I strongly believe that in any major town must exists at least one store or so-called emporium which sells electronic spare parts like resistors, capacitors, chips and so on, surely including LEDs too. You just need to find that one in your town.
Also I'm quiet surprised that only 10 minutes of using photo flash as common flashlight could burn LED to broken state!

yes 10 minutes continously ... :-(

Burnt out Camera Flash Light

Apologies if this has already been discussed, in which case please indicate the thread to me.
I have burnt out the bright light, which is used as a flashlight for the camera. Has anyone had the same problem and been able to repair it without sending it back for repairs. If positive, where can I find the parts in the United Kingdom?
Many thanks for your assistance

That is the worst thing! I used the camera, not your software to map the key. Closed the XDA, put it in my pocket and the damn flash led stayed on for over an hour!!!

Bah, humbug. I built timers into mine for just that reason.
If it's under warranty you might be able to get a new for old. Otherwise, I really couldn't say, I don't know if the device is still available in this country

Yes, it is still under warranty, will have to return it. On a separate issue, if it no longer available in the country (but still provided by 02), what is replacing it?

Where, tried everything, maplin, rswww, got some different leds, tried them, nothing works. Really appreciate if you could tell me where to get them. Eric
This is another case for me!
Well, I currently don't have any problems with my universal's "flash light", but it surely is a high intensity white led.
Most of these leds have the same operating voltage and if this is not the case, it will be neccessary just to measure the exact voltage at the led's leads, it might not even be burnt at all, it it's surely driven by a transistor.
I was just watching lumileds page and they have a led that does exactly the "flash" function, they even mention a competitor (I don't who it is but might be osram or another), what's also important is that phisically is that the led has to be phisically similar and the wors thing that can happen is that might be dimmer than the original.
I'll try to find out something more...
bye for now
i have exec for sale buy it take the bulb out then sell the screen and parts on

Can't find replacement led flash.

I am amazed at how little turned up when searching for a replacement led (camera flash) for this phone. Heh, minus less concise searches like HTC g2 flash.
So anyways, it's dead. I'd like to replace it, any idea where I can get the part? Seems like finding the part will be harder than replacing it. Yikes.
Btw.. my flash had been occasionally turning a light bluish-purple color, akin to turning up the color temp prior to this. It then went out like a light bulb.. turn on for a split second... (then obviously off) only to never turn on again. Just a heads up for anyone noticing the same behavior.. your time with led flash is almost up..
Why do I get the feeling that this is a post that I'll see go down seven pages while **** like 'can I has huneycrumb?' flys past?
My flash went out a few months ago and I haven't gotten around to ordering a warranty replacement yet. What I find very strange though is that I can turn it on through the camcorder. No other app is able to turn it on, and even then it only lasts for less than 2 minutes.
The camera app may be sending a lower 'power output' (don't know to phrase it) than torch app (even torch on normal mode) you can verify this by comparing modes commanded in your kernel log (dmesg)..
In terminal emu type dmesg | grep flashlight
8 is high power
4 is normal power
0 is off
And aw hell. Why not just launch camera app myself..
Yep.. flashlight mode 1...
I'm betting that vision, glacier, and ace all use the same led flash board.
Nexus one is a no go. I believe we're looking for a L shaped PCB with one flash. Correct me if I am wrong.
I can take a picture of the actual flash if anyone needs to see it. I have a fully disassembled G2 close by...

Yes please! The higher res, the better. Manufacturer markings or part numbers would be a dream - but that's probably not on there. So connector type and other 'identifiers' will be the best bet. Thanks very much.
Where would you start to look for such a part? Just wondering.

Ive always wanted a multicoulered flash that you could change the colour of Strobe effect with it changing colours would be awesome
Have you tried contacting HTC, they might either fix it under warranty, or maybe they could get you in contact with their supplier

I have insurance. I do not want to swap this phone for some refurbished junk... that and revert all the mods like gfree.
Of course. I could switch the led with the functional led from the replacement.
These are that rare, huh? Leds, that is - jk... kinda.

I don't know if you still use your G2. My flash died a few days ago and I stumbled across replacement modules on ebay:

[Q] 7 vibrations stick together, freezes and crashes (photos)

