Custom ICS race - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Seems that all development (in public) is cancelled for this weekend LOL
Anyone want to comment when we expect to see customised ROMs start to show up?
I'm guessing most of the cheff's are already racing to be the first with a stable and usable ROM. No first prize for a release for bugs LOL
I'm finding ICS has nice features. But I really miss JKays customisations and Kalagas' theme.
When can I go outside to fly my new kite? ;-)

i guess not all dev are building customs on ics they might waitin for the next release which would be comparatively than than the lp1 so it might take 2- 3 weeks for a stable custom ics

Well actual leaks are stable as hell. No problems at all.

Im not interested in being first to release a custom ics and in all fairness neither do i think are the others.
Both releases are basic at best. I spent all day building two versions both of which offered no benefit. Spent more time restoring my phone lol
Im sure someone will release a version soon. But for me gb wins out at the mo.

if someone could modify chineese leak, it would be the best atm, because it is very fast and no major bugs

That is the origin of the pain.
All users are getting themselves
excited about ICS and then they come
down to earth real hard
feeling dissapointed.
Ppl should stop thinking that GB->ICS
is like trading your wife 4 some latino sexbomb

The chinese is the better option. But
What can be acieved.
Deodex yes. But will themers waste time on a release which can be superceeded quickly.
Kernels. No sources out yet so no benefit there as franco has pointed out.
Slim rom. This can be done by users already.
So whats there to gain at the moment. Not to mention as chas found out the hard way it can be a ***** to restore a nandroid.
It took me ages to get my system back in cwm. After the first version i cooked got me stuck at the boot screen. But i faced the same restore issue after using the repack
I can understand everyone wants new and wants it now. But it does not offer much more than gb at the mo. Except grief.
When a solid base comes out then yeah bring it on until then ill pass

Thats your answer right there.
I already have a CWM flashable .zip of the Chinese\chainfires repack leak. It has all the samsung and touchwiz crap taken out of it, the treb launcher and google apps slipped in. I have also replaced the language files with english as default.
Anyone with half a brain can do the above just use the XDA search button. There are no real custom roms for the note (apart from CM9) the rest you see are all themed\tweaked originals.
As it stands the sources are not that great and very dirty.
There is only one dev you should be waiting on and thats Sebastian Mauer mad respect to him.

What I'd like to see the most is for someone to make a 240DPI ICS Rom.
With 240 DPI as default look.
That would be amazing.
By this, I mean that everything should be fully compatible in 240 dpi, no graphical glitches and all that ****.
I can't seem to achieve this on my own sadly. There will always be one graphical glitch that I would be annoyed to look at.

Agreed 100 percent.
And i only have quater of a brain lol

Solid info.
But I thought its about the kernel drivers? Or will the situation change after the official realease? They should provide sources for the kernel, right? (Except for the closed drivers of course)
I think a debloated release of the chinese rom with gapps and some goodies could be of some interest though (might make me try it if it saves a lot of hassle). But atm its all very temporary.

Someone (netchip I think) is in the middle of doing up a ASOP + Chinese release.
I think that would have quite a bit of potential...

Lol, it's harmless
Just look at the nexus one forum, full of cm7 nag-bang roms.
Its really not that hard to compile...I was just about to now that I see it works. I was doing it on my N1 for personal use (crack-fiend nightlies lol), and now that I have my Inc, I'm doing the same.
I follow what you're saying. What I meant to get across is that I would rather wait for someone else to release something.

curiosity almost killed this cat. had flashed that numnut's rom (because I am an idiot) - the rom would not install (aborted on some issues, typical of jd) and after that none of the nandroids would restore either - they would abort at restoring system - tried a few things then did a battery pull and thankfully it seems the nandroid is restoring now.
caveat emptor... i guess
Alright...yall are gonna have to fill me in (I'm brand new to the Inc and this Sub-Forum)...Who is jdkoreclipse, and why are you all talking so much trash about him?

