Why would they disable device check now? I've been with Netflix for over a year and I was annoyed with having to wait for the Netflix app. Now it seems the wait was for nothing. Unless I'm missing something they seem to have abandoned securring the app alltogether. Is this the case or did they find a better way while making the apparently available to all who could use it?
Also when i try to download the update i get an error that says Package file not signed correctly. All I did to get Netflix working before was to modify the build prop. Do I need to change back the build prop and maybe delete the old Netflix app first?
Uninstall it, and reinstall it from the market. Put your build.prop back the way it belongs.
Actually, you still need the modded prop to avoid squirrel voices...
Mine sounds more like whales sounding.
Except when it's turned off. Then it's messages from my neighbors labrador
I already went ahead and deleted and reinstalled the update but thanks for reminding me to revert back to my original build prop.
I'm still curious as to why Netflix had the change of heart. Or am I missing something. I was under the impression they couldn't release an app for all Android devices because Android didn't provide the security Netflix wanted. Certain new Android devices possessed a hardware solution and for those devices Netflix released an app. Then it begins showing up for most devices but wouldn't stream to the non supported ones. A solution is found somewhere in the development community. So Netflix releases this latest update which allows streaming on pretty much everything. Lol Why and why now? What changed? Anyone else curious?
Edit: this happened soon after I posted this. Now that Netfilx has forced the older version out of service, I just use the market version with no issues on CM 7.0.3 with ext4 OC @1200MHz. No chipmunk sound and no build.prop edits are required.
---
I use the device check disabled apk and I don't hear chipmunks or whales on CM 7.0.3 stable with ext4 OC @1200MHz. No need to edit the build.prop for me. Now if would only work on my Iconia...

Is there a way to get missing apps to show up in the Android Market? I just did a search for Tumblr/Flickr/Gameloft and their main apps don't show up in the market. Any ways around it or possibly tricking the market into thinking I have a valid device to use these apps?
there are so many threads about this - i can't count them
basically the kf is for the android marked an unsupported device
therefor some apps are missing - you have to sideload them or google for a site where the apk is available
wouldn't editing the build.prop file to include a different device fingerprint from say, a similar high end tablet work?
I did something similar a while back with my droid 1 - spoofed a high phone's build.prop fingerprint, got on the market and got the app I wanted, then changed the fingerprint back.
it should be noted that I did this twice, and on one occasion when I changed the fingerprint back the second app refused to load because it checked device compatibility at startup... but if your app doesnt do that, then you should be home free.
(I'm new to the KF and still getting caught up on the forums, so apologies if this has already been debunked as unfeasible on the KF)
some guys have tried that (i also) - you get troubles with all the amazon apps, because it's no longer a kindle fire - in this case you can go to cm7 also - there it's the same
Sorry for the re-posting the question I guess I didn't see it, but I was thinking about changing the Build.Prop just wasn't sure if any one else had tried it yet. So even with CM7, we will still have a problem?
you don't have a problem - but you don't have a kindle - with cm7 it's like any other android tablet
Curious about this too... Sideloading is a pita.
I remember back in the old samsung moment days we had the same problem but it went away with the first of the custom roms. I already tried to modify the build.prop file with samsung galaxy device info and it didn't work. Hopefully someone will find the magic piece of code...
If you've noticed, the unlisted apps just so happen to be the ones that aren't compatible with your device. Use the browser based store and you'll see.

If you've noticed, almost every app people sideload works on the kindle. The only thing I've tried to install that didn't was launcher pro and I knew that wouldn't work before I tried it. I was just hoping...
I'd like to be the one that decides what works and what doesn't...
as i said - the kf is a unsupported device for the android market
it is great that it is now displayed as kindle fire - that was not in the beginning
google is shurely not interested to support the amazon device in any way because amazon built its own market
so every app that checks the device is not available, regardless if the app would be working or not
there are some apps on the market where the free version is not shown up but the paid version is

It's not as simple as that. For example Skype is available on the Market place, but without a camera or mic it's about as much use as errr a helicopter ejector seat.
However none of the Google suite are available, or even twitter! These are core apps and work just fine on the Kindle!
On the other hand, I've had to download Google Maps, Twitter etc. which all work fine on the KF, but are not in the market.
I don't mind doing that, but it seems that since they don't show up in your market application list, they won't get updated or show needing update. Frankly I'm not sure how I would update to the newer version without seeing the update on my Samsung Galaxy S2, and then searching for and installing the apk file manually.
Ive had issues with unlisted apps mainly, I do get the odd one that.works, but I prefer ones that work for certain flawlessly.

