The ridiculous thing about the Arc/Arc S - Xperia Arc General

Hello to you all, once again
I've been an android user since the beggining and i always loved the free part of it. I mean the free development, the free will and the free sharing of it. The arc s is my 3rd android phone and sadly i see that apart from the free development, free will and free sharing, there are people who charge you for "services" that could well be shared. I see the threads of my early phones and they florish but this one it gets stuck, over and over. Its a competitive world, i get it. but i think that here in xda, which is a forum i follow since my earliest and survivour omnia, it was all about sharing knowledge and experience with each other. Anyway, just a thought.

I think the problem with Arc is that there is no easy / free way of unlocking the bootloader for people who have their phone from a carrier. And without unlocked bootloader there are no custom ROMs..

If it costs the devs to unlock our phone ,you can hardly expect them to pay that .
Most of the dev here is free the only thing I ve seen that is been charged for is bl unlocking.
PS. if a stranger stopped and fixed your car for free ,would u offer him a few quid ?
Now image that the stranger is the other side of the world using his computers, internet and free time developing for a phone he may not even use (ie fxp serve all 2011 xperias + some 2010 and I'm sure they don't personally use them all).
In my opinion people have to have some consideration and appreciation. devs use a lot of their resources to help our community and if everyone gave a few quid donation from that bowl of penny's everyone has ,to the person who has helped u
It not a big deal really is it?
Also I am not a dev or anything ,just someone who gives a little to get a lot.

The people who charge for bl unlocking have to buy credits for SE Tool.
If they make it free, they would pay on their own and lose money.

There is reason why our developers are not hacking the bootloader for Sim locked ones. Since Sony has provided us with the option unlock bootloader for sim free devices they don't want to screw up the relationship with Sony developers.

You phone was subsidized by your carrier.
I paid extra for my phone to be SIM-Free, so why should people with cheaper carrier subsidized phones get unlocked bootloaders?

I agree dev should get paid or compinsated for there work. Its the carriers or Sony that has lost the concept here .Putting out a phone that requires us to pay money to use it to its true full extent...as a previous x10 owner I loved the fact that I could flash a new rom once a week if I choose too . After all I did pay to own this device not rent it!!!!

Relocking the bootloader : Phone for Geohot

Hi guys,
I am sure you all know about geohot (http://iphonejtag.blogspot.com/)
I am sure we there was a reliable/safe way to go back to S=ON and a locked bootloader state + warranty, the modding community and thus, the Android community indirectly, would expand like never before. That's one of the reasons behind the huge ass success of the iPhone jailbreak community. Infact, we have got it relatively easy when we compare it to the amount of work it takes them (with every iPhone OS release) to defeat's Apple protection and 'JB' the devise. Since all it takes is a restore to stock F/W to erase all signs of any 'software' jailbreak, they do not loose 'hardware' warranty by just running a custom program on the phone.
I have contacted George over email and requested him to look at the problem we are facing. He has agreed to look into it if we can give him a Nexus One. I mean, a collective $530 is a very small price to pay when it comes to restoring hardware warranty to a army of phones which were only rooted to install more capable programs
What do you guys think? Should we collect donations and send a phone over to George Hotz? There is no guarantee that we will get a solution... but if anyone can approach it from a hardware perspective... it is him.
Do let me know your thoughts... (and please don't mind the various grammatical mistakes... I just woke up and saw Geohot's email... hence posted this asap.)
Regards,
KiD0M4N
I dont think this is a good idea. Geohot is a great iphone dev but he has no experience whatsoever on android or HTC bootloaders. There are much better devs for this type of work.

Just give it some time bro. I bet you someone will find a way. If there is an option to unlock your bootloader through a ui, i dont think it will be THAT hard to manipulate that to relock your bootloader. I mean, there are devs like NCommander that have tackled much harder projects such as reverse engineering the eclair camera drivers for the G1/MT3G.

