I have a nook that currently has the Honeycomb v4 ROM running on eMMc...and for what it is I've been pretty happy with it. However, I've hoped that fairly soon there would be a full-fledged working Honeycomb version for the Nook since Xoom is out, etc...but I'm a little concerned that it seems all Honeycomb versions and development seems to have stalled, if not died. I haven't seen anything new in a long time.
Maybe we're still waiting for the AOSP to be released, but I would like to eventually have Flash and anything else that would run by default on a full-fledged Android 3 tablet, if the genius developers would grace us all with such a ROM. In a worst case, I don't want to be orphaned with what I have now and have to give up and drop back to the latest Nook 1.2 version if I can avoid it.
So, does anyone have any news about Android 3 on the Nook---is anyone still working toward this---if so/when?
Also, I'm curious about what other ROM's may be out there that are as good as the recent 1.2 update...have Flash, etc...if any. I've looked at the 4/29 Phiremod 6.2/ CM 7.0.2 which sounds pretty slick, so I'd appreciate any comments about it and how it looks or compares to the Honeycomb version, etc. I'm up for any suggestions.

Devs can't do anything with honeycomb till the Source is Released, and google has not stated when that will be
Its like this:
-Google hasn't released Honeycomb source, and said they won't until it is integrated with the cellphone branch (which will be a new version - Ice Cream Sandwich)
-The CM7 developers can't work on a Android OS without a source code to modify for the Nook Color
-Much work was done on CM7 (Gingerbread) to give it some of the best parts of Honeycomb- softkeys on the status bar
-Once the source for a tablet Android OS is released the large community of the Nook Color almost guarantees a port, as much work has been done to leave that option open
-We will know a better timeline after this:

I was in the same boat so I installed Phiremod (CM7 with a cool theme) which is awesome.
The thing I originally didn't like about CM7 compared to Honeycomb was the location of the soft back button. HC made much more sense because it was designed for tablets without buttons. CM7 now includes "tablet tweaks" which is switched on by default. This tweaks move the status bar to the bottom and add good soft buttons on the left side of the bottom (by default...they can be moved around). The tweaks along with Flash support and the fact that Google announced it will be a while before HC is added to AOSP tipped the scale to CM7 for me.
Pros of Honeycomb:
New interface that is more like a PC than a phone (contrary to Steve Job's "tablets are post-PC devices" lol)
Great email client and widget
Awesome native browser
Everybody thinks you are cool because you have HC running on an eReader (women were just throwing themselves at me so my wife made me switch lol)
Pros of CM7
99.9% of everything works. Most problems with HC for the Nook were problems that HC has on other devices but they are still problems. Gingerbread is much more mature.
Bluetooth is working. People say it only works for short distances. I never wander too far from my keyboard so I am not sure.
Tablet tweaks allow most of the cool UI functionality that is included with honeycomb.
I am not sure if HC v4 includes hardware acceleration but Flash and other videos work better on CM7.
I recommend using both. Flash CM7 to your primary partition and if you want to use Honeycomb, set up dual boot and flash HC to your second partition or run HC from an SD card.
I also recommend trying the Stock 1.2 ROM. You won't be happy with it after using honeycomb and CM7 but it is worth a look because it is quite nice for somebody with no technical knowledge like my mother.
Activity is definitely picking up on the new port. I would keep an eye on the post and I'm betting within a couple of days, it will be fairly stable and worth flashing.

google said that ice cream sandwich will be available to gingerbread devices... x8 runs gingerbread (although unofficially), so i don't see why not. the developers just need to get behind it.

I have a faster/better way to get Ice Cream Sandwich on our X8 device, simply go buy one Ice Cream Sandwich, eat part of them if you want, but... save a little to your device! Just put a little on top of your TouchScreen and voila! Ice Cream Sandwich on X8

Out of new, cute functions - unlocking screen with face recognition (requires front cam, but still, it's nice), stock launcher with resizeable widgets (so launcherpro plus will have to develop new functionalities to keep its position on the market ), google chrome compatible browser, inbuilt webguard (gathering data about your data transfer, with all the net-consuming apps!), lockscreen notification bar, photoeditor in camera soft, android beam (file transfer with mere touch of devices), and some other minor new features.
And since it's supposed to be ginger compatible, I guess we'll see a port for X8 as soon as sources are there for taking
I read somewhere that the minimum requirements to run ICS are 256mb of RAM and a dedicated GPU.
And I read that every device that runs Gingerbread will also be able to run ICS.
So let's wait and see what happens.