are you guys running CM7 or the KF firmware? some of the apps you guys are talking about(twitter) show up just fine in CM7, but coincidentally, some apps still don't show up or are listed as incompatible(NBA Gametime 2011-2012 for example), which work fine if you're able to get an apk and sideload them
I am on CM7 and there are quite a few games, primarily Gameloft games, that will not play once sideloaded even though they played fine on the stock ROM. Gameloft Customer Support has said this was an issue that was being addressed in future updates, so we will see.
To clarify: Some of the apks are games I had loaded on the original Amazon ROM and saved to a backup. Some are specific to kindle (ie title includes Kindle Fire version) and fail to even so much as start without FCing. Others state that the device is not compatible.
do this, and all of your wishes will come true:

I've been struggling with this issue today, and just found the "solution" so I wanted to post it here in case anyone else has this problem.
Cause:
No Apps in the Market were updating, including stock Google Apps (including Google Maps!)
Every App - Including Ones that were installed on my phone would get a "your device is not compatible" error message.
Solution:
Change the Density size back to stock 240. Clear the data of the Android Market, and then everything should be running again.
Final Comments:
This was driving me nuts because I've had my density size at 260 since day one with my Atrix, and now this has become an issue "when it was never an issue before". Anywhoo... I updated all my apps, and then changed my Density back to 260 because I hate small icons/fonts.
Like I said this is a new issue that's never happened to me before, and possibly other Atrix owners may have the same issue, so hopefully this writeup may help somebody else out...
I think I remember encountering this issue before and got frustrated and just started everything over. Ill keep this in mind for future reference though, thanks!

NP... Believe me I've tried EVERY solution that I could think of over the past 2 weeks on and off. When I finally figured it out and got things working, I dropped everything that I had going on and wrote that up.
Knowing that it helped at least one person made it all worth while...

A similar issue happened to me. A month ago i bought SimCity Deluxe, then i change my Rom and the Android Market said to me that this game was not compatible with my phone. The problem is that now it is not compatible with every Rom I flash, stock also.
density should be @240 not 260

having this issue with Block Breaker 3. just wondering if anyone knows how to alter build.prop for Atrix 4G to work around this annoying issue.
EDIT: solved.
edit build.prop (I used Rom Toolbox Pro), change the following (and ONLY the following):
ro.product.model=Nexus S
ro.product.brand=Samsung
however. once I got my game(s) working, I realized WHY my device isn't compatible: the display size (resolution) is too big. d'oh!

While 240 is a standard density, the Atrix screen is actually 275ppi. The moar you know.
thank you for the solution, i run into this exact issue time to time when i switch to a different ROM. I had this recently on the new Neutrino ROM with Instagram, but if i logged into google play through the web on pc, i could install Instagram with no issues. Only on the phone in the google play store it would tell me my device isn't compatible but it would still install if i did it through the google play website.
This is actually an issue that HP Touchpad users have been trying to figure out. Basically, the Android Market only likes specific DPIs to make things easier on app developers. So if its not 120, 160, 240 or 320 things break. IMO its stupid since good coding practices should allow an app to cleanly scale, but Google apparently feels otherwise.
It is possible to patch the market to work on other densities, but I've had no luck finding a patched version of the most current market.
I had hoped this was my problem, but alas didn't work. This worked for Navigon update, but for google maps it says my device isn't compatible, which of course it is. It actually doesn't even see that I've got Maps installed anymore.

I had that issue happen to me when I updated to 3.5.15. What I ended having to do was first uninstall all market updates. Then I replace vending.apk in the system/app directory with an older version and set the permissions to rwer--r-- (normally it would be rw-r--r--, but it wouldn't work for me). After that reboot the phone. Then go back to the vending.apk you placed in the system/app directory and change the permissions back to the way they were before you changed them. Next you should be able to launch the market and it should update to the play store after a few minutes. All my google apps were recognized again.
Fix
1. Go into Settings, Apps, All
2. Find Google Play - Clear Data
3. Find Google Services Framework - Clear Data
Should be OK now
If not, Install Market Enabler, redo above - then fake USA market once and should be OK.
Using : [01/feb/2012] Rom SENSATION XL V 3.0 stock ALL IN ONE (marc v0.1.8 ker)
I installed this rom, and the market updated to google play.
Device identified as HTC X315e
However this app, can not be installed as it is incompatible. It is definetely able to play using [20.Feb.2012] NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.3-CM9 V1.4 and also able to download the app. However it is not with sense.
Really want to install this game, any way to solve this problem? I have tried editing build.prop with no luck...
By the way, the android market is now changed to google play.
you should change your dpi to 240 or 160! there are apps on the market, thats the easiest way (dpi changer?) or just change it in your build.prop
----
Sorry didn't see that you alread tried this. That is the only thing that worked for me. there is a hacked market somewhere around XDA but for me it doesn't work anymore since google play immediatly updates it.
good luck though
Try to clear Market cache and redownload.
Or in terminal use marketclean.sh (i don't know if it does more than regular cache clear by app manager).
Are you sure that device you changed ID to is compatible?
Have you checked the app on https://play.google.com/store ; as you device is incompatible at the moment and would be greyed out but hovering over it may give more detail i.e. Not available in device's country. Which may be remedied by market enabler.
And FYI, the country/region may be static and built into the rom not based on actual location. which would explain why it works on some roms and not others

I dont think it is due to the country, it says that the device is not compatible.
The build.prop file shows as wwe_htc.