I am all for giving it time, we need to do something to get the attention of them brainies.
Its kinda sad though... HTC did a wonderful job making it easy to root the devise, but them fugged it all up by a all or nothing warranty statement. It would be fine if they would apply it for obvious mis use cases, but such a blanket statement only hurts the community.
And honestly speaking, it it wasn't for the XDA community, i would not have even thought of getting the Nexus One.
i think if geohot gets an android device he would probably be able to help us re-lock the boot loader, and maybe even more things we did not know about android.
we are a week into the life of the nexus one and you already want to pay for outside help?
give it time... we had the thing rooted before it even came out for christ sakes...

Let's just hope that there will be a perfect 2.3.3 ROM on one day.
Jerpelea and Racht are making good progress now.
There will be one, once the bootloader is cracked
And as for this petition... there is already one about 2.2+ distribution, no luck so far, so I guess they really don't give a damn
I really wish Sony would release a update to 2.2+ , but I don't think they will. I think we will just need to resort to custom Roms instead.

Sony aren't willing to spend the time or money for a budget phone. Still in comparison to apple where you pay top money for a phone and yet the next one (usually out within 6 months to a year) has features yours will never get in the firmware.

Email campaign to HTC support for unsecured bootloaders.

Guys,
All of you owning a HTC Wildfire (Buzz) or any other HTC Android phone, go to the support page and sent the following email:
Dear HTC Support,
As you will not release more updates to the Wildfire and I will not be able to buy a new phone after using the phone for just 9 Months, is there any possibility that I (or even better: the community) can get an unlocked bootloader to install custom roms for the HTC Wildfire?
I do understand that you will try to force people to buy new HTC phones but not everyone can afford a new phone after 12Months and since the hardware is still up to date and running perfectly fine it should be possible to install customized roms to enhance the Wildfire (or any other) experience. I'm totally aware that this would void any warranty and support for the phone but as there is no more updates it doesn't matter anyway.
Wouldn't it make a much more positive company image if you would allow to do so? I will defentively only consider a customizable phone for the next one I buy and I would be very sad if HTC would not be on the list of possibilities.
Hope I can get a positive feedback from you guys and I do hope you understand my side and the rest of all of those freaks out there doing incredible things with your briliant hardware and software!
This would increas HTC popularity for sure and is also a fact for selling more phones than your competitors (SonyEricsson, Motorola).
Kind regards

If my english is not good enough feel free to rewrite the text but keep the same information to make sure the recognize that multiple users are sending these requests.
Maybe this helps to put some pressure on them as we are their customers spend our money to them and try to get the same as the community could do for the Motorola phones.
Unfortunately I'm not yet allowed to add any hyperlinks to the post and therefore the url to the world wide support form of HTC can't be posted by me...*sorry* (Anyone can do a followup post including the link?)
Thanks

