As the title says, my SD card just died today. I have a sandisk 8 GB card and it had been working flawlessly and then all of a sudden, it just died. The biggest problem is i have pictures and music on there that I cant get back. the card is not recognized by my vibrant, my laptop, my desktop or my wife's cliq, but my G1 can read it. the problem is when I go to format it through the menu's option, it fails every time. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I have recovery software, but it wont work because the card cant be read. PLEASE HELP!
Same thing happen to me when flashing froyo, I dont know how I manage to fix it, I thinl it was the.stock one, I keep switching roms trying to fix my recovery, another thing I did was add sd /sdcard

is it possible that if i flash the phone with odin and leave the card in it could bring it back to being useful again? when you say you added sd/sdcard, what do you mean? that location is already on my vibrant
Well I lt worked for me, use my external sd for backups, before it wouldnt mount. And yea the location /sdcard/sd

anyone else have any ideas. flashing with odin back to stock and leaving the external sd card in did not do anything
Try the repartion option in odin, keep trying the sd is not dead, mine wouldnt even mount
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
i tried doing the repartition in odin, it brought it back to life again, and then 15 mins later it died again. I was able to pull some stuff off of it but it did in fact die again. i tried to format it to see if that would fix it, but it keeps failing to format every time, and if i delete anything off of the card, as soon as it reloads itself back onto the phone, all of the files are back on there again. Any ideas? I really dont want to have to buy another 8GB card, they are not cheap
8Gb cards are actually pretty cheap.. I think I have like 3 just laying around the house.. Haha

Mount your phone as a disk drive. When windows asks if you want to scan and repair go for it.
That doesn't work your sd card is hosed. Pick up a new one with a higher speed class off of new egg.
Copy everything from the sd to your computer and copy over to the new card.

Well the same thing happened to me last night. SD Card left the party. But, gave what you said and a shot and it worked. Now, going to keep a working copy on the desktop. Plus going to pick up a new card today ( just in case ). Also an excuse to get a bigger card.

Check out the 16GB Class 10 Wintec on NewEgg. I've had mine since I picked up my shift and it's been great. I think it goes for about $25.
My phone started doing this yesterday. Its done it with 7 cards so far. 3 are new.
I went back to work today, on the inland waterways, stuck without sd access for a month. Now clockwork can't mount it half the time.

Thanks, will check it out.
Update: Definitely an internal problem. I thought it was just an error in MIUI but it's showing up in every rom now. I can format all of my cards and mount to flash. Within an hour I get the Damaged SD Card error.

Do the sd cards wiggle around in the concave area it lays in? Before writing a dissertation about my guess of what it might be, I will ask this first.
When it's plugged into the computer, phone and cable, how do you disconnect the phone from the computer?
Does ruu back to 100% stock produce the same results?
Are you overclocked?
Are the cards all the same size and from the same manufacturer?

I've got three wintechs and four sandisks. Fit snug. I always unmount from comp side then unmount from phone side. Only time I mount at all is in recovery, actually.

Edit: sizes range from 2gb to 16gb, and I have formatted all cards just to make sure they were the right file system and not ext2(3/4) reiser... so on.
Well if putting a piece of paper the size of the card on top of the card, then pushing the lock bar down doesn't help then I would take it to a sprint repair center. The paper needs to be thicker than sheet paper. Like one of the cards they have inside magazines for a subscription or maybe a post card. That should help keep the card stationary and better contact with the pins for the SD card. If that doesn't help then I would ruu back to complete stock, format a card in the phone and put some files on it. Nothing that could remotely be associated with roms or rooting or unlocking then find a sprint repair place. Take it there and try to make it corrupt the card in front of the tech. They might take it apart to see if something is loose or broken. If it can't be fixed quickly and easily, they will probably give or order a refurbished. If you are lucky you might get a new one. Don't give them a hard time when you are there or they can make life suck for you.

Yeah, it'll be fun lol. I'm on a boat for a month anyways so I'm screwed.
At least I've got fastboot!
If you need to save or whatever a file, you could just send it as an email attachment to yourself. I don't know if there's such a program as something that makes a virtual drive online. I dunno. I'm just trying to think of ideas to use until you can get it fixed.
How about bluetooth file transfer to a computer or another phone...
Hi i bought a dell streak from someone on CL and didnt notice that this phone is a engineering sample and i've had nothing but problems with it crashed and hangs on the Dell logo till i pull the battery for atleast 3 hours or sometimes i can plug it into a computer with the USB cable and it will boot into 2.2 i've flashed a number of roms but still experience the same issue.
So what's the deal with the engineering sample ? did i buy a POS anyway to save this so it works. Its really random when it breaks i used it last week for 3days no problems but now im stuck again on the dell logo which really sucks since i was at work and can't use this phone at all till it decides to start working again.
What can i do ? I'm assuming i can't return it to dell. Any help would be appriciated.
Go to dells web site it will tell you if the warnaty still good.

