I did some recording, of nothing in particular, just around the house and after I finished I went to play it, and after about 5 minutes I assume it must of frozen or something as it was still on that loading screen...
Another faiure by htc -_- , has anyone had the same problems and/or found solutions?
Thanks
My HD2 has no problems as you're describing, so your post title is completely misleading.
However, have you tweaked the recording settings? Are you storing the footage on your Micro SD? What speed is it?
We need more info to try to help you

Yeah I am saving it to memory card, but Im not sure what speed it is, theres a 2 with a circle round it, does that help?
thanks for the response
That's means it's a class 2 card, which is slow, trying changing where it stores to say like the internal memory and see if the problem persists. If it doesn't, then buy yourself a class 4 or 6 micro SD card.

Hopefully amazon will do a full return, do they sell them as class 2/4/6 or is it just random?

I just made a video of 4:45 and it played back instantly. Took about a second on the loading screen.
Do us a favour - stop finding faults and then posting them and instantly claiming a fail on the part of HTC. You need to investigate issues a little more before start complaining. How about starting with the attitude that there may be something wrong, rather than the attitude that there is something wrong.
I am using a 16GB Class 2 SanDisk card, and saving vid directly to the card, so unless your card is faulty, I can't see it being that.
As johncmolyneux stated it's probably just your sd card is screwed, you could try just reformatting and see if that helps. If you decide to buy a new SD card, they will clearly state their speed, whether it be class 2, 4 or 6. Obviously the faster you go the more you'll pay.

Yeah maybe I'll try formatting, if not I guess I'll have to return it
I have tried formatting it, yet t still cant seem to play even 13 seconds worth of video. I switched the save locations to the device, still nothing.
I do however have a hunch, there is 1 video that I recorded that I can play on there, and its one I took the night I got the phone, before switching my settings and installing extra modes from damien123_666, so maybe the settings are too high quality and the phone is strugging with them? Maybe when I update the rom it will be more able to cope with higher quality videos
thoughts?

If you can bear it without too much hassle, do a hard reset and see if the problem persists. It sounds like you could be on the right track, but I'm sure there's a lot of people who have done the camera tweaks. Maybe ask in the thread in question to see if anyone has noticed this problem.

Well Im gonna flash a custom rom today, so Ill see if that makes a difference
Update: Installed XannyTechs Pandora rom today, camera now running great again, can play back and all is swell
Apart from the now faint pink mark is still there
HD is cool, but makes me mad. I know the thread about SD card read/write theory and it has me searching for a Sandisk 16 or 32g SDHC in nothing less than class 6
My 16gb class two rights at class 6 for write speed and i have smooth video.. just not best quality as i thouht with the camera.. i know my 4gb class2 writes at a class 2 and my 8 gb writes at a class 2.. not sure why..

Yeah, the video bugs me too, causes the audio to get out of sync as well. The WVGA video looks pretty good though. I just wish the sound wasn't such a crappy low bitrate on all the video modes. Looks pretty good but sounds as crappy as my treo 700p.
Back to topic please.............
I know that not all kernels work the same on diff roms. I can't seam to get my current kernel (not currently updated) to flash to my current rom, and i can't get the google.code kernel for wired tether to flash over either. Without trying all the kernels on various roms to try and get a video to record without freezing in middle while still playing sound, and to have sound end while vid is still playing, I'm sure my SD card that is almost used up has some to do with it. I know I need a certain compression ratio for space available on cord, and this phone is sucking up space on card like crazy.

please delete thread. i wasn't complaining about 30fps, and if anyone would have clicked the link they would see the 3-5 second constant freezing while sound played, and then sound ends about 8 seconds before video ended. it is only a 45 second video. wasn't sure if it was write/read compression ratio compared to space avail on card. no one here conformed/denied or even had an input about it.

If you have a question, it is your duty to properly express it. We are not mind readers.
Here is how I would have worded it:
Thread Title: Video Capture Freezing and Sound Issues
Thread contents: Hi, I took a video recently and I am having some issues that in searching I have not found anyone to report. The video is freezing and the sound isn't recording the whole way through. Has anyone else seen this? Any ideas as to what could cause this?
Then I would have talked about if it happened on other videos or just this one. I would have given any details such as stock, rooted, which rom, or which update I'm running. I would have mentioned if I had changed anything recently or if the phone had been behaving like this since I had owned it. I would have mentioned if I had tried rebooting or any other basic troubleshooting.
That's what I would have done. Unless you compose a meaningful message, none of us here can guess what you're trying to communicate. When your post is nonsense, you'll get nonsense in response.

Is anyone else getting a recording failed error while taking HD video. Sometimes it happens after a few seconds or up to a few minutes or not at all. I am stock rooted with the latest update and drm removed. I don't think it has anything to do with this sine on the sprint forums complete stock users expierence the same thing. Does anyone know how t fix this?

Not a prob. Let me know how it works out for ya.
I have not modified my phone in any way, and I have had this happen a few times as well on highest resolution videos.
Starts camera just fine.. then about 15 seconds into recording it says, "Warning, recording failed."
I would say maybe 2-3 times has this happened to me so far, and I have recorded dozens of videos, so it is a once in awhile thing. Still a bit annoying though.

Actually yes, I filmed a ho-ho-rendous (yes from the sprint ad) christmas light display in my neighbor hood. Worked fine.
I used to have this happen to me only when I was on a custom rom.So I Formated my card which was a pain cause I had to backup 14gb but it has worked for me.No more record failed message.

Interesting, I may have to give that a try. I just tried four tests on stock Froyo (DK28), which I know isn't final, but I was hoping this issue would be fixed. On two of my tests, I recorded for longer than I ever have on the highest res (7 minutes and 8 minutes), I stopped both those recordings manually. My other two tests failed around 25 seconds and 35 seconds. So it's still hit-or-miss for me. I think backing up and reformatting the SD card is next.
I have this problem as well. I also tried reformatting my sd card in an attempt to cure my Epic of this disease to no avail. Anyone else have any suggestions? Or can it be the rom I'm using (Midnight 2.5)?
I tried reformatting as well. It seemed to work for a while but I'm getting the error again. Don't think it's the ROM, it's happening to me on stock Froyo the same as it happened on stock Eclair

Happens to me once in a while as well on stock 2.1
The problem is that the sd card isn't fast enough for reliable hd recording. If you lower quality it will work perfectly. If you reformat sd it will work in hd for a while. If you get a faster sdcard, you'll be set as well. Be sure to read speed test reviews and not just go by the speedclass claimed by the manufacturer. A lot are fast until they get some data then slow down significantly.

Another thing i notice is that with 2.1, the epic records in 3gp and with 2.2.1, it records in mp4, i believe. Can anyone confirm this?
I agree with the card too slow opinion. I did a side by side at the same time and resolution with the evo and epic. The epic always choked and the file wad corrupt. If I did short tests, it worked mostly. During playback and looking at the specifics with videospec, the evo compressed more and it's quality showed it, but it never stopped recording. Changing to a different brand card did not really fix anything.
This is also another reason why I dislike the epic. A second reason, kind of loosely relating to this topic, I don't like the epic with high quality audio recording problems. It studders and skips. The evo was amazing sounding and zero problems.
I'm giving the evo shift some SERIOUS thought right now. I am VERY tempted to go get one tomorrow morning before work.
The 16GB card that comes with the Samsung is only a class 2. It's not capable of keeping up with the recording. Get a class 4 or higher. The video will fail at random times due to varying bit rates of the scene that is being recorded. I bought a class 4, and so far haven't had any issues with the "recording failed". Although, I haven't used it enough since I got the card to be 100% sure.
What is the highest class our epics can use. I saw a class 10 but I read somewhere that the epic can run up to a class 6. Anybody know? Thanks

I've been getting a lag in my video's filmed at 720p quality from my Desire HD
Youtube video of test footage watch?v=x_OLIbLkUWk
Just as it hits 0:13 there is lag which is native on the phone video aswell.
I've filmed quite a bit since them and do get these laggy intervals when filming at 720p quality.
Am I seriously just going to have to accept defeat and film at 800x480?
Any known fixes?

