Unlocking free via IMEI, anyone? - Wildfire General

So... a local reseller is offering me his HTC Wildfire (known as Desire A here where i live) BUT there is one problem, it is locked with an operator which i dont like and i can't pay. So I was wondering if there was a free way to unlock it (not rooting please, i dont understand that). I know that IMEI is legal and easy but and its cheap the problem is that i dont own a Credit Card, Therefore i cant pay it. Is there a way of getting my unlock code for free? Or is there another way to unlock it?

Is there a particular reason saying no to root? Actually do you really know what root is? If I am not mistaken, you can do your job done using alpharev (s-off unlock and the process is reversible back to s-on), maybe someone can show you the way to "how to" exactly.

Htc Hero Unlock

I have just debranded my tmobile G2 and i am now running thr 2.1 generic htc rom. I just need to unlock the phone.
Does anyone know where if there is a free or cheap way to do it?
Thanks in advance.
Can't unlock for free. Someone else can recommend you a place as I haven't bothered.
no free way, unless you call tmobile and get them to unlock it.
the way ive unlocked 2 heros is by using express-codes on ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HTC-Unlock-Co...698131?pt=UK_Phones_Software_RL#ht_1773wt_911
there are other sellers, but i can actually recommend this guy from using his codes.

No, unlock is permanent.
Im currently locked to orange but have also purchased a code from the link above but aside from the being able obviously use different sims are there any other advantages to unlocking ?
Reason I ask is because im pretty sure that when I first rooted and loaded a custom rom I used an orange specific radio.....but more recent threads suggest radios are region rather than network specific....
I dont currently have any issues being locked so want to be sure there will be no adverse effects from the unlock.....
Cheers

No other unlocking advantages AFAIK, although orange uk is known to have issues on some of the radios if locked (to be fair, I think it happened only once or twice).
But I think that is all over. Radios are region/hardware defined, not network defined. Unlocking doesn't cause issues. In fact, unlocking was the way to use the "non orange" radio most recently on an orange phone.

This being a community of highly skilled devs, surely someone can figure out how we can unlock our phones without having to pay for the 'privilege'?
Even the guys we are buying the codes from must have figured something out or are buying the codes from elsewhere?
How exactly does this work? Where do you enter the unlock code?
I thought once you install custom firmware you phone will be unlocked...

They are buying their codes direct from HTC. And a method of unlocking for free is known, but it needs done before every boot, so it's not usable, as it needs a PC and home-made serial terminal cable to send AT commands to the radio chip IIRC.
The radio requires the code to allow access, and the codes are randomly assigned/generated, so there's no algorithm to reverse engineer.
You insert a SIM that your phone won't accept, and then you get asked for the unlock code at boot, just like entering your SIM PIN.
And at £6.75 for an unlock code, I'm not gonna spend hours on looking for a method I'm afraid, since I can't justify the time to myself.

dont see how this place having devs means that you get to unlock your phone for free. this place is for rom development mainly, if you want methods on how to unlock, there are forums like gsmhosting that deal with that.
the guys that sell the codes online havent "figured something out". they are providing a service which they also pay for, they are basically middle men. i suggest you research how unlocking via code works.
to unlock via code, you put in a sim that isnt allowed, eg a tmobile sim into an orange locked phone, then itll tell you "sim restricted" or thereabouts, and ask for the code. thats where you enter it.
custom firmware has nothing to do with unlocking, although in certain cases (eg orange firmware) custom roms or downgrading is required to unlock the phone.
still doesnt mean that custom roms actually unlock the phone.

if you had a look at his negative feedback, most of them had follow up comments by him which were removed by ebay. i managed to see one or two of them before they got removed, and they were basically things like "your wifes using the phone as a replacement for you lol", things like that. nearly all of his neg feedback had follow up comments removed.
was quite funny, but i think that it may be because of those comments that hes no longer registered. only a hunch mind you.
Greetings folks,
Got one of these codes and happy with it,
Used the code on Sensehero B5.1 and worked great.

Rooting won't help him to remove the sim-lock. Have you asked your carrier how much they will charge to get it unlocked?
Swyped from my HTC Legend
it's a second hand phone...i bought it from someone and the phone is registered on her name so the carrier wont do it for me unless she is present and she is not available so i'm looking for other ways to do that...
anyone? please....
This seems illegal. If the phone was bought with a simlock for a certain period, the carrier should not remove it, nor you.
At least in Spain, unlocking a cellphone is absolutely legal, no matter when you bought it.
completely legal in Israel too...
Unlocking the phone to be used on other carriers is completely legal.

[Q] Random Thought

Does it bug anyone that one click rooting takes way more than 1 click? (Not that I use one click programs for my Xoom)
No. It bothers me that people are so stupid that they want and use the so called one click methods period. Even more so on a device with a unlocked bootloader.

You dont need alot of knowledge and the guids are ez to follow. The problem with one click's are they dont expose you to ADB so when something goes wrong with the one click you wont know what to do. ADB is something that I avoided but with an unlocked bootloader its a good place to learn. just my opinoin

Very well said. I have rooted two android devices previously, but the Xoom gave me my first experience using adb. It came in very handy when I got into a soft brick and was able to negotiate my way out of it. I still experience some anxiety whenever I'm about to mod my Xoom, but it helps to have some basic knowledge (and know what you don't know). Also, read and follow the directions and get everything prepared in advance.

R800X Users being teased?