Has a loooooooooooooooooooong history of stepping on the toes of the CM team, team douche, and any dev he can steal work from. Check out his website. Shameless.
He's out for the donations, that's about it.
I downloaded and tried to run 'CM7'. There was a few errors upon flashing and a few things didn't work and lots of functionality was missing. I restored my nightly #184 w/ invibilek #18. Thanks for the headsup.
Hi all! New to the forum, but not android in general. And am eager to dive into the clockwork behind this phone, and what makes it tick. Also, on the wife's Aria.
Anyway, I've had android power for about a year and have known about the Cyanogenmod rom since cm5. And judging on how much buzz there was around cm6 coming out, it seems to me we would've heard a little more about cm7 being released til now, IMO. Now, I may be wrong, and if so I apologize, but I think the main man himself would've waited til a stable RC, then come out with it across the board, not a nightly "progress" build so everyone can flash into a bootloop. That's what rom manager pro is for!
Besides, tonight is the first time I've heard of cm7. I may be way over the line, I apologize in advance. After we all do have opinions...

There is a difference between compiling the most recent source code on github (RC0), and an official release. Anyone can compile, but only the CM team can release stable RCs (RC1 and up) and final builds.
CM7 isn't really CyanogenMod yet, as we know it on CM6. All of the little goodies are yet to be merged, it's mostly just an effort to get supported devices stable at Gingerbread. I'm running it on my nexus, and it's pretty sweet.
Oh, I understand. I knew I should've kept my mouth shut, lol. Nevertheless, I'm not flashing any gingerbread til its further along, I.e. optimizing not stabilizing. Who knows when that'll be though. I think I'll just wait til it officially drops.

Looks interesting will look and see where it goes in the future I agree tho HTC n Sprint are pretty good downfall of HTC is their lack of the next big phone on sprint atm EVO 3d was a little of a flop nice phone could have been better. Will have to see how they do with ics and getting it out.

Yeah HTC has some cool devices coming out, but Sprint is missing out. They need to give Sprint a Beats phone, hopefully with the Bliss ROM on it I love that UI and the new Rosie has to be my all time favorite.
I think they will work magic with ICS, Sense overlay would be nice especially with what I have been seeing of 3.5!

lots of people seem to have mixed results with beats and with ICS i think the sense overlay while it looks nice ICS looks good its the actual first stock android look that is nice.It would be nice if they cut back sense or got rid of their launcher anyways. the main reason companys created overlays was due to the lack of smoothness android didnt have. google really outdid their self with ICS imo its what 2.3 and 3.0 should have been.

I think it'd be good, because I flashed it for my friend on their thunderbolts, and I was actually fairly impressed. I think putting some light back on them would be good cuz for the evo, when it first got rooted, they were the place to be, but now with more developers, more people are spread out, but they're great roms for aosp.
I actually just flashed it about 2 hours ago. I'm impressed with it; has the correct pngs, flows nicely, even without a reboot.

Nice! How exciting! I am working on a review of the Runny bliss Hybrid this week and then I will do OMFGB next week.
I am looking to do a ROM a week that way I can use it the whole week and give a more well rounded opinion. I am currently doing everything as is, with no kernel or other tweaks just the ROM as it comes. I will flash Gapps of course and my normal apps...
I am glad to have caught your attention and hope to bring some more users to your fabulous ROM, which I have been know to use from time to time. Are you running the latest nightly or the stable?

Yea they would be, which is why a lot of people using them partition their sd cards, to save some internal space, but they can be used un-partitioned.
They have the ROM's partitioned so its all in the "ROM memory" there its actually internal memory free.
I ran it for a whole week with no mods at all and it was smooth very rare lag and no crashes. Although I only use about 40 apps, there its plenty of memory, but moving cache to sd and apps to sd helps.

Try for a moment to step outside your world and look at things from the other 99% of Epic users; the ones that AREN'T on XDA and spend most of their day doing things other than flashing their phones. Even assuming that ICS works smoothly on the Epic, replacing the current GB rom with a bare stripped ICS rom would look like a downgrade to them with all the Touchwiz functions missing. Maybe some people would like that, but I think it would be a marketing mess to try and explain why they are taking away features with an update.
For those of us who are geeky enough to want a plain ICS rom, stand by for CM9, that will be here much sooner than we would get an official ICS update.
And if I see one more new thread about whether or not we get some stupid upgrade a year from now I am going to throw up all over XDA! Please put all rants in an existing ICS rant and complaints!
Cheer up !
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyx6JDQCslE&ob=av3e
why worry about phone updates that much ....
You have to understand that Samsung is just lazy about the Epic. We are just recently getting a final Gingerbread build in November and it STILL has memory leaks. They would like Sprint to discontinue them.

