G. This will be the first of AT&T phones to be capable of up to 21Mbps, assuming you are in an area where the cell towers have fiber backhaul in place.
That being said, there is another press conference from Samsung(and Samsung alone, no carriers mentioned with it) that will take place May 24th. This is what people are presuming to be the Galaxy S II, and takes place exactly 11 months after the press conference for the original Galaxy S line.
Now, my question to all of you is, if you are in serious need of a phone, what do you think is the best choice to do in this situation? I have all lines available for an upgrade, starting tomorrow, as this will mark 11 months after, which makes me within 30 days of my 1 year mark of this contract, and the guy at the AT&T store said I can do the upgrade if I am within 30 days(I said that confusingly, but it made sense in my head, so I hope you all understood).
I am sitting here with a Motorola Backflip, the slowest and worst phone you could ever want. Okay not true, but I think I'd rather have a simpler phone with its own random OS that runs smoothly on it since it would be designed for it. So I want to get a new phone ASAP, but I really would like the Galaxy S II. Should I just go ahead and get the Infuse 4G since I am desperate? Or do you think it would be worth waiting for Galaxy S II? I have multiple upgrades, so I may just get the Infuse for now and still get Galaxy S II when it comes, but at that point I would have to pay for it. If I just wait for Galaxy S II, I won't have to pay, but I'd be without a good phone for a while, and it's already been long enough. I think that I may end up being fine with the Infuse, but the GSII seems so nice, I'm gonna want it anyway.
I'm kinda trying to save up my money, I get a couple hundred every two weeks, but I end up spending a lot, and a phone would cost me a whole paycheck.
Anyways what do you guys think on this whole situation, whether it's about the May 24th press conference, or what phone I should get, or whatever.
The infuse will be an afterthought. It runs 2.2... it'll have little dev support and tweaking/upgradability will be much less likely. Old hardware as well except for the screen and 4.5" is just too big imo.
Wait for the SGS2
if you look at the at&t facebook page..the 24th showcase may be for tablets..not sure if its for sg2. i have it marked down tho..but i would try out the infuse. you said you have multiple upgrades..so why not.

Actually the whole GS2 on T-mobile USA rumor started when t-mo accidentally responded to a tweet about the GS2 and they confused it for the GS 4G... they corrected themselves but the rumors had already spread.. I would love this device on T-mobile or Sprint.. but Sprint is just getting around to releasing the Nexus S 4G... not a bad phone but when it wasn't cutting edge when the original was announced last winter..

No mention of Tmobile

http://store.wirexgroup.com/default.aspx?page=item+detail&itemcode=SILGALAXYS2BK
For the "Samsung Galaxy S 2 Attain(at&t), Function(Verizon), and Within(Sprint)", but nothing about T-Mobile.
I suppose 1this could be 1 of many things, either T-mobile just hasn't come up with a name yet, that case is for some reason not allowed to mention the T-mobile version, the t-mobile version will be physically different, T-mobile isn't actually getting one, etc...
I wouldn't personally assume the last one, but it still makes it seem like anyone with T-mobile will be waiting the longest. It also goes to show we will probably not be getting one phone to rule them all and have to deal with different versions, then again maybe they will just each be individually branded but development can still span each one but I am not holding my breath.
I dunno, just didn't see this posted and was yelling "Noooooo!" at my laptop so I figured I would risk being an ass hat by posting this.
It's okay, I was thinking the same thing when I didn't see a post. Anyway, I think this and the postponement of the May 24th event in NYC was the last straw for me. It probably means that it'll be at least a month before any carrier gets the SGSII and I just can't wait that long. I'm probably going to get the Sensation and just find alternative apps to cover the crappy codec support if it actually has decent audio hardware.
it could just mean 3 to 6 more month before we get the Tmobile version
just like the Nexus S
Sprint took like 6 month after, before they got theirs, which was just released by the way
I'm on T-Mobile too, and I sure hope they release within the next month or so... I've been waiting since the MWC show and thought it would be sooner, but since this will be my first smart phone, so I guess patience is the word of the day.

by that time samsung will announce a new version of the phone. And then this same process starts again...!
If T-Mobile is delaying the release of the SGS2, they might as well skip it and be the first to release the SGS3.
Hopefully it just means the tmo version is slightly different and would require a different gel case. Samsung sold a **** tons of Vibrants so I hardly think tmo would skip out on this one. Does anyone know which carrier sold more sgs's? I tried searching for numbers but just keep coming up with overall sgs sales.

