Sorry to hear of your loss The refurbished phones I've received in the past have come in brown, generic looking boxes.
Not always the case. There are reports on xda that the refurbs that people have been getting have not been hardware locked. And even if it is there is a fix on the site for it. yep the best way to tell is when it comes in a brown generic box

My replacement through Asurion was in the original black box with all accessories.

Yes, it was 130

It means that you cannot enter recovery/download mode using the hardware keys.

Don't take my word on it, but i think that when you call Asurion's for a replacement they send you a new one, and the replacements under warranty are refurbished.
With your new replacement you might want to be extra careful with it. I was told on a phone I had to replace that it would no longer be covered under manufacturers warranty through T-Mobile and if you ever had any problems you would have to go through Asurion for any replacement. This was a few years ago so I am not sure if it is correct still or not but I thought I would give you a heads up from what they told me when I replaced a phone.

New phones come in new boxes with the tape still on them, since they have never been opened. It'll still have all the factory packaging on them, etc.
If your phone is on backorder, then you have a 99% chance of getting a new phone (I got 2 brand new replacements ).
If not, then you have maybe a 50% chance of getting a brand new phone.
Maybe you'll be lucky and get the phone I just sent back. Only thing that was wrong is that I locked myself out of it (it was a brand new replacement, locked myself out the next day ). I did put the purple cover on it to keep the black one, though, and it was hardware-locked XD

This is true. When I locked myself out of the replacement, it was through Asurion.
And the phone was backordered, so I had to wait almost two weeks to get a replacement.
But it was a replacement phone. Came straight from the factory, pretty much, judging by the date on the box (dated 3 days before I recieved it).
Odd thing is for my first replacement, they were backordered, but I got the phone the next day.

Useless info, because the deductible depends on the phone type. TP2 is a cheap, old phone compared to the Vibrant.
The deductible for Vibrants and G2s is $130 US.
I just noticed my volume rocker is broken. The down button doest have much spring its original springiness to it and although it still recognizes my presses...both now functions as the volume-up button.
Anyone know how to fix this. Will my local sprint store fix it ? If so...would I need to unroot?
i dont need a signature
You need to run the ruu and turn it back in to sprint for a replacement
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
This is not something that they can just fix? I don't have warranty on it.

quick followup
i just realized if i RUUd my phone, and they aren't able to fix my volume rocker, i wouldn't be able to do get into the bootloader again to re-root my phone.
is there any other way to get into the bootloader without the down-volume button?
I don't see why they wouldn't be able to fix it

it's possible that there's permanent damage on the device that cannot be fixed...and since i don't have insurance for it, it's not gonna be replaced.
i just want to make sure i have all my bases covered.
wow, just came back from sprint...and to my surprise, they decided to replace my phone for the standard $35 non-insured fee. that was kinda nice. i hope i don't get a refurb though.

Yes sir a refurbished model is what you get, they wanted to do that to me when their network was slow they said it was my 33 day old phone I paid full price for(it wasn't the phone lol), they see it as you give them a brandnew "damaged"phone and you get a working refurb....

hey everyone, need a little help.
so my beloved evo is starting to have screen problems, with only 3 months left on my contract to go =(.
Now, here's the thing: only the backlight is not working. So if i turn on the screen, it actually is on. I can see that it is when i shine a flashlight into the screen. Everything still shows. I know its not because of a rom because i pulled the battery and it's like this on every screen, bootloader, recovery, the initial boot logo, etc.
I considered buying another phone, but given that i only have 3 months left on the contract, i figured it might be easier to just replace the broken part.
Does anyone know which part to replace in particular, or do I need to replace the whole screen? (not sure if the backlighting is part of the screen hardware).
Thanks in advance!
I think Sprint will try to fix the phone first ,if the technician can't fix the problem he will order you a new phone for free only if you have insurance ,so take it to your nearest Sprint ,some Sprint stores don't have tech support though you just ask if they do phone repair,.........oh and plz,plz UNROOT first before taking the phone

insurance is the thing you were supposed to pay for, right? if so, i dont have it.
also, kind of hard to unroot without being able to see the screen lol. It was hell just trying to figure who sent me text messages, let alone do anything else.

Thanks alot, this turned out to work better than I expected. The dude was able to replace the screen for me for $35, and did it within 10 minutes. You were right, he didnt care that it was rooted. He said it was cool what I did with it, in fact (thank the devs here!).
I also got really really lucky when I did this yesterday, cuz it just so happens that a Samsung mobile sales specialist (i think that's what his title is) was showcasing the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to the employees. He was nice enough to let me look at it as well, and I must say, it's a very very nice device. I just might upgrade to that when it comes out.