well i saw that this had been asked a long time ago, well i got "my legendary HTC HD2" from ebay.... i think i have been scamed by a hong kong seller, i think it was faulty and he kneww it and now im not under warranty, when i first powered the phone used it like for 15 minutes and rebooted into stick toggether and made 7 vibrations, and again and again... then i thougt it was software installed maglrd android bla bla... what is happening when unsing my phone at 1ghz in some time using browser or games it freezes and never returns back, about heat its warm the lowe part but not to hot i dont think overheating is the problem well you tellme and in bootloader it says security unlocked at the top. i dont know if has something to be with whats happening, its tmous unlocked,,,i think the chinese scamed me
WELL I FINALLY OPENED IT, and came to the conclution that was previously opened and filled with thermal paste, and red dot meaning it was in contact with water, scamed by hong kong celler sofwaytech, dont buy from them.
I thunk you have an underclocked kernel and that why you have those problems . I had those myself but when I updated kernel ( not Rom ) everything was working fine
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA
no :S i tried like 5 roms with diferent kernels, no luck
It could be that the ROM's you are trying are overclocked too much for the phone capacity.
nope, i use them at 809 for not crashing if i use it at 1ghz i would crash, so its harware but i dont know who is going to fix it
isn't there a way to lodge a complain @ ebay if the unit is really defective?
BTW have you tried to restore it back to WP6.5 or try to install WP7?
also I bought one HD2 from Taobao (China biggest net seller) and had the same problem.
Everytime I turn-on data connection (actually edge), the phone freeze. Not too hot on the body, so heat might not be the problem.
Maybe the CPU frequency controll apps are the reason, but I have not experiment yet.
I will perform task29 and reinstall WM6.5 if i were in your case to test.
thanks to all for your answers. first off i knew i shouldnt trust in someone who is in hong kong, i live in argentina flew to miami and bought it, i think the compàny knows the problem, they unlock it and sell it to some resellers, and they list them as new and sell them, the freezes are when i turn on wifi or gps it dosnt matter, i know its hardware, but software goes with it, two problems damn
didnt want to revive this old thread for nothing, dont buy from softwaytech, bestpricellphones10, etc, i opened my hd2 since it stopped working, im on a galaxy nexus one, nvrmind, well i opened it and was full of thermal paste, o , well what could i expect? to the point i compared it to other hd2 disasembled and had a red dot marked with paper, bad unit, mehhhh. i burned it in the fire and throw it away, what a pitty, it was the greatest phone ever :crying:
outch! what a waste I couuld have used the digitizer one of my HD2's touch screen is dead

Did you get a picture of it? What do you mean by 'thermal paste' and 'red dot marked with paper'?
BTW how much did you pay for the phone in the first place?

Indeed.
I could have taken the back panel and probably the front buttons (if they can be disconnected from the LCD).

PAYED 260 BUCKS
i think that the dot when it comes up in contact with water it changes colour, so i dont know, that paste shouldnt be there. saw some people disasmbling them none of them with that paste neither with red dot, i got scammed.

HTC One (M7) purple tint possible solution?

Hey guys, a month ago my girlfriend bought an HTC One (M7) and I just noticed that when taking photos in low light there's a purple tint overlayed on the photos. She's not very concerned about it but I saw it and it bothers me a lot. I searched for this problem on Google and Reddit and found out that it's an issue affecting a lot of people. Her problem is not as severe as some I've seen on the Internet but it's still noticeable.
Now, I know that it's a heat-related hardware issue and the only way to completely get rid of it is to return the phone and get the sensor replaced but I was thinking if it would be possible to root the phone and set the CPU to work in such a way that when you open the Camera app it underclocks temporarily to let's say 1 GHz. The temperature should then drop and theoretically the purple tint should be gone.
I created this account to post this idea and hear your thoughts about it. I still haven't tried it. So tell me what you think

Won't work. Brightness is cranked up to 100% when inside the camera app. It will get worse with time till even daylight photos will be affected. Call HTC and get it sent off whilst you still have warranty

The problem with getting the phone to HTC is that I live in a country where there isn't an official HTC store/service. Sending it to another country will cost more than the phone itself. I bought it in a so-called mobile shop and it has a 1 year warranty but I'm not sure if they'll admit that this is a problem or even if they attempt to fix it I'm afraid it will be damaged. If they somehow perfectly fix the phone and give it back we will have to wait at least 30 days. That's why I'm looking at other ways to get rid of this issue but it looks like returning it will be the only solution.
I just have one question - Does the purple always get worse over time? Because if it stays as it is now I can accept it. I got scared when I saw some photos on Reddit where you can barely see anything in the picture because of the purple.

It does get worse with time. The sensor is susceptible to heat. I went from annoying to downright awful, enough for me to not bother taking photos if it wasn't in bright daylight. That is a shame about the length of time it'll take but that is definitely the best solution

I feel guilty that she is having this problem with the phone because I recommended it to her. But oh well...
And this is very ironic because HTC marketed this phone as a "great smartphone for night shots".
Anyway I have one more question, if they don't accept the warranty how much would it cost to have this sensor replaced at an official HTC store? Thanks!
Hmmm well UK price I've heard £100 including the replacement sensor and time to fit it. Yeah HTC bought a bad batch of sensors so they dropped that company when they made the M8 hence why it doesn't have the issue

[Help] Dead screen before and after screen replacement

Hey guys, so a couple of weeks ago I dropped my N4 in water for about 10 seconds, as I was attempting to shut it down the screen flickered and it all went dead.
Fine, so after a week taken apart and in rice the battery is screwed, standard stuff, bought an OEM replacement battery, and then it turned on, worked as it should, except the screen was completely dead, no backlight no nothing.
Again fine, I order a non-OEM screen/digitizer/frame assembly, it arrived today and after being god damn sure everything is correctly assembled I power it on to find the screen is still completely off even though the phone is starting up and working normally (I can hear it unlocking, I can receive calls etc)
Is there another component that has to do with the signal to the screen that may have suffered from the water damage?
Bump. Can anyone shed any light on anything else to try?

I suppose it's a shame I can't know for sure cause the new one could be faulty, and the old one could be water damaged in some way.

Hang on, I just realised the digitizer works on both screens, I can unlock it and navigate what I remember from my layout just fine, it's just the display on the new one and the old one, surely that means something else is broken on the mainboard perhaps?