However Amazon said they would give me a full refund despite it being out of the 30 day period. I'm too afraid to invest in another international Note though. So now I need to decide which AT&T phone I should get. Any ideas? I don't want to wait much later than June to get a new phone by the way.
HTC one x, or the note.

I know you're afraid to go with the international Note again, but as long as you stay away from ICS for now, you should be fine, right? Unless you're totally unable to go back to GB, which I can totally understand.

Even if I stay away from ics I'm afraid something else might happen and that I won't get as lucky. I really like the one x but the lack of an sd card slot is kinda a deal breaker. The Galaxy S3 looks somewhat promising though and is pretty big.
Wow amazon giving you full refund.. ? How long did you have it for?

I mail them the phone back with the prepaid mailing slip and when they receive it they'll send me a check for a full refund.

That is very awesome for Amazon to take it back well after 30 days.
I wish I contacted Amazon before ordering the replacement Note (yeah, my first Note was bricked by the LP6 kernel ).
If you are really sticking with AT&T only devices, I think the I717 would fit you best. It's a direct replacement of what you had (minus the home-button). I had the I717 for two hours, then I decided to sell it for the N7000 instead because of the developments available. The One X is also a good choice, but the AT&T version lost its "quad-core edge" compared to the international version.

The AT&T version's S4 isn't that bad but only 16G rom with no micro-sd slot is a deal breaker for me. I dislike the AT&T's Note as well because of the slow qualcomm CPU. I would rather get another N7000 or wait for GSIII for the moment.

I would wait for the S3 or buy a used Note. That last "new" phones were bought were Captivates. After that 2 SGS IIs and my Note Used. Saving our upgrades for iPhone 5s to sell unless ATT decided to dump our UL MediaNet plans to upgrade. Then we won't upgrade at all. Don't need LTE. WiFi is everywhere.
I'm confused why blame the note for upgrading unoffically to the wrong firmware version for you phone? It's country specific? So at the end of the day you don't like the Note?
I personally can't see a replacement for the note till the next version comes out.
Get another Note is my choice.
Awesome you got a refund!

Right, but the OP explicitly stated that he/she wants to stick with AT&T's devices. The N7000's super-brick wave is strong as of late, and there is no way to get it warrantied through Samsung in the US (I'm in the US, too, and my first Note was bricked by LP6) besides sending it back to where it was originally sold for service.
The advantage to having an AT&T device is that should it be super-ultra-hard-bricked or any other faults, it can be brought back to the DSC (Device Support Center) for an exchange within the 1-year warranty period.
International Note + CM9. Better than anything out there.

Sorry to post my question into your thread but I could not ignore your experience with the GN International bought from Amazon.de
I am just about to go the same route as you did, and because I also had one problem with a product bought from Amazon and the way they've handled it so brilliantly that I was thrilled with their after sale service.
I was asked to send it back and because I was given a bar code which I glued on the box I didn't have to pay the shipping cost (just needed a printer and some glue). And because I've asked for the money back instead of Amazon credit I had the money in 4 days maximum instead of instantly, which in my book is amazing.
Now I am considering of buying a G.NOTE from German Amazon or Spanish Amazon. The price difference is 2 Euros so it's not a deal breaker so my question is:
Do German G. NOTEs have a problem and would it be preferable for me to get one from Spain or is it all the same thing and I should not worry much about it?
Thank you all for your answeres.
Don't you worry about German or Spanish versions. They are the same as long as you buy unbranded exemplars. The sole difference is the rom version. Just make sure you buy a N7000.

Wait ....I thought the N7000 was the AT&T US version??? I had understood that the major difference between the US and Intl versions was the physical button.
I just ordered the AT&T version. I also cannot consider a "Flagship" device one without SDCard capability.....might as well get an iPhone. I don't get why the decision with that, being that the EVO 4G LTE has the SDCard ...it's the same phone rebranded....That just ticks me off. Same reason I could not buy the GNex.
I'm just hoping that the SGIII comes out with in my 30 day return period in case I don't like the Gnote.

SGH-I777 or get an unlocked HSPA+ Gnex off of the Play Store.
The AT&T Note is a crippled derpbeast. The AT&T One X is even more heavily locked than other HOX units.

No.
The SGH-I777 was the last Samsung device on AT&T to only have minor differences from the international version. (touchkeys, NFC, slight audio differences for calls)
The AT&T Note has the following in common with the international version:
Physical dimensions, Wacom digitizer, screen type, name - that's it. EVERYTHING else about the device is completely different.