Yeah, that actually kinda does answer my original question. Technically, it is hard to look on Amazon if you don't know which part you're looking for. I only found out after the guy at the Sprint store who changed out the part for me told me that you just replace the whole screen. I initially wasnt sure if it was just simply the whole thing, or if there was a separate part for just the backlighting so that I didnt have to pay for a whole lcd screen. Also, buying a new lcd screen costs around 25$ on ebay. I paid 10 extra dollars to have it changed for me. Can't complain. The dude was done in less than 10 minutes.
Regardless, I got the phone fixed, and found my new potential upgrade phone =)
Glad you got it fixed

Hi, just thought I would start a thread about HTC repair service.
Today I sent my phone to HTC UK for repair after being stuck in a constant boot loop on the start up screen, recovery and bootloader.
I will update the thread when I here what HTC are going to do and the cost so should anyone else have to use HTC repair service in the UK they will have an idea what to expect.
I'm interested on seeing what will happen.
What have you done to the phone?
S-off?
Rooted?

Was it really necessary to send it off? Did you try to RUU back to stock, I was in a similar situation after running S-OFF, RUUed to stock and the phone came back to life.

from wat I read theres a certain order you have to follow in order to relock your bootloader, or else it causes a brick, either way once you unlock your BL, the warranty becomes invalidated from HTC if i recall, assuming the reason for the exchage/repair is related to an unlocked BL. Good luck with HTC, hope they replace the phone.

Did you buy direct from HTC? I had some serious issues with mine after 2 days, all my doing I might add lol, I took mine back to Carphone Warehouse and they just swapped it straight over ... I only ask cos I'm curious why you didn't just go back to the shop you bought it from?

I bought it in a local shop on contract and I didn't think they would be able to help me, as I thought they would have sent it back to HTC for repair, and once they got it back they would have seen it was unlocked and rooted there for I had void my warranty.

I took mine back mate, like I said, to Carphone Warehouse and I'd unlocked the bootloader, rooted and managed to wipe the OS off of the phone lol. I got a bit swipe happy in TWRP and before I knew it I was stuck on the HTC bootup screen. Being that there was no RUU available and not enough knowledge of adb, fastboot etc, I felt like crying but figured what's the worst Carphone Warehouse can say? No? ... Luckily they were sound and just swapped it straight over, I imagine because although I didn't know what to do, there was an easy fix to sort the phone out so it wasn't like I'd ****ed it haha
Good luck anyways, hopefully they just sort it for ya and at no cost ... Better still lol

Update:
Not good news, I got my phone back with a unable to repair form with a tick in the box for illegel software/unlock bootloader.
I told them it was ulocked and had illegel software on it when I booked it for repair and they told me I would probably need a new motherboard which could cost £100 which I said was fine, I was not expecting them to send it back with a unable to repair form.
Any suggestions what I should do now?

I don't know how much you tried to fix it, but I've seen a lot of people fix this by side loading a rom, and erasing the cache, and sometimes formatting a partition. If you haven't tried that, it might work.

You mean, bought from one carrier and using the phone with a different carrier? Typically the carrier you purchased the phone with takes care of warranties. But if you've stopped using that carrier and moved to a different one then warranty is now void.

Doesn't matter which carrier. But there is a difference between warranty and insurance. Insurance it doesnt matter. They are third party and won't even look at the phone. Don't even say anything. You could even just smash it and get a new one.
But if it is manufacturer warranty you might run into an issue if you have to send it to samsung. If you are bringing it back to where you purchased it, just bring it back. They aren't going to go through all of that. These people are just reps and all that. They should just switch it out.
I just got the replacement today. I'm gonna send the broken phone to them 2maro. U thonk they will charge me a fee if it's rooted? What u think will happen?

I don't think it should matter. I worked at T-Mo for several years and the reps mainly don't know anything about root. As long as you "play dumb", meaning that you deny any type of knowledge, and just say that you got "an update and it restarted and got stuck like that" you should be ok. If they charge you, it will be for $175 but you can fight it off. I've taken away several fees to some customers. Even when they were at fault.

It's not t-mobile who deals with it. It's a third party insurance agency who deals with it. So no you will be one hundred percent fine. I have sent back phones with CM on it. Stock rooted with Knox tripped and so on. Never had an issue. It's going to go in a pile, it will have stock firmware flashed on it to be sold as certified used, or taken for parts. You will most likely not hear anything about it.
OK thanks everyone. I feel better now. Lol. I'm not worried anymore. I just didn't wanna get charged