I tried but it can't find the service tag on there site.
engineering samples don't carry warranty so no point on calling.
If you are the adventurous type open it up and change the internal SD and see how it goes from there. Can't think of anything else that could be failing.
So is there a certain firmware that i can flash to possibly get it working again if it isnt a hardware problem?
Most possibly caused by a dead internal sd card, open it up and replace it is recommended.

looks like it is the internal SD card that's the problem when i go into the engineer menu it FAILS with a error of cmd/data test: fail so is there any workarounds ? im assuming not if i have to replace the SD slot how do i go about doing that ? any instructions anywhere ?
I saw someone cut out the plastic next to the battery so they would not have to take the phone apart. If I find it I will post it for you. Think it was over at modaco.com

Quick update I just took apart the phone and swapped out the internal card with another 2gb micro i had lying around and was able to factory reset and now the phone is working once again. Lets see if it last's heh anyways thanks for the info
I used http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Dell-Streak-Teardown/3512/1
shows you how to take the phone apart actually it was fairly easy compared to other phones i've taken apart.
glad it worked!!
Good to hear! And thanks for that valuable information.

Hi,
I'm really hoping someone might be able to give me some advice.
I've had my Desire HD for about eight months now, and counting the one I lost about 10 minutes ago, I've gone through a total of ten memory cards.
Each time I get a message saying it's been unexpectedly removed, or that it is blank or damaged. I've tried Sandisk and Samsung cards, all Class 2 / 8GB.
I hardly ever remove the memory card, but when I do I am always careful to unmount it. The same as when I connect it to my PC via USB.
After the 8th memory card died, the Gingerbread update had just been released, and I was hoping it was due to a software issue. However, as expected, my 9th memory card died shortly after. I contacted HTC who sent me ONE replacement SD card, to which I explained that I wanted my phone repaired. Courier picked it up, they said that it was being caused by a software issue and simply done a reset.
I knew it wouldn't work, and low and behold my 10th memory card has just died.
I am now contemplating going to Phones4U and asking for a replacement, as someone else has mentioned in the forum. However, there was one thing I wanted to check with people first.....
I connect my phone to my car stereo via Bluetooth, which I use as a handsfree and to listen to music that is stored on my phone. Now, normally I just turn my car stereo off. How likely is it that this could be causing the card failure? I don't see how, as the memory card isn't physically being removed, but I wanted to get people's thoughts on this before I start pushing Phones4U for a replacement!
I don't think your cards are physically damaged. They just need to be formatted.

I don't think it's my cards that are physically damaged, but it must be a hardware issue with the phone. Each of the memory cards either say it's been removed, or that it's blank or damaged. Some of them I can put into my PC and repair. Some of them worked again after I had formatted them, however 5 out of the 10 would not even be picked up by my PC.
I have now emailed Phones4U, so I shall see where I get (if anywhere) with them.
What HTC firmware are you using? There was an issue with 1.72 that caused symptoms such as yours. That is one of the issues that got the OTA pulled.
I have the phone number for Phones4U's written complaints team, the team that you always get told don't accept incoming calls. Should you need it, just let me know.
Sounds a very similar problem to mine mate........

Hi there s32bauer,
I think i may have seen the same problem, although i have only tried 2 /sdcards and they BOTH work on the PC or lappy afterwards.
See this thread for more on my issue,
Hope you have a little more luck than myself.
I have had some great help off some great people on here at XDA though......Thanks guys...
P.S. Have you been running any custom ROM's? If so, what were they?
i had the same problem when on 1.72, i went through 3 16sdhc cards. i fixed this by rooting and using leedroids gingerbread.
all three cards which were broke i managed to fix and they are now in good use in my wifes wildfire and our galaxy tabs, the 32gb card i now have in my phone has been in there for about 4 months now with no more unexpected removals.
The only other time i had this problem was with my motorola milestone, it also ate cards - but the phone was next to useless as it was sig locked and never updated (got a full refund as flash never arrived in the 9 months i owned the pos).
Gone through 10 memory cards that's absolutely insane!! Even more insane that a OTA can be released that causes it.
I think your owed some replacements if the cards are screwed.

The same has happened to me... I broke around 5 SDcards like that. Problem solved by rooting the phone and Gingerbread !

I've been through quite a lot. The first two died on 1.32 I believe. Then I lost SIX on the 1.72 firmware. Another one once I'd upgraded to Android 2.3, and then the final one the other once I'd received it back from HTC.
The number for Phones4U would be brilliant, thanks!

Hey, thanks for the link. I'll have a look through, although I'm going to continue to push for a brand new replacement I think.
Tried 1.32, then to 1.72, and then Android 2.3. One of them was a custom ROM, but had one die on that one too unfortunately, so I'm quite sure it's just my phone being a dud! lol

Just been looking at the SanDisk warranty on faulty non working micro SD cards - you should be able to get replacements as long as you have proof of purchase.
Maybe spread them out over a few weeks each if you have a few

Any pointers on which type of card yours is? I think it needs to be a sdhc card but dont know what class number it should be. I seem to see that they have different classes.
Or which seller you purchased from??

110 US dollars? you can pick up a working one for about that or just a little more.
I wouldn't touch it, that's for sure. Without an sd card there's not a lot you can do, a new mainboard would cost about $110, and although im sure there are plenmty of skilled electronics engineers that can swap out teh sd card slot, its probably pretty tricky, and we all know how easy it is to accidentally destroy something else when opening them up. There are LOADS of threads that start 'i opened the case to fix X and ended up ripping the volume cable/button cables/gps antenna/and now wifi dopesnt work/touch screen has stopped responding', , even several cases where a repair shop hands teh unit back to teh customer worse than when they took it in to teh shop.
aww so its better to leave .. and my search continues...
TFYI.