2.2 is working well, but the CM alpha version of 2.3 that was put out for the Moment, ran like crap, and was pretty much dropped as the devs moved on. I HIGHLY doubt that any version of ICS will run on the Samsung Moment in a decent manner
Not that I dont wish it would, just having modded the Samsung Moment for a couple years now, IMO it just doenst have enough internal space or processing power for a full blown ICS build.
Now the Epic has enough of both, if the partitions are resized, but I highly doubt that Samsung will take that route.
IMO, the only way the Epic will see ICS is with CM9. Thankfully, I feel there is a very good chance CM9 will be developed and released at some point by the CM development team

OK there is some confusion here...
1. He was wrong with "can't," Samsung could remove touchwiz entirely from our phone, and put AOSP Ics, with our hardware drivers that they have access too. HTC has already done this by removing sense from a phone, so it could get gingerbread.
2. As long as there is a tutorial, any user can get used to a new ui.
3. Our phone(nor any gs phone) does not need any touchwiz at all in CM. We have to use some Samsung proprietary files, cause we cant change them.

Maybe Samsung should just release a non TW version of ICS, but not have it as an OTA download. Those that want it would have to download it manually from a website and then use the "Odin for Dumbies" method of flashing ala the EB13 download that walked a person step by step on flashing the phone which would wipe the whole phone and install EB13.
That way the 99% of users who don't tinker with there phones would still have TW and GB on their phones and be happy with it, while the few that want ICS would get it as well.

Yes but its not worth the time and money for them to do that. Especially when CM9 does it for free. In my opinion, the smartest thing for them to do would be to supply the Samsung CM maintainers with the necessary drivers and sources to easily get CM9 running perfectly. Doesnt cost any money or much time and at the end of the day, the people who care are happy.

So, every Epic owner who doesn't use XDA also can't handle the transition to a new UI? Not one of those several hundred users has ever had a previous phone, especially not one made by HTC or any of the several other android phone manufacturers, or a Blackberry or iPhone? If that's the case, how did I miss the rioting when Sprint released the first update to Froyo? Or GB? (The UI changed with both of those upgrades, remember?)

Overpopulation must have really gotten out of control without my noticing - the last time I checked, this entire planet has a finite (in other words, limited) population...
I personally don't have a Moment, so the absolute maximum number of people (the limit, if you will) is already guaranteed to be [world population - 1] at the most (assuming every man, woman and child has a Moment except me)
So, what was that about stupidity?

That would directly contradict the point he tried to make by using that statement - that development is still rolling on the Moment. If there were limited users in this case (since we know that there is always a limit to the number, actually stating it implies a very limited number), then that would be an argument in favor of slowing or halting development on that device due to a dwindling user base
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
It reads to me that the thought he is trying to convey is, "why does the moment (with such a limited user base) already have people (not samsung) working on ics and cm9 and we dont (with many more people currently using the epic)?".
I'm not sure though. The op need some grammer training and a better spellchecker.

Nicely reworded.
That said, anyone know of a link to any sort of ICS and/or CM9 in any state for the Moment?

Which custom ICS ROM?

Hey guys!
Please tell me which custom ICS ROM should i use.
I used Stunner since the beginning of development, but at this days (with version 1.4.26.1) i feel that my Note is not as powerfull as it was (with version 4.5 or 5).
i get failures when i try to flash my own theme..
with stunner V5 i themed my note by myself, but today it wouldnt work, my created .zip ends with a bootloop.
and what i recognized to is that my Note has a worse batterylife... Using Stunner 5 i could use my device 2 or 3 days without loading the battery, but now with the actuall Stunner Version i lose 10% per hour. oO
-> i dont think that a app is the reason for this, i use the same "setup" all time..
Thanks a lot

Me too, its a great ROM but I'll probably jump ship to CM9 when it's matured a bit more

Were you happy with Stunner 5?
I will (re)flash my Note to this (older) Version & publish a reworked Theme...
Who would follow me?
I've used criskelo, midnote, stunner and CM9
CM9 is by far the most stable imo. I had small annoying problems with the other 3 all the time. With CM9 everything runs perfectly smooth. No FC, no nothing.
And no risk, no matter how small, of bricking your phone.
I am using Cyanofree and enjoying it. I might jump to CM9 after the next build.