This is a HUGE news in my opinion. Official support for Google Play/Google Apps coming to Nook HD and HD+ soon
Barnes & Noble's press release
http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20130502006907/en/Barnes-Noble-Announces-Google-Play™-NOOK®-HD
Engadget's Hands On video of the new support.
http://www.engadget.com/2013/05/03/...nd-nobles-nook-hd-and-hd-we-go-han/#continued
They say it will be rolling out Over-The-Air and provide access to other Google Apps such as GMail, Maps and Chrome (which is now apparently the new default browser)
I personally can't be more excited for this even though I've been running rooted OS and CM10 SD side by side ever since they became available.
Being able to access Google Play and having official support for many more apps will make HD/HD+ just that much more accessible and usable imo.
Now if only we could the the stock multitasking interface too....
UPDATE: New version number is Version 2.1.0, and you can manually download the update file from Barnes & Noble's website
Just select the Software Update link for the corresponding device and follow the instructions. (You just have to put the update file on the root of your Nook's directory)
I have no idea if it closes any of the rooting exploits, but my impression has been that since we got CWM working, we don't really have to worry about not being able to root now. Still please be cautious if you don't want to risk possibly losing the ability to root/downgrade/run custom ROMs. Just wait it out until the wise wizards of the forum figures out exactly what's going on.
That is fantastic news!! Will go and spread it now! Wow!! :good:
can't install downloaded apk apps...fail once again by B&N
I can confirm that keyboard and launchers downloaded from Play Store works as well as they did with previous "manual" installations.
There are still quite some apps that are just listed as "incompatible" from the Play Store, but having Maps and Chrome running without a fuss is great.
The paper-textured dock has been also been changed in favour of sleeker dark one, (with white icons in place of black ones now) and it seems like "white-on-white" problem is resolved too. (Might have to try out more apps though.)
I can confirm that Universal Root zip still works. Took me a while to straighten out the Play Store though. But it works too, even if you had flashed my gapps zip. May take me a while to test everything to be sure the zips still work.

Just for kicks I unrooted, erased and deregistered before updating to be sure to have absolutley stock setup. And it's working beautifully!
I have installed all my favourite apps with no problem at all.
I seems to me like the general UI is running a bit smoother than before.
And there is widget support in the stock launcher! (Maybe that was tehre before, but I ran ADW Ex right from the start, so I ddn't explore stock that much before.)
Edit: Making one nice discovery after another! Voice search works! And Zinio works as well. I thought maybe they would have found a way to block their competition in the magazine market, but no!

Do you think we will be able to sideload apps and install them through file explorer apps?
Ironically, I bit the bullet and installed the CM 10 Hybrid SD Rom less than 12 hours ago (after using stock root for some time).
Part of me is hoping this configuration has some advantages over the new BN stock but I'd love to hear from people about the advantages/disadvantages of using CM10 vs. the new BN stock so I can make a firm decision about which ROM I'll use daily.
Thanks in advance.

Not right away "out of the box" as it looks. I suspect rooting will be needed to "enable unknown sources", but I'd love to be wrong. Can't test right now though.

okay so I guess this is a pointless update for me then
This is definitely an improvement: I ditched my other launcher now that I can put non-BN apps and widgets on the homescreen. But I still can't install some of my favorite apps, like Yelp. These and others are listed as incompatible.
What version of Android is the latest stock Nook HD+ running? Is it still on ICS?
That is very cool. I'm not near my Nook now but I hope with this new version it will now show apps loaded from play store in the app drawer as well as in the recent apps?

It may be due to missing hardware features. They have added network location provider to this new release so many apps that need location are now compatible but other missing hardware like GPS or camera may still rule out many apps. GPS location can be added via patch, many apps claim to need it.
Yeah, I noticed the new location features in the update and was hoping that it would make apps like Yelp compatible. You mentioned a patch for GPS?

Yes, it is included in leapinlar's location services rev 1 patch http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2062613 it adds android.hardware.location.gps.xml to device hardware features (and with bluetooth gps and Bluetooth GPS app it even works inside apps).
Not sure if Yelp specifically needs GPS though.

I haven't tried new stock yet, but the things that kept me going back to CM10 even after I had stock rooted and Play installed were the ICS/Jellybean recent apps display and the incompatibility of some apps. If they let launchers override the native notification bar, on-screen buttons and recent apps, I'd probably run straight stock.