Let's see
We can root it.
And fastboot recognizes our phone. It's kinda like we're missing something.
It's like those ****ers at Verizon are teasing us.
And does the D2 method work on this?
yep they are hell we can root it but can not install cm7. the roms we can install i dont thank are that good every one i ask online says cm7 is the best but i am hoping that they will make one we can flash with out having the bootloader unlocked because us R800X users can not do that (with out paying and thats something im not going to do)
what we need are more roms that are good and work with out haveing are bootloader unlocked i got the phone because i was thinking it was fun and it is and i was thinking i was going to be puting cm7 or ICS OS will i can not do ether of them and as of right now it sucks haveing the R800X i hope i can get something like a ICS like CM9 or at lest CM7 ya know
I am seriously about to pay the money though. Sure our nandroid roms are cool but I want CM9

This thread is pointless.
What no one understands is that the Xperia line is not like other phones.
Kernels will NEVER be able to be flashed via CWM on this phone.
Xperias do not have a boot portion onboard the system
To install ROMs like CM7, you MUST install a different kernel.
Sure, no one likes to pay.
But what other options do you have?
You can unlock by paying now, or you can try to wait it out
A free method will never come again.

Couldnt agree more. This will be a never ending debate. Anyone with a locked bootloader has (2) options .. a) Unlock your Bootloader .. b) Take the time to Learn how to develop a rom that you would like for your locked down phone.
Plus we're on Verizon, did you really think they would make it easy for ya?
Point of this thread was to discuss how Verizon gave us 99% of what we need,( fastboot and root) then tease us by not giving us the other 1%( IMEI or free way to unlock )

... you know imei is the identifier for GSM phones, so there is no way any phone that is built for CDMA networks will have an imei, correct? ...
Oh, and Verizon has done their best to deny root (2.3.2 blocked gingerbreak, the old way to root. Zergrush was developed after 2.3.3 was released)
We didn't actually have fastboot enabled, on a stock phone.
So, actually Verizon did their very best to lock down the phone, and only due to the awesomeness of developers and unlockers on XDA, do we have the any freedom at all.

While that may be your intent. This statement makes clear that you don't even understand the situation. Until you, and anyone else who would make a thread like this, either decides to read more (or quit posting) we will continue to have unproductive threads like this. Though I don't suppose you consider this unproductive...and THAT is the real problem here.
Let me make one thing clear for you. Verizon, gave you nothing. You sir, or whomever pays your cell bill are paying for quite a bit. But not on that list is the freedom to do what you will with your phone.

Yeah, I'm living it. I feel like it's a tease just for this reason. I look around here, knowing that I'm not going to *be able* to pay to unlock my bootloader, as I'm unemployed and in High School, I find some cool threads involving the R800x. I forget about needing a different kernel, and the developer doesn't thoroughly explain it enough to the point where I have to find that out the hard way.
Then I find some new customization apps, like maybe a new launcher and other stuff and realize that not having a custom ROM isn't all that bad, especially since R800x came with pure Vanilla Android, with customization at it's best. I eventually get bored with the setup on my phone after noticing some new features that are only available on custom ROMs, most commonly Theme Chooser with CyanogenMod, or MIUI in general, then the cycle repeats. I just can't learn... Silly me!
i just think the R800x should be able to unlock there bootloaders for free just like the other xperia plays because im just like the one guy that posted i dont have the money to pay to unlock my boot loader. it sucks being stuck using the 2.3.3 update win others get to use the cm7 with the 2.3.7 update it sucks for us it sucks bad

[PAID JAVA CARD] 1.54 Hboot S-off

Hi Guys just saw this on youtube, i guy was able to s-off his ONE using a "JAVA CARD". Dont know how to contact that person , but i guess we can finally have s-off on 1.54 hboot
Please check the below link:

UPDATE: Well this is a hardware service that some sites provide , you would have to pay them and send your phone for them to s-off, so no real reason for us to cheer up , just have to keep praying for a new exploit
UPDATE 2: as notified by people , i changed the subject line of the thread to reflect the actual process of S-Off

well maybe the method is not very reliable right now thats why the video is like that. but still its a MAJOR progress and such a relief for guys like me who are stuck with s-on. you can clearly see at the end of the vid that the phone is indeed s-off
It's not going to be an easy task, not like a revone or moonshie. You'll need a programmed java card to do it. I only know of what I just read but it seems it's like a smart card of some kind. There is probably a program on the card that runs to get s-off. So not only would you need the pre programmed card, but you would need everything required to hook the card up to the phone. It looks like he is using some kinda of special usb cable. Maybe on the other end of that the card is hooked up to.

This looks a lot like the old HOX S-Off thread already. I hope we can find a way that doesn't require a java card. thankfully I S-OFF'd my phone before updating to 1.54
They can always S-OFF like the Rezound and Amaze had to do, we had to use a paper clip to somehow short out the security, something like that haha.
wow , never knew it was that tricky. well anyways still hopeful that someone can find a way someday , for us to s-off our phones without paying upto $100.
would it be possible to get smething like the misctool from below to work for our phones?

I have s-off on 1.54 also, as do many others, BUT s-off was done on 1.44 then it stays s-off when the hboot is updated to 1.54. People can't be s-on on 1.54 and get s-off.
At least it shows by whatever means 1.54 is still exploitable and it's now just a case of waiting for the dev's to find one.

The Java card is used to set S-OFF, it doesn't exploit anything as the official method of attaining S-OFF and is used by HTC service centers to make changes to the system

And yet people bought this phone not knowing if they would get s off or not. If HTC doesn't make any changes to what they allow in S on, most people don't really need s off anyway.
