Ever since i got the Windows 8 Developer Preview, i have noticed that my screen will randomly flash black for a split second every once and a while. Also sometimes my whole computer will freeze, then it will beep loudly, then it shows the search bar, and the date box. After a few seconds of showing that, it goes back to normal and says the driver has stopped and recovered. Anyone else experiencing this?

Also having this problem but my machine does not recovery, has been happening since DP and now with the RTM screen flashes and eventually completely crashes my system. Lenovo Ideacentre B500 Pentium Core2Duo Nvidia Gefore GT 300 series. 4Gig Ram.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as it is unusable and would love to make it the primary operating system as at the moment Im dualbooting with windows 7.

sounds like your graphics drivers are crashing, try updated drivers, you are using Release preview and not the outdated developer preview joeb?

I have use Developer Preview, Release Preview and now the RTM. All have given me the same problem, ie crashinf my PC, in RTM it was giving me the flashing screen and eventually crashing. I have updated my graphics card Geforce GT 240m to Driver version 308.82, it fixed the issue with the flashing sreen within apps but unfortunatly my pc still eventaully grinds to a hlt and crashes/locks up forcing me to do a hard restart.

Anyone else having problem with Zenonia? Every time I try to run it, it goes to just a black screen. If I reboot and then open it, it goes to the splash screen with music but nothing else happens. Close it and try to open it again and it goes back to just black.
Only thing I can think of is that I am running Core v1 with Z4. I uninstalled Z4 and went to the regular Core, still no dice. Uninstalled and reinstalled the actual app many times also.
I just want to see if anyone else is having this problem before I try switching Kernels or roms altogether. I have zero problems running Fusion 1.1 with Core v1 Z4 so I really don't want to change it out entirely just for the game.

I have a problem with the Play Store on my Nexus 7 what is bugging me since I got the device and that I never experienced on any other Android device I own(ed). This problem has been present from the beginning with any version of Android (got the Nexus 7 with 4.2.1 and got the 4.2.2. update quickly) and Play Store. Even the brand new 4.0 version that has been rolled out just yesterday (the bright one with the new tile design) showns this error.
The problem is this: in 3 of 4 cases when I hold my device in portrait mode and start play store and update an app, the screen constantly "flashes" every second while downloading, it´s that graphical "zoom in" effect that you get when you open an app. The problem is that I can´t leave this screen with the "back" button, it simply doesn´t work and the page keeps on flickering and showing that strange effect. Only the "home" button helps. After downlaoding and installing the update, everything woks fine.
What I already tried to get rid of the problem (none of them did help, though..):
- deleted cache and data from paly store, uninstalled update of play store, so Android reinstalled updates
- tried new version 4.0 of play store
- deleted, rebooted and reinstalled gmail account on Nexus 7
Anyone experienced this glitch? Any hints on how to solve this?

Try stopping Downloads and Download Manager in Apps > All and clearing cache and data for them. Then reboot and try Play again.
My nexus been doing the same thing since new but in landscape mode only, annoying, but never bothered me too much. I just try to remember to keep portrait mode while updating.

mine does same thing, portrait or landscape. every time the download pct increases, causes flash on right-side text. also did in v.3 of store.

I've been playing with roms and kernels lately, settling on Buttered Grouper 4.2.2 with Franco kernel r65. Just noticed the other day that Play Store flickering is gone. Coincidence?

This has been happening since I got the Nexus on release day. Thought it was normal behavior LOL. Completely stock -> Stock 4.3 ROM rooted/M-Kernel a61.

Wow, it´s still present on the NEW Nexus 7 ? Unbelievable, maybe time to jump off the Nexus bandwagon ... most people think it´s a huge advantage to have a nexus and always the newest android version, but to me it´s more and more a disadvantage. When 4.3 came out half of my apps stopped working, and i had to wait several days and even weeks (heck, some are STILL not compatible with 4.3) to use them again...
Hi guys i got some freezing issues, anyone got an idea what could it be? i'm totally new to Android/tablets, so other then this info, i don't know what else to say, or explain the issue better, it just freezing for like 5 sec, and after it works normal, its random freezing. I hope anyone can help me, thanks.
Is it when you update or install apps?
This is normal, the OS can freeze for a few seconds during write operations.

What do you mean by normal it doesent happpen during instal, its random during surfing for example not conncted to installation imho.