After getting hard bricked by last Stunner, the only ICS that I will try is CM9 or just wait for proper ICS from Samsung.
Edit: Just wanted to point out this my earlier comment wasn't against Stunner or Neo but I was just pointing out the dangers of these leaked kernels. I have used Neo's ROMs since Vibrant days so I know that he is not a newbie developer and it wasn't completely his fault that i have a $500+ paper weight.

+1 to this
I was fortunate in that my phone wasn't bricked whilst using stunner (I really like Stunner btw).
Even though there is no firm data as to numbers of hard bricked devices, there is plenty of anecdotal evidence and technical explanations as to why the leaked kernels are dangerous. Surely it's not worth the risk (unless you're loaded)?

I'm impressed. It only took one post for someone to ask about the camera.
Kill me. Kill me now.

camera did what now?
I am so done with Samsung. I should have known that after the Samsung Epic, that their software updates are unbelievably/unexcusably slow. I took a chance with the 10.1 and got burned again.
I am done with you Samsung, I really am.

Lol so tell me.. Your moving to htc? Or LG? Or what ^_^? Samsung has IMHO the best high end device /support /development in android's world.. I've tried almost every brand out there and I'm very satisfied with Samsung products...
Got a gnex, gtab and recently bought a gnote...
If you want faster updates you should get Google nexus devices... I got jelly bean in my 8 months old gnex the next second Google released the preview after I/O for Google play devices..

I honestly don't know what I will move to. From what I understand, all Motorola devices lock their bootloader, so that is out.
I don't know. Samsung has AWESOME hardware which is why I love them so much, but their software support leaves a LOT to be desired.

well you have an android device.. it's open source... meaning communities like xda has great developers... you only need to read a bit (5–10 mins) to be able to root and flash cwm recovery into your device Wich btw its hell easy in most samsung devices... then you are ready to flash any custom roms out there... And you can ask anyone devs here in xda are wayyy more talented than manufacturer's... meaning custom roms performs wayyy better than stock roms... and you will be updated as soon as any change in aosp code happens go ahead and void your warranty xD.. there's always methods to go back to stock
cheers

Trust me when I tell you, I know. I am running ICS on my Samsung Epic device, which only supports GB. LOL.
No matter how good our developers are, they still need Samsung to do their part. FOR EXAMPLE... Take a picture with your 10.1 using ANY ICS ROM that our developers have put together. Plus, to be completely honest, we shouldn't have to count on our NON-PAID, VOLUNTEER devs to make the software everything that it SHOULD HAVE BEEN when released from Samsuck.

what i do its having my gnex so i can taste anything out there.. and so i can wait for the so delayed manufactrurers roms.. got my tab for different stuff and my note as my daily driver..

I am in the same boat as you. I should of learned with the Captivate how they do things in regards to updates but I didnt. The only way I will still buy a Samsung product is if they are making the next nexus phone or tablet. That way factory images will be provided and then I can just flash the updates myself and not have to wait for them to update it for me.

I was going to post a link, but it looks like you beat me to it, thanks!
This port is pretty buggy, but overall its SO smooth. I haven't had a single lag/shutter. Only draw-backs are no wifi and audio (I don't even need to mention the camera...)
The port is pretty awesome, and I'm expecting something great to come of this, making our tabs better, faster, and way more productive.
Hi men.
I have a GT-p7500 and am ready to test every safe rom/os on it.if you have info that I'm not informed of pm me!
But this preeeee-alpha version isn't worth.
Ps:I'll test it though!!!!!!

Wifi works, sounds work and sd youtube works
New build is up and this can and I do use daily no bugs to speak of. Apart camera 3G etc. This ROM is buttery smooth and is very fluid and has hadn't a wow factor to my tab and you wouldn't go back to hc nor ICS. Try this ROM :good:
