Is anyone else getting a recording failed error while taking HD video. Sometimes it happens after a few seconds or up to a few minutes or not at all. I am stock rooted with the latest update and drm removed. I don't think it has anything to do with this sine on the sprint forums complete stock users expierence the same thing. Does anyone know how t fix this?
Corrupt file system on the SD card? Try backing up all your files and then reformatting the card and try again.

Ok, I will try that in a few minutes since it says it has to backup 9.21gb

THANKS. It seems to have done the trick but not 100% sure yet as sometimes before i reformatted, it would work perfectly but it hasn't failed thus far.

Still going ok for you? I have this same problem and will try reformatting the card if it's still working for you.

Not a prob. Let me know how it works out for ya.
I have not modified my phone in any way, and I have had this happen a few times as well on highest resolution videos.
Starts camera just fine.. then about 15 seconds into recording it says, "Warning, recording failed."
I would say maybe 2-3 times has this happened to me so far, and I have recorded dozens of videos, so it is a once in awhile thing. Still a bit annoying though.
Anyone try video recording at highest res on Froyo DK28 yet?

Actually yes, I filmed a ho-ho-rendous (yes from the sprint ad) christmas light display in my neighbor hood. Worked fine.
I used to have this happen to me only when I was on a custom rom.So I Formated my card which was a pain cause I had to backup 14gb but it has worked for me.No more record failed message.

Interesting, I may have to give that a try. I just tried four tests on stock Froyo (DK28), which I know isn't final, but I was hoping this issue would be fixed. On two of my tests, I recorded for longer than I ever have on the highest res (7 minutes and 8 minutes), I stopped both those recordings manually. My other two tests failed around 25 seconds and 35 seconds. So it's still hit-or-miss for me. I think backing up and reformatting the SD card is next.
I have this problem as well. I also tried reformatting my sd card in an attempt to cure my Epic of this disease to no avail. Anyone else have any suggestions? Or can it be the rom I'm using (Midnight 2.5)?
I tried reformatting as well. It seemed to work for a while but I'm getting the error again. Don't think it's the ROM, it's happening to me on stock Froyo the same as it happened on stock Eclair

Happens to me once in a while as well on stock 2.1
The problem is that the sd card isn't fast enough for reliable hd recording. If you lower quality it will work perfectly. If you reformat sd it will work in hd for a while. If you get a faster sdcard, you'll be set as well. Be sure to read speed test reviews and not just go by the speedclass claimed by the manufacturer. A lot are fast until they get some data then slow down significantly.

Another thing i notice is that with 2.1, the epic records in 3gp and with 2.2.1, it records in mp4, i believe. Can anyone confirm this?
I agree with the card too slow opinion. I did a side by side at the same time and resolution with the evo and epic. The epic always choked and the file wad corrupt. If I did short tests, it worked mostly. During playback and looking at the specifics with videospec, the evo compressed more and it's quality showed it, but it never stopped recording. Changing to a different brand card did not really fix anything.
This is also another reason why I dislike the epic. A second reason, kind of loosely relating to this topic, I don't like the epic with high quality audio recording problems. It studders and skips. The evo was amazing sounding and zero problems.
I'm giving the evo shift some SERIOUS thought right now. I am VERY tempted to go get one tomorrow morning before work.
The 16GB card that comes with the Samsung is only a class 2. It's not capable of keeping up with the recording. Get a class 4 or higher. The video will fail at random times due to varying bit rates of the scene that is being recorded. I bought a class 4, and so far haven't had any issues with the "recording failed". Although, I haven't used it enough since I got the card to be 100% sure.
What is the highest class our epics can use. I saw a class 10 but I read somewhere that the epic can run up to a class 6. Anybody know? Thanks

How the hell do you get rid of the pixelization ( Or however you spell it ). It is driving me mad just installed qteks rom and everything is perfect butt he pixelization is driving me mad!
I have had the same problem it only happens when the screen times out or you turn off the display it happends with the Touchflov3, Champion V2,qteks rom. If you reboot its ok till the screen is shut off again. any ideas?
Yea I thought there might be some easy fix but after some reading it seems that there isn't! I am definitely not going to be turning the phone off and on every time it happens to shut the screen off. I did try a lot of roms in the meantime. Unfortunately evil and Jacxhero just sit there and loop at the "Hero" starting screen and fatla1ty doesn't have the screen problem but the rom is incredibly slow! Qteks was nice and fast but as stated before the screen problems are too much, I guess I might wait a little while until something not so buggy comes out. Unless some one knows of something better or some other rom's that I haven't tried..... or how to fix the looping problem on evil's rom and Jacxhero? - Thanks JinX

For the boot loop to go away, you need to have a clean, freshly partitioned SD card. I had the same problem, then I reformatted my memory card. Removed the ext3 and linux swap and reformatted it all to fat32. From there I repartitioned the memory card. As for the pixelation, I noticed that it happens on slow SD cards or low quality ones. I tried Qteks hero with the class 2 that came with the mytouch and got the pixelation. I then tried it with a class 6 8 gig that I had and the problem went away. Not sure about class 4. I have one and am going to try it today. Will get back to you on that. I am not 100% sure this is the case, but it is what happened with me, as far as pixelation goes.
i have a class 2 and never get those problems

I tried with the scandisk 4gb and a class 4 pny 4gb
I've seen the pixelation with a class 6 4gb, and a class 4 8gb.
I have read some speculation that it has something to do with swap?
Right now I am running Qtek with compcache only, and do not have pixelation.
When I run Qtek with linux swap, I get the pixelation.
I was starting to suspect roms ported from the Dream boards, but I just flashed JACxHero 1.4 and no pixelation.
I did some recording, of nothing in particular, just around the house and after I finished I went to play it, and after about 5 minutes I assume it must of frozen or something as it was still on that loading screen...

My HD2 has no problems as you're describing, so your post title is completely misleading.
However, have you tweaked the recording settings? Are you storing the footage on your Micro SD? What speed is it?
We need more info to try to help you

Yeah I am saving it to memory card, but Im not sure what speed it is, theres a 2 with a circle round it, does that help?
thanks for the response
That's means it's a class 2 card, which is slow, trying changing where it stores to say like the internal memory and see if the problem persists. If it doesn't, then buy yourself a class 4 or 6 micro SD card.

I just made a video of 4:45 and it played back instantly. Took about a second on the loading screen.
Do us a favour - stop finding faults and then posting them and instantly claiming a fail on the part of HTC. You need to investigate issues a little more before start complaining. How about starting with the attitude that there may be something wrong, rather than the attitude that there is something wrong.
I am using a 16GB Class 2 SanDisk card, and saving vid directly to the card, so unless your card is faulty, I can't see it being that.
As johncmolyneux stated it's probably just your sd card is screwed, you could try just reformatting and see if that helps. If you decide to buy a new SD card, they will clearly state their speed, whether it be class 2, 4 or 6. Obviously the faster you go the more you'll pay.

Yeah maybe I'll try formatting, if not I guess I'll have to return it
I have tried formatting it, yet t still cant seem to play even 13 seconds worth of video. I switched the save locations to the device, still nothing.
I do however have a hunch, there is 1 video that I recorded that I can play on there, and its one I took the night I got the phone, before switching my settings and installing extra modes from damien123_666, so maybe the settings are too high quality and the phone is strugging with them? Maybe when I update the rom it will be more able to cope with higher quality videos
thoughts?

If you can bear it without too much hassle, do a hard reset and see if the problem persists. It sounds like you could be on the right track, but I'm sure there's a lot of people who have done the camera tweaks. Maybe ask in the thread in question to see if anyone has noticed this problem.

HTC EVO 4G Camcorder Dropping frames
I've had the problem for over a year. Been to the Sprint store 5 times had hard resets done wiping my phone and no fix. They replaced twice and both new phones do the same thing. Went to the store again today because i'm due an upgrade and they will not do anything but give me another same phone unless I want to get the NEW HTC LTE that would cost $200. They told me that is the only way to fix it. That sounds like crap that I have to pay and switch to another phone to fix the issue.
I can't remember where I read this, but it said to fix this or at least make it better you need to change your read/write speed for your sd card. Haven't tried this myself though, because I don't use the camcorder.

I am using nitrous 1.55 with ca1ne's nitrous kernel. I just ran a few test videos on my own phone. At 128kb r/w under 30 seconds no problem over 30 seconds a little jittery.
After changing r/w speed same thing. I'm sorry that this didn't help out. I was just relaying something I had read, and never tested b/c I don't use the camcorder on my evo. Hope you get this fixed.

Move the readahead speed to 512kb, if it still lags, use 1024kb.. also, it could be the CPU speeds and gov. that's slowing making the video lag.
Hi guys
Installed the stock german LA4 a couple of weeks ago and it worked just fine for a week, but now the last 5 days it has been freezing daily no buttons working the screen stays on, so the only thing i can do is pull the battery out and restart..
sometimes it seems to work fine but when you try to make a call with full service it just breaks before it starts to ring, and again i have to restart..
yesterday when i was shooting some stupid videos i noticed that the voice is beeing playbacked with a half a second delay and the movie lags all the way trough..
anyone got the same issues? or solutions?
I have noticed that it was mega fast at the start now it can be a bit skuggish im gonna re flash and see if that solves things weird. . I have also bought a class 10 memory card hopjng that speeds my phone up to

Will a class 10 speed the phone up? at moment have a class 4
Thanks

From what I've read class 10 cards are not faster (in fact sometimes even slower) than class 4s. Class 10 cards would allow better writing of large files such as HD videos but for small back and forth read/writes its the class 4 that actually seems to work more efficiently.
There's some very detailed information on this somewhere on XDA but I can't give you the link right now. Do a search on MicroSd cards and see what comes back. Basically though I'd save your money if I were you because you probably wont see any marked improvement in speeds by shelling out for an expensive class 10!
Actually I've found it. Read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1150369
It explains in detail the difference I've mentioned...

i don't have that problem or any other problem for that matter with la4 for about a month now. i am rooted with cf root kernel. perhaps some applications that you have installed caused this problem. since my galaxy s, i have experienced those after installing some application. you have to be observant after installing an application so you can identify which one causes a problem.
I hv no problem with LA4 at all..i hope my note can be good to me until i got the ics haha

Obviously it lost the audio/video sync..

I start to think it's a hardware problem..
I'm having exactly the same problem... not really sure why though, but it happened on CM7 and Stock ROM, I also tried to record on the microSD and the internal memory (both options) with the same results... I'm hoping this is not a hardware problem, otherwise I'll have to sell my phone. I use it to record all kind of stuff...
Hope someone can help us here!
Thank you!
Judging by the time (10 minutes) and size (1 GB), I'm guessing the problem lies with the SD card being too slow. Try using a higher class SD card and defragmenting it first. From my experience, fragmentation kills SD card performance and defragmenting it makes a lot of difference for read/write speed.
Did anyone find a solution to this?
cheers,