This maybe true i read that too but more ram needed
also a function of ICS is face detection on camera...
apparently that will take alot of processing power...
i am sure my phone 4 year's ago could do that no problem whatso ever

SWAP isn't as fast as RAM, so it will not get good results.
We also need a better processor. Our processor is a bit slowly for ICS i think.
And ICS is available at the Android SDK, is in the repository, you can now download it, and probably run a AVD machine with it, i will try and feedback.

oh, and i read somewhere that we need a ArmV7 processor for ICS. Probably it isn't true in mine opinion.

I have been looking for a Honeycomb rom for a while now and I can't find one that I can get to boot. All the ones I have tried don't work. I have wiped all partitions, tried wiping all but boot, but have still not found a reliable HC rom. Any help will be appreciated.
Sigh... honeycomb will never work. If you want to know the reason why take a look at the section Why you shouldn't use honeycomb in the link in my sig.

So far, running Honeycomb or the WIP Ice Cream Sandwich isn't worth it yet for DD.
Honeycomb is a hijacked rom, based on hacked SDK modules, thus being somewhat outdated and buggy, while ICS is a WIP, still lacking a lot of the things a DD OS needs.
If you really want a Tablet-oriented OS for Nook, I suggest you wait until Dalingrin and Fattire finished their work on CM9 ICS for our Nook Color.
But to be honest, just go for CM7 for now, it has a whole bunch of Tablet Tweaks included that will make it act and feel a lot more like Honeycomb / ICS, including the necessary softbuttons you will need.
Furthermore, if you install Nook Tweaks from the Market, then you can increase the power levels on the Speaker and Earphone Plug, increasing the (way too low) volume of the Nook to be acceptable.
Also... there aren't a whole bunch of Tablet-optimized Apps out yet... just check the Android Market with a 3.0+ Device and you will see what I mean...
One way or another, you will be falling back to 2.X Generation Applications, simply because there ain't a 3.0+ Tablet Version of it just yet...
Sorry, that was a somewhat long answer for something that should have been simple... Stick to CM7 for now, you won't regret it.

Must say for early stages ICS looks pretty sweet. Looking forward to the stable version by Codeworkx and team.
My opinion though is that i still find Gingerbread pretty solid and has all the features i need still. Yes ICS is still in early stages. But there are still few features that i can not leave without just yet. And plus battery life of course is a major issue for me so when kernel sources are released i am sure we shall see an influx of kernels to tackle the problem as it was in the early days of Gingerbread on our gorgeous phones.
Question here is...Do you guys find it worth the jump even on early stages or are you sticking with Gingerbread as it is still stable and you have all the features you can ask for till the gorgeous CM9 gets more stable? Also what would you like from Gingerbread to be on ICS

I also made the jump but something made me come back to GB..I think it is still because the build is still in early stages and bugs and errors occur..Plus having the voodoo app now by Supercurio kinda makes me hold up a bit longer. Yes i know that is not a good enough reason but also battery life is a major one for me...
What i like to know in the new build of CM9 is it as smooth as people say it is when scrolling?

Well I'm most likely the wrong person to answer that, having come from the original SGS since only the last 2 days. And no, I don't think that it's not a good enough reason to revert to GB for Voodoo LOUDER when I'm actually giving it a fair thought of going back to the SGS1 for Voodoo Sound...

Don't worry, there are plenty of people like you and me giggling at the various topics of stuttering paid alternative launchers, and buggy custom AOSP roms, but they are mostly silent.
I think its great they are there, because it can lead to new insights, but so far for me stock + TW + a mild Jkay-theme hit the sweet spot for almost everything this phone can do for me.
Opinion its a leaked test rom and not ICS release who knows what will change .

Ive been trying out the cm9 alpha for a while now and am liking it. Got it setup virtually the same as my KK5 daily.
With cm9 I don't need voodoo louder and my a2dp streaming sounds better.
But.....
I could easily go back to KK5 odexed which I have setup the way I like it. Jkay mods, frozen apps, voodoo louder, etc.
I use go launcher ex, go sms pro and poweramp on both so mostly my user interface is the same.
Found since sgs1 that I like the 3rd party apps more than stock. Thats the beauty of android I guess.

I started using CM9 since the first build, which was very buggy, but its been my daily driver since then and I love it now, stable enough for everyday use (amazing for an alpha) and I already find it better than CM7, I can't go back to GB after updating lol, love the new UI, the only time I ran into a problem was when I wanted to see football highlights last night but can't watch the video =D other that tho I love ICS, can't wait for a full and stable release! Highly recommend it! I found I don't need as many 3rd party apps, don't use widget locker or go launcher or go contacts etc anymore, the only one I use now is go SMS pro.

Same here. ICS is very good and I urge all to give CM9 a try. Of course we cannot mod, theme etc.. at this stage but to be frank there is no need to. Great sensible UI coupled with a very smooth and snappy scrolling and other animations makes it a perfect ROM for a common user. If you are too much into theming, tweaking etc.. stay away from CM9 at the moment until a stable one comes out.
Not much of a battery drain also. Maybe 10% more than stock GB.

I tested for 2 days the ICS and I must say that the samsung team it's on the good way. ICS will be a wonderful OS to run on SGS2. They still have a lot of bugs to fix, but there are just leaks. We must wait for some official releases.
At the moment you can use ICS just to explore some of the goodies that will be present in the future for our phones. We will have to keep gingerbread for a while

Personally I don't find ICS the revolutionary change that some people were hyping around. It's an improvement, but not super.
And +1 to the people who mentioned the media part. Once it's fixed I might go to CM9.
And frankly I don't find Trebechet launcher on CM9 smoother than Touchwiz on Gingerboard :/

I am totally agree with Dzel.
Since ICS alpha(not even beta) version. its no good to compare stable GB version.
Again CM9 is much better than CM7.
I am running cm9 as my daily now as most remaining issues are not so important.
I was before on cm7 with Siyah kernel, and honestly, everything was really running smooth. I do not see any big improvment in ICS, and in that point, I am a litle disapointed.
I will stick to cm9 as ICs is now the developped OS, but I was waiting for more big changes from Google.
A litle bit like diff between OSX 10.3, .4, .5 etc etc. No real big changes.

Yep Samsung released ICS on the Google Nexus. If you want update from cymod, check the dev forums. All the info is there.
As of right now, there is no official ETA on Cyanogenmod9 (ICS) although from looking at their latest work (Nightly Builds, they are close. They will have to go through some Betas and then a RC (Release Candidate,) but even the Alphas are in a very good state. Usually by the time it is in Beta, CM is in a daily-driver condition.
As for Samsung's official ICS rom, the company has committed to bringing ICS to the entire Galaxy Tab line in Q1 of 2012, which means in the first 3 months of the year (Jan, Feb, March) Bear in mind that there is the possibility that they will miss that deadline due to unforseen bugs and isssues, so they may end up delivering in Q2, which would still put them on track for their initial promise of the first half of the year.

The tab is much much faster with ICS and the general performance is better. For example theres no lag when using the appswitcher.
Some things aren't working yet (Camera, native VPN) but since a few days even hardware-accelerated video is working. Just do a nandroid backup and try it out, it runs REALLY great! I would never go back

i agree the Kang release is good enough to use every day. IMO Honeycomb is rubbish and this rom is way better

I just picked up a 10.1 and am very dissapointed with its performance. Very laggy and not a great user experience.
Before I sell it or put too much effort into it, do any of the ICS builds make a noticeable improvement in the over all performance? Or is it just a better UI?
Honeycomb is downright awful IMO, and I would rather have GB stretched out on this thing given the inconsistency of HC. I know ICS will address some of those concerns, but if it doesn't also bring with it a performance improvement I think I will sell this thing.

ICS is much better than HC, not just the UI. At the moment, there's still a few things that don't work (camera, for example). But don't take my word, try it, it will only take a few minutes and then you decide if it's good enough.
you can get immediate and excellent performance by just going to GalaxyTask custom ROM - ICS is even more smoother

Compared to the stock honeycomb that comes with the 10.1, this is night and day. Performance on stock honeycomb was a JOKE. Lagged like my HTC Hero. Same day as I bought the pad I installed this ICS ROM and it's been awesome ever since. Only need the camera working now!
You wont be dissapointed. This is a great piece of hardware, but shipped with unoptimized software. Flash your own software in and you'll love it!
Even going to a custom 3.2 rom will give a lot of speed and responsivness. 3.1 is realy realy not the best rom to put on a device and help "selling" the thing!
I've been running Galaxy Task Slim 13.1 and it's realy better than stock 3.1. I haven't tryed the stock 3.2 yet though, that might be a performance jump also!
I too agree. After the switch to the ICS there is no way to revert back to the old HC version. This despite the lack of the camera and the VPN......

Thanks for replying after the recommendation I have upgraded to p4wifi milestone 3, its awesome.
Is there anything that you recommend to make it even better apps etc?