Waste of time, if you send it to support or anything.
Support team just bins this kind of things.
ill try even this... sent
There is already a signing compaign started. First raise the number of signs in that and later we can think of complaint letters. First we need to know how many people will support it, so that if decent number of people (like thousands) support we can make a single complaint (of all the people) at a time, which will be more powerful. These individual complaints by people will never be bothered by htc for sure. And moreover these individual complaints gets splitted based on different countries, as each country has its specific support website. And splitting up these compaign processes will affect both of processes.
we can really expect the decent number of signs if everyone properly shares the link. Because while signing one need not create website user id.
link to the signing compaign : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1050222
I think it still is worth doing it.
I do agree that we should concentrate on the list but still just sending a complaint does not cost much and might raise a little of awareness.
If we have these multiple channels of communication we just need to use them and on one of them it might be heard
Even if those different support guys trash it, they might discuss this during a meeting or even during their break and if there are enough people talking about it, the complaints might go to the right person.
I see this here in my company aswell. If customers would complain more about the situation it, would probably have an influence later.
Keep on spreading "awareness" ...
Actually they didn't lock the bootloader accidentally. Its a planned thing to sell their newer wildfire S (which will be the mid range htc android phone). And they will continue to lock every htc android phone. I don't expect they will unlock it even if wildfire S gets outdated. Making others aware of not buying the locked htc phones will have some effect.
Anyhow i agree that it should be worth a try. Having a try will not cost us anything. But most probably, this will be considered as a spam. And i have sent the mail to support this. I used the worldwide htc support website to do this. And why don't we try to learn something, share our ideas, and try to root the wildfire..
Indeed I think it's pointless to send this request to HTC.
It is clearly a corporate strategy to lock their devices and make more turnover by selling new types over shorter periods of time.
It's just about the money and not about the users
Actually they do not really treat it as spam but at least do not answer positively..
.Got 2 answers back from HTC support telling me that they will never allow customers to install custom rom on their phones. But wait what happens if at one time they get massive (hope there are enough freaks/geeks out there) requests to allow it??
Therefore I agree with you but still keep asking doesnt cost anything and you never know what can happen.
In the meantime we definitively should keep trying to root the phone in any available way.

This is simply a response from htc support a question. Do not expect it to be a clever answer. These things are not decided by people who meet these emails. A people who have to answer them do not care about it. Because they have a plan of work that followed, but it is quite clear that it does not include S = off for Wildfire. We just do traffic in the forum of XDA. Nothing more we can do with HTC at the official way!

Actually, even if it is legal, their intentions will not support it. If we can see those "100% legal" in official websites of HTC or SE etc, we can confirm that it is legal.
The point is, we the geeks want it, need it, expect it, hope it to be legal.
How about google delaying the release of honeycomb source code. They intend to restrict the honeycomb to those devices which are manufactured with it.
And if people gets aware of locked botloaders, their market will be affected. Then they will manufacture the devices with root options. But people becoming aware never happens.....

I agree that these things are not decided by people who meet these emails, since all of us got the same replies.
And where are these guys with big brains. Im sure wildfire users with big brains are previously aware of not making the froyo ota update. In that case they will have a pre-rooted device and will not work on the rooting process..
And no updates of unrevoked regarding wildfire. Not sure whether they got the device, working, or not... Who else then......... Is it going to be like this forever.

Business with HTC clip going strong since the update came out for Wildfire 2.2 Who manufactures these devices? If you are so s = off for people using this device will be less customers. Currently the only way is HTC clip - of which make any money, unlike unrevoked, which would make it more for glory than for money. Therefore I think that when willing to root through HTC clip fall, will appear and exploit for Wildfire. A first for low-end phones will also appear on the market in order to draw more money to compensate for the low price.
Another variant of the HTC negligence is simply silly to have received the update to 2.2 and now do not care (or shame them to fix the "error")
Anyway, can not do nothing but constantly picking and pray to the guys with "big brains" to say something about it. And if there is no way for S = off (or are not involved because they are arrogant and they like thousands of people to pray them every day for something) - at least to say it until the price of the phone is relatively good for sale yet ...
I just think everything is money and edification.

What do everyone think.

Xperia X upgrade over z1c.

It may be wrong section to ask. As i was using xperia z1c, i thought it would be better to ask here.
I'm thinking sony's management is full of retarded people. They cry about how they are not making any profit and they take steps like dumb people or think people are dumb or so naive to buy their phone.
Today they have updated the price of xperia x around 50k with sd 650. Xiaomi also has same phone in 10k, i know they have poor quality but sony treats their low end phone in same way no os update.
http://www.sonymobile.com/in/products/phones/xperia-x/
Now my question is that if they are going to release x performance, what will be the price. I think 1 Lakh.
I seriously doubt the existence of sony xperia in future.
Well. Matter of point of view and it is your choice and money.
However - tell me who else would give you code to legally unlock bootloader or cooperates with developers except their own..