No overclock at all, Kernel - 3.4.0-g9e52a21
Build number JSS15R all stock here. No custom ROM's..
I experience the same BS on an all stock WIFI model (2013.06 date code). Thought it was JB 4.3 teething pain but my Note 3 running 4.3 doesn't do it. Have mainly noticed it playing Great Big War Game where it'll randomly freeze the whole tablet once per launch for about 10 secs where nothing responds (show touch, home, switch task, etc.) then it'll either return to normal or prompt with dialog to wait or close. Have also had it happen in Modern Combat 3 along with the random app close that, again, doesn't affect Note 3. Haven't seen newer apps affected so perhaps it's a software issue and is fixable but it's irritating nevertheless considering it's a Nexus device and after correcting the touch issues with ts10 firmware update. Going to try reflashing the stock image to see if it fixes it otherwise looking forward to dumping this Asus for a Note 10.1 2014 LTE. My Note 10.1 2013 and Note 2 have been 100% solid with never a crash, hang or touch issues.
I had freezing problems when i was trying out the TS20 fix. TS10 seems to yield erratic behaviour randomly after each reboot.
Ever snce i've been testing the ones between TS10 and TS20. TS16 works better for me than TS18 - just being more responsive but both has no reboot issues. Am testing TS14 now and it seems better than TS16 but i needed more time to run it. None of the 14,16 and 18 has given me any kind of freeze after 24hrs of testing on multi-touch intensive apps.
You might wanna give 16 a try... i will be posting a more detailed update in sfhub's thread when i'm done with TS14 and TS12 testing.

However, I have recently tried to uninstall all apps (backing up with titanium backup) and installing back in bunches. With only the apps/games I use daily, the issue appears to have subsided, and I am trying to slowly bring apps back to see what the issue is.
Original post for consolidation purposes:
When it happens: Touch intensive Games (drastic, MMOJ, Dumb Ways) appears to be when the 3D GPU is NOT in use, netflix, when paused for a short while.
What happens:
1. Screen does not update display appears frozen
2. No response from nav bar icons
3. Power, volume buttons give no response.
4. If audio was playing right before it froze, it will keep playing as if nothing wrong.
5. If I hit the power button or the nav button then let it sit for a few minutes, suddenly it will react to every press I did in quick motion and go back to normal.
5a. I had show touches enabled, which showed a random number of the frozen touches working in quick succession when it "unfroze"
6. Sometimes requires a hard restart with no response.
When it started: Right before the Q update starting rolling out, did not have issues out of the box.
Purchase date and location: Right around the time of launch from best buy, 32 GB 2013 version
Troubleshooting steps: Safe mode (doesn't appear as often), full factory restore to the Q image when the R image started rolling out. Issues were gone for a short timeframe, then returned
Config information: Stock, latest firmware version, rooted via TWRP (latest version installed), and SU.
Observation: Appears to occur in select situations, and I believe I always have a GMAIL notification right when it un-freezes.
Let me know what you think and if it should be merged with a different topic, didn't see anything about it un-freezing when it was frozen or audio still playing.

The fix from the thread above helps with many touchscreen issues including freezes.
At least it helped with mine. I was experiencing freezes and so called "sticky touches" (like when you short tap on something and the device interprets it as a tap and hold).
My device came with pre-Q and went through three OTA updates. After reflashing with factory R image minus wiping data (remove -w from flash-all.bat file) and with ts10 all appear to be better so far. Modern Combat 3 still randomly closes but it could be Gameloft's crappy coding. Need to run it for a few more days to confirm but reflashing factory R image with ts10 offer the best experience so far.
Mine does too now in addition to the already random reboot. The freezing happens when I try to input text on the keyboard.

I do have a few Magisk modules like deep buffer remove and Youtube vanced (ad free screen off play), also Viper4 android. It was happening to me too. When you click the power button to lock it dims the screen then flashes on for a second and then turns back off right? (Sorry the video you posted isn't playing for me) it was doing that after the update to 8.1 almost every single time I locked the screen but was fixed in the most recent update the other day. Haven't had that issue occur since the latest update. On version OPM1.180104.141

Okay thanks! I'll have to flash the new update
Hey trying to flash the new update from the first public release of 8.1 to the newest and it said it failed before it even progresses. What should I do?
This doesn't make any sense. Computer was starting to get slow and have odd problems (chrome suddenly stopped working, random crashes, package installers quit working, and the title of this post.) I wiped my HDD clean and started fresh which fixed every other problem except Logitech gaming software. I have a G920 wheel that doesn't work unless I have that software installed. Now, I can install it, but I can't open it. Click on the program and it acts like I didn't click on it. Nothing happens. Sometimes, it will open (10 minutes or so) but immediately say it isn't responding. Any ideas? I'm totally lost. I have tried different versions of the program from 2015 on, but nothing gets the job done. I'll post a screenshot of my system info so you people know what I have. Thanks!