I hope not. I recently got myself a brand new DHD, and can confirm i am experiencing the same issues when recording video -LAG.
I have no idea what the issue could be, I’m thinking maybe the mmc card could be the issue if its only 2x, i'd imagine 720p recoding will require higher speed mmc cards – im using the one which came with the mobile.
lower class of micro sd card perhaps?
With 1.5 GB of RAM, you'd think the DHD would be able to cache a whole lot more than 13 seconds of 720p 3GP video...
I don't remember where, but this has been discussed before, and they didn't think it was the memorycard that was the root of the problem.
To be honest i havent experience lag of any kind when videoing at 720p! Maybe a background task took some resources at the same time! Just a thought.

Have you installed Visionary? I experienced the same thing and when I removed it, the lag was gone. Now I have 'USB debugging' disabled and no lag.
I have a class 10 32gb card which probably isn't causing the problem. My phones not rooted, haven't installed visionary. Plus this occurred when my DHD was vanilla.

My Desire Z sometimes lag in 720p recording too.
I noticed that refocusing when recording cause the lag, but it still lags sometimes even I didn't touch anything.
are you running a live wallpaper, cause in tests i have done running a live wallpaper in the background have made my desire hd lag a lot.

it's like 10~20second per lag.

Hi, I experienced the same thing : Yahoo mail was runnning background
I also experience lag. Someone needs to inform HTC imo.
i have a working fix besides the 32k cluster format, which simply improves the sd card performance
i simply go to free advanced and i hit end all tasks (the quick version) before launching the camera
it works everytime and if i dont't apply it my film lags, its clearly a multi tasking issue something running in the background causing it
but try my method it works
i tried your solution hamdir and it actually does work! I'l test it some more tomorrow because right now its too cloudy and dark outside which isnt optimal conditions for recording with this phone.
edit: the sun came out so i took another clip. no lag
i think its a certain app that may be causing this. is there a way we can pinpoint exactly which one?
i doubt its one app, i don't know if maybe its htc sense and its sync settings or any app that runs in the background like messengers, either way i can't be bothered looking for it the solution is working and very easy
hopefully gingerbread will eventually solve it, since it has a feature that cleans applications footprint
i just noticed my solution was added to the compilation of DHD issues thread i will also mention it in the camera guide i'm currently preparing

Will a class 10 speed the phone up? at moment have a class 4
Thanks

From what I've read class 10 cards are not faster (in fact sometimes even slower) than class 4s. Class 10 cards would allow better writing of large files such as HD videos but for small back and forth read/writes its the class 4 that actually seems to work more efficiently.
There's some very detailed information on this somewhere on XDA but I can't give you the link right now. Do a search on MicroSd cards and see what comes back. Basically though I'd save your money if I were you because you probably wont see any marked improvement in speeds by shelling out for an expensive class 10!
Actually I've found it. Read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1150369

i don't have that problem or any other problem for that matter with la4 for about a month now. i am rooted with cf root kernel. perhaps some applications that you have installed caused this problem. since my galaxy s, i have experienced those after installing some application. you have to be observant after installing an application so you can identify which one causes a problem.
I hv no problem with LA4 at all..i hope my note can be good to me until i got the ics haha
Don't know if this is the right thread to post on, but my brand new unlocked Note is acting up at times.
It keeps on giving me a message that my SIM card had been removed n to reboot the phone, for no apparent reason. Works fine when I restart the phone for a little while. Initially I thought it was something too do with my Sim card so had that replaced, but it still happens pretty much on a daily basis and I can't seem to understand why. Any ideas / suggestions guys?
I had usb issues after upgrading to LA4 but i switched over to RocketRom v22 and the problem went away.
Basically when transferring files to my Note the USB would lose the connection or stop and restart ..