yeah! I know that but sd 650 for 50k.
I don't think sony releases phones for people on xda only, and imo xda members include only 25% of sony's sale.
There is no use of unlocking bootloader for common man.
And i think nexus will be better choice this year, if x performance is over 60k.
Not that.
Not everyone is developer nor should be but if software is opened developers can make it better and that saves money for those who are active enough to do some work for their own benefit.
When I see half of my data transfer spent on advertisement and I have no choice to put it on hold - I am bit of pissed off.
That's why I bought factory phone, with no branded ROM, rooted and tuned it.
Money initially spent on device free of crap will return to me later.
There are errors, too. Nobody even dreams that GSM companies will correct them, not until next OS release which may never occurr.

We need help from Original Axon 7 Developers If we want Root and Roms we need to give

We need help from Developers who has worked on the Original (ZTE Axon 7) 5.5 Version. If we want our devices Rooted and Custom Roms we need to give every good developer that works hard for this community, we need to give them something to work for. We need to give them a Bounty if they can suceed in unlocing our bootloader and rooting our ZTE Axon 7 Mini.
Please pledge whatever you can afford even if its $5 the bounty will go to whoever can get our device rooted and unlock our bootloader.
LIST OF PLEDGES - PLEASE POST YOUR PLEDGES
drvsbsm - $20
So we are left to our great developers to make this happen. So place your pledges
I will keep this thread updated with all pledges that the people have made just post your pledge and I will add it to this first post. If you pledge, it will help. Developers have lives and they deserve to be compensated for thier time, we have really good developers and one of them will crack this for us. If someone happens to find a cheap Axon 7 Mini it would most likely help our developers crack our phone so they can work with the device and crack this phone, I know that if we dont get root or an unlocked bootloader this phone was really not worth it in my opinion and I will never buy from ZTE again unless they change thier policy and give us the same rights as they gave the Original Axon 7.

i have no problem with this either...... I have already heard UnjustifiedDev say he was going to receive his mini sometime this week and hopefully it won't be long thereafter. Says he's waiting for his device and N update to get started.
Put me down for $5. I just got my zte Axon 7 mini and really like it. Especially for only paying 199. But I can't believe we don't have twrp, or any roms. But maybe there waiting for nougat which is right around the corner.
According to UnjustifiedDev, Mini's are very hard to get right now and the ZTE development team for it is different than the Axon7 team. I would be happy to add $20 to this bounty, but it looks like we may have to raise the funds just to get a device in his hands so he can have a device to work WITH. Any ideas for this to happen would be greatly appreciated i'm sure, but if he can't get a device, then we are pretty much stuck.
So we have 45 as of now? I believe that Best buy is still selling them for 199.99. Like 215 with tax. I think that is the cheapest you can get right now.
Edit:. Just looked on eBay and thee are a few for 168. And no tax
We need a lot more people participating

i'll make a decent pledge in a few days when i get money. alternatively.. i would temporarily donate my 7 mini if i were 100% guaranteed to get it back in working condition, i like this phone but it still feels so ..empty. if that's in the realm of possibility, let me know!
I pledge $25 to developers to help Root this device & get TWRP.
I purchased this phone this week. I like the phone. The phone is really a good value for what you pay for it. Very well made, quality materials, construction & decent specs for the price.
Very disappointed to find out that there is no TWRP Recovery & No Root for ZTE Axon 7 Mini (B2017G).
Put me down for $10 also.
got my money up, put me down for $40!! so worth it.
This is looking really good!!! If you know a friend who is a dveloper and has worked onZTE devices before that might be a good start.
140 total
Many small numbers make one big
I'll Put down $10
Shoot, I'll do $20
You can get the axon 7 mini for 140 off swappa. There is 2 listing right now for 155, But i'm sure you can negotiate 140. Then send the phone to the dev. Looks like there is enough pledged for that now.
I´ll put 5 bucks, i dont have a job right now, but want root
